"O wisdom of the ages, this one asks
Where stand we now amid our tasks?"
Who wants the belt?
Gashelle nods, and leads the way back to the oracle.
"What now," asks Gashelle, uncertain herself.
As is Gashelle.
"I've already scanned for magical auras, and found none. Unless the architects piled silver coins under the sand, or lined their buried treasure in lead-lined chests down there, we should be good to go."
And next stop: PaizoCon!
"So do you imagine the spiders were just accidental then, unlike the golem guardian?"
Gashelle does not offer her glaive.
Gashelle casts blade of blood as part of her attack and a quickened shocking grasp. she takes a 5' step forward, as necessary.
Attack: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (15) + 11 = 26
Damage: 1d10 + 5 + 3d6 ⇒ (4) + 5 + (6, 4, 4) = 23 points plus 5d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 4, 6, 4) = 19 points of electricity.
(And, as always, if they're Chaotic, she has a +2 Attack bonus and does an additional 2d6 ⇒ (2, 3) = 5 points of damage.)
"I wonder if they're friendly."
Gashelle is in G-15, right behind our mystic theurge.
"Maybe less than you'd think."
Wellard, would Gashelle's detect magic catch any extraplanar creatures lurking around here?
Gashelle takes all of this in. In particular, she's distressed that the falsoon have such a depraved view of simple joy and dancing. Lakshmi would be appalled, and even lawful Athena would prickle at that.
She wonders if this is where we'd be able to find the oil.
"I suspect a trap," she says, drily.
Detect Magic.
Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Knowledge (dungeoneering): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21
"Good lady trapfinder, can you detect anything mechanical, that might spin or turn anywhere about this?"
Gashelle feels a strange desire to open both doors. She heard about that happening once. The tiger ate the lady.
"What do you make of the iconography of the pitcher and the wheel?"
"We may need to do a little more scavenging for gems," Gashelle comments. It seems surreal to her, suddenly, that after a couple of months of adventuring, she's so casually talking about trading in precious gemstones. Just one of these would have fed a small family for a year.
Gashelle turns to Avinar and wonders, quietly, "Do you think that ring is messing with her head?"
Does the blue stone fit into its mural, as well?
6-G? Darn!
Gashelle hustles up to 7-D and attacks the mephit in 6-E. This requires an acrobatics roll to avoid an Attack of Opportunity, but she's willing to chance it, in order to avoid clumping with the other party members for the creatures' area effects.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Attack: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (7) + 12 = 19; damage: 1d10 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
I confess I'm not sure where we are in initiative...
Gashelle applies a full attack against one of the southern mephits, preferably one that's already wounded. She casts shocking grasp through her weapon.
Attack: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (19) + 12 = 31; damage 1d10 + 5 + 5d6 ⇒ (5) + 5 + (3, 6, 4, 1, 3) = 27
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27; damage 1d10 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Confirm critical: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13; damage 1d10 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Gashelle will be happy to do so.
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (4) + 11 = 15; damage: 1d10 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
7J.
To the south?
And the room?
Gashelle looks to make sure that the only combat is coming from the western corridor.
She moves up behind Avinar and attacks with reach, casting blade of blood, and taking the 5 points of damage. 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (15) + 11 = 26, with damage of 1d10 + 5 + 3d6 ⇒ (4) + 5 + (2, 2, 3) = 16. I don't recall mephits being chaotic-aligned. If so, the attack roll has a +2 modifier, and they take and additional 2d6 ⇒ (4, 4) = 8 damage.
Gashelle: 7J.
Gashelle laughs and a lop-sided grin comes over her expression. Drawing her glaive, she asks, "Which one needs breaking first?"
Gashelle doesn't look happy at all. "Breaking the room doesn't feel right. It's the kind of thing that vandals, or servants of the .. whatever-it-is down in the basement might do.
"Before we do anything we can't undo, Etariel, do you want to double-check that odd little gem in the western alcove?"
Wellard, what would we need to do, in order to view the Falsoom wall scenes clearly in this room?
"Does that sound Lawful to you?"
"Back to explore the mirror hallways?"
"Let's rest here and let Aude regain her powers. And we have some cleaning yet to do. Etariel, did you want to prepare invisibility for that mirror-and-light room?
Gashelle isn't all too pleased with the last answer. Oracles are supposed to be cryptic, but she's never heard of one to insist: 'that's for me to know and you to find out.' Stupid oracles.
She gives way to any of her companions who have mysteries they'd like revealed.
"Let all revere the good Falsoom, and know their service loyal.
But say, o wisdom of the ages, how might we find this oil?"
Gashelle nods, afraid to speak and ruin her question.
"A 'jewel born of light'? Well, I suspect we know what's up with that mirror room, then."
"We swore this morn, when we awoke,
That we would end this tempest strange,
And now it seems we have the tool
With which that end we may arrange.
But whence this water, oil jewel?
Who built this place, these tortoise folk?"
"O Oracle, we pray inform:
What must we do, to quell the storm?"
As does Gashelle. What could possibly go wrong?
Knowledge arcana (4 ranks +10),
Knowledge dungeoneering (4 ranks +10),
Knowledge geography (1 rank +7),
Knowledge planes (1 rank +7)
To the best of our knowledge, what was the room intended to be? A temple, or meditative chamber, or what else?
Gashelle attempts to Aid Another, helping whoever has the best chance of knowing. 1d20 ⇒ 7, applied with either a +3 modifier (if unskilled) or one of the modifiers above.
DM Wellard wrote: Let me get this right..you are going to try and set the room to rights? That would take some hours even if you all work on it. Well, we have some hours.
Please, let's not take the horses into this holy room. Out in the halls seems more respectful.
So, after we clear off the floor and straighten out the room, what does the place look like?
"So do we close the door, sweep out the place, and take our rest in here?
All good. It's pretty simple at 6th level: no feats, no attribute increases.
Looking for advice in the discussion thread.
"Ordo" was the construct?
"I think it's time to rest," Gashelle says, looking around the room.
Gashelle has already attacked this round.
Surprise, indeed!
"My friends, this swarm is either intelligent enough to have made a moral choice towards chaos, or else it is summoned from the outer wilds themselves. In either case, it certainly doesn't belong in these halls of law."
Ouch!
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
On her turn, Gashelle will move to H10 or H9, so that she's of the swarm, repositioning the glaive in both hands as she does so, and then attack. 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13
1d10 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13, halved to 6 points.
And the swarm?
H-12.
Swarms, Gashelle thinks grimly. She casts ray of frost on the swarm. (Ranged touch attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10; damage 1d3 ⇒ 1)
