"Twitch, I know what you're thinking, and no, I'm not going to lower you back into the hole. I don't care how boring it is, we don't want to get you stuck in there. *Stands up and stretches* You know, now that I think of it I am sick of being cooped up in here. How about we go try to find the others. How hard could it be, right?"

"Sure," agrees Twitch. "Even if we can't find them, we can at least get something to eat. I'm starving."

Twitch, Korren, Magnus

Just wanting to know if you are waiting for the others or will attempt to access the cloth yourselves?

We're waiting at the moment - although Twitch would be up for some exploration if the waiting gets too tedious...

"Well it certainly wasnt crowded...wherever it was that handkerchief leads," offers Twitch hopefully. "Maybe we should poke around inside for a little while before the others get back. In the interests of gathering intelligence, of course."

Pulling his head out of the black portal, Twitch begins feeling around the edge, seeing if he can find some way to close the portal and fold it back into a handkerchief again.

"Err, it seems to lead...somewhere else," he says. "and there were...people?...coming. I think we should maybe close it up and take it somewhere a bit more secluded before we go exploring."

GM:

Spoiler:
If I can, I'll try and reach down to grab the table and pull it back into the room with me. If I can't reach it, I'll just return to tell Korren and Magnus what we've discovered.

Korren Duras wrote:
"Well then. Twitch, you want to stick your head in or should I?"

"What do you reckon?" grins Twitch. "Grab my ankles."

Making sure Korren has a firm grasp of him, Twitch brings his face right up to the hole as he lies along the floor. Taking a deep breath he then plunges his head into the blackness.

Ahh, the memories of exploring the tomb of horrors come flooding back...Probably should have at least pulled the sunrod out to see if it was ok. :)

It's not really Twitch's thing, but if he can try untrained...

Untrained knowledge(arcana) roll. (1d20+1=7)

...he can fail miserably.

Korren slouches down in his chair, looking dejected. "So, this is it? Just a handkerchief? Maybe you should wave it around a few times, see if it's magic."

"Hmmm, good plan," agrees Twitch, turning the black scrap of material around and around, checking to see if there is anything wrapped in it before lifting it up and concentrating hard.

Use magic device attempt. (1d20+9=18)

Twitch, Korren

Making your way through the Brink’s Gate you head directly to the Gryphon’s Arms. It lies upon Brink’s hill a fairly well to do neighborhood just to the south east of the city proper. Despite being just outside of the city every manse is well guarded and with the exception of a single house seems to be in as good of a condition as the city itself. The Inn is located in the center of the hill in between all of these large fortified homes. It seems a much better patrolled area then the city. The rain has let up and there is even a few children playing. Not that you didn’t see kids inside the city walls, but rather these children, both human and Dwur seem to be actually enjoying the day. You find Magnus inside the main lobby waiting for you. He presents a unique sight. For though everyone in the area is armed. Magnus seems more capable of using his weapons then those around him. Human or Dwur.

Magnus
Having about as much hospitality as you can stand . you wait for your companions, enjoying the much needed relief of the rains dyeing down, to enter the building. You can’t help but notice that they are not carrying an Axe when they enter.

"Magnus," begins Twitch, acknowledging the Dwur with a nod. "No luck, I'm afraid. There were a number of potential hiding places, but it looks like someone has got to them before us. We overheard some stablehands talking about someone who got rich by finding some hidden treasure. They only mentioned diamonds though." he concludes with a shrug.

"Oh I did find this - I don't suppose your ancestor had some extreme attachment to his handkerchief?" Twitch fishes out a folded, black handkerchief. Dusty and covered with cobwebs. "It's about all I have to show for my efforts I'm afraid. Did you come up with anything Korren?"

DM:

Spoiler:
No I'll keep it - just in case. I'll pass it to Korren when we get back to an inn and catch up with Magnus.

"A black handkerchief - like that's going to make us rich," mutters Twitch to himself. He continues moving through the building, checking it thoroughly for any further compartments. As he does so, he takes care to remain out of sight of the workers in the building.

Stealth roll to avoid the workers. (1d20+34=54)

Search rolls looking for other caches/secret compartments. (1d20+20=40, 1d20+20=36, 1d20+20=27)

"Let's go Korren," whispers Twitch as Magnus distracts the guard. Finding a moment when he is not looking, Twitch attempts to sneak into the livery to begin snooping around.

Stealth roll (unmodified for difficulty or anything else). (1d20+34=48)

"Well, now we have a place to stay, so what do we do now?"

Twitch scratches himself absently, looking around. "I suppose it's too early to eat again?" he muses half to himself.

Aerflae Windwaker wrote:
"Unless it is a curse you have brought along. What was it that the esteemed elder told you?"

"Esteemed elder!" snorts Twitch, "More like senile, old fool." He looks at Aerflae with a shrug. "To be honest we never really figured out what it meant, or indeed if it actually meant anything at all. Like I say - I think she was a fraud. All I know is she was the first to call us the storm riders, claimed it was all part of some vision she'd had. After that the name stuck. I doubt it had anything to do with what happened to us later..." Twitch trails off into thought, looking into the distance as he remembers lost companions.

Magnus Shalefist wrote:

"I have heard tales of these 'storm riders', they where cursed by a god of storms and now wherever they ride they're followed by storm clouds and bad luck".

Do I know anything more about the storm riders? History check=20

"Are ye suggesting the gloom o'er the city is caused by a group of cursed mercenaries that ain't even here yet, not likely. Tis more likely something was left here in the city when the giants left. Istivin wasn’t retaken by force the giants and their masters just left letting the kings troops have the city. Lots of nasty things could’ve been left ta vex the humans.”

I push out the empty chairs at the table with my foot indicating to the others to join us.

"Hey, watch who you're calling cursed, I prefer to think of us as exciting to have around," grins Twitch as he sits at one of the chairs. "Anyhow, I was never really convinced that that old woman ever really knew what she was talking about. Make enough predictions of doom and you're bound to get one or two right."

Korren Duras wrote:
"Well, that was interesting", says Korren uncertainly. He then walks over to Twitch. "Second strangest bar fight we've ever seen, don't you think?

"I was thinking exactly the same thing, at least everyone is fully clothed this time." frowning slightly as he grows more serious, he continues talking to Korren in a low voice as they return to their table. "It seemed pretty obvious to me they werent in control of themselves - I assumed it was some sort of spell, but I couldn't spot anyone working any obvious magic."

"This is not right," mutters Twitch to himself. Still reluctant to get involved until he knows what's wrong, he awaits further developments, scanning the crowd for anything suspicious.

As long as the brawl is just the two of them, Twitch isnt going to get involved - he's just watching the room. If it spreads, or if he notices anyone else acting strangely he may take action.

DM Jester wrote:
Twitch it seems it is your Init. The two men are going at it, but strangely no one else in the place is doing anything about it or rather getting involved in the least bit. In any establishment of this nature you have been in, let alone a dwarf bar this is as good an excuse as any for a bar fight. No one looks ready to do anything. what is your action?

Puzzled at the lack of enthusiasm shown by the other patrons, Twitch slips down from his chair and makes his way to the wall, close to the door leading out to the main street. Leaving his weapons drawn, he sweeps his gaze across the room, watching the other patrons in case the half-hearted bar fight is merely a distraction for something else.

Perception check if needed. (1d20+20=23)

Twitch is listening to the others' conversation intently, the rest of his attention being taken up by the enormous plate of food before him.

Perception roll. (1d20+20= 21)

To Aerflae Windwaker: "Well elf is me or is the strangeness of the city particularly strong in this inn"? "All this weirdness is putting me off my ale and you know what happens when a Dwur is off his ale, headbustin starts".

As Twitch gulps down his second course he looks over at the dwarf, interupting.

"Well if you're not going to finish it, I could help you out," he offers with a grin. "Weirdness or not - a guy's gotta eat."

"Hmmm, what are you having?" Twitch asks Korren. "I can't decide between the rice and peas or scrambled goose eggs and ham. Better have both I guess...oh and a plate of fruit too...with a couple of biscuits."

"Why don't you have curds and whey?" he whispers to his friend. "I've never had any, so I could try some of yours." Having ordered two and a half meals, Twitch tosses the waitress a gold coin and wanders over to sit with his new companions.

Korren Duras wrote:
"Who knows, there are just so many choices. Vecna. The cult of Asmodeus. The Gnomish Conspiracy to Sap and Impurify Our Precious Bodily Fluids."

"Ahh...that ancient Triumvirate of Evil!" chuckles Twitch.

"Guard your bodily fluids! Those damn gnomes are everywhere!" he announces to a startled passerby as the group moves through the city.

Korren Duras wrote:

*Stands there, confused*

"Twitch, did that blind guy just stare at me, tell me it is always watching, then wander off? I just want to make sure."

"Like that's the strangest thing that's ever happened to you," Twitch grins at his companion. "I think it's more incredible that you managed to pass through a crowd of beggars without me having to run off after one of them chasing your purse."

"Although it was a bit odd...who's always watching, do you think?"

Falling into line with the others, Twitch complains noisily to Korren as the group slowly progresses in the queue. Every few minutes, he peers up the line intently, watching how the progress is going and trying to will the line forward.

"I can't stand this," he mutters to his friend as he takes a coin from his pouch and begins to roll it over his knuckles. "What's the point in this charade anyway? Anyone with half a brain could get into the city without being seen. All they're doing is questioning the ones who have nothing to hide while the guilty are creeping in unmolested. City guards should be out catching criminals, not interrogating innocent visitors."

Shaking his head in annoyance, the halfling continues trying to amuse himself with the coin, practising making it vanish then pulling it from unlikely places about Korren's person.

"I'm bored," he sighs eventually. "How about we just sneak in? I'm sure we could both slip past the guards with no trouble."

Korren Duras wrote:

"Yes, a warm bed would be a nice change of pace."

Korren walks up beside Twitch and whispers to him "So, think he's the one we heard about?"

"If not, he may well know where we would find him," answers Twitch quietly. Turning to the dwarf he grins. "Dwarven drink has always been a little strong for me, but dwarven company is always entertaining. Why don't you lead the way?"

New Language:

Thieves Cant
This secretive and closely-guarded language of slang, gestures, signals, and body language was developed by Thieves’ Guilds throughout the Flanaess centuries ago and remains in use to this day. The cant is used by the local thieves and assassins guilds of Seltaren, as well as by many of the Seekers, to identify marks and each other on the street to prevent any in-fighting where possible.

This language may be treated as a Class-Related Language skill for Rogues native to the area. A successful Knowledge (local) skill check DC 20 identifies a user of the language, though without an understanding of the language itself, nothing more may be discerned.

It is based on an ancient form of halfling.

I've taken this instead of Elven, if that's ok. Although Twitch isnt a thief, he's known a few...

Seems like we are only waiting for one character. Does everyone feel ok with me adding a few things for backgrounds, such as who you know when and why?

Sorry for the delay. Please have a look over and let me know if there's anything I should change. I can either go mad with a background, or leave it up to you to flesh out and mesh with the other PCs.
