About Goodwin Wintrish
Background:
Tolmin's logging community was Goodwin's family for a long time. He grew up with the trees, the loggers, and the ever present threat of the goblinoids and orcs from the iron pines. His childhood was pleasant and growing up the son of a carpenter assured that they at least had food on the table every night. Goodwin's days were consumed playing outside with his friends searching for bugs and climbing trees, things any normal child would enjoy. When he was 18 he left home to travel the world and see its wonders. Goodwin was very disappointed with he state of things in the places he visited. Mugged of all of his belonging and barely avoiding a goblin encounter within the first month of his journey he could see that this world was harsh, and he would have to become harsh to live in it. Goodwin decided it was time to learn how to live in this harsh world and began to pick up the blade and shield. He spent long hours training and moved to a trading outpost providing it defense form the goblins of the forests, studying them all the while to better learn his opponents. Goodwin became cold, isolated, and for some reason his hair lost its pigment (Goodwin has a different tale as to why every time he is asked, but only he knows the real reason) earning him the nickname "Winter" from those who would frequent the trading post. Goodwin began to learn about the forests creatures and any other beasts he could, claiming to be a genius on the subject of "dangerous and wild creatures", and even when proved wrong maintained this claim. After 3 years at the trading post the goblins finally attacked, organized by a vicious orc they were out for blood and slaughter. Goodwin fought hard but ultimately he ran, watching the outpost burn and smolder as he did so. Goodwin traveled with a burning desire to protect the week from the goblins and monsters he had studied, so he found a home in the farms outside Redwall and began protecting them from the goblins and orcs nearby. However Goodwin is just one man and the little good he did felt of very little consequence. Still Goodwin tries and hopes to raise others to the cause. .
