Annnd, here are the chronicle sheets! Sorry about the delay. @_@

Please don't be alarmed by all of the crossed out pieces. Three of them are Faction boons and one would apply only if you were expelled from the Lion Blades. Please look over your sheet and let me if there's a problem! Barring that, let me know that you've received it. c: I'll close the game out once everyone's got their sheet.

@Xavier: You can put your purchases on either chronicle, but if you haven't put them on the previous one, go ahead and drop them onto this one. I've left the Gold Spent and Total boxes empty for you to edit as necessary. c:

@Ilathor: Alas, the shield itself doesn't talk! Rather, you can think of it as carrying a part of Glorymane with you, especially with the empathic connection you would have with it... But who knows? Maybe you can help grant the Guardian speech later on? c:

"That is... very impressive," he says, leaning back in his seat. The Venture-Captain pauses for a moment before grinning broadly. "And here you are! I'm very pleased with your hard work! You've done very well and I'll be sure my report reflects as much. Go on and rest - it's late. Feel free to visit Patsy's Premier Pastries again, too, if you'd like. It'll be on me."

With that, he dismisses you back into the world, obviously proud of your adventure.

Grand Lodge:
"Were you able to learn anything about that cypher?" he asks quietly once the others are gone.

Given the excess time you spent in the Library, I've gone ahead and added the "random" notes to the texts you would have uncovered, so feel free to give 'em a look and see if you can't figure it out! c:

Dark Archives:
When Zarta does finally get her hands on the text, she's very much excited about the find. It takes about a while, but you eventually get a message from her describing her learnings, giving you insight into the undead and necromancy.

Sign-up sheet| #5-11: Library of the Lion

Oof, had some family things pop up - I'll try to get the sheets out in the next 48 hours. @_@ Sorry for the delay!

Sign-up sheet| #5-11: Library of the Lion

I'm very sorry for all of the delays we've encountered, guys - especially on my end. Still, thank you so much for sticking it out and playing with me until the end. :) We've effectively finished the adventure - I'll add some more appropriate fluff after everyone's had the opportunity to respond and sheets will be posted here this weekend.

At the acknowledgement, the Guardian leans forward to delicately grasp the shield in its mouth. It closes its eyes and resettles, concentrating. After approximately a minute, the shield's patina recedes, leaving a bright and burnished surface. When next the Guardian speaks, his voice is much calmer than before. "A welcome change, this!" the lion practically purs. "I share my name only with my true friends and in bringing part of me with you, I think you have earned the right to it. I am Glorymane. This shield will carry a spark of its own awareness from this point on and will happily assist any of you so long as the cause is just or the potential for glory great!"

After some brief discussion on how best to get the shield out, the group manages to gather Ilathor - and his findings - back up again, moving to hide their tracks on their way back to the Rare Books room that Tobias had left them in.

They've only just shut the secret door, resetting it, and recollected the illusion cards when a gentle knock announces the librarian's presence.

"I hope you were able to find all you need," Tobias says, stepping through the door. "The performance is nearly over, so you'll want to gather up your things so I can escort you out before the crowds get too thick."

.....

It doesn't take long to exit the Kitharodian Academy premises, but no one really relaxes until the group is once more safely behind the fish and tackle shop that Venture-Captain Muesello has set up. Excited to see you all, he quickly welcomes you into the closed store and locks the doors as he gathers you into the backroom, ready for your report.

"Tell me, what did you learn? Were you able to gather information for the princess? What did you find about the Shining Crusade? How did it go?" he asks, eager.

Sign-up sheet| #5-11: Library of the Lion

Assuming they've found all that needed finding, they return to the Guardian in the library.

The Guardian seems a bit surprised to see you, but that doesn't stop him from being pleased at your find. "Very nice," he praises. "This shield appears to have once held an enchantment not unlike my own. You must be very resourceful to have found it."

His jaws work for a moment before he pauses and asks, "Were I to move into the shield, would you take me with you? I would like to experience the outside world for myself."

Sign-up sheet| #5-11: Library of the Lion

Alas, he does not! c:

Sign-up sheet| #5-11: Library of the Lion

Angry Magic Tree, you would've been able to find that heavy bronze shield with the lion head decoration on it!

Tok Taket:
The stairs actually head back up! And to a room quite similar to the reference room that Tobias had left you in. The only real difference is that the illusions you had set with the cards aren't here. You're reminded of the evening's entertainment, though, as the music practically resounds through the walls. Aside from that, though, there doesn't appear to be much reason for you to be here - rather, it's a good thing no one else was here when you opened the trap door! Your cover might've been blown if not for the musical show.

Sign-up sheet| #5-11: Library of the Lion

Because of the overall time limit on the adventure, I don't think it's appropriate to Take 20 as time is limited. I don't think there's anything wrong with assisting each other with perception though - divide and conquer!

Sign-up sheet| #5-11: Library of the Lion

Here, the group finds suggestions of the many primary, unmodified accounts of events from millennia ago, original versions of laws since replaced, records of foreign policy debacles quickly silenced in the interest of decorum, and remarkably objective (and sometimes empathetic) biographies of enemies of the state. There's not enough time to go through everything, but the ten minutes are sufficient for them to find two texts: a thin journal and a long scroll.

Perception DC 20:
There is a heavy bronze shield decorated with a lion's head in a similar not dissimilar to the Guardian's. It appears to have little intrinsic value, but maybe you can find a use for it?

Time remaining: 50/120 minutes

Sign-up sheet| #5-11: Library of the Lion

Thank you! And apologies - map fully revealed c:

Sign-up sheet| #5-11: Library of the Lion

At the casters' bidding, the lions are placed in order - the first is History, the second is Cunning, the third is Perseverence - sometimes mistaken for stoicism - and the last lion with the flag draped over its back is Loyalty!

When Tok carefully pushes the secret door open, it eases open with ease, revealing a hidden vault.

Chests of expert craftsmanship line the walls, and on the far side of the room stand two bookshelves burdened with yellow-paged tomes and sundry ancient trinkets. Banners and tapestries cover nearly every inch of the walls, each representing long-dead nations or depicting conflicts left not chronicled.

Absolutely sorry! I've had super spotty internet for the past couple of days - we went out to a lake house and I had internet for a brief period, but not internet so great that I could access my dropbox notes for the game. I just got home and I'm crashing hard, but I'll do my best to have something up before I head to work in the morning!

Sign-up sheet| #5-11: Library of the Lion

Absolutely! It hasn't been thirty minutes yet, much less an hour. c: Just keep in mind that she might get suspicious if the door opens and shuts on its own again.

Sign-up sheet| #5-11: Library of the Lion

Don't forget to place yourselves in the room. c: Positioning is important!

Sign-up sheet| #5-11: Library of the Lion

Sorry about that! The family emergency appears to be over. @_@

Quickly going over the room for traps, Ilathor finds that the large lion carving is sylistically similar to the Guardian, but conceals what appears to be a secret door. He doesn't think the statuettes would work and the carving itself seems impractical to carry. There's a stone step below the door that has four shallow, cylindrical recesses that are the same size as the base on each of the six freestanding statuettes scattered about the room.

Each miniature lion is portrayed uniquely. One crouches as if preparing to ambush its prey! The second is roaring as it leaps at its target and the third wears a yoke that is chained to a large block that the lion strains to pull. The fourth wears what appears to be a tiny pair of spectacles and reads from an ornate scroll. The fifth is draped in the flag of Taldor and the sixth sits erect and wears a crown.

Although Waze and Angry Magic Tree poke around to make sure they've gotten all of the relevant information, they find little in the way of further clues. Rather, they find two different glass containers in the desk, one a strange grey color and the other a shimmering blue.

They could be potentially useful - but their absence might also raise questions.

Tok barely has a chance to glance down the corridor to yet another door before Ilathor makes a rush for it, clothes more or less flapping in the nonexistant wind. Pushing the door open, he sees that cabinets with two tall drawers each line the east and west walls of the room. A relief carving of a lion's head dominates the south wall, hanging imperiously over a low stone step. Six freestanding statuettes of lions in various poses stand atop the furniture.

Sorry for the extra delay today, folks! A family friend's was stranded at an airport one state over, so we ended up driving for... about six hours and rescuin' him for the weekend until the airlines can untangle the mess. Xavier, I hope you feel better soon!

Searching through the room, Waze finds some journals relevant to the Shining Crusade. These entries appear to have been written from generals of the time. Ilathor and Yates work to correcting the sad state of the books as the Wayang searches, bringing the texts to some semblance of their former selves. As avid readers, they might notice that the books are decidedly more battered than their neighbors, though they're certainly not as devastated as they were when they first began their work.

Tok carefully sets to work disassembling the trap. There's a brief moment where he thinks he's about to take the projectile to the face, but a deft twist of the hand saves him from a painful looking fate. Opening the trap door reveals a corridor beyond it, but perhaps there might still be some useful information here...?

As soon as Tok is out of the way, Angry Magic Tree tosses her flask, landing a decisive blow against the book swarm. The books fall to the ground in quite the mess. There are mangled spines, pages that were torn from the books, and dogeared pages. Needless to say, if anyone were to encounter the remnants of the books, it would likely be obvious someone had been there.

Combat over! Sorry for the delay - testing and grading for school. @_@

It's a large swarm made up of books! c: It's a lot of books that are just very unhappy with the intruders. I apologize for the lack of clarity - I apparently never resized the image.

Ilathor:
As you might have already realized, you're up against a book swarm! It's a construct and has swarm defensive abilities! Also, considering it's made up of books and, well. Very flammable materials... You're aware it's vulnerable to fire.

Also, since you would know that the swarm is immune to any spell or effect that targets a specific number of creatures (such as Magic Missile), you're welcome to do something else. c:

Swarm Defensive Abilities

Spoiler:
Traits: A swarm has no clear front or back and no discernible anatomy, so it is not subject to critical hits or flanking. A swarm made up of Tiny creatures takes half damage from slashing and piercing weapons. A swarm composed of Fine or Diminutive creatures is immune to all weapon damage. Reducing a swarm to 0 hit points or less causes it to break up, though damage taken until that point does not degrade its ability to attack or resist attack. Swarms are never staggered or reduced to a dying state by damage. Also, they cannot be tripped, grappled, or bull rushed, and they cannot grapple an opponent.

A swarm is immune to any spell or effect that targets a specific number of creatures (including single-target spells such as disintegrate), with the exception of mind-affecting effects (charms, compulsions, morale effects, patterns, and phantasms) if the swarm has an Intelligence score and a hive mind. A swarm takes half again as much damage (+50%) from spells or effects that affect an area, such as splash weapons and many evocation spells.

Swarms made up of Diminutive or Fine creatures are susceptible to high winds, such as those created by a gust of wind spell. For purposes of determining the effects of wind on a swarm, treat the swarm as a creature of the same size as its constituent creatures. A swarm rendered unconscious by means of nonlethal damage becomes disorganized and dispersed, and does not reform until its hit points exceed its nonlethal damage.

For simplicity's sake, I've adjusted the turn order slightly! Also, I apologize for this, but I missed the bleed last time, but moving forwards, please be aware that this particular enemy also causes bleed! Papercuts, man. c:

Yates takes a quick swipe at the books with his surprisingly sturdy scarf, but misses! The swarm of books parts before his scarf just as he would've made contact. Xavier does manage to make it to Tok, however, and quickly jabs him with his wand, effectively reviving the poor Tengu. The others gather, done with their other tasks, and come to their allies' aid. Because books are scary. The flying mass of papers moves to attack Xavier, whirling around the halfling warpriest in a violent tornado of angry papercuts and bruises!

You guys are the absolute best. Thank you so much for your patience! c: Post incoming!

Sign-up sheet| #5-11: Library of the Lion

I'm sorry for disappearing today, guys. I'm super frazzled. I was going to post like normal and give you the heads up that I'll be out for the next few days (friend's wedding!), but I also just learned that payroll dun derped with my paycheck so I got paid for 1/11th of the total amount I was supposed to get and it's been a royal mess.

Also, it's been the kind of day where what I planned to post got eaten. I'll try to have something up tomorrow, before I leave, but I wanted to let you know I haven't forgotten you guys and I'm super sorry for not posting today. x_x

@AMT: Let me take a crack at it and see if I can't figure something out to help. c: Thank you so much for pointing this out to me - I was just worrying about this.

EDIT: I've added colored borders to each of the clues and numbers to the map. The numbers are how many clues you obtained from the room they're on. The colors correspond to the colored borders of the clues themselves! I hope this helps!

@Tok Taket: In the spoiler, I've noted that the bolded may act. c: The books have acted in this post and presently, both you and Yates are free to act. Xavier has come around and is looking to help, so he'll be inserted into the initiative in the next round...

Splitting the party does strange things to timing.

I hope that helps. @_@

Xavier:
Xavier, if you were to start from the desk, it would take a double move just to get to the door of the room the two are in. If you're starting from in front of the desk, it would take a double move to get to Tok, so you wouldn't be able to heal him just yet! c: Also, you can't normally draw your weapons while moving until you have a BAB of at least +1, but since the time outside of the room isn't on the same scale as the time in the room, I'll allow it this time. c: After the two in the room have taken their turns, I'll stick you into initiative!

For the time being, please move your token. c:

Tok's keen ears catch a bit of confused muttering, but a quiet moment's attention reveals that she seems to have returned to whatever it was she'd been doing before...

And happily, when the doors are tried again, both doors open!

Tok:
Bookcases cover nearly every inch of the walls in this room, which is only faintly illuminated by small lights set into the ceiling. A glass-paned door seals each panel of shelves, keeping the ancient tomes stored within dust free. Even with the faint illumination, the lighting in this room is very dark.

Waze, Xavier:
This room has two rows of tall bookshelves that flank the imposing yet beautiful wooden desk that presides over this room. Over the door hangs a portrait of Grand Prince Stavian III, potrayed wearing an especially smug grin.

Sorry for the delay, guys! Just got home from that LARP & MIL birthday double whammy. c:

Sign-up sheet| #5-11: Library of the Lion

Xavier, I'm sorry to do this, but I don't think you would've heard her from your position 95 feet away from the door. Which, you know, in this case might be a boon. You may pursue the others as they open the doors, but it doesn't make sense for you to hear someone that's in a room approximately 100 feet away.

Tok:
Tok does see the keys - they're hanging from her waist. You're not quite sure just how difficult it would be to snag them, since they're likely a familiar weight to her, especially as her blindness must surely have made her other sense more sensitive...

Ilathor and Angry Magic Tree:
Perception (Ilathor) to search for clues: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (10) + 0 = 10

Angry Magic Tree finds something that could be useful... This looks like a collection of maps indicating the troop movements of the Shining Crusade. Slide 3!

Please give me Perception or Intelligence checks to put everything back as it was... Or continue searching, if it pleases you.

Time Remaining: 80/120

Sign-up sheet| #5-11: Library of the Lion

Tok is able to open the door without any incident. The room itself is small. It serves as simple quarters, sparsely decorated with only the most basic furniture and a stoic portrait of Grand Prince Stavian III.

Here, too, perhaps to his surprise, is a woman. Not a man, as the lion had implied, but an elderly woman with a crimson blindfold wrapped around her head.

Obviously surprised by the sudden entry, she stands from her seat and greets you. "Now, just who are you and why are you here?" she asks, her voice calm.

Apologies! I've got a LARP and a 50th birthday coming up, so my attention will be particularly deficient in the next few days. I'll endeavor to get one in every day (which isn't too far off from my recent pacing), but I just wanted to let everyone know. c:

Sign-up sheet| #5-11: Library of the Lion

Tok finds success! Five broad desks line the walls of this small room. Each work surface is covered with stacked volumes brimming with page markers as well as numerous open books. Given the organization of the content, it appears that each desk is hosting content for different its own topic... And given the studious notes and organization, much of this is well kept.

Sign-up sheet| #5-11: Library of the Lion

Alas, both doors are locked! Seeing as it's closest to that stairwell, it may be that there's extra security here. It seems you'll need to try another door first... Though to be fair, there are a lot of them. You might want to try the other two doors first!

Sign-up sheet| #5-11: Library of the Lion

Dotted! I've got company over tonight, so I can't do much else, but at least I'll be able to read through it later on. c;

Sign-up sheet| #5-11: Library of the Lion

The lion makes a gruff sound before nodding. "I could not say, but I imagine you will know it when you see it. Do be cautious."

The door opens easily with the key and reveals a second long, stone hallway. It ends in an ascending spiral to the north and doors line the hall on the east and west.

Is she going to be joining us for all three as well, then? c:

1 person marked this as a favorite.
Sign-up sheet| #5-11: Library of the Lion

I would say... you're looking at a spellcraft to learn more about the lion itself and as for a "suitable receptacle"... Well, that item needs to be safely capable of taking on whatever the lion's packing. Looking cool, of course, gets it bonus points.

Sign-up sheet| #5-11: Library of the Lion

After what seems like an impossibly long time, the lion finally makes a final disgusted sound before spitting the key out straight in front of it. "Ugh, always such an uncomfortable task," he grumbles. "But yes, this key is a loan, so make sure you bring it back to me."

Pausing, he adds, "And do remember to see if you can't find a suitable receptacle for me to leave with you."

Sign-up sheet| #5-11: Library of the Lion

The lion purrs before inquiring, "Was it not because Abadar is the Guardian of vaults?" He pauses. "Or was it only because the turning of the year?"

Regardless, he seems intrigued. The lion draws away from Angry Magic Tree's hands and... begins to retch.

Waze and Tok find that the organization of these texts is a bit strange. Still, a clue is a clue! Slide three! Search again or return to the others?
