The ones that won't see anything because Kirby is not being properly recognized in their eyes and that Lee & Marvel is the soulless sucking conglomerate? I know one guy that won't pay one cent for simply that reason because he complains (loudly, I may add) that Kirby's heirs aren't seeing a dime.
He was surprised that I mentioned that Kirby was mentioned in the credits at least twice. I told him that he should just see the film and if he's that concerned, just write a check and find out where to send it toward Kirby's estate.
He mentioned that he may wait until it comes out in the library to see it so he's satisfied that he didn't spend a dime on it. Then I followed up with a conversation about how it reminds me of Gygax and Arneson. "Who's Arneson?" he asks. "You play D&D, right?" "Yeah..." It was an exercise in irony, to say the least. :)
kirby fanatics have been around for a while and aren't going anywhere. I wish then luck in their struggle. I don't agree with them entirely, however I can see where they are coming from.

"Mrgh." $5 movie ticket for the 5:50 basic show makes the $8.75 for the pretzel bite combo a little easier.
Did your theater have the Joss Whedon brand of pretzel bites and popcorn? When did that come out? It was FAWESOME! I hope every theater has to have that all the time.

Ultrascreen hd for 11.50? That is a steal. I paid 12.50 for regular screen sherlock Holmes. Urizen wrote: Emperor7 wrote: Finally saw the Avengers last nite. Show was sold out. Man, that movie's raking it in.

Sure I will admit that it was, but, for the sake of example, popularity and longevity are not always good indicators of quality. I never saw the show while it was the air. I had never heard of it. The same goes for Arrested Development. I discovered them later and found them refreshing. Many fans would say the same. Fox is really bad when it comes to promoting things.
Either way we are all entitled to our own opinions - even you to your wrong one. as much as I hate whedon, I must agree that both shows would have been better off on cable. Firefly tried to do things that would not work on broadcast tv, as did arrested development, which I loved.

Sissyl wrote: Exalted actually plays up this situation in their setting. The Dragon-blooded are a warrior culture with very little tolerance for any form of perceived weakness, so any man acting in an effeminate manner will be sharply ostracized. This does not in any way carry over into a discrimination against homosexuality, and such relations are rather common. I saw elements of this in Exalted, but didn't women rule the dragon-blooded?

I LOVE that term!!!!

Sissyl wrote: I am sorry if people see my post as trying to derail anything. I was a bit uncertain when I posted it, as it was not my intention.
I should perhaps explain why this is.
I am a very biologically-minded person. I see the entire tapestry of human functioning on all levels as more or less entirely shaped by biological factors. There are cultural factors, of course, but these express themselves in accordance with our biology, not against it. Most of the things we call civilization, then, are expressions of our being pack animals. As much as some try to claim it, we are neither the lone hunter, red in tooth and claw and without regard for anything but our own gratification, nor drones that subsume their entirety into the collective - and we never have been.
From this view of humans comes the immediate consequence that since people can't change their own biology, any social mechanisms for non-personal censure such as witch hunts and claiming that some people are of lesser worth, these are all Wrong. I know this is not what people first think of when they consider biology, most seem to think about how a cure for this and that might be achieved. I see it rather as biological diversity being a strength and something beautiful.
I am still curious about how it works. =)
I think there is a very, very strong biological component. I believe there is some claptrap that a gene has been discovered, which brings up fears of genetic tampering on the part of homophobic parents to be who do not want a gay child paying tens of thousands of dollars to remove the gene.

I didn't miss Natalie Portman at all. Not that I don't enjoy Natalie Portman as an actress; on the contrary, I usually loveher. But 'eye candy' is really unnecessary in a good movie, and even so, Scarlett Johannson and Cobie Smulders both had well-developed and important characters who also capably filled any 'eye-candy' quotient needed for a comic book film. (For the ladies, of course, we have the Chris's. And Hulk runs around half-naked most of the time---that's hot, right ladies?) I asked myself, if Natalie Portman's character in this film, what would she have to do? And the answer is . . . "Not much."
I was wary of Whedon directing, myself. He is very hit-or-miss with me. But I enjoyed every moment of The Avengers, and that is despite being underwhelmed by both Iron Mans and absolutely loathing Thor.
It was a little long, but not too bad. Besides, you need the extra time when dealing with this many characters. I'd still give it an A-.
Hm. I didn't care for Thor much myself. I found it to be little more than beefcake.
