How does everyone feel about the descriptive combat? I'm not really great with generating battlemaps but I can give it a shot if everyone needs one.
Let me know.

Graynore (Male Human Ravenloft-hybrid infected werewolf Ftr 9/Ranger 1)

Gradzaal

I agree with Anasth and Jaxon. Just be the brooding swordsman that doesn't like to talk about his past. We'll worry about developing that later.

Graynore (Male Human Ravenloft-hybrid infected werewolf Ftr 9/Ranger 1)

Gradzaal

Monkey god hasn't posted in a while. I'll give him til monday then i'll open up recruitment again. What do you all think?

Graynore (Male Human Ravenloft-hybrid infected werewolf Ftr 9/Ranger 1)

Gradzaal

Ariael? Ariael?

Graynore (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path, Campaign Setting Subscriber)

Gradzaal

I'm interested. Have never run an 18th level character in this system before. Need to think on what kind of character. When were you planning on starting?

Graynore (Male Human Ravenloft-hybrid infected werewolf Ftr 9/Ranger 1)

Gradzaal

Jaxon:

Spoiler:
You're the human with the gnomes. I was planning on introducing them later since they are headed to a gnome community near the Anauroch desert; however, lets just make you a part of the caravan. I plan on having the caravan join up with the soldiers. This will give you a supplier for the smokepowder too. What do you think?

Graynore (Male Human Ravenloft-hybrid infected werewolf Ftr 9/Ranger 1)

Gradzaal

Sure Jaxon. I'll introduce you with a Lantan caravan.

Graynore (Male Human Ravenloft-hybrid infected werewolf Ftr 9/Ranger 1)

Gradzaal

fyi. I keep a list of marching order, weapons ready and watches.
How does everyone feel about me rolling perception checks and other checks to help speed up play?

Graynore (Male Human Ravenloft-hybrid infected werewolf Ftr 9/Ranger 1)

Gradzaal

Marching order is a cross pattern with Anasth on the right, Alder in the rear, and the front and left are unassigned.

I was waiting on Jaxal as well but I haven't heard a peep from him in a while.

Graynore (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path, Campaign Setting Subscriber)

Gradzaal

Jaxon? You still in?

Graynore (Male Human Ravenloft-hybrid infected werewolf Ftr 9/Ranger 1)

Gradzaal

Ariael:
you have one too many feats. everything else looks good. finalize the equipment and the background.

Graynore (Male Human Ravenloft-hybrid infected werewolf Ftr 9/Ranger 1)

Gradzaal

Ariael:
I checked over your character sheet and had a couple observations:
(1) The bonus background feat should be selected from the region feats. The Silverymoon region has the following benefits:
automatic languages: common, elven, Illuskan
bonus languages: chondathan, dwarven, giant, orc, sylvan
regoinal feats: Education(knowledge is always class skill and gain +2 bonus with two knowledge skills), Mind over Body(use Int or Chr to determine hp at 1st level, gain +1 hp for each metamagic feat known, and gain +1 insight bonus to AC if cast arcane spells), Strong Soul (+1 to Fort and Will saves and against death effects, energy drain, and ability drain the bonus increases to +3).
bonus equipment (pick one): (1) mwk longsword, (2) mwk rapier, or (3) breastplate armor and 20 mwk arrows.

(2) base armor class with no armor would be 13 not 14.
(3) fortitude save should be +3
(4) hp should be 24 (9 grace and 15 health)

Graynore (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path, Campaign Setting Subscriber)

Gradzaal

Sounds good Jaxon.

PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT ALL SUBMISSIONS MUST BE MADE BY JANUARY 1. Thank you and happy gaming!

Graynore (Male Human Ravenloft-hybrid infected werewolf Ftr 9/Ranger 1)

Gradzaal

Alright. No posts till monday. enjoy the holliday!

Graynore (Male Human Ravenloft-hybrid infected werewolf Ftr 9/Ranger 1)

Gradzaal

that's a good point anasth. what does everybody think about holding off until next week?

Graynore (Male Human Ravenloft-hybrid infected werewolf Ftr 9/Ranger 1)

Gradzaal

I've been waiting on posting due to the holidays. I'll start moving it along tomorrow if no one posts.

Graynore (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path, Campaign Setting Subscriber)

Gradzaal

Experimental Might is being used. Eldritch Might is only for the bard class.

Graynore (Male Human Ravenloft-hybrid infected werewolf Ftr 9/Ranger 1)

Gradzaal

Skill lists remain the same. If a class had spot, listen or search, then it has perception. If a class had either hide or move silently, then it has stealth.

Graynore (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path, Campaign Setting Subscriber)

Gradzaal

Rogue starting gold is 125gp.

Graynore (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path, Campaign Setting Subscriber)

Gradzaal

Jaxon:
you should have 5 grace points and 14 health points (total of 19 hp, grace and health points heal at different rates).
you should have an additional regional bonus feat (arcane schooling, education, or mercantile background).
studded leather provides a -1 armor check penalty.
craft(gunsmithing) is an independent skill if you wish to take it. Guns are almost unheard of in the Silver Marches so don't expect to be able to find smokepowder or bullets easily.
I assume that you took the option A bonus equipment (pistol, powderhorn & 10 mwk bullets).
Languages: automatic (common & Lantanese); bonus list (Alzhedo, Chondathan, Dwarven, Gnome, Ignan, Illuskan, Shaaran)
Skill points are 8 plus 2(int bonus) plus 1 (human bonus) [I assume that the additional one is your favored class bonus]
What is alchemist's kindness? I don't remember that one.

Once you get the corrections done, head over to the discussion thread and then I'll bring you into the game thread.

Graynore (Male Human Ravenloft-hybrid infected werewolf Ftr 9/Ranger 1)

Gradzaal

Do what you gotta do Monkeygod. We'll be here for a while. May have to bring you in as someone other than a legionare if it takes too long.

Graynore (Male Human Ravenloft-hybrid infected werewolf Ftr 9/Ranger 1)

Gradzaal

Alright, let's start and we'll bring everyone in as they are ready.

Graynore (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path, Campaign Setting Subscriber)

Gradzaal

Doomed Hero: there is still room. Role one up and post it over in the discussion page.

Stardust: looks good. add the stats for your wolf and the background to the page and head over to the discussion page.

Graynore (Male Human Ravenloft-hybrid infected werewolf Ftr 9/Ranger 1)

Gradzaal

Well, with the high powered stats as a baseline and the ability to be a moon elf (+2 dex, -2 con) or a sun elf (+2 int, -2 con) I think it works out.

I look forward to seeing your character.

Graynore (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path, Campaign Setting Subscriber)

Gradzaal

I'd like to get started so we can begin with you two. If some more applicants come along, then we can add them in as we go.

Graynore (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path, Campaign Setting Subscriber)

Gradzaal

Discussion thread is up. http://paizo.com/campaigns/TheKnightsOfLuruar/discussion#1

Monkeygod: when do you think you'll have a character ready? I think that we'll get started. I may add a couple npcs to help out.

Graynore (Male Human Ravenloft-hybrid infected werewolf Ftr 9/Ranger 1)

Gradzaal

This is the discussion thread for the Knights of Luruar pbp campaign. Welcome all and let's make this fun. Also, if there are questions or dicussion on how certain rules work, let's keep them in this thread.

Graynore (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path, Campaign Setting Subscriber)

Gradzaal

Monkeygod:
(1) pretty set on 3.5 for the most part. i'm not sure how the rules will interact. as far as the races and favored class bonus, i would say that the favored class bonus will be brought in (choose class at first level and get either +1hp or skill point). i'm leary of pathfinder races due to how some racial bonuses affect other systems (such as combat manuevers), was there something specific you were looking at?
(2) as far as traits and regional feats go, i would say that you gain a regional feat as a bonus beat at 1st level. under 3.5, it wasn't a bonus feat. traits are basically half-feats to tie into the background of the character. so Alder, sorry, add the feat back
(3) this is pre-4e. year is 1372DR.
(4) backstory is as complete as you want. so long as the backstory covers your skills and motivations. as far as specific npcs, whom were you thinking of?

Alder:
(1) see item 3 above.
(2) don't worry about changes to the realms, i'm not following all of the progression.

Graynore (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path, Campaign Setting Subscriber)

Gradzaal

Alder:
Looks good. A couple things: (1) yes you will gain a feat at each level; (2) yes you gain bonus hp equal to your con score at 1st level; (3) you have one to many feats; (4) bard average gold is 100 gp.

I like the concept and look forward to seeing you run it.

Monkeygod:
I'm going to keep the tumble skill seperate for now. I might fold it in later. Sounds good on the character concept. Draft it up.

Graynore (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path, Campaign Setting Subscriber)

Gradzaal

Burrahobbit: sounds great!

seekerofshadowlight: default rules are 3.5 modified by MC collected book of experimental might. I'm house ruling in how skill ranks are done to pathfinder (i.e. no x4 ranks at first level, +3 bonus to class skills that have ranks in them, and no x2 cost for cross class skills). I'm willing to review rules as the game goes along.

Graynore (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path, Campaign Setting Subscriber)

Gradzaal

Books: PHB3.5, Forgotten Realms's Campaign Setting (for varients of base races minus underdark versions), Player's Guide to Faerun (for regions), & Monte Cook's The Collected Book of Experimental Might.

Stats are before racial bonuses.

Graynore (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path, Campaign Setting Subscriber)

Gradzaal

Since this is my first run with the MCEM rules set, let's start at first level.

Campaign will start in Silverymoon. All characters are potential Ardent Legion recruits. Plan for a mix of city, wilderness and dungeon delving.

For stats, everyone starts with 17, 15, 14, 13, 12, 10. Assign as you like. Max hp at 1st level.

Monkeygod, default will be 3.5 rules; however, I'm going to change how skills ranks are done to pathfinder. hide and move silently are now stealth. spot, listen, and search are now perception. concentration and tumbling checks are as described in MCEM.

average gold for class.

use regions from Players Guide to Faerun to set starting languages and bonus equipment. if you don't have that book, let me know which background sounds good and I will post the information.
most common:

Spoiler:

Human: Silverymoon, The North, The Sword Coast or Uthgardt Tribesfolk
Dwarf: The Spine of the World or the Sword Coast.
Elf: Evereska, The High Forest, or Silverymoon.
Gnome: The Western Heartlands
Half-Elf: as elf or human or Silverymoon(half-elf version).
Halfling: Western Heartlands.
Half-orc: as human or The North(orc version).

Graynore (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path, Campaign Setting Subscriber)

Gradzaal

Would anyone be interested in a pbp set in the Silver Marches using Monte Cook's complete book of experimental might? This book has been sitting on my shelf for too long and would like to give it a try.

classes: barbarian, bard (complete book of eldritch might variant), cleric, druid, fighter, monk, ranger, rogue, & wizard.

races: stand PHB plus varients from Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting (no underdark races).

Graynore (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path, Campaign Setting Subscriber)

Gradzaal

My preference is a maulgrym (spelling?) from Monsters of Fearun. They are a race of powerful shapeshifters from the plane of shadow. they are a base cr5 but most have levels in rogue, sorcerer, wizard, or cleric. they are suppose to be masters of shapeshifting. in 3.0 thier shapechange abilities were equivilant to the shapechange spell. If you want some thematic inspiration on them, see the novel "Cloak of Shadows" by Ed Greenwood.

Graynore (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path, Campaign Setting Subscriber)

Gradzaal

Are you referring to the Rhul-thaun? The Rhul-thaun are the decendents of the Rhulisti. Rhulisti being the original Blue Age race. Depending upon the source, halfings are the closest relation to the Rhul-thaun and their racial superiority (i.e. it's okay to eat anyone but a halfing) is a product of this. The Rhul-thaun still reside on the Jagged Cliffs.

Sources: Windridders of the Jagged Cliffs by TSR and Life-Shaping Handbook by athas.org.

None that I am aware of.

Graynore (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path, Campaign Setting Subscriber)

I have thought about it and I have an alternate character concept to propose, the degenrate shade. This was based upon the 3.0 shade template in the forgotten realms campaign setting. It is a 30 point build that doesn't quite capture all the abilities but does get some of them.

Spoiler:
This is a 30 point "advanced race" designed from the ARG playtest.

Degenerate Shade

Point Expenditures for Degenerate Shade
Outsider(native): 2rp
Medium size: 0rp
normal base speed: 0rp
Flexible modifiers(con&chr): 2rp
Standard Language Array (start: common, Netherese; bonus: Infernal, Abyssal, Undercommon, Draconic, Elven, Loross, Thorass): 1rp
Greater Defensive Training: 3rp
Fortunate: 4rp
Shadow Blending: 1rp
Shadow Resistance: 2rp
Greater Spell Resistance: 3rp
Spell-like Ability x2(mirror images and cure moderate wounds): 4rp
Fast x2: 2rp
Skill Bonus (+1 Percep & Stealth): 2rp
Stalker: 1rp
See in Darkness: 4rp
Light Sensitivity: -1rp

My character concept is a degenerate shade wizard. Once an archmage, he sufferred some set back (whether divine or arcane) and was drastically reduced in power. His memory of his life before he awoke in this little harbor only comes in bits and pieces. As he gains levels, he doesn't advance so much as remember. He is but a shadow of his former self.

Spoiler:
4d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 5, 6) = 19

4d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 5, 2) = 15

4d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 6, 5) = 18

4d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 4, 3) = 10

4d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 3, 6) = 14

4d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 2, 5) = 13

final scores: 16, 13, 17, 9, 13, 11
hum, i guess i'll amend my character concept to be a tieflng wizard 1/rogue 2 going for the arcane trickster class.

Graynore (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path, Campaign Setting Subscriber)

Gradzaal

I'm interested. It's been an age since I was in a planescapeish campaign. I've got to look over the playtest rules.
Concept would be sorcerer-fighter tiefling, maybe magus.

Graynore (Male Human Ravenloft-hybrid infected werewolf Ftr 9/Ranger 1)

I won't be able to get my character up till sunday. I've been at a conference all week and won't be around by books till then. I hope this doesn't mess up anything.

Spoiler:
I can wait on the sith. I was planning on going for the dark side adept or taking a level of soldier to get with the soldier idea and go dark side marauder.
As to your last comment, does that mean that I should drop the joined the imperial army or I should be ready to act like i'm in the imperial army?

In my RL Star Wars game we have a Miraluka Jedi, they are awesome and very interesting.

I see Karval as being quite Romanic, in nature and style. This certainly seems really interesting.

What are the REAL rules for Miraluka? I have a idea from what I know of the species, but I haven't seen any written rules for them. That's why I wrote my own.

Official rules

Spoiler:
Bonus feats: force sensative, Sense.
Species Traits: -2 dex, +2 Int; +2 species bonus on initiative checks; force sight.
Force Sight: force sight allows them to use the sense surrondings technique of the Sense feat as a free action (rather than a move action) and without paying the vitality point cost. they use this ability to compensate for their natural blindess. this ability is effective out to a range of 1 kilometer.
automatic languages: basic, miralukese.

Sense Surrondings techniqure: any character with the Sense feat can extend his/her senses through the force to gain an awareness of his surroundings. such awareness allows the character to fight and make skill checks (including listen and spot checks) without taking any penalties for darkness or lack of line of sight. this ability does not duplicate the enhance senes skill but rather allows a character to perceive normally through the force instead of through a normal sense, thus compensating for blindness or deafness.
Activiating this awareness requires a movement action. Using it costs 2 vitality points, and the ability compensates for only one sense at a time. if a force user wishes to use this ability to overcome both blindness and deafness in the same round, for example, he would need to spend 4 vitality and one movement action to do so.

Gradzaal

I submitted one for the rebels, but I'll put one in here too.

Name, Age, and Race: Talon Marsk, 23, male Human
Homeworld: Zonama Sekot
The Reason for your class: (class: Force Adept) Talon was raised by a mad wizard in a small, isolated village on Zonama Sekot. Talon never knew his parents. His mentor, Kask Mandol, had learned the secrets of the universe from a group of force users known as the Order of the Universals. The Order is stationed somewhere in the galaxy. The secret home of the order was one of many that Master Mandol took to his grave. A group of thieves murdered his master in the night. Talon found the weakened group as he returned home and, in his rage, used his magic to electrify them to death. Fearing retribution, Talon went to the local space port, a place that his master and him avoided, and enlisted in the empirial army.
Physical Description: A tall man with long jet black hair. Talon walks in the simple robes of his forgotten order of the universal. Carrying a simple pack, one does not expect that Talon could be capable of any damage.
Skill Explanation: Talon learned the secrets of magic from his master, Kask Mandol. Kask Mandol told Talon that he had learned the secrets from his Order of the Universals, a group that believes that one can reduce all physical things to mental thoughts and thereby control everything else. With the primary force training being Alter, Talon has a strong knowledge of force lightning and move object. He believes that this is based on an understanding of the positions of the stars. As an outcast, hermit, Talon learned many wilderness survival skills.
Motivations: Talon is searching for traces of his order. Having known no family except his master, Talon has decided to look for the rest of his order. In joining the Empire, Talon hopes to see the galaxy and find his order. Morality is not something that typically factors into Talon's equations of the stars. Having travelled the stars for a little while, Talon is beginning to think that he may be wrong about a great number of things.
And finally why you are joining this faction. I'm wanting to run a sith character. I see Talon as being a person that is a force user that eventually finds out that his order is a sham and seeks other knowledge. As a potential sith, I see the empire as the faction to be with.

Name, Age, and Race: Me'eona Lakur, male young adult, Miraluka
Homeworld: Nar Shaddaa
The Reason for your class: Me'eona is a scoundrel. Growing up on the Hutt world of Nar Shaddaa as a street urchin, he learned a great deal about taking what you need and worrying about the consequences later. After stealing from a minor crime lord, Me'eona knew it was time to leave. Stealing a small ship and heading out into space, Me'eona almost crashed and died landing on the first planet out of Hutt Space. Meeting a Rebel recruiter was a chance encounter but it was as good as anywhere else he could have found himself. Acting as a hijacker, as worked well since he joined the rebellion. He doesn't feel as strong about the cause as his friends but he is loyal to the closest thing that he has to a family.
Physical Description: Me'eona appears to be a typical human pilot. He wears dark goggles to hide his eyeless features and carries a small blaster on his hip.
Skill Explanation – Me'eona learned his skills growing up in the slums of Nar Shaddaa. His pilot skills came from wagers made on racing; few people believed a blind kid could fly as well as others. His force skills are only natural abilities that he learned like another would learn to balance as he walks.
Motivations Me'eona has found companionship with his rebel friends. he enjoys the thrill of the steal and the race to escape. Me'eona feels like his companions are his family and is loyal to them as such.
And finally why you are joining this faction. Well, if you meant why I personally want to be on this thread, then it is because I like the underdog idea. If you ment why the character wants to join the faction, it is merely because a recruiter helped him out and he had no better place to be. Since joining, he has come to think as the rebellion as his family. He may not believe in the cause, but he fights for the family.

First: Are you interested in playing in a Star Wars Campaign.
I am interested.

Second: Do you have the rulebook mentioned above. If not, what rulebook do you have or know of.
I do own that rule book along with several of the supplements.

Third: Any insight as to the campaign story. Do you like or dislike anything about it?
I like the idea about going a different direction from the expanded universe.

Fourth What do is your opinion of how I plan to run this thing. What do you like and what do you dislike.
I like the idea about having your own ideas about the rules. The only thing that I would suggest is that you provide those rules ahead of time. For instance, if you are using different rules for force powers or some technology that are likely to come up, then it would be best to advise the players earlier.
As far as the jumping ahead once per week, how would that work with combat? I've been in low-level and high-level pbps on this web and find that combat can sometimes last over a week.

Fifth What thread would you join? Empire, Rebels, Zadora?
I'm kind of split as I like the sound of each of the different types. If I had to choose, then I would say Rebels.

Sixth Any Questions?
what species and/or droids would be available? Would there be any sourcebooks otherthan the one rule book that would be allowed?

Graynore (Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, Adventure Path, Campaign Setting Subscriber)

I have used it in a couple different 3.5 settings. If you have less than optimal healers, it works okay. In a system without healers, it works at low levels but not higher when you might need a heal spell during combat.
I prefer the vitality point system for games without healers.

I am interested. How frequent of posting are you looking for? Will you be using any athas.org material?

The applicants so far include:
Thri-kreen rogue (imirtl)
Mul fighter (mrdarklight)
Mul barbarian (scanford)
Elf psion (stardust)
??? psion or preserver (AlanM)

Rolls:

Spoiler:
4d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 3, 3) = 13

4d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 3, 4) = 19

4d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 4, 4) = 17

4d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 6, 6) = 18

4d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 2, 1) = 6

4d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 2, 5) = 9

4d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 4, 4) = 16

I have two concepts:
(1) dwarven monk (maybe multiclass into psychic warrior or psion). A member of the monastic order of the Exalted Path in Nebiny. One day, the young monk was found baking in the sun his memories distorted. Shortly thereafter, Kayari Drasad, assistant to Abbot Thong Nal, sent the young monk on a journey to Urik.

Spoiler:
Kayari Drasad is a member of the Order hiding out in the monastary of the Exalted Path. My character noticed how Kayari is manipulating the Abbot and his memories were erased. Assuming that I would violate one of Urik's many laws and never return, Kayari ordered me to go to Urik to talk to a member of one of the psychic houses

(2) halfling druid. One of the many halflings pledged to Urik. He is a nature priest studying the world before his calling to his protected land. The halfling is beginning to hate what he sees in Urik and plans to forget his post.
