The man looks at Corso with a puzzled face: "I don't remember the fancy words he used. Something with wax and about not catching the plague. Sorry, I don't know anything else."

I'm not sure but it could be the same for me this weekend. Please bear with me should I respond with great delay.

"I dunno..." The man obviously fumbles for words. "Maybe. She said, she'd need a hand with something and that it could help with the troubles. That's all I know."

I'm on the fence if Bit of Luck works on Diplomacy as the ability only allows this for a check made in the next round. A Diplomacy check to influence someone's attitude (strictly mechanically speaking) takes 10 minutes IIRC. So for now I'll go with 'not possible'.

"Ilq...", the farmer-type looks puzzled. "No, it was Catalina who brought me here." His forehead wrinkles. "But wait... yes, there was this strange butterfly-y... thing. He told me to climb into one of these vats to get vax... vacky... whatever. Seemed like a decent fellow and a good idea, so I did." He stops for a second to think. "That's the last thing I remember.

Please do take me home, I really feel like I need to get some sleep."

While you make up your mind, the potion that Luke dribbled down one of the townspeople's throat comes into effect and the man gasps back to life. "What happened?!" he exclaims, trying to get his bearings on the dim lit room. "Where am I?"

I rolled poorly for each of the three (it is 1d8, right?).

The strength-drain was a poison but Lorzub is no longer considered poisoned and not at risk of taking more damage.

The burns on the townsfolk disappear but all of them remain unconscious.

Not sure if I'm missing my cue... Waiting for Adalieh to take care of the wounded PCs.

Besides some minor burns from the wax and being unconscious, the three people seem unharmed.

Medraut:
You take a good look at the barrels standing around the workshop and find one of them labelled "Paraffin" next to the furnace that in fact holds two sets of studded leather armor, a masterwork chain shirt, 4 daggers, a masterwork short sword, a composite shortbow (+1 strength bonus) and 15 arrows, and, as your magic senses and knowledge reveal, a potion of cure moderate wounds. Other than that, you find nothing specifically of interest to you in the room and the adjacent closets.

Luke finds Adalieh outside the house, her gaze fixed on the sky.

The morning sky is grey and unfriendly. If you didn't know, it would be hard to tell what time of day it was in the depressing, diffuse light, attenuated by the thick, closed clouds.

Back in the cellar below the chandlery, the rest of the group works hard to free the captive townfolk. Fane tries his best to help while Oana is still drenched in tears and obviously on the verge of a complete breakdown.

It takes quite a while until the two men and the watch captain's daughter are cleared enough to pull them out of their paraffin prison. Carefully you lie them down on the floor, still unconscious.

Fane takes on a puzzled expression, obviously struggling to keep up with Luke's explanations. "Well, the Baron never actually introduced us to Ilquis. Ilquis just said that he would come with his authority and we never questioned that. He was very convincing and why would you claim such a thing if it weren't true?

Ilquis told us to get some of the villagers here. Catalina had already helped for some time when we joined them a couple of days ago. I got Delian to come here and helped keep the furnace lit. Oana is much more nimble than me so she helped with the waxing.

I really don't know what it is exactly that Ilquis was going to do, all I know is that there wasn't a doubt in my mind that it's for the good of the town. And then you showed up."

"Catalina?" Oana sobs and hurries towards the room next door, freezing in the doorway. "She... she's been sick for a while... we were working extra hard to find a cure for her... you... oh, dear Lord..." The devastated woman breaks down crying. Fane walks over to her, putting a consoling hand on her shoulder. "Darling, I think they have a point. Look at all this death around us. Irini and the others are already rotting. They couldn't have stashed them just a few moments ago." He turns towards the group. "Please, explain this to us. All we were trying to do, was help! And Ilquis came with the baron's authority! I don't know what exactly he was planning but it made perfect sense when he explained it to us. He told me to bring Delian, the butcher's son here for cleansing and so I did." He points to one of the vats. "Please tell us what's going on here!"

Without a sound the bright light in the large room suddenly winks out and the strange workshop is once again only illuminated by the dim light radiated by the furnace.

I'm not sure what you mean by your last question, Corso.

"No...", Oana slowly produces when she sees the corpses in the closets. "That can't be Ilquis fault! He wouldn't do that, he's here to help! Oh Midnight Lord help me... That's Irini... and Neliana... and... Durvik... no, no, no, it can't be true!" She bursts into tears upon recognizing the victims and runs into Fane's arms. He comforts her and says gruffly, but with watery eyes: "You're lying! You stashed them there while we were out! Ilquis would never betray us like that! He's our friend!"

Meanwhile, Luke keeps hacking at the cold wax, painstakingly clearing inch by inch.

Medraut:
You have no idea who or what these sacrifices could have been to.

Luke:
You find nothing more of interest in the first storage chamber. A quick glance into the second and third, however, reveal three more dead bodies, all in the same condition as the first two.

Adalieh:
The bodies have been dead for about a week. They are covered in a thin layer of wax but the cause of death is a brutal stab wound in the chest. Connecting this gruesome image with the makeshift altar in the center of the large room, you think they were killed in some kind of ritual. To what purpose, you cannot say.

Luke chips away at the wax encasing the young girl, making little but steady progress.

Thanks Lorzub!

Luke:
Both bodies are male, one of them is definitely dead for about a week, about the second one you're not so sure. They are covered in a thin layer of wax. The cause of death, however, was probably the gaping chest wound both of them display that looks as if a dagger was thrust into their hearts.

That is correct, Luke.

Luke:
You open the first door and peer into the room. The strangely bright magical light in the main room fades out here and the chamber lies half in darkness. It appears to be filled with cotton cord and twine, cleaning supplies, raw wax, and organic resins, but the most notable content are the two motionless human bodies, dressed in commoner's clothes and smeared with some oily residue.

Corso:
You move over to the vats and pull yourself up to take a look inside. To your horror, you find a young girl matching the description of Olya Groy in one of them, a teenage boy in the second and a middle-aged man with weathered skin in the third, all of them unconscious and encased to their necks in wax!

Oana stares blankly at Corso, raising an eyebrow. "Wha..?" She then turns to Adalieh and says "Listen, I appreciate you taking an interest in our troubles here. But we really don't know what's going on and Ilquis was our last hope! That's why the Baron hired him to work his magic here. I don't know why you would bring the Lady in, she never did nothing to nobody. I'm sure those damn fetchlings have some hand in this but Ilquis apparently didn't think so. He was preparing some kind of ritual. For 'cleansing' he called it. We have the first lucky ones right there!" She points to the large vats in the back of the room. "They never got sick with this strange plague. So it works!" Fane just nods while his companion talks, rubbing his arm and bruised chin. "But now you spooked him and we're lost!"

Adalieh:
Fane and Oana seem to be fine except for the bruises.

Oops, sorry, I forgot to mention that

Oana just stares blankly at Luke, obviously not understanding what the cleric is talking about. She opens her mouth a couple of times to say something, but for now remains speechless. Instead she turns around to help Fane back on his feet.

Medraut:
You still sense the enchantment auras on Fane and Oana as well as an aura of evocation originating from one of the vats in the back of the room, where Ilquis touched it at the beginning of the battle.

Fane and Oana both open their eyes, groaning. Oana is the first to regain her composure: "What... I... where is the... What the Hell did you do?!" She stumbles to her feet and lifts an accusing finger towards you: "Now he's gone and we don't stand a chance agaist this cursed disease! Oh, I hope the Baron has your heads for this!"

Finally Luke lives up to his nickname and hits home. "Gah!" Ilquis exclaims snidely, "You're not even worth my time! The baron will make you pay for this! Sooooo lohohong!"

And with these parting words the buzzing sound of quickly flapping wings ceases.

Intitiative is lifted

The sphere moves around and next to Lorzub, where the last attack apparently came from and stops, but nothing seems to happen. "Tihihi", Ilquis chuckles, "Too slow, foohoohool!"

Luke is back on his feet and says his blessing on Oana who still lies motionless on the floor next to her companion Fane.

Correct.
Medraut gestures wildly but does not catch the elemental's attention. It is too busy to get rid of Fane, who is desperately trying to get to Oana. With a shockingly powerful blow, the earthy creature strikes Fane down.

Maybe the gory picture was a little too distracting for Luke as his swing seems inept and fails to connect once again.

Fane is lying on the floor next to his companion Oana, a small puddle of blood flowing from underneath them.

"You can crush those fools, but youuuu shall not kill what youuuu can't seeee...hihihi!" smirks your invisible opponent, apparently on the move while doing so. The next moment, Luke feels a pointy blade in his back but its wielder seems hesitant to thrust for some reason and the cleric pushes the invisible blade aside. Sadly, Luke seems to be momentarily out of his proverbial luck as he only splits air with his swing.
Fane meanwhile tries to help Oana escape the elemental's clutches but his struggle to loosen the rocky creature's claws is fruitless.

This time from another side, Corso is stung at a hurtful spot and almost passes out from the pain. 12 hp damage

Lorzub, feeling the cold from the wound dissipating, ponders his next move.

The elemental moves towards Oana with outstretched limbs and tries to get a hold on her. The furious woman manages to swing her club at it and smash a few chunks of earth, but she can't avert the hold.
7 hp damage for the elemental
To Luke's disappointment, his swing doesn't connect.
Fane stands up and, seeing Oana in obvious danger, storms towards the elemental, bringing his club down on it. His attack is too angry and too poorly aimed to cause any damage, however.

Lorzub cringes as his recent wound starts to act up again. The cold still radiates from it like an unnatural taint.1 Str damage

You take in the air of the room and filter out the smell of the wax. A hint of pine and rainwater catches your attention and you move to close in on it. As you near the place where Lorzub got hurt, your newly gained sense assures you: The invisible creature is right in front of you!

Out of thin air a bugbear appears right next to where Lorzub stood just a moment ago. To your relief, it speaks with Corso's voice as it swings its sword hard at the space in front of it. And the swing connects! A coughed curse can be heard and blood spills on the floor but the villain remains unseen.

Unfortunately, the net simply tumbles to the ground without capturing anything.

Fane gets back on his feet and follows Luke. Once the cleric is in reach, he tries to pull him towards the door but can't get him to move.
