Phinn wrote: Any comments on it? I like the name. It sounds catchy!
Toxim ir' Kinain wrote: I'll sit with Finn a while. He plans on sleeping, but if he can't sleep, I want to be there for him. It's ok if he does fall asleep. I'll just sit for a while. Finn falls asleep fairly quickly, seemingly exhausted. His sleep is troubled, however, and he tosses and turns, moaning incoherently.
Suddenly he cries out in his sleep and his hands fly to his face, sprouting cruel claws. Before Toxim can stop him, he tears at his flesh...
Finn looks terrible -- whether it's the oppressive heat, or the labour of dragging Urol's petrified form, or the drubbing he received at the hands of the elven mummy, his complexion looks even greyer than it has of late and he looks sweaty and ill.
"See that Urol gets carefully packed with the rest of the cargo. We don't want him to get chipped before we reach Farshore. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to string a hammock on deck and take a rest. I feel rather poorly all of a sudden." Once they reach the ship, Finn stumbles off to retire early.
Did it sound like Finn wanted him along? :-)
Seriously; he's a high-level spellcaster. If he wanted to leave, he could leave by himself.
Finn will wait for the others hiding in the bushes by the entrance to the temple (with Urol's petrified form). He has no interest in talking to the mockery of life.
Finn shrugs. "I'm with Daurros and Ardanto. Let's go. Daurros, you can discuss the matter of Urol's fare (and refund of some) with our employer."
He leaves, intending to pick up the statue of Urol on the way out.
Yeah, we're not talking to him at the moment. :-P
Well, we did get a little treasure from the gibbering mouther's well.
Finn looks startled. "We can't leave Urol here! He paid for passage to Farshore, and that's where he's going to go -- stone or flesh, it doesn't matter. A deal is a deal."
Finn looks at the necklace, and then glances up at the ceiling thoughtfully.
After a moment, he says grudgingly: "I suppose we could try to bargain for a cure to Urol's condition. Although one could make an argument that he's safer now as-is than when he's running around the ship without regard to his own personal safety..."
Finn, although badly burned, remains unrepentant: "If this mockery of life has no living descendants, then what need does he have for jewelry? We are well within our rights to take this necklace and go, as he is letting us do."
Finn grimly presses on, jabbing at the elf.
assuming that he's flanking...
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 1) + 6 = 10
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 6) + 6 = 14
Let's see how much damage that Flame Strike did, first...
If Ardanto manages to squeak by, is there any way we can seal the area behind him, trapping the elf? I don't suppose anyone memorized Stone Shape today, did they?
Reflex: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14, with evasion
add an action point: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Guys, we have to run away or die, I think.
If he's still conscious and/or alive, Finn will flurry with his spear.
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
2d6 + 5 ⇒ (3, 3) + 5 = 11
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27
2d6 + 5 ⇒ (4, 4) + 5 = 13
Finn tries to squeeze in behind the others and stabs at the undead spellcaster.
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
2d6 + 8 ⇒ (1, 6) + 8 = 15
possible critical? 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11
4d6 + 16 ⇒ (4, 4, 3, 5) + 16 = 32
Hm. The break DC is almost certainly too high, and Finn is too big to squeeze in behind everyone else.
What kind of material is the wall behind Ardanto? How thick is it?
Finn in desperation tries to break down the wall with brute strength.
Str check: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Keeper of Forbidden Lore wrote: You did get AoO's and 2 of ya hit But he succeeded on his concentration check, I take it?
Did the elf cast defensively, or did we get attacks of opportunity to disrupt him?
Two natural ones. I take my hat off to you, sir!
Will save: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10
Finn keeps stabbing away at the prostrate form. assuming he's not dead yet
use a ki point for an extra attack; I think this is his last one
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
2d6 + 7 ⇒ (4, 4) + 7 = 15
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
2d6 + 7 ⇒ (5, 5) + 7 = 17
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
2d6 + 7 ⇒ (6, 3) + 7 = 16
Ardanto, I think your attack bonus is actually +9, not +10 -- remember that bull's strength doesn't stack with your belt of strength
Giant-sized Finn stabs at the elf three more times.
use a ki point for an extra attack
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
2d6 + 7 ⇒ (2, 3) + 7 = 12
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
2d6 + 7 ⇒ (3, 4) + 7 = 14
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
2d6 + 7 ⇒ (2, 1) + 7 = 10
Finn steps back and peppers the elf mummy with a blizzard of jabs.
use a ki point for an extra attack
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
1d8 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
1d8 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
1d8 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Silt wrote: What are your guys thoughts on the serpent strike feat from the Eberron Campaign Setting (ability to use the long spear as a monk weapon)? Is it worthwhile? Being able to flurry at 10 foot reach seems pretty nice. I have a monk that uses it and I quite like it. Of course, you can't use Stunning Fist through it unless you fork out for Ki Focus or take a feat like Cornugon Stun.
The one tricky part is that you can't qualify for the feat very quickly. It requires Weapon Focus which is not possible for a level 1 monk to take. So you might be stuck taking Serpent Strike at level 5.
Will save: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16
Finn rushes forward and stabs at the living dead elf.
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14
1d8 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
action point on attack: 1d6 ⇒ 6
Elvish:
To the others, in Common:
"I'm pointing out that dead people don't have the right to own property, and unless he can identify a proper heir he can go get stuffed."
good thing Finn turned off the mercifulness of his spear...despite the GM's "no undead" comment
Will save: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29, +4 vs. enchantment
Finn thrusts his chin out defiantly at the dead elf's attempt to intimidate them.
In Elvish:
Finn will follow, also checking for traps.
Take 10 on Perception => 30
"Seems safe enough to me. Daurros, go ahead and pick it up. We'll all step back a few paces."
"Whatever you say....mother."
Finn stops before actually touching the necklace.
"Well, it can't hurt to double-check."
He carefully searches for any booby traps.
Take 20 on Perception for a total of 40.
"Whoever he was, he has some kind of magical necklace. I guess he won't be needing it now," Finn comments as he reaches in to grab it.
"I think it's a mummified elf. It has something around its neck, though."
Finn tries to detect any magical auras within the pyramid-coffin.
<cough, hack, cough>
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
Finn helps with the pyramid lid (which he also noticed).
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
"Unggh...this is heavier than it looks!"
Toxim ir' Kinain wrote: I am so very jealous of your perception. I have a half elf in another game like that. I wonder if the other players feel about me like I feel about you? Oh well, they can suck it. I wonder if you feel about me like I feel about them? Yes. You are welcome to "suck it". :-) On the other hand, you're also welcome to buy a set of Eyes of the Eagle; they're fairly cheap and effective.
Finn makes a careful search as well.
1d20 + 20 ⇒ (2) + 20 = 22
Not trusting the other two (after being lightly roasted), Finn makes his OWN search for traps!
1d20 + 20 ⇒ (17) + 20 = 37
If that doesn't find a trap, nothing will...
Finn also searches for any tricks or traps, and he also scans for magical auras with Detect Magic.
Perception: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (7) + 20 = 27
Ooh! It's just like a video game. Are there any platforms to jump on?
Finn follows Toxim uncertainly. "You're a magician -- do you think there's a way to turn off the flaming wall? Splitting up seems like a bad idea..."
Finn turns off the mercifulness of his longspear, on the off chance that the living dead decide to attack...
"Well, I wanted to take a look at what's on the stone table."
"We just have to be careful and watch where we step."
Finn begins to move down the stairs, checking for dangers every step of the way.
Does anyone need healing?
Finn rolls his eyes at Ardanto's juvenile antics.
"He just likes to be the center of attention. 'Hey, look at me! I'm down in a well!' Honestly... But he's a good man to have at your side in a fight, I can tell you that."
Dibs on the 105 cp!!!
Finn peers into the pile of bones. "Hold a sec -- there could be treasure down there."
Perception: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (20) + 20 = 40
"Ardanto, are you all right down there? Do you see anything of interest? Aside for a dead monster, of course."
Finn peers into the well, sending some magical dancing torches down there for light.
If the well is up to 10' deep, Finn will move over and try to stab the monster.
If the well is up to 20' deep, Finn will cast Enlarge Person.
If the well is over 20' deep, Finn will take five and light up a smoke.
