I'd love to see a lupin or two become referenced. If for no other reason than their inclusion in the old Savage Coast of the Known World (i.e. Mystara)

I do rather like the way IK does guns and grenades for the most part. I also like their Gun Mage class as well as the Junker and Arcane Mechanic. There was a Dragon mag article in issue #321 (August 2004)pages 31-38, probably one the best one in the magazine IMHO. The pic on the Player's Guide is actually a reprint of the cover of Dragon #273 which had tons of material for swashbuckling campaigns that is what we be considered fluff but it is good fluff, the kind of fluff that makes for good campaign. If you have the means of picking it up, you would be doing yourself a favor. The first article gives some crunch in both 2nd Ed and 3rd Ed (the issue came out the month before 3rd Ed came out and Dragon switched formats) as well as recommended reading and viewing. The other two articles are ideas and suggestions. And if anyone reading this is an Alternity and especially a Star Drive fan, this same issue has the last weapons dump for that setting.

I subscribe to both magazines and was slightly disappointed that the Tortles were left out of the Dragon Compendium. Although Lupin made it in and I prefer playing lupin anywho.

I need to look over FC1 again, mainly as I'm thinking of switching off on the demon lord behind all this. But then again a part of might actually be prejudiced in favor of Dagon over Demogorgon.

And here I am thinking of cross referencing Fiendish Codex 1 with what is know about the planes in Eberron. Not only that but maybe making a switch of demons. Ditching Demogorgon in favor of Dagon.

And here I am waiting for them to publish the conversion notes so I can set this puppy in Eberron if I wanted to.

Tortles actually returned about year or less before the Lupin in Dragon Magazine. It was in one of their much ballyhooed January issues of rehash and specifically on Mystara. Spot Check: How close are the new Catfolk to Rakasta?

Having part of Savage Tide play out on the Savage Coast might be nice. But I hope the hole Red Steel/Red Curse/Legacy bit can be toned down a bit. Personally I thought the whole cinnabryl turning into red steel bit to be interesting but the legacies were too much munchkinism for my tastes. But I bought the Red Steel boxed set for the rules on making Lupin, Rakasta and Tortle pcs more than anything else. Especially the Lupin. The fact that they got unlimited advancement in the Ranger class made me happy back then. Now in 3.5 their favored class is Ranger. Now if only there was a way to alter that prejudice against werewolves or delete it in favor of getting another feat...

I can't wait for Savage Tide to get started. I bought the Player Guide it's been shipped to me today. As Mystara, the best thing I like about it is the fact in amy Mystaran game that is begun will have room for my own favorite race: Lupin

My absolute preferred race is Lupin, but I am a furry as well as a gamer. Beyond that I play wood elves and half-elves more often than not.

Would the AP work just as well if set in Xen'Drik?

I think one of the areas you may be thinking of is Maztica which was based heavily if not entirely on the Aztecs and Mayans. There was a 3rd party book dealing with African adventures for 3rd Ed play called Nyambe I believe. Beyond this there was a whole series of articles in Dragon that dealt with RP in an African type setting. Much of this could be adapted and some of the illustrations could be snapped up for avatars if Paizo can get the rights to them. That and try to borrow as much as possible from OA for Asians. Besides that weren't there some illustration of ethnic folk done for the various issues of Polyhedron that you can sneak in for avatars?

With a little creative tweaking, Airships can be used to create new SpellJammer ships or modify existing ones. I'm an old fan of the SJ setting and I found the book to be just what I needed as a base for updating the setting to 3E rules

As one of the SJ fans who felt a bit slighted at the Polyhedron fiasco I must say this is a better treatment of the setting than it has gotten. As far as I can tell the Giff were very accurate in their portrayal and this was one of the races I was concerned about as this was the one race that kept me interested in the setting as a whole. While I play lupin and similar races mostly, I still wanted the option of having them around to meet and interact with. Heck the one story I am writing features a Giff paladin and the pic used is about how I pictured the character to look like in my own story. Insectare are nothing I paid much attention to. Scro are dead on. Excellant article and the new monsters are a bonus section of new toys to play with.

There was an article in 2nd Ed. Dragon I would like to see revamped for 3.5. I forget the name of it but it was all about throwing weapons. There was the Hurlbat, basically the blade of a halberd on a really short handle that was made for chucking at people. Larger versions of the sling, the Funda I believe was one of them. Mentions of weapons carried onto the battle field by the Romans. Failing this would someone please email details of this issue like what number it was and what was on the cover so I can effectively look for it?

In the class acts section of Dragon 336 there was a version of the ranger class I rather liked in the Mystic Ranger. I have a question and a suggestion related to this variation. First the suggestion which in some ways is a question in and of itself. I had this weird and wacky idea of making a psionic ranger with varying degrees of success. My idea for a Psycho Ranger starts with the mystic variation. Instead of spells he receives powers, using the same table and power point progression as the psychic warrior.

The second point is a pure question of what spells from the just released Spell Compendium would be appropriate to possibly add to the 0 level and 5th level lists of spells? One spell in particular I think should make the Mystic Ranger's Level 5 spell list is Wind Tunnel as it affect archery.

Personally I'm hoping at least one or two of the old SJ articles gets updated and put in here. SpellJammer is my all time favorite setting. The first and last time off line I have ever been able to play a lupin ranger.

I'd like something like the Hexblade in Complete Warrior but more geared towards good aligned characters.

if space is the issue, make a small monthly or even bi monthly magazine for D20 Modern. I like the name Metropolis but I don't think Warner Brothers would allow it. Anyone see a problem with calling it Frequency or Transmission(s) or something along that nature?

Think about my choice for a name and the current icon I have up now. Just because I have the furry race I prefer to play does not mean I can sit back and let other races go by the wayside. I have an article already about integrating furries into a general campaign that show cases several new races. If you rally wanted to get some of the furry maniacs a bone, consider this a preview of the article I have to offer. I am now going to present the names of the races and for those that wish to know what animal type they represent and you can judge for yourself if you would like to look this article over which has the premise of these races once being lycnathropes (Medieval once fretted over all sorts of beasties being able to take human form, like the dreaded werepig, werewolves just got top billing):

Ursyn (Bear)
Reynard (Fox)
Vern (Wolverine/Badger)
Kuna (Raccoon)
Lop (Rabbit)(and or those who think this will be a clone of a certain well known WB character I did my best to stay away but some things ultimately cannot be helped although the size will surprise you)
Mynx(Weasels and related Mustelids)
Tatu (armadillo)
Yawarri (opossum)
Puzzola (skunks)
Kazbah (camel)

Now as for the zebras, sounds like people are forgetting the Equiceph of the Miniatures Handbook. BTW I have a monster class for the Equiceph if you're interested.

Admittedly I have not had too much trouble with the game. I was raised Roman Catholic in Philadelphia, PA and my parents initially would not get me any of the D&D books I wanted probably for the same reasons. They would get me the novels but not the game books. Eventually I purchased the 2nd Edition games for myself and began playing with various groups. It's only then that I started to get some support as I was getting into my creative habit. The books and issues of Dragon inspire my writing more and more but while the game did not cause it, or at least I don't think it did. I eventually heard Wolf's call and turned to Neo-Paganism/Wicca. The only possible connection is through the classes I like to play in Rangers and Druids. Although there is also a big wooded park in my area that I like to walk through every now and again which actually maybe the source of both. The park is almost a small wooded area in the big city situated around Pennypack Creek. Within is a small population of deer and I have seen a red tailed hawk once or twice. Plus the fact that I started having problems with bits of Church doctrine and some of the messages I was hearing in chuch. Did D&D make me Pagan? I'd like to think not, I'm sure my father who goes to church daily will probably postulate this when I come out of the broom closet so to speak but like I said earlier, I heard a calling and I answered the call like my Catholic training said I should. It was just that my calling was to the Ancient ways of Wicca and not to become a Catholic Priest.

I have been buying everything for the D20 Modern line since its inception. I was buying Dungeon specifically for the D20 Modern tidbits. Way back when Dragon was still an in house magazine under TSR there were articles that supported Alternity, their last best hope to produce quality Sci-Fi gaming (personally I thought they succeeded but what do I know?, about once every other month. I would enjoy those articles immensely. Would it hurt Paizo to do the same?

if the supplement for this adventure path does not appear on the web before the end of the week, I'm going to go through everything stat by stat and convert them myself. Greyhawk is tired, old and worn out. I will be running this in
Eberron.

I'd like to know when this supplement is going to be on the web page as well. For no other reason than I want to run Age of Worms in Eberron

Let's see, as far as I can tell the Winning Races series has featured the following:
2 fully anthro races in the Grippli and the Lupin
1 semi anthro race in the Saurian Shifters
3 non anthro races in the Diaboli, the Cyclopi and the Half-Elementals (this last piece of trash I mention for completeness sake and no other reason)
The Umbragen are not a Winning Races article. I would consider that to be an Eberron article as well as an ad for the upcoming game.

Now I ask you based on the evidence above are we not due for another anthro oriented article in the Winning Races line?

I have this idea running through my head that needs to be addressed. However in order to do this I need to go into the archives and retrieve a 2nd Ed. Dragon article on tiny dragons or dragonets. None of them were larger than a pseudodragon I believe and they were, if memory serves me correctly, offered as possible companions for PCs. One of these springs to mind most clearly and that is an oceanic dragonet that was suitable for the companion of an oceanic ranger or druid, sort of the draconic version of a sea gull. I want this article so I can convert the dragonets to 3.5. Any help locating this issue would be appreciated.

We'll bring back Winning Races when we get submissions that offer something other than simply more animal heads. Until then... we wait.

And by doing so perpetrate a great disservice to your readership. More than likely you are not even willing to look and see if the race might add something to a given campaign world. I will look again at your writer guidelines and see what I can to make my article more palatable but that will not mean abandoning anthro races. If anything I am of the opinion we need more anthro races in the game. Shifters are nice but they don't do the job as well as the lupin or the tortles. Catfolk are almost an acceptable replacement for the Rakasta. What do you expect any and all us D&D players who also happen to like anthro characters to do? Sit on our hands and wait for something you're never going to do? I want to see the Giff return. You may think it goofy but not everyone does. One of the greatest adventures I ever played in 2nd Ed. was a SpellJammer campaign in which I played a lupin ranger and someone else played a lizardman fighter. There are those that like playing humanoid animals. Give us that oppurtunity, we are the one that buy the games and the magazines along with every one else.

I don't have the issue at hand but it had Strahd Von Zarovich on the cover. The whole issue was about looking back at older settings. Mystara, Red Steel, Ravenloft, Al-Qadim, Dark Sun among others, Spelljammer was mercifully spared further degredation. Moron, I still remember the travesty you purpetrated on my favorite setting. Giff ME a break, someone fire his butt!

Not just FR but Eberron as well as I don't care too much for FR right now.

My thoughts on Mage Knight have more to do with the Wiz Kids game adapting them for regular D&D play.

Interesting approaches, lemme see what I can think of off the top of my head:

Barbarian: Illiterate Enforcer
Bard: Herald-Courier
Cleric: Field Medic
Druid: Hermit
Fighter: Man at Arms
Paladin: King's Champion
Monk: Pugilistic Gladiator
Ranger: Royal Hunsman
Rogue: Secret Police
Sorcerror: Court Entertainer
Wizard: Tinker

Downer is pretty good. He's actually one of the highlights of most Dungeon issues I read.

Hmmm, how about a light stealth tank? Idea I have for a ranger using the alternative combat styles in dragon. Wood Elf Ranger with the Strong Arm style, and give him a greataxe or a greatclub. Sneak up behind some poor sinner, power attack to drop him, hide the body, repeat first action in the sequence, add nauseum.

if you don't mind going outside of Wizards for your material, you might want to check out Relics and Rituals: Olympus by Sword and Sorcery Studios. But I do agree we need some more historical articles. Greco/Roman, the classical scene, Egyptian, Norse, Celtic, Teutonic. There were a few articles but not a lot. This upcoming issue seems promising though.

Well, I wouldn't mind more druid oriented material for no other reason than most druid stuff easily works for rangers as well. Maybe we could do an artivle looking at druids and rangers that hail from environments other than the usual. Tie parts of it in with certain other books that Wizards is doing. Although if you do it that way wait till like September or even December and feature Frostburn, Sandstorm and Maelstrom in the mix.

Certainly could be feasible. I mean there was material made for Lankhmar in 2nd Edition. Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser are just as good today as models for adventure as they were back then.

The saurian shifter was...interesting to say the least. What about some older "Winning Races"? Grippli I can easily see in Xen'drik or Q'Barra. Tortles might exist peacefully virtually anywhere. Lupin I can readily see in the Eldeen Reaches. Although I have something in the works to fit lupin and other furry races in Eberron and other settings.

Yeah, part of me is thinking we might need another magazine just for D20 Modern. Polyhedron had some good ideas for the series but it seems that the Modern game is the red headed stepchild of the settings. Alternity saw more love from TSR than Wizards seems to give to it Modern game.

Something I'd like to see in the pages of Dragon would be an article every now and again relating to D20 Modern and its related titles. Many, many, years ago Dragon would feature an article for Alternity every now and again. I'd like to see something similiar for D20 Modern and its satellite books. Especially if you can cram in some of those web extras that I can't get to open up for some odd reason. Case in point: VR and new aliens for D20 Future. It miffs me no end that I can't get access to these as I rather liked D20 Future and will prolly ge D20 Past when it comes out.
