Gargerath the Bold hates the giants. He knows that his people were simple animals before the giants raised them to sentience and he hates them for it. He believes that they only raise the Sibeccai to die for their wars and every kindness since is a pitiful attempt to make up for the loss of innocence that they inflicted on his people. But he bides his time, knowing that the best strike must be planned for, given time to put the blade in the exact right position to do the most damage. And he is that blade. Until then, he wears his suit of giant skin, boiled black so that it seems to be simple leather jack and he waits. Appearance
Backstory Spoiler:
Gargerath was once a loyal servant of the giants, in training to become a guardian for his lord, as his father had done before him. His master lead him through the naming ceremony. He was there when Gargerath undertook the ceremony that gave him his iron skin, enduring hours tied to a particularly nasty dire badger. He would have gladly given his life and his oath in the name of his master. All until he struck a young Sibeccai girl who failed to bring his breakfast quickly enough. At that moment, the scales fell from his eyes and he launched himself at the giant, committing the cardinal sin of assaulting a giant. For this his own father disowned him, stripped him naked and cast him out of his city, without honor and without house. Gargerath fled into the wilderness, becoming little more than an animal for nearly a year. It was only when he encountered a band of bandits that he realized his purpose, to overthrow the giants and cast them from his adopted homeland. He learned what he could of fighting and freedom from the bandits and then set off to begin his crusade. As his luck would have it, the first city he was in he became drunk on stout beer and struck a giant city official. For this he was beaten and thrown from town. He was discovered and nursed to health by a fellow outcast, a greenbond giant. Gargerath has had to revise his opinion of this giant, recognizing that kindred spirits can come in many shapes. Still, he wishes the ruling giants gone and sees the return of the dragons a convenient excuse for this end. |
