Male Gnome Druid 1

The front door could work, as long as we have a decent perceptor and trap spotter, I suppose. I'd rather avoid diving into a murky skeleton infested pond though.

For the Balcony, if we get one successful climber who can bring a rope then the PRD defines, "a knotted rope with a wall to brace against" as DC 0. Or Vincent could carry the rope, with +7 climb, but I feel like he might struggle with tying knots.

"Bashing, eh? Well I guess there's always the sling" Girvin muttered as he began to search through his belongings for the aforementioned weapon and required munitions. "Although, I've never been particularly good with it."

Do you want us at level 2 for this combat? or should in game effects of the level up wait until the characters get a chance to rest/you get a chance to review?

Male Gnome Druid 1

"Or triggers another one, if you're right" Girvin adds as he eyes up the recently quenched Leon. They had barely breached the walls of this place when one of them nearly went up in smoke. What had he gotten himself into?

"Oh, and you guys may want to get out of the pond before those things get to you" he nonchalantly added as he pointed to several apparently encroaching creatures under the ponds surface.

Well, while we're updating... I'm starting a new job this week (Orientation today and tomorrow), so my schedule may be a bit wonky for a bit. I don't anticipate it causing any posting interruptions, but I wanted to keep y'all abreast of the situation should there be any hiccups in my regularity.

Male Gnome Druid 1

Do you know what source Drench is in? I'm curious what I'm missing, but I'm not seeing it on the prd or srd spell lists...

Male Gnome Druid 1

I'm not really sure either, but I figured it was worth a shot. Create water is a bit of an odd one because the spell description says it can be used to create a downpour of rain but the conjuration school says:

A creature or object brought into being or transported to your location by a conjuration spell cannot appear inside another creature or object, nor can it appear floating in an empty space. It must arrive in an open location on a surface capable of supporting it.

I'm not sure how you create rain without putting water in empty space, but that's where I got the quote 'I assume he's a "surface capable of supporting" water?' from. If not we can rule the turn out, or if the good DM Haldhin is feeling generous we can just assume Girvin is refilling the aforementioned water skin and dousing from that

Male Gnome Druid 1

'tis all good, I just threw the "intention" in there to give more informed players the chance to yell at me before I did anything too stupid.

Oh dear, that's definitely not normal. Girvin piped up when he noticed the smoke rising off of Leon. Stuffing the firefly from his last spell back into his pouch, Girvin begins frantically casting again in an attempt to slow the conflagration starting on their companion. With a final flick of his wrists a sheen of water appears on Leons head and floods down his body. "Keep going, I don't know if I can keep up with whatever's causing this" He adds, addressing Firavel and Sethis.

Create water (2 gallons) - targeting Leon. I assume he's a "surface capable of supporting" water?

Male Gnome Druid 1

Girvin peers as hard as he can after the Wyldling's extended digit trying to get some idea of what is going on here. Leon's outburst did nothing to calm his nerves, but for now he managed to keep it together. "Leon, what do you see?" he slightly shouted - trying to break into the startled man's mind. Girvin punctuated the sentence by splashing Leon with the contents of his water skin hoping to force some sense into him.

Looking to Leon, then the door one more time the gnome stoops and picks up a stone to alight with the intention of tossing it into the unexplored residence.

"Especially given the state of this place. The Sheriff wasn't kidding when he said it wasn't architecturally sound anymore. Stepping through the gate after Mithias, Girvin looked again to his right and left as he surveyed the ruins. "Normally I'd say we should split up to save time, but I don't think that really applies here given what we are prepared to find."

Male Gnome Druid 1

Girvin wasn't really sure whether he was awestruck or mortified by the being in front of him. Half of him was saying to shake the creatures hand and return the greeting, while the other half was telling him to kill the beast with fire. In the end, simple curiosity won out and he approached the Wyldling and began to take in it's diverse features. "Greetings, immortal"

Male Gnome Druid 1

"Sounds fair enough to me. After you, sir."

Male Gnome Druid 1

Do we have a rough time of day? I'm thinking if the day is waning then it may be better to retire to the Lorrimor residence, for an evening of identifications with Kendra before heading out bright and early to the haunted prison.

Girvin released a short, shrill whistle cueing a large snake to crawl out of a nearby bush and heel at his leg. Taking a look to all the others, the gnome took a single exaggerated step onto the descending staircase. "Well, let's do this. If, uh- someone a bit more durable wants to go in front of me I wouldn't object."

Help yourself, Leon

Male Gnome Druid 1

"Nice find on that button." Girvin cooed as he watched the elf's nearly instinctual performance. Their evidence for this particular crypt seemed a bit circumstantial, but it was certainly a better lead than they had on any other crypt checked. Stepping up to the now exposed maw, Girvin took a moment to closely inspect the area near the doorway, in the hopes of finding some recent sign of disturbance that they could connect to the Professor's earlier visit. Giving a brief nod of satisfaction to himself the gnome picks up a small pebble nearby, reaches into his pocket, and says a few muttered words to illuminate the stone. "Any objections to me tossing it in?"

Given no objections, consider the pebble thrown.

"To be blunt, we have heard Whispers that lead us to believe the good Professor's death may not have been accidental. I know personally, I'm willing to look into that possibility because I feel that outing the truth is the least I could do to honor his memory." Taking a steadying breath, Girvin did his best to assess the clergyman's mood before continuing.

"Given the history of the Harrowstone, and the Way the professor's studies branched into unusual subjects, we thought it best to prepare ourselves for anything before looking into things personally. The Professor's journal mentioned that a false crypt was historically outfitted in the Restlands as a home of defenses against the... unnatural - so it seemed like something to look into before going forward."

Male Gnome Druid 1

"Perhaps only knowing that we will be in it is enough? He should by rights know what is going on in his crypts, but being light on the details may be helpful in shining a better light on us. Maybe just that our research shows that there may be some historically useful information in that section, or that we believe The professor has left us some clues to his research there?" Girvin paused for a moment to organize his thoughts before continuing, "I don't want to be deceptive, but at the same time being barred from searching seems equally undesirable."

If nothing else, we could try a detect magic to narrow the search, I suppose. I think Sethis has it available. Otherwise, maybe I could attempt a speak with animals if we find a denizen willing to talk. There are probably better ways, but I'm drawing a blank right now

Male Gnome Druid 1

"My apologies for that misstep. Having been told to dispense with generalities, and to speak freely here, my anxiety and eagerness overcame my tact." Girvin stammered through his embarrassment, fighting the feeling of flush he felt rising to his face. "Thank you for your time, and patience, sir."

Male Gnome Druid 1

"So, the Whispering Way held more interest to the professor than a topic of research. It's good to know the caliber of people we may end up against if we pursue this to it's conclusion. It's probably nothing important, but it's crooking in my jaw: does the Warden's monument getting covered in blood last night raise any red flags for what you know about the Harrowstone and the Way?"

Arriving at the sanguine statue, Girvin allows himself a moment to take in the whole scene. He used his small frame as best as he could to get close to the front of the crowd without drawing the armored mens' ire.

"That blood is old" was all he said as he tried to wrap his head around the possible meaning or purpose of this. It could be simple vandalism, but then why blood and not paint, manure, or something less grim? Whatever was going on, someone definitely wanted to make a point with all of this mess.

question:
Is the statue out of the way of the town's regular traffic? It was said to be on the river bank just out of town, but I'm wondering if it should strike Girvin as odd that the statue's state wasn't recognized for the first third/half of the day.

Male Gnome Druid 1

"I think I've been reading to many necromancy related history books, personally." Girvin muttered as he continued his pursuit of the moving crowd. This is why he was never a fan of books - applying the knowledge was always so much more difficult than practical experience. If you've had poison ivy before and you see it again you know to stay away. If you read about poison ivy, you end up jumping at every three-leafed plant you see. Fortunately, Mithias' enthusiasm broke Girvin's short-lived sulk as the gnome cleared his mind to whatever they were about to see. 'No use jumping to conclusions before I've even seen anything.'

Male Gnome Druid 1

"...And just when I thought the library was going to be the most macabre part of my day. Girvin mumbled as he slipped in line behind Sethis and Leon to see the freshly colored monument. "I hate to bring it up, but what do we think are the chances of this being connected to those we've been reading about? It's not very subtle, in a 'whispery' way, but a it does have a bit of an evil ritual vibe."

Rolled a 4+9=13 earlier today, but got distracted and didn't get to post it.

Male Gnome Druid 1

"...And I thought the most macabre part of my visit to Ravengro would be the funeral. Shall we try to meet with Alendru then, to see if he can cast light on the professor's darkening body of work?" Girvin put on as much of a neutral tone as he could, despite his instincts telling him to run away from this mess and to not look back. Still, what was he doing in Ustalav if not seeking discovery?

Male Gnome Druid 1

Again, not particularly comfortable doing book work, Girvin satisfies himself skimming along with the others as they study and trying to pick out anything they might have missed.

I have no preference, as long as we check in with Grimburrow before heading towards the harrow stone

Male Gnome Druid 1

"Indeed, if none of us a versed in dealing with ghosts, Father Grimburrow should at least be of some help." Girvin finally spoke up after ravenously finishing his plate. He'd slept fitfully through the night after wrestling with the events of the previous day - something very bad was definitely afoot and he had a lot of new information about his friend the professor to digest at the same time. After taking a contented stretch to finish waking himself and to settle breakfast the gnome pushed himself to his feet. "That was excellent Kendra, thank you." Taking a moment to survey the other's and their progress on breakfast he added: "Should we head out after breakfast? Or do any of you have plans for the morning?"

Male Gnome Druid 1

"Alas friends, books are decidedly not my strong suit so I'll leave them to you for now to do what you will. I need to check on Vincent outside, and then I'm off to bed for the evening. If I can't help with the readings, maybe at least sleeping on what we've learned from the journal will help enlighten our path tomorrow. If you need me for anything feel free to wake me - any service I can do to aid Lorrimor's wishes and memory is worth a few hours of sleep - otherwise I'll be up before the sun." With a brief nod to the room, the gnome took a step backwards then turned and headed for the door. He could be heard returning to the house about ten minutes later as he made his way to his room for the night.

Male Gnome Druid 1

Sorry, I meant to post earlier but I had a small emergency where my laptop refused to take a charge. I think it's all remedied now.

Male Gnome Druid 1

Following Father Grimburrow's excellent service, and Sethis' kind words Girvin took a brief moment to compose his thoughts before stepping up. "I've only known the professor for under a year, but he had a considerable impact on me in that time. I'm a foreigner to these lands and had undergone some difficulty initially integrating into society. Lorrimor's kindness and sense of exploration made us fast friends, and I still consider him the closest companion I've had in recent memory despite our infrequent time together. Although nature teaches that all things have their time in the cycle of life, his passing is surely a great sadness to us all as one of our world's brightest lights has just been extinguished.

Thank you, Lorrimor for your life, your work, and the impressions you have made on all our lives. You will be sorely missed."

"If it isn't too much of a burden on you Kendra, I would appreciate seeing the professor one more time before we put him to rest." The statement had seemed innocent enough, until it's repercussions came to fruition. The casket opened like a Pandora's box full of bad emotions - sadness, guilt, and anger flowed over Girvin serving to further dampen the emotionally saturated atmosphere. Having quite quickly seen his fill, Girvin stammered a brief apology and acquiescence to continue the day.

Bearing the casket proved more of an emotional burden than a physical one for the small statured Teech. He quickly found the comfortable carrying height of the others was just above his shoulder, meaning that a voluntary upward push was required for him to bear any weight. It was while trying to decide how much upward force to apply to provide the most aid over the longest distance when their little caravan was upset. The gall of these townsmen to attempt to sully the good professor's name on the day of the funeral was unbelievable, and Girvin was just about to blurt out an angry retort when he thought of something better.

From somewhere behind the speaker a voice rang out, followed by a few muffled grunts of agreement. "Maybe we should leave this to the priests, shouldn't they have the final say over the dead?"

After taking a moment to eye up the relative heights of everyone in attendance, Girvin shrugged slightly and added "It would be an honor, Kendra. Thank you." The fiery haired gnome was dressed as well as he could be considering he had just arrived off of the road - a full length brown coat covering his well worn armor, and a wide brimmed black hat bearing a feather that looked at least as tall as the three and a half foot gnome.

His reserved attitude was unusual, and evidenced how highly he regarded the recently deceased. After speaking his peace, Girvin stepped back and leaned against the nearest wall while he waited for the day to unfold.

Male Gnome Druid 1

Finalized and ready, as far as I can tell. Can't wait to kick things off.

Male Gnome Druid 1

Checking in. Thanks for picking Vincent and I - I think my alias and sheet are pretty much final. The only thing I'm still fiddling with is equipment.

Edit: Reading over other people's sheets, I hit a question. How many traits should we have? I'm used to 2 so I went with one campaign trait and one other, but I'm seeing people with 2 traits +1 campaign trait, and also just the campaign trait. Do I need to reduce or add, or am I okay how I am?
