Davina and Flaurn, you hear the echoing sounds of Davina's knock beyond the door, but no one comes to the door of the warehouse. It occurs to you its late at night and the meeting time was after dusk. You best guess is that they were referring to either several hours ago or more than likely just after dusk later today as it is currently 3 bells after midnight.

Flaurn shrugged off the lack of response. It was late. Of course that meant no one was around to object to some prying either.

"Even at this hour it may be worth a look."

Flaurn steps to one side of the door but doesn't make any attempt to hide.

Looking around at everyone Rorrath says: "So, shall we go to the street from the note? I think we might be able to find something about why those thugs wanted Phon. I am always up for some excitement."

"I am agreed," Flaurn said. "The watch will see only a matter done with and look no further."

She leaned towards Ayaki with a smirk, "Did you say something about adventure? Let me see that note please."

"I would like to see it when you are done," Flaurn said.

"When you are ready, I'm sure we'll all be happy to see you safely home as well," Flaurn said.

Just a heads-up: I'm currently fighting to restore internet access at home and so might be spotty. Hopefully it's only a few hours but it's been days in the past.

Male Human (Prustan) Wizard (Diviner) 1

Not entirely sure how to handle the situation, Flaurn lets the others take the lead and simply follows along.

Kiren looks around at all the people who have suddenly appeared to help him and the girl. "Who are all of you? City Guards? And where are you taking that poor child?" He hurries along til he is beside the girl.

"Flaurn Ziegler, wizard and scholar," Flaurn introduced himself, making a small bow.

Male Human (Prustan) Wizard (Diviner) 1

Flaurn hurried over to the woman.

"Madame, are you unhurt?"

Male Human (Prustan) Wizard (Diviner) 1

Flaurn stands where he is and casts dancing lights, sending them down to illuminate the alley in hopes of seeing the thug way in back.

Okay so if Flaurn is wanting to move that distance you can only accomplish via a run in one round which will require a acrobatics check.

In that case he just takes a double move

Male Human (Prustan) Wizard (Diviner) 1

Flaurn went over to the mouth of the alley, taking care to keep out of reach of the thugs and to keep his wand between himself and them, and cast mage armor. Better safe than sorry.

He doesn't want to get closer than about 15 feet from the thugs, but is trying to get to where he could see down the alley better.

Flaurn, you are too far away standing in front of the Minstrel to shoot a thug with a ray as you must be no more than 30 ft away based on spell range. Any other action instead.

Magic missile and get as close as Flaurn can afterwards. 110 foot range. 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Sorry, I wasn't clear on what Flaurn could see. Does he have a clean shot (no risk of hitting the lady if he fires) at one of the thugs?

Also if he does, he'll shoot a ray of frost at a thug.

ray of frost: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12

Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23

Flaurn drew his wand when he saw there might be serious trouble, but held off magic until he was sure.

Male Human (Prustan) Wizard (Diviner) 1

Flaurn watched three people rush out of the Minstrel.

This must be how adventures started. Or at the worst, an amusing misunderstanding. Good enough, then.

Flaurn rose and followed the others.

Rorrath waves him off. "No worries".

Flaurn nodded politely and moved on into the Minstrel, trying to find a seat a bit away from the crowd. He had to connect with a delving group soon. His savings would not last forever.

Flaurn Ziegler pondered how once aelectrical lights would have chased back the darkness instead of crude lightning. The records were not clear on what those lights were like or why they didn't generate the frightful roar more recent attempts at aelectricity had come with. The chroniclers must have simply assumed any reader would know, which spoke to the great commonality of the fixtures. How, then, had they vanished so completely?

It did point to the notion that something about the world changed, but the idea of natural laws just arbitrarily changing made no sense. They could be changed, yes, but to just change themselves? But if they had been changed, who had done so and when? Surely something of that magnitude would have been a tremendous working. Something the Half-God might have done, but the Empire had aelectricity after his fall. So it could not be him. What else, then?

Something or someone hidden, of course. But now he was inventing instead of explaining. Absent evidence he should-

Flaurn jostled into Rorrath, entirely lost in thought, and pulled his staff back as he stepped away so he didn't accidentally strike the man.

"Forgive me, I was lost in thought and not paying sufficient attention to my surroundings."

edit:
As a newbie to this forum, how do I post as my alias?

When you hit the reply link (or any other link that gets you to the text entry box, I imagine) look down below the box. There should be a Post As popup menu right beneath it, level with the Preview, Cancel, and Submit Post buttons but in the lower left corner instead of the lower right. Click the menu and select the alias.

Flaurn Ziegler (human diviner) has been hanging around where Delvers gather, trying to hook up with a group for at least a few days now.
