Just as the bartender starts handing out drinks a drunk patron leans over to Highroost and begins to talk. ”I heard two small children saw one of the Pathfinders mutilating the body of the second victim. They barely escaped when the Pathfinder chased them.” he says in a drunken voice and slurred speech. Just then another patron leans over to Herald, ” When the Pathfinders were arrested, the accused halfling had blood all over his hands and clothes.” At the same time a sober patron chimes in, ”Otto, a farmer who lives just outside Dawnton, found the body of the first victim the morning the accused Pathfinders arrived. He’s still going about his business as though nothing had happened.” I believe that’s everyone’s check for this location. Where to next. It will be evening.

At the center of the tent city’s open area stands a broad beer garden with walls constructed of beer barrels and crates. This is the social hub for the country folk. It’s hard to find a place to stand and difficult to be heard over the noise. The tent is packed with town folk. Ill give everyone a chance to interact and then I will give some hints.

After examining the trash pile the group moves on. The temperature drops noticeably in this passageway, and a rime of white frost lines the walls and floor leading into the cavern beyond. What seems to be a light layer of brown dust carpets the cave floor beyond—a body of some sort sits slumped against the eastern wall. The passage from area A5 ends at a 10-foot-high ledge that drops down into this cavern—a successful DC 10 Climb check is needed to scramble down. DC 12 Knowledge (local):
The body slumped on the wall is a member of Khonnir’s team: a human rogue named Gerrol Sonder. His body is pale, but not frozen from the cold. You remember the popular rogue recently asked a weaponsmith’s daughter named Emelia Otterbie to marry him. Emelia would undoubtedly want to know of Gerrol’s fate. DC 12 Perception: If you succeed then you can try for the spoiler beow
You note strange ribbons and filaments of rust-colored fibers growing along his spine, throat, and chest. DC 16 Knowledge (dungeoneering):

You recognizes the “dust” on the floor of this cave for the hazard it truly is—a large patch of brown mold. Examine his body:
Gerrol’s body still wears a masterwork chain shirt, but he lost several of his other pieces of equipment in his frantic attempt to reach safety. He still carries a set of masterwork thieves’ tools, a masterwork hand crossbow with 5 bolts, several empty vials that once contained potions and antitoxin, and 75 gp. If you want to know more about the mold I can post in my next update. At some point you WANT to return his body. You decide when

Among the rubble and refuse here are several ruined bits of technological devices—nothing recognizable or even all that useful can be found here, but the presence of strange tangles of wires and unusually crafted fragments should confirm the hope that more ancient technology can be found deeper in the caves. Among the rubble you notice 7 small and shiny silver discs.

Perhaps I should brew some tea or perhaps something else to drink to ease the mood. I have a fresh supply of pesh if you’re interested?” “We all have our goals,” she continues. ”The elder Andares did not hire you to investigate, so what is a band of Pathfinders hoping to acquire here? Perhaps a compromise?”. Right before any of the group talk she yells, “JYRNAS AND MANDAS.”. Two medium sized humans wearing chain shirts walk in. They are carrying short swords and throwing axes at their sides.

He sometimes asks more questions about the accused than is considered seemly in these parts.” ”Ekira says that Iomedae began speaking to her directly after she arrived in Dawnton. She’s thinking about setting down roots here, establishing a church, maybe even challenging Sheriff Tobias Luin for the title of mayor.” ”On the night of the first murder, two of the murderers were seen dancing in a huge devil’s circle in the woods outside of town.” If you havent acted do so now.

”What I saw and heard!” Orug exclaims as excitement fills his face. Tessa rolls her eyes at his excitement. ”I witnessed the second murder. I was in my shop and heard a scream and a loud thump. I went outside and I saw a tall person run away into the dark. If it wasn’t for that thump on the head I would of intervened. I tried to attack the murderer, but some coward hit me on the back of the head.” his face still filled with excitement as he tells his tale. Maybe a bluff, diplomacy or intimidate will help. Perhaps a craft or profession skill to make him more friendly too.

The group moves on. A collection of crates, boxes, rubble, and scavenged metal lies heaped in the northwest section of this damp cave. Several strange chalk drawings of twisted, spiny plants, a strange three-legged creature, and emaciated four-armed humanoids mark the walls. Kno.Local DC20:
On the drawings you see strange creatures and realize that they could be an undiscovered race. Everyone give me a perception check.

Ok. It’ll be sleep first and then the general store and wherever you want after that. Investigating a location takes 1 part of the day. I didnt want to wait for everyone to get back to me so we are carrying on. After resting the group goes to the general store. One of two permanent businesses in town, this sprawling shop occupies three large storefronts on the main road. The center room is the general store, where you can purchase most mundane supplies below the village purchase limit. The east room holds stored goods, an office and a small apartment for Orug Foram and his wife Tessa Greenagh. The west building is Orug’s barbershop. It contains two chairs in the front and three rooms in the back for hot baths. It is the main hub for gossip. The half-orc standing before you smiles widely. ”Hello! I am Orug and this is my wife Tessa.” he points to the half-elf standing beside him. ”How can I help you.”

Each day is broken into three major phases (morning, afternoon, and evening) in which you can inspect or interact with a location or major NPC. Quick errands or meetings, such as you gathering to share notes, do not take a phase to complete. At the beginning of a phase, you can choose which locations to frequent. These locations each suggest several skill checks, ability checks, or saving throws that you might attempt to hear rumors, though you can only attempt one such check per phase. You can only learn one rumor at a location for each actively investigating PC each phase. At the end of the first phase each day, you can attempt a DC 15 Bluff, Disguise, or Stealth check. I will not tell you precisely what it’s for, but make sure to utilize it. Investigating a location takes an entire phase even if a check is unsuccessful.

Broad country roads lead in four directions away from a crossroad. To the north, the road to the Sauer Vineyard cuts among golden fields and lush vineyards. To the south, the road into Sauerton is flanked by sparse and apparently abandoned houses. To the west, the road to the Andares manor winds through a grove of apple trees whose leaves have begun to yellow. To the east, fields stretch among rolling hills as far as the eye can see, with long autumn wheat lolling in the wind. On the southeast corner, an empty shop sits boarded up with broken windows. On the southwest corner, a sign advertises Koriana’s Exotic Tonics and Remedies and boasts of “long- forgotten delights from all across the Inner Sea.” The group heads straight for the shop. This shop is spacious and lined with rack upon wooden rack of exotic herbs, spices, tonics, smoking paraphernalia, and a smattering of glass vials of brightly colored liquids. More such vials stand in display inside a glass-fronted countertop. Strange and smoky odors waft from a back room past a mostly closed door. Upon entering you are greeted by a middle-aged half- elf woman with platinum blonde hair, gray-green apothecary’s robes, and huge goggles. ”Welcome. I am Koriana Verdothia. The sheriff appears to be at ease as he talks. ”Here. I will lay out our evidence against them. “ the sheriff begins to tell you what he has. ” The murders began the night the Pathfinders came to town and ceased as soon as the Pathfinders were arrested. At the scene of the second murder, I found a dagger belonging to Dakota Spire, one of the dwarven Pathfinders. All three Pathfinders were seen at Otto’s farm just hours before someone found the first victim there. Ekira received an anonymous letter from a concerned but frightened citizen identifying the Pathfinders as the murderers. “ he gives you the letter to look at. DC 13 Linguistics or DC 18 Perception:

Ryder fires his crossbow at the creature, but misses terribly. Meanwhile, Kanek fires a shot that lands on the creatures side. Zendara and Daneran try to hit the creature, but it proves to be too agile for the both of them. Graz swings his chain at the frog like creature and instantly crushes its head. It flops dead to the ground. Anyone want to inspect the pool? If not we will move on-hopefully.
