Fenris was born into a clan of true lycanthropes whose territory spans a great swath of the inhospitable Iron Forest in Verbrek. Only the hardiest beasts and plants survive there.
As he was growing up, Fenris often heard the clan elders say that he has been marked by the great Wolf God for some great destiny. They point to the great eclipse that occurred during his birth. Some detractors, however, say that he will herald a great tragedy upon the clan.
Years later, the clan was attacked by barbarians surging out of the North. Thinking that they were attacking simple folk, the barbarians abused the forbearance of the clan, forcing the clan to gut them. The slaughter that followed was beyond imagining. Fenris who saw the weakness of mankind urged his fellow clansmen to rescind their self-imposed exile in the Iron Hills and go forth to conquer the nearby countries. The great and venerable Ivar, leader of the clan, forebade it, yet Fenris persisted in his challenge sensing that there is a substantial portion of the clan who wished to return to the wide world and revel in their might.
Though young, Fenris demanded trial by combat. Ivar, sensing that he must assert his supremacy, accepted.
The duel was fierce and brutal. But wisdom and experience won out against youth, Ivar pinning Fenris to the ground until he submitted. But the cold fury inside Fenris’ heart drove him to defy convention and he attacked Ivar while his back was turned. Plunging his massive claws into Ivar’s neck until his head was severed from his body, Fenris raised Ivar’s head to what he hoped was a jubilant crowd. But the silence that met him made his blood run cold. The rejection that he faced was chilling.
Clansmen who had moments ago supported his cause now bound his arms in iron; while a priest of the Wolf God plunged deep into his right hand a red hot seal marking him. “You are hereby banished from this clan. Do not attempt to return. Kinslayer.”
With that, Fenris was cast out of the clan.
With anger and fury consuming his heart, Fenris made his way into the world, leaving a bloody trail of murder and mayhem. Fenris was caught by paladins of the Order of Light years later. Consulting auguries, the priests determined that Fenris’ execution would only bring more woe into the world of men. Hence, it was decided that Fenris shall be exiled to the Island where hopefully no longer trouble the world of men. Or so they think….
