An uber, souped up version of the Floating Disk spell (Permanencied) cast by a high level Wizard could quite conceivably be feasable.
It would create a great “Force Train” hurtling through the air feel :)
It would also make jumping from 1 section to another a good deal more intimidating! ^-^

A few more ideas;
The train does not simply “roll” along the ground like some lame, mundane peasants cart. No. This one gets from place to place by riding atop a continuous Tsunami or World Wave that crashes straight through all in it’s path.
It’s a bit slow, but a very potent symbol of significance! (And destruction...)

Multiple castings of Wooden Phalanx to create a column of wooden sentinels to carry the train upon their shoulders.

I’ll see what other spells I can think up to create interesting effects.
Any limitations? Piazo, SoP, 3pp? They can help to narrow down my scope :) (I know I could do something amazing with SoP! It would accommodate this nicely.)
I would imagine as some form of a series of floating magical platforms all linked up and gliding through the air.
You mentioned being unfamiliar with the Mythic so I figured I would share my 2 coppers for your consideration.
I would have 3 suggestions that should quite greatly help to reduce how much/easily Mythic can warp gameplay.
#1: Ban Mythic Vital Strike. If you just tacked it onto a regular ol’ Fighter it would be pretty strong. However if you design a character to utilize it effectively it gets obscene very quickly.
From the GM’s side it creates disparity between the characters that can make it difficult to design encounters around. The hp needed to not get one-shotted by that one character often means everyone else deals trivial damage. bosses are also not so fun when they get one-shotted :’(

#22: Put a limit of max 1 extra attack or spell per round from Mythic sources.
Imagine the Mythic Vital Strike from above, you use Fleet Charge and Amazing Initiative, then your regular attack to dash 30ft, and land 3 Vital Strikes on a target. In one turn :,(
Doubling your action economy is badass enough ;)

#333: Be wary of some of the raw numbers increases that some of the abilities can give you. They can be rather obscene, even at low Mythic Tiers.
An example of a not so obvious one, the set of Display Universal Path abilities. They may look boring but some clever uses of them can easily derail a game. Display of Charisma can grant you a whopping +20 to your Bluff, Diplomacy or Intimidate checks before you roll. (Say, I rolled a 43 on my Bluff check to seduce the dragon, anyone?)
Or Display of Dexterity on a Stealth roll while using the Stealth Synergy Teamwork Feat with an ability that lets you share Teamwork Feats. Basically that’s +20 to everyone’s Stealth roll... :’D
I heard of someone who had a Dwarf with the Breadth of Experience Feat and Display of Intelligence Ability. He could make any Knowledge check untrained with a +22 bonus, basically he knew everything important about anything :P

I am not suggesting you ban these, just be wary of some of the raw stat boosters in Mythic and how they can mess with some of the non-combat elements or create shenanigans. ^_^

As for me, I might add in a application to the pool. :D
I don’t have much time so I will have to see if I can get it finished reasonably quickly. The core of his mechanics would be a Dwarf with the Steel Soul Racial Feat, and he is a bit of a magic denier :D He would be very resistant to magic, but not so much to other things.
I would probably have to make him a Barbarian so that he could at least deal some damage :p
It would be fun scoffing at the obvious tricks of those foolish “Wizards” and trying to rationalize basically everything away with absurd “explanations.” XD
Hail, mighty GM Mioki :)

In the Spheres of Power system they have added some extra feats.
Idiot using Heal with improvised tools? Check. :p

By far this is not the most broken thing in SoP but it did give me a good laugh :)

Any other cringe-worthy malpractices you can think of inflicting with this lovely ability? "Curing" a ghost of their Incorporeality with a scalpel sounds like a hoot!
So I think I just found a new favorite :3
Adraniel: a midget with a punch! Well, a very strong halfling swinging around an oversized greatsword. Massive physical stats and has self-buffs. Despite that he is still a stealthy little bugger :/
Telv: ahh. An Oozemorph Shifter. I understand now :)
He is also very physically fit (if a little flabby around the waist) and relies on multiple 'homegrown' natural attacks.
Flan: A stealthing sniper with a sweet sniper pistol! Also has healing and support powers and is a Mid level caster.
Connor: The Wiz Kid and his toys. Has a ton of abilities boosting his summoned constructs or his very handy Psicrystal. Is a High caster with 4th lvl powers. And the Leadership feat :p Can't have too many minions!

So you currently have a super strong Gnome with a greatswoord, an Ooze-thing with 3 strong natural attacks, a phasing Sniper with utility and heals, and the Minion Overlord full caster with a sweet psicrystal.

As for me, I have no idea yet :p
But I figured that if I figured out what the others are doing, I might be able to figure out some ideas of my own :)
(whens the <s>GM</s> lynching, did I miss it?)

a couple of ideas that initially stick out to me;

1) Go for the more difficult route of a martial melee character. I am thinking of a rabble rouser sort of character. Possibly a monk with a skill focus in Disguise? He gets into groups of crowds and stirs them up while covered up and gets them into trouble. If trouble finds him, well it turns out he is pretty good with his hands :)
He gets his kicks from watching all the chaos and headaches he makes for Big Man Gross. Hes not the best ally for the Council but as long as he gets to be in the midst of all the commotion hes content, plus he makes for a great fall guy and distraction.
So probably a Monk with high Disguise, Bluff and Escape Artist skills, possibly some Combat Maneuvers too.

2) "The Merchant". This guy appears to be quite the reputable (and greedy) merchant on the surface but underneath the pleasant smiles and niceties lies a man who knows how money makes the world move. And knows the ins and outs of the black market and gangs. He has some beef with the current leadership and so he seceretly backs the Council. The man himself is weak and so he tries VERY hard not to be seen (after all, becoming an enemy of the Grey Gardeners is bad for business), instead he tries to set up his plots behind the scenes and greases the palms of those lesser beings to do the dirty work (and line his pockets!).
Basically, I would get to set up elaborate plans and backups utilizing NPCs and then you play them out (blundering and all...), and I get to sit back and watch like a true Mastermind.
He would be some form of Charlatan Rogue with the Rumormonger and Black Market Connections Talents, enabling him to manipulate other people well, and give him interesting ways of interacting with the world :)
He will also most likely have a bodyguard of some sort, because which rich Merchant wouldn't? XD (and hes a weak snob who would be avoiding any confrontations...)
Spill a gallon of blood from another? Sure. Spill a drop of his own? Not a chance...

3) Some sort of Illusionist or Mind Reader could also be grand :)
Now this will probably be a popular idea for others so I probably will go with something else. A Wizard or Sorcerer makes easy sense, but a Mesmerist could also work well. I think a character with a really strong Detect Thoughts or Seek Thoughts could be a fun information-gatherer type of character, and Enchantments are great in this kind of setting :)
Or a Gnome with the Effortless Trickery feat and a boatload of Illusions could do wonders for facilitating our plans, such as escape or distraction or whatnot. Plus I could see a small Gnome just getting a kick out of screwing with the local authorities XD

Anyways, those are just ideas being spitballed right now, very likely subject to change :)
I do like the Monk guy tho >_>

Question!
Will you be allowing Skill Unlocks or Combat Stamina?
The Disguise Skill Unlock (time reduction) would be very useful for my non-magical, mundane rabble-rouser :)
Looks neat, I'll add myself to the mob of onlookers :)

OK. This may be difficult for any ONE, SINGLE person to deal with, but considering most parties are between 4 to 6 people, you have significantly more options available to you, readied actions and delayed actions being an obvious example. That and you simply have 4x to 6x the amount of bodies moving so she is fighting a MASSIVE action economy disadvantage. Use it.

To start with, her first "dangerous" ability is her ranged weapon.
There are a few options to deal with this here. Deflect/Snatch Arrows are an easy example of reducing this (however, if you catch the starknife, does that prevent it from returning?). Cut From the Air can significantly reduce the number of shots against you, and its easily possible to have more Dex then she has attacks.
Some spells can also reduce or even negate ranged attacks entirely, one of them is the Winds of Vengeance spell, which simply makes all ranged attacks auto-miss for 20 minutes. Or an Empowered Spell Turning can protect you from a Dispel attempt on its own, or Spellbane keyed to Dispel Magic and Deeper Darkness would go a LOOONG way to keeping you safe. Another one, Iron Body grants DR 15, which SIGNIFICANTLY reduces her damage (Lots of medium/weak attacks).
Side note, an Invulnerable Barbarian can get between 23-29 DR, which could completely negate her damage.

Additionally, multiple characters can take appropriate actions, such as Aid Another or readied defensive spells to significantly reduce her "threat". The Bodyguard feat lets you boost an Allies AC by up to a significant amount. With things like the Helpful trait, and wearing Benevolent armor, and a Ring of Tactical Precision can grant any adjacent ally +10 AC against every attack. OR He could simply wear an Arrow Catching shield can force all the attacks to strike him, instead of those adjacent to him. This can make it very hard for her to hurt at least a few of your allies.
Pair that with a wizard wearing a pair of +5 Defending gauntlets for and additional +10 AC.

Another option is to simply target her weapon itself, using readied actions.
A readied Disintegrate that triggers when she throws the starknife (or when the starknife returns to her, if that is not allowed) can shut it down hard.
Or, have a Sunder Specialist ready an attack against the starknife if it comes within reach. A steal effect only has to succeed once to really disadvantage her (Cyclops Helm?) if ever the oppertunity presents itself.

With her ranged options weakened or eliminated, fighting her becomes easier.

If ever a Two-Weapon Fighter manages to get within melee range of her and has a full-attack action available, he could quite easily blend her in a single round.
Similarly, if a fully stacked archer ever gets the chance to unload a full attack on her, she is probably toast.

So the trick is simply creating opportunities for that to happen.
A wizard who boosts his perception high enough and also prepares a method of negating/revealing her, along with a quickened Teleport can basically win it right there.

Heres a scenario:
Ranger, Cleric, Wizard, Fighter.
Ranger is an archer, Cleric is a tank, Wizard has a scroll/wand using Familiar, Fighter is a Two-Weapon specialist.
Ranger, Cleric and Wizard stand shoulder to shoulder with the Cleric in the middle, the Cleric has the Bodyguard tricks and/or Arrow Catching armor above.

Ranger and Fighter delay until after the Wizard goes, Cleric buffs. Familiar doles out scroll/wand buffs such as Acute Senses as needed.
Wizard readies an action for the moment she 5-ft steps or teleports.

So what does she do? If she attacks someone with her starknife, the Cleric will negate or absorb most of her damage, if she attempts to teleport or use Silence Between, then the Wizard will act after she appears wherever that might be. At that point, the Wizard will attempt to make a Perception check (possibly with Cyclops Helm) loacating her, then cast a light spell at her, revealing her. Then casts a quickened teleport, placing the Fighter directly into melee range with her.
Now, both the Ranger and the Fighter act, and thats a skewered Butterfly :/

Or, she can attempt to cast a SLA like Dispel, but then she reveals herself (and does not step away), leaving herself exposed once the Rangers delay is up. Besides, the Dispel has a good chance of being absorbed by the Wizards defensive buffs (Spell Turning, Spellbane). If she does teleport after this, it reverts to that above.

Or she can simply delay, hoping to out-stall them, but that only takes a slight change on the Rangers part to make that tactic unusable.

Basically, the only option she has left is to simply teleport way outside of the range of the Wizard, she cant actually fight. She can only flee.
Now, that assumes that everyone knows exactly what the other people are planning and doing. Most likely the Butterfly does not know what they are waiting for and will then blunder into the parties trap.

All this is only a 4-man party composed of a Cleric, Wizard, Archer Ranger and 2-Weapon Fighter. They are well prepared but hardly outside the expected realm of a 20th lvl party.

So, its possible :/
Cuup wrote:OK, I challenge you to make a 20th level character with at least a +53 in Perception...
1 spell... 20 ranks and +3 FCB, add in the Acute Senses spell makes 53 on its own. And if she is spamming Dispel Magic on your 2nd level spells, you are already ahead in the game!

Made of mithril. Exactly like you are thinking.
However, like Chess is saying, the Force Tower is an exception, and a unique magic item, so it overrides the general rules.
General rules state that only a weapon/armor/item made primarily from metal are affected.
Tower shields are made of wood.
While you could build a T shield out of metal, you would have to do your own conversions and houserule your own finished product first, as there are actually not any rules on what a metal tower shield looks like, so working with GM territory there.

ryric wrote:

I always figured a tower shield was basically strapping a 6 foot square of wood to your arm and trying to fight that way. Basically a mantlet. Thus the overwhelming penalties. It would be pretty tough to fight with a door on your arm.

Game mechanics wise, having the ability to suddenly have cover whenever and wherever you like is pretty powerful if used wisely. Cover lets you avoid AoOs - and technically, hide, but I'm not sure how to conceptualize that. But, say, a cleric or inquisitor with a tower shield could nearly always prevent AoOs from spell casting. An alchemist or gunslinger who targets touch AC could have a good source of cover against counter attacks, while their -2 to hit barely matters.

Just remember to let go of your giant piece of wood if you fall in water so it doesn't drag to you down to a watery grave with that ACP. :P

Sadly, you can't :(

The Full Cover aspect only lasts until the beginning of your next turn. And takes a Standard to set up...
So you can't do just about anything if you want to hide behind your shield...
Mobile Bulwark does help massively here tho :)

And drowning yourself with a piece of wood is hilarious.

Also, you have no idea how much I wish I could shield bash/bull rush with a tower shield :( Its a door! At 15th level for some, for only costing a 1st level spell, you gain a flat +10 bonus to all Int and Wis spells? So, things like Perception, Sense Motive, Spellcraft, all Profession and all Craft and all Knowledge checks? (few others too)
At least it only lasts rounds per level, right? Nope. 10 min per level...
And its an Enhancement bonus to a Skill check, wich is kinda rare so it should stack with most things :(
So, 1 potion, right? This is personal only?
Ya... about that, this does not affect only a single potion, but rather 3.2 GALLONS OF BRAIN JUICE PER CL.. O.O

So, an Alchemist (Mindchemist) takes this, and the Acute Senses extract (+30 perception, sadly doesn't stack, but included anyways) then drinks a Grand Cognatogen.
Add in +6 Int/Wis headband and, base 16 int/Wis as an arbitrary number, so that makes 30 Int, 28 Wis.
Assuming level 16 and full ranks/Class Skills, that is something like:
Perception: 58
Sense Motive: 38
Spellcraft: 39
All/Any Professions and Crafts: 39
All/Any Knowledge checks: 49

And that is only with 2 spells :P
You could also add Eternal Potion to that as well, if desired.
Its not game breaking or anything, rather I am just suprised at the potential for exceptionally high numbers that this very-easy-to-use spell could allow you to get :P And for some rather important skills, like Perception, Sense Motive Crafting, Knowledges or Spellcraft, and all that from a 1st-2nd lvl spell for an extended duration :/
edit: heck. +10 Perception/Sense Motive for the entire party lasting 10 min/lvl for only a first level spell is a massive steal for that alone... Let the Blood of your enemies drive you forward >:D

AN UNUSUAL USE FOR THIS?

Give it to the party Fighter and have him actually be smart for a change >_>
It has some fun uses and is pure (chunky) gold, pity the duration is so short :(
1: Trap detection! Do a dance in your square to entertain your buddies as your puddle of puke runs headlong into the next room, setting off any traps along the way.
2: going through scarry doors? Cast this first, have your Leftover Lunch hide in a corner then enter the next room. Dont like it? Then \O_O/ Nope. it and swap back.
3: Passing obstacles! Need to get down a cliff? Puke over the side and see if it survives! If it does not, oh well. Just try again! If it DOES survive, then swap places!
Need to pass 3 difficult climb or swim checks or risk dying? Have Mr. Pukeface go up the cliff or across the rapids to do it for you! Need to cross the Chasm of bottomless doom? Have your barbarian friend chuck your Chunks across, and keep doing so until he succeeds.
Scouting/Diversions! Cast Vomit Twin then cast Invisibility. Send your Twin in like a maniac, a round or two later, swap (while invisible) and take a look around. Then swap back and have them chase your clone around as you infultrate.
Dance Partner... Yup :( and just about as gross as it sounds... :p

Now the real fun comes when you can get access to Eternal Potion!
Favorite one is to puke into a resettable trap so much, and with such volume that you jam it up ^_^
Or leave him back home in Tinsletown for unlimited standard action "Return Home" buttons.
You also have a permenantly available bomb buddy to use your Implant Bombs on.
Heck, keep him in your lab, infused with as many bombs as you can, then go out adventurering.
Get in a bad spot, or someone just reallly pisses you off? Swap to nuke mode and let ChunkySalsa die in nuklear fashion >:)
There might be other ways to take more direct control over making ChunkySalsa die at the specific time you want him to, like contigency or something, but I'll leave it at this for now :)

That aside, one thing I realized after I had created and played him for a while was that while he could POP! around and cast his spells, sadly he was not very good at a few crucial things while doing so :(
As is, I am working with my GM to allow me to do a bit of a rebuild on him (Flavored as a corruption as he gets transformed from a human into something unnatural >:), and I am doing so to overcome some of those crucial weaknesses.
For you, it would be good to be aware of these shortfalls as well :)

The first one was my Concentration. I had not placed any additional resources into boosting my concentration (via Trait/Feat)[. I then decided to POP! directly behind a Big Bad and cast Dimension Swap to switch places with my party Beatstick. GM calls for Concentration check, I fail. Power fizzles and I am now stuck DIRECTLY BESIDE A HUGE T-REX and out of actions... :(
Thatsfine,dontpanic... I have a defensive power that I can use to avoid damage, I will use that! T-Rex turns to attack me, I immediate-action cast Untouchable Aura, hopefully preventing the T-Rex from targeting me. Concentration check please... Failed...
Ohcrap,OKwhatotherdefencesdoIhave? SEVENTEEN AC. That's it.
T-Rex bites me in half, almooost one-shotting me...
Lesson learned ^_^

Second lesson, as demonstrated above, what other defenses do you have in play, in case things go wrong? I mean, your strategy is basically "Dive into the middle of the enemy mob and jump out before they react". What happens if, for whatever reason, you cant get out? Or they are able to react before you get out? I found out that in that circumstance, I had exactly 17 AC to defend me, and that's it...
Part of my planned rebuild is for me to get so corrupted that I change from Human to Elan, as Elans have very specific defenses that will prove very valuable to fall back on, if things go wrong while I am standing directly beside a Big Bad. Another part is to swap out a feat for Combat Manifestation, so that I can safely port next to something, cast my spell, and still have a safety net of sorts.

Third lesson, After getting half-killed by that T-Rex I at least had the grim pleasure of knowing that I was at least providing flanking for the team Beatstick on 'tha other side O'Mr. Doom'. Except not :(
Turns out you need to wield a weapon to threaten, and if you are weaponless (like a Wizard/Psion usually is) then you can't threaten. Or take AoOs. I was just standing next to the T-Rex uselessly and provided Squat. Zip. Zippo to the team.
So, If I intend on porting to a flanking position, I NEED a weapon or natural attack in my hand to be able to flank with it, even if I never use it.

Forth lesson, 14 Dex and +3 BAB is NOT enough to reliably hit someone with Ray spells or (if inclined), Melee Touch spells.
I only have a +5 to-hit modifier for my Touch attacks, and while its true that Touch AC is usually lower then regular AC, I miss 25% of my spells against someone with only 10 AC. If they have anything higher then that and I could easily miss half of my spells. That makes you feel very unuseful :(
You NEED to have a decent to-hit bonus if you want to use Touch attacks, and if you are going to go through all the risk of teleporting into the middle of an enemy mob, roll a Concentration check to cast defensively, only to just wiff the melee Attack roll, well you will feel very stupid :(

———-

So, those were my characters shortcomings, hers a few ideas for you :)

Concentration Feat/Trait. Very valuable. To pull of your main trick, you basically have do this;
1) Cast Frigid Touch. End turn. Next turn Dimensional Assault-Charge into someone and use an unarmed-Touch attack to unleash the spell. Swift-Action Shift out.
So thats 2 rounds to get a melee touch spell off, and it costs you a lvl 4 spell, a lvl 2 spell and 1 use of a 7/day ability.

One thing you CAN do, is to get a Spell Storing weapon and stick the Frigid Touch spell in there beforehand. That way you could do the trick in only 1 round, at least for the first time.
YOu can also get an AoMF with the Spell Storing Enchantment on it to combine a held charge and a stored charge together.

If you go the Arcanist route, then it looks like this;
1) Dimensional Slide into melee range, Cast Frigid Touch(or other Touch Spell), succeed Concentration check, unarmed-touch attack to unleash the spell, Swift-Action Shift out.
Which is a lot more streamlined.

As for a fun idea that can add to the Arcanist >:)
The Rogue has access to a Talent called Fast Getaway that basically lets you use the Withdraw action as a move action (instead of a full round action) after a successful sneak attack.
Combine the Rogues Getaway, the Arcanists Slide and the Wizards Shift and you Could Shift behind someone (Swift), attack them/cast touch spell (Standard), deal Sneak Attack damage and then Slide out as a Withdraw (Move), all in 1 turn, and you could repeat it every turn with no downtime (up to your Shift/Arcane Reservoir limit).
Its only reliance would be dealing Sneak Attack, so you might only be able to do it against flanked foes. Does the Arcanist get Invisibility? Checks... Apparently an 8th level Arcanist can get Greater Invisibility, so that works. Regular invisibility/Vanish can also work in a delayed pinch...
Also of note; Unchained Rogue gets Weapon Finesse for free, so thats a plus!

Now for something completely different.
Another way of going about this is to take the Horizon Walker Prestige class. Is preresiquites are very easy for anyone (ANYONE) to qualify for. And if you take 3 levels of the class, you gain a Terrain Dominance ability. The Astral Plane grants you DD as a SLA, 3+Wis mod times a day. That can be a fair few.
Side note; IF you can talk to your GM and try and convert the old 3.5 Horizon Walker, they also get DD as a SLA, however, its unlimited uses but with a 1d4 round cooldown period. Could be fun.
With this, you can basically take any class and give it DD to work with, and with the extra BAB (and possibly additional melee focus from other classes might make better use of the attack in the middle.

POP!
Well now! I just happen to be playing a character that fits this exact concept. :)
Meet Midioto ^-^ and you can read some of his hijinks here.
However, he does use 3pp, specifically Psionics :(
I realize that you are probably not interested in using Psionics and so the spoiler below will be of limited value to you, but it does do exactly what you are looking and hoping for, so I will post it anyways.
Edit: I have one of those groups... >_>
This one is about me in a World of Darkness game.
First a bit of backstory. We were changlings, so the gist of it is that we got sucked into the Hedge, basically the Fey world, but we don't age in there. Then we get spat out together at some later time with weird Fey powers.
My character, Germanus, was a roman centurion from around 50AD. We got spat out sometime around 1990s.
So my character is around 2000 years old and has no clue about modern technology, you know, things like electricity or cell phones...
Btw, it should be noted that I have a TERRIBLE memory, and this was an IRL game, so your character only remembered what you remembered. Germanus remembered almost nothing...
He was FUN to play >:)

Anyways, at some point early in our story we have to deal with the mob, and its mob boss Fario. Problem is, none of us liked him much but we were threatened into working for him.
So, of course, the moment we were out of earshot, we said "Screw that!" turned our backs, beat the carp out of our "ally", his #1 henchman and left him half dead in a church pew then promptly forgot all about it. As was proper.

Later on in the game, we are doing a chase scene with the police on my Harley (My Roman wanted his HorsePowa!) that got botched.
Why were we being chased? Literally for no reason :/ My ancient roman had no idea what the car with the flashing blue lights meant and the resident klepto yelled "FLOOR IT!" so I had too D:
Anyways, a critical ride check failure later and my character loses his cell phone :/
We escaped but I had no phone after that >:(

Thats fine and all, and we are nearing the end of the campaign on the last day that we are meeting up when we decide we are going to do one last big mission. So of course we split up X(
I, having no phone, ask to borrow someones and then call up Will, our scout to tell him what the plan is.
GM: Alright, you pull out your phone and call.. Oh right, you lost it. Here, this NPC lets you use his.
Me: Thanks! Ok I call up Will.
GM: His number is not in that phone. Do you remember his number?
Me: Hmmm. Nope. Not at all :(
GM: Ok, you better roll for it.
Me: I roll a critical failure...
GM: Hmmm. Thats not good. I guess you call a random person...
We may, or may not have made some prank calls earlier in the campaign using a government top secret phone... THAT definitely did NOT affect this >_>
GM: thinks for a moment, then gets an evil idea...
GM: Hello? Who is this?
Me: Hey is this Will? Its me, Germanus. We figured out our plan.
GM: ... Yessss. Hello Germanus. This is Will. I am listening.
Me: Great! Heres our plan. We will be at "X" in 3 hours. We are going to negotiate with that idiot, Fario to get him off our backs. Of course we are not going to actually pay him. But he doesn't know that. Where are you, do you want us to pick you up?
GM: Suuuuuree... I am this address.
Me: Ok, great. see you soon.

Then I talk to the rest of the party,
Me: Come on guys, lets go pick up Will!

Ya... Needless to say, when we got there, there was 3 white vans with machine guns and full of goons just waiting for us. A completely unnecessary car chase ensues (Where we get rescued by GM Fiat) and later negotiations go VERY south. Can you guess who I called?

Ya, I often felt like we were playing the 3 stooges that game. It got pretty bad sometimes ^_^ Would you believe me if I said at one point we tried to take a freaking gladius and a submachine gun onto an airplane? Or, when we were arrested by the cops, we told them to mail our firearms back to our secret lair and told them the address to it? We told the cops the address to our own secret lair???
Actually I just remembered I DO have one of those stories! ^_^

Kinda. I'm in a game Here where I am playing a robot who was created by another player, therefore he calls the other player "Master" and generally takes on a servant or support role.
Now despite that, he is an eccentric and Charasmatic Oracle with delusions of grandure so he can often be more outspoken then his master simply due to the way I play him.

So, would I play a game where I was the servant to another character who was the "Main Character?" Sure.
However, only if I wanted to. Absolutely not if I got forced into it. I am just going to assume thats not the case here.

Note: due to the differences in players ability to roleplay and storytell, and the chance of dice, you may find one of the supporting characters becomes 'larger than life' and starts to eclipse the 'main character.' Its possible to have a retainer that is more famous then the main heir.
So mull over that and its possibilities.

Playing a game where 1 character is in sevitude to another can work. Playing in a game where the storyline generally follows 1 characters background, but allows some (if less) elements of the others can work. (Heck, the power gamers might not even care!) Having a game where there is differences in power levels in the group can work, as long as everyone is comfortable with it in advance, could work. However, some people just have a strong inclination to fairness and could never abide such a thing. Others (like me) just couldnt care. I mean, come on! Not everyone can be a powerhouse like the bard!!!
Just know that its viability depends entirely on your party and its people specifically. This is entirely in the area of opinion, so if you ask me or you ask Dave Justus you will get different opinions, and neither of them will match that of tge members of your group.
So your group is the ones to ask :)
And hey! It might not work anyways! Just part of the risk of playing with flesh and blood.
I'm basically doing that right now. Kinda.
Yes it makes sense, no thats not what the rules say, and for good measure.
Imagine you need a 15 to succeed at the grapple check, and you rolled a 17 (Without the -4 penalty)

First Scenario:
Standard action to maintain a grapple, and you chose to inflict damage.
Then you decide to draw a weapon to attack with next round.
So, Free action, release 1 hand, move action draw dagger.

Second Scenario:
You are a Monk with the Stunning Pin feat.
Standard action to maintain a grapple, you chose to pin the target.
Swift action use Stunning Pin on the pinned target, expending 1 use of Stunning Fist.
Move action to draw a potion, to heal yourself with next round.

If you try to retroactively apply a -4 penalty to either scenario at this point (17 becomes a 13, a fail), things get wonky. Whats worse, there is no written rules on how to "unwonk the wonk" and resolve this problem, so you have to make those up as well.

Retroactively applying a -4 penalty for not having both hands free would cause the grapple check to fail. In the first scenario, if you fail the grapple check you deal no damage, as you cannot utilize the "damage" option.
Do you revert the hitpoints?

In the second scenario, retroactively applying the penalty would undo the pin action.
Is the creature no longer pinned?
You used Stunning Pin on the target, but that required that you first succeed at a pinning the target. If that is retroactively undone, what happens to the Stunning Fist attempt? Is it removed too? Does it refund the resources spent?

In these cases, the homebrew rules based off of "real-world logic" can lead you further from RAW and deeper into homebrew, as you are required to invent more fixes for the problems that arise.
Also, as a general, don't dabble with Retroactive rules or Retcons. They tend to become very messy fixes.

While you could just let go of the target with both hands instead of just one when you go to take the move action, there might be tangible benefits to maintaining the grapple, even with only 1 hand.
Examples like preventing someone from attacking with a 2-handed weapon, the +5 bonus for maintaining the grapple next round, or allowing yourself to do something like pin the next round.

Instead, the way the rules are written, you only have to succeed at one grapple check at one point within the round. That could be the beginning of the round, somewhere in the middle or at the very end. Everything that happens after that check (except releasing the grapple entirely) does not change that result (unless it has some specific wording stating that it ends the grapple, but that would be a specific case, not these general rules.)
Anything that happens BEFORE that check could affect the check, if you were grappling someone, then removed a hand to draw a potion THEN made the check as a standard action to maintain the grapple, you would take the penalty.

Yes, this does allow it to be taken advantage of to some degree, but it does simplify a lot of very different situations that can arise, such as the Grab ability with twf full attacks, weapons with the Grapple ability, and other effects like unusual spells.
First off, requiring 2 hands free for the entire round is "applying real-world logic".
The Whitesmith gains an ability called Personal Refinement, which allows a Whitesmith to cast an Enhancement on a piece of equipment in his hands and then maintain the effect without concentration or spending a Spell point. The Whitesmith then uses this ability to animate an object for an indefinite amount of time. Finally the Whitesmith combines this with the Enchanted Animation feat, allowing him to infuse an animated object with a single-use Sphere effect that he can create by spending an additional SP.

Enchanted Animation or, I haz army of metal coins! wrote:

The Cheese: you basically spend 2 SP to grant an object a 1-shot use of one of your Sphere abilities that it can use at a later time.
The Negitives: this does have the drawback of requiring a non-trivial amount of SP expendure. First off, you must spend 1 SP to animate the object. Then you must spend 1 SP to Enchant the object. Then you will often want to Spend 1 SP to enhance or extend the Sphere Effect. Finally some Sphere abilities require you to spend additional SP, so you will have to supply those. All told, you may be spending 2, 3 or more SP per object, and that can easily limit you to one or two castings in an adventuring day. Each casting is also single use.
Lastly, the Whitesmith is a Low Caster and while you may be able to keep up to an Incanter with your Spell pool, you simply do not have many Spheres and Talents to give to your animated objects. You will be able to spam a precious few abilities but you would not have much diversity.
The Lindberg X( Do you know what one thing that Pathfinder is loathe to give? The ability to "save up" spells from one day to another. Because you ignore the normal duration on Animate Object, and instead allow it to last from day to day then this does exactly that. Spend 2 SP today and save an effect. Tomorrow your SP refreshes and you have a "free" dormant spell ready to cast! It gets worse then that...
The object you animate becomes its own creature. It has its own hps, saves and intiative. It is a creature seperate from you. This also means, among other things, that it has its own actions! Let that sink in for a moment. You alone can only cast a single spell per round. 5 people together could cast 5 spells in a single round.
If you Enhanced 10 constructs with a Destructive Blast, then all 10 constructs could cast Destructive Blast at the same time.
Ditto for massive Cure castings.
Now each casting is a one-shot-and-done but the only cost is prep time.
And for a final question; how long can a Construct concentrate for, if that was the only thing it did >:D (We gave the Whitesmith unlimited duration Enhancements, why not give it unlimited concentration for all its other sphere effects as well? #logic)
The Application: this trick would most likely be best utilized by a Whitesmith 1/Incanter X multiclass character. 1 level of Whitesmith is all you need to aquire Personal Refinement and then the Incanter would gain significantly more talents and bonus feats (and full CLs!) to give yourself a very wide selection of Spheres and Talents to abuse this trick with. Its one thing to have on-demand, free action heals and destructive blasts, its another all-together to have access to multi-target Mind Controll coupled with widespread Telekinesis and Baleful Polymorph. You can also grant your armor the ability to Enhance your natural armor/natural attacks and task it with maintaining it with concentration.
To take this a step further, I would give my Incanter the EWP: Shuriken feat. Now I have entire stacks of readily availible and light objects that I can animate. Whats more, because they are treated as ammunition they then can be drawn as a free action meaning I can "Command" the object with: "When I draw you, activate yourself against the target I point you towards!" command, giving me easy and justifiable free-action casting. Chuck the Shuriken afterwards for dramatic effect :P

That has the potental to bust any campaign >:DHeres an excerpt from the guide I am reading;

1: Nope. In the same vein that a Great Axe and a Dwarven Longaxe are not the same weapon. Sure they are both two-handed axes but Weapon Focus would only apply to one of them. Same thing for muskets/rifles (and tecnically double-barreled rifles as well), they may both be two-handed firearms but weapon focus or rapid reload would only apply to one.

That said, the GM might houserule if you are lucky :) he has been pretty leniant so far.

Metal Cartridges (MC) are: "These sturdier versions of alchemical cartridges serve as the ammunition for advanced firearms. They can hold either bullets or pellets."
I am pretty sure that the reload reduction of a metal cartridge is already factored into the base firearm (making it a move action) but I cant seem to find my basis for this. Either way, the thought process; "If an advanced fire HAS to use metal cartridges and ALL cartridges reduce the reload times, then ALL firearms have free action reloads." What is the point of Rapid Reload. This line of reasoning makes little sense :P
Its one of those jagged edges.

2b: again, Rapid Reload reduces reloading to a free action for advanced firearms, so that is not a problem. The REAL problem is that you need a hand free to reload. If your holding a gun in that hand then it is not free...

He then uses the Alteration Sphere to cast the Shape Weapon aspect of the Morphic Weapon to transform his HexTech arm into any weapon he is proficent in XD

At level 2 he will take a level in Gunslinger (and disgard his starting firearm) allowing him to transform his artifical arm into any Simple, Martial or Firearm weapon he desires XD
Level 3 onward he will continue taking levels in Armorist.

Its not all gravy though. It has some drawbacks. If we start at level 1 then I need to take the EXP feat at lvl 1 so that I can transform my arm into that specific firearm only (Edit: Unless firearms are Commonplace, then I would be proficent).
Also, if the firearm misfires while I have transformed into it, well, my arm breaks :p
Also, while I could transform into any firearm, I could only take Rapid Reload with 1 firearm, and all others will still take an extended time to reload.
Compounding this is the fact that firearms do not come loaded, so first action is to summon the gun, second action is to load it :P
Also, Action Economy is significantly working against me :3 Round 1: Transform Weapon, Load barrel. Round 2: Enhance Weapon (if desired), Load second barrel. Round 3: FIRE! (1 shot...) ect.
Also, my transformation only lasts 2 minutes per Caster Level. I have a fair few SPs but I would have to use them continuously.

End Result...
I have a young boy who grew up in Torch but tragically lost his left arm in an accident. One of the (many) blacksmiths took him in and helped forge a working prosthetic for him. The kid then spends the next few years learning to cope with his handicapped life by continiously refining his fake arm as well as learning to channel small amounts of continious magic into his arm, granting it motion of his own, and returning full functionality to himself.
Power is granted to the persistant, and the desperate. A life spent continuously exerting magic is hard and draining (even moreso when you are also a Blacksmiths assistant!) and the constant effort has lent his magical power a strong and stable aura akin to polished steel.
One trick he had picked up over the years was to alter and transform his arm into a variety of tools, and weapons. It was his crowning achievement when, after weeks of study he was able to crack the inner workings of a rifle he had seen come through the shop. He had a working Hand Cannon!

So I have a young boy with a fake arm who has no need for weapons, he is the weapon! More specifically he can transform his left arm into whatever weapon he may have need in the moment. He also has enduring, personal magic that can aid him by enhancing his equipment.
I have had an epic idea I have been trying to put together but it requires SoP and so it doesn't seem to want to get accepted anywhere. It also happens to be a gun wielder ^_^
However it REALLY takes off at level 2. I can make do at level one by taking EWP: Rifle but then that immediately becomes redundant at lvl 2 when I take a level of Gunslinger to gain ALL proficencies :(
To start the idea off, I have human who is missing an arm, so he uses the Enhancement Sphere to cast Animate Object...Gobo Horde2017-05-06T00:07:51Z
