I have some bad news. I have decided to withdraw from, or end most of my participation in PBP games. Getting into the Top 32 of RPG Superstar has shown me how much time I was dedicating to PBP that could be better used elsewhere, and how I am in too many games for me to do them all justice. As a consequence of over committing myself, PBP games often feel like a chore for me instead of fun, and I have to make difficult choices about which ones I prioritize, while other people wait on me to post. Therefore, I’m limiting myself to two games as a DM and the games as a player where I have invested the most time/posts and had the most fun.

I apologize for withdrawing from this, but it’s a hard reality I have to face. As much as I love PBP there is limited time in life, and I can’t be fully invested in so many disparate ventures. Thank you all for giving me a chance, and for the fun we have (hopefully) had together. In the future my availability may change, and I hope to see you all around the boards. Again, apologies for failing in my commitment. I wish you all the best of luck, and that all your rolls be critical hits!

Lava Lash. Right now I'm feeling this massive amount of pressure. Only 54 hours to make a map, and I was not really expecting to make it into the top 32. I may ask for some private feedback on my map before I turn it in later, but I don't want to say anything publicly and risk disqualification.

I just found out I made RPG Superstar top 32! I will not be posting in any of my PBP games until I get my entry for round two done. Thanks for being patient with me.

Grafelda moves forward and glares at one of the rats, trying out her newfound powers. She hums a lullaby hoping the creature will pass out.

"Thank you, Skrioth. That's much better," Grafelda says. Then she doubles over in pain, clutching at her eyes. She can feel the chaotic powers within her whirling, and a dreadful pain in her eyes. When she stands back upright, there are new scars on her face. A criss-crossing X pattern, like medical stitches are etched across both of her eyes, four Xs crossing each lid and socket. She feels a new power well up in her, a mysterious lulling silence. It is the essence of torpor, and she feels that she could project it out to touch someone's mind like a new limb.

Seeing everyone staring at her, she blinks a few times. "I'm okay...just...dunno what happened. I feel...different."

Sorry, been busy PBP wise. Was putting this off, and now I'm busy with RL for the next day or so. I will level up this weekend sometime.

Half plus one is average per level, I believe.

Sahdow rat and a swarm?! Whoever wrote this dungeon is mean, mean, mean. As difficult as the beginning of Age of Worms. I vote Tharok or Qyth to lead the way.

Grafelda looks troubled. She holds one hand to her wounds. "I thought I would be asset here, but my lack of skill in combat makes me a liability in this death trap. Perhaps I should just wait outside for you all to finish?"

Map still shows me in the basement, and I don't really have much to contribute to a combat as a level 1 caster :(

Assuming I can reach Skrioth's weapon.

Grafelda screams as she falls, and twists her ankle badly. She sees Skrioth holding out the weapon for her and jumps up to grab onto it.

Climb check: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16

Grafelda runs away.

Double move on green line. I assume that's the way we came in.

"How are we supposed to fight this!?" Grafelda asks. She sounds terrified. "We could burn them, does anyone have any oil?"

"'N how are you gonna do that?" Grafelda wonders.

"Looks too heavy for me," Grafelda comments. "Let's continue on?"

Scratch that: Arctorus made his initial saving throw, so he's not subject to the poison effects. Morgder's condition does not improve, I'm afraid.

Nice. Didn't even know you could actively aid someone with a Heal check. In that case, Morgder won't take any further Con Damage (just the initial 2). Grafelda nabbed a +4 to Morgder's check, which also landed him 2 consecutive saves (which cures it).

So a total of 2 con damage not drain, to one person. We're fine. It's only a -1 on fort saves and -1 max HP.

In the aftermath of the short struggle, Grafelda also tries to help Morgder with the poison.

"I see. What is a flood troll?" Grafelda asks. She takes the journal and flips it open to the last entry. "Look at this, Qyth," the witch says, showing the journal to the other woman. "Sounds like we need to go to the Plague House. The ashes of the past...was there ever a major fire in Trunau? A mass cremation? Something like that?"

*** At the Sanctuary - Grafelda and Qytheerah ***

Katrezra continues managing in a creepy manner to regard you directly without regarding you at all. After a ragged wheeze he reaches out a hand towards the light above the body, waving his fingers through it as one would a hand in a babbling brook's water. "Can one truly know another? Or themselves? Are any so fortunate?" He clenches his fist closed and withdraws his hand and wrist into the confines of his worn robe sleeve.

He turns now to face Grafelda directly now, head bowed slightly--not in a show of respect or greeting so much as what is likely his usual posture. "Frequently came Rodrik to these halls. And frequently did we talk long of a great many things. The youth always look so eagerly to the future that they neglect the present. It is no wonder he sought out old Katrezra. And less wonder that he neglected old Katrezra's advice." The old half orc gestures towards the main hall and offers a brief shake of his head. "Let us not disturb repose with the concerns of the living. We have much to discuss, I think."

"Indeed, old one. Let's go sit, and talk of what the boy told you," Grafelda says. That will get Qyth out of sight of this body too.

"Hello, Katrezra," Grafelda says. She looks at the boy's cold body laid out. "We've come about him. You wouldn't happen to have known him, would you?"

Qytheerah nods vehemently, almost militarily, at Tharok's instructions. Good. We needed someone taking charge.

"You coming, Elda?" she asks her fellow militia-woman, arms folded while standing on the threshold, a hint of a smile appearing on her face for the first time since she woke up.

"Yeah, I guess so." Grafelda replies. "Lead the way, hon."

Yeah, Grafelda wasn't built for detective work either skill wise or personality wise.

I'm quite busy IRL these days, so I understand slow posting. That being said I try keep up the maximum PBP load I reasonably can. At the moment that's running two long term games, a short term playtest type game, and playing in several more. I agree with others that when the pace slows this much I lose immersion and begin to forget what's going on.

I'll also admit to being more of a wargamer than a roleplayer. Especially in PBP. I don't mind RP, but its only fun for me if it leads to driving the plot forward and more combat. RPing to figure out what we're supposed to next? Meh.

Grafelda wakes up finding herself feeling angry. She scoops her porridge down sullenly, only grunting in response to any social activity directed her way. About halfway through her bowl she exclaims, "What the hell is wrong with these people? How can they just ignore what's going on in Trunau?" she asks, referring to the leadership of the town and the guard. None of us are trained to investigate murders, why are we the ones doing this?

Grafelda wakes to Skrioth's call. "Aye, lass? What is it?"

Grafelda ignores the petty accusations and assurances flying around the group. She turns to Tharok, making to go with him.

We should inquire about town where the cart came from, and inform the leaders of Trunau what happened. The alarm needs to be sounded, and the town searched for further dangers.

Grafelda spits wolf fur from her mouth, and licks the blood on her teeth. She is shaking like a leaf in the wind. Did that really just happen?

"What the f%@*!?" she asks. "Whose cart is this?"

Traveling internationally for the next nine days, so my posting might be spotty at times. Please bear with me.

Grafelda roars and gives into her orcish side completely. What is going on!? She dives at the wounded wolf again, trying to tear out it's throat. Unfortunately, she is no match for the wild beast. RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

Grafelda steps up to the wolf that was wounded by Tharok's arrow and Skrioth's pike. Can let her pretty face get all scarred up like mine, she thinks. Growling as if she were no different than their lupine foes, Grafelda leaps onto the wounded wolf and tries to tear its throat out with her teeth. The wild animal has reflexes beyond that of the town-softened witch, it leaps back from her tusks easily.

Can't get roll20 to work right now. My ISP has been crap lately. I'd prefer to be near the center of the group if possible.

Sounds like we should check out the temple once we're finished asking questions.

Grafelda goes to stand with Qyth, and reaches out gently to take her hand. She holds it softly in a silent sign of support. These town dwellers feel death so keenly. They remind me of Rowan. Well, at least you can be there for Qyth like you were for Rowan. You're not completely useless.

"The flophouse it is, we have no other leads," Grafelda says.

Maybe Urnsul was a secret agent for a nearby orc tribe. Then she heard what Roddie was planning and killed him just in case. Now she's gone to report that the town is vulnerable and will come back with a bunch of greenskins?

"I don't have a problem with you, you just were being so defensive. I am a suspicious person, and for that I will apologize. Your story of divine intervention bringing you to Trunau isn't that different from my own. If you had told me up front, I would have never gotten so suspicious to begin with. Anyway, I hope we can become friends. Despite being a weirdo, you're really interesting," Grafelda replies. Now she wants to talk, huh? Oh well Felda, you aren't the easiest to get along with. Just let her be her and things will probably work out.

Grafelda sulks in the rear of the group, watching as the most passionate members face off. They are just like the warriors of Bokrug's tribe...Jostling amongst themselves for position. Who will become the alpha of our little tribe? Will this investigation unite us or break us? The witch absentmindedly fingers her disgusting curse poppet as she thinks. She uses her tusks to bite her upper lip in an expression of deep inner consideration.

"Sounds like a wise plan," Grafelda says.

Grafelda jumps at the sound of the dragon man slamming into the door. She was deep in a reverie staring at Sara and trying to process the implications of her revelations. She turns her evil eye on the door, ready to fight whatever might come through.

Oooh. Look at how her arms flex while she works. Gods, Sara is sooo sexy. I wish I was like her, Grafelda thinks, blushing under her face paint yet again. Don't open your mouth Felda, you'll just embarrass yourself as usual. Let the normal people talk. The witch lurks at the back of the group, with her arms crossed over her chest. She steals glances at Sara's body whenever she thinks no one is looking, and tries to listen to whatever ends up being said.

Grafelda follows the others to the Clamor, watching the mystery unfold in front of her.

Never knew Qytheerah was such a logical thinker. She'd make a good guard captain. Grafelda keeps quiet, as is her way. She allows those who seem to know what they are doing to take the lead. "I'm with you, Qyth."

Maybe he was seeing multiple girls, and gave his knife to someone else first. Then Brinya came along, and the original girl got jealous?

Grafelda reaches up to touch the poppet around her neck, and whispers a sibilant cantrip. A moment later her eyes begin to glow with soft purple light, and she examines the room. "I'm checking to see if there are any magical auras."

Casting detect magic and looking for any lingering auras.

Skrioth thinks, "huh? I was certain Grafelda would accuse me. They keep talking about strangers and people who stayed here last night. How are they not looking at me?"

Finally she determines to tackle the shark in the room. "Look, I know at least some of you are thinking it, I'm an outsider, and I stayed at the Ramblehouse last night, but it wasn't me, I promise."

"No crap," Grafelda says. "You're too small to overpower Rodrik, and he was kind to you last night. Where's your motive to kill him? I guess you're a suspect, but I believe you."
