As the storm of butterflies race past (and into) the pair, the few that make contact with Fei also briefly erupt into tiny pyrotechnics....but then disappear almost as quickly, seemingly absorbed into the young monk's body.

Looking around at the colorful but seemingly harmless display (and Vai's reaction to it), he replies "If the security protocols in the SIM room recognize my presence, perhaps I can..."

Perhaps a bit to her surprise, Fei seems to actually be considering it.

Vai can't help but smirk a tiny bit at that. "Lectures are a Sunwake specialty I'll have you know. Somewhat out of necessesity, since we are a stubborn family. I'm sure you'll be inured to them soon enough don't worry."

As their hands sit gently touching, Vai's wings ever-so-slightly and slowly begin to unfurl and flare outward, a subtle sign of tension. Vai does not move to break the contact, at least not yet.

"It's an obstacle course of some sort. From what I understand the SIM rooms will dynamically adjust the course's difficulty based on the participant's PE performance and other metrics. So really we're going to be competing against ourselves, which makes me wanna win even more!" she seems in a pretty good mood, smiling up at Fei.

The young monk nods in understanding, his hand staying as steady as possible to not cause undue stress in Vai before her turn in the event.

"Well, that would explain the presence of both age groups here together, then," he says, sparing a look about the SIM Room and assessing the other various competitors. "An ingenious way to accommodate everyone wanting to participate." (^-^)

Fei gingerly rests his open palm under her hand (so she can withdraw it easily when she needs to).

"So.....do you know what this competition today is?"

Image Male Human (Paragon) Gestalt Monk 14 / Fighter (Unarmed) 7 / Elemental Fist 5 / Enlightened Scholar 2 / [CLASSIFIED] 6 (^-^); Champion of Courage

The young monk slowly shakes his head.

"I think for now....it is enough that I have given voice to the thought. If we are 'taking it easy' for a time, that would not fall under this category. And I would receive another quite long lecture from at least one of your family members." (=^-^=)

"Let us focus on the simple joy of sport for now." (^-^)

"I am just as much at fault for not being 'present'," he admits with a centering breath. "And I cannot place all of that blame at the feet of either of our Patrons for that."

"We can...help each other be more mindful of the 'now', especially after recent events. Perhaps if we do that, we can find our balance again...?"

"Good Morning." (^-^)

"I....was being obstinate. A truth which your father just spent the last hour pointing out to me, in quite colorful metaphor," Fei replies, his smile shifting to a more self-deprecating one.

"So I will be doing my best to dwell a bit more....outside of my own mind today. And an event like this would be a good place to do so - especially if I can be present to cheer my girlfriend on to well-earned victory," he continues, simple pride in her plainly evident in his voice.

The doors to the SIM room open yet again, as Fei quietly enters the chamber. Garbed in his traditional dawn-themed Lathanderan gi, the only indication that he is not just a guest of the academy is the green 'badge' on the left side of his chest bearing the Avalon crest.

The young monk politely steps out of the threshold to not block any other entrants to the SIM room, then makes his way to the spectator seating. Coming around the corner of the stands, he sees Vai pacing the floor in anticipation for the upcoming events. As he realizes her change in garb, and her body language indicating that it was by choice rather than reaction, the first smile in days - like the sun breaking through storm clouds - comes unbidden to his oft-troubled visage.

"Each day is made of many, many dawns - you need only be mindful enough to experience them." As the words of his old master come to him from what feels like a lifetime ago, Fei's smile broadens a bit more, the troubled Champion thankful for the timely wisdom that memory can give.

"This....is good," he quietly affirms. (^-^)

Fei bows apologetically to Jaiye for his assumptive words, but is inwardly relieved that she appears to have won past her shock and grief for the moment.

The young monk politely steps to the side for this new conversation.

The young monk concentrates for a moment, verifying that all of the people he had to restrain earlier in the day had been taken into custody
so and were no further threat. He then looks to Jaiye and nods solemnly before turning back to the High Seer.

"We will."

::It is not a kindness to make promises you aren't sure you can keep, young Fei.:: is the High Seer's only reply for a long moment as she continues to observe the map and the flurry of motion and activity in the tent remains at a steady pace.

Suddenly the elves around the table begin speaking aloud at once, discussing what remains to do in the wake of the disastrous festival. The High Seer turns briskly to Fei and Jaiye and her eyes briefly flash white. The trio are carried away by the winds of magic.

A room elsewhere in Laeren comes into view, the wooden walls and architecture is unmistakable. All pretense in gone from the High Seer now as tears begin to flood her eyes. She looks as though all the weight of her long years has just come crashing onto her head. She sits gently on an uncomfortable looking chair and motions for Fei and Jaiye to sit as well, though their seats look more plush.

"I would hear more details. Is Agartha safe?" she manages through a constricted throat.

Sense Motive Check:
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 32 ⇒ (20) + 32 = 52....(o_O)

This would be a most inappropriate time to admonish Fei on how well-versed he appears to be regarding the High Seer's...body language. Nothing to see here - please move along... (=^-^=)

The young monk is unable to reply until their location has changed and the High Seer has seated herself, being taken as we was with her near-perfection in maintaining her composure until arriving at this room.

It is, however, just enough time to reflect on the sheer arrogance of his claim, as well as how that would give no comfort to a woman as wise as this who just lost her son.

"I...apologize, High Seer. I...spoke from anger at failing you, and you are right to condemn such behavior..."

He pauses (longer than he normally does with his usually methodical speaking), as his neural lace kindly reminds him that there were still nanites at the Chancellor's lair, where Ephebe and
Casilkasheyith were still speaking. Those nanites were still recording information...which he quickly plays back.

"...But I may still be able to honor that promise in some way. Casilkasheyith may be able to shed light on the Chancellor's motives due to...certain actions he took, and I now know of a larger threat as well..."

Fei then sums up, as briefly as he can, the essential details of the conversation between the other two Champions regarding the literal universal threat being discussed.

Please be kind....:
1d20 + 32 ⇒ (7) + 32 = 39...whew

Reading the cue from the silent but focused elves in the pavilion, Fei drops his neural lace's mental shielding just in time to hear the High Seer's mental directive. The young monk looks over to Jaiye, then bows his head and closes his eyes.

::The Chancellor....had already ended Ehos' life by the time we got to his location, though we did not yet know it. Tyrrin survived and saved Laeren from destruction, but was seriously wounded in the process. I had Ghalen take her to Avalon to treat her injuries. She will...recover from them.::

He takes a steadying breath, his normal decorum failing him as his shoulders slump with the motion.

::I...am sorry, High Seer. We could not get to them both in time::

His eyes open, brow furrowing.

::The Chancellor wanted to bring down this world's defensive wards. I...do not yet know the whole purpose of his plan,:: the young monk continues, regaining his composure as he raises his gaze to meet the High Seer's (if she is facing them)...

::But I will.::

Remembering just a few seconds too late that their appearances might be...somewhat disturbing, Fei quickly commands his nanites to return both his current garb and Jaiye's to their 'pre-attack' forms while they wait to be escorted to the High Seer.

This process also cleanses them of any blood, vomit and other materials inappropriate to wear when meeting a head of state. (=^_^=)

The young monk nods, grabbing the unconscious succubus as he stands up. Fei hoists her over his shoulder as more nanites bind her wrists and ankles for easier transport.

"I...am ready when you are," he says after taking a centering breath.

The conversation is briefly interrupted by an unceremonious 'thud' as Fei steps over to the succubus with purpose and knocks her out cold before she can even think of fleeing or causing further trouble after Jaiye unshackles her. Sparing a few more nanites to help keep the demon unconscious, he turns briefly back to Ephebe.

"While I have questions I would like answered, now is not the time for this discussion."

He kneels down next to Jaiye, facing her. The young monk knows he cannot just exclude her from what must come next, but it pains him to have to ask it of her nonetheless.

"I will go to the High Seer and...tell her what has happened. Do you wish to come with me, or return to Avalon and be with Tyrrin?"

Being in Avalon's Infirmary has inured the young monk to most violent biological...events, so he appears unfazed by her bout of sickness.

"It is alright, Tyrrin - you are back with us," he says with a reassuring smile as he stands up, keeping her cradled in his arms in such a way as as not to be soiled with her own vomit.

"But Casilkasheyith is correct - you need to go to Avalon's Infirmary immediately. You still have radiation poisoning that I cannot treat here. Ghalen is taking you there now."

Fei patches into Ghalen's communicator as he carefully hands Tyrrin over to him. He uses his neural lace to transmit so only he can hear:

Ghalen:
"Use your relay token without delay. She needs to be in the Infirmary now...both for her survival, and before she asks about Ehos. I....will inform the High Seer."

Image Male Human (Paragon) Gestalt Monk 14 / Fighter (Unarmed) 7 / Elemental Fist 5 / Enlightened Scholar 2 / [CLASSIFIED] 6 (^-^); Champion of Courage

The young monk, both relieved and crestfallen at what just transpired, gathers back the nanoswarm he brought into the chamber with him as he strides forward and kneels beside Tyrrin, quickly determining how gravely injured she still is.

Quickly but carefully placing an arm around her shoulders, he pulls her closer to him as he pours as much healing energy into her wounded body as she can safely take. As he does so, the nanites around him close in to cover Tyrrin's form to bolster his efforts (and preserve her modesty). Fei's own nanosuit starts to change color as his eyes glow with silver-white light.

120 points of healing, granting Tyrrin temporary extra HP (thanks to the nanites' interaction), if this takes her above her normal maximum.

Fei's senses are momentarily distracted by the newly-revealed presence of another Champion, but his contemplation of this is ended by Tyrrin's words...

The helm of his nanosuit retracts, while the nanites still on the Chancellor's body reconfigure to form a 'shroud' of sorts to cover the remains.

"Please do what she says," he finally states to Casilkasheyith, then looks back to Jaiye and Ghalen and the remants of the Chancellor's followers. "Then this room should be cleared, just to be safe."

The defiled corpse collapses to the floor, the wet 'thud' of its impact masked ironically by Ehos' melodic singing.

The young monk gets ready to deal with the remaining guards, in case they mean to muster some final retaliation to their martyred leader's demise.

Seeing one of the guards holding Tyrrin fall to the floor, Fei presumes that both Casilkasheyith and Ghalen are now in the chamber.

With Jaiye waiting on him to win through the barrier, the young monk unclenches the fist he slammed against the magical wall. Splaying his hand out, he absorbs its remaining energies to take it down.

Apologies for posting out of turn. I know this will technically occur after Ghalen finishes his actions, but I will be on the road for the weekend and do not wish to cause delays by my absence. (^-^)

Fei instructs the host of nanites on the Chancellor robes to act. The ones still in his ears fire back up their auditory assault (MUCH louder than before, to prevent him from any meaningful action), while the rest under his robes swarm up and encase his body, attempting to lock him in place (and to the floor so he cannot be moved).

The young monk then strides forward to the barrier, leaving Jaiye and the succubus in their hiding spot. As he takes his final step, his shoulder snaps back and he throws a dramatic punch (for him, at least) into the wall of force to draw the attention of the others.

Fei stops about ten feet before they come into direct view of the chamber, silently motioning for Jaiye to stop a few steps before he does. Hoping that Ghalen saw his signal, Fei proceeds into the hallway. Some of his nanites from the threshold race ahead of him along the ceiling and walls, slightly enhancing the corridor's polished look by lightly scouring their surfaces for replication material.

When they arrive at Casilkasheyith's location, they form a ring around the edge of the forcefield (without touching it), quickly trying to ascertain if it just covers the opening, or is a sphere that surrounds the entire chamber.

Going forward, the nanites on the succubus will read Jaiye's movements and use some of their excess energy to compensate for the demon's mass, making it approximately 50% easier for Jaiye to maneuver and fight with her attached prisoner.

The other half quietly precedes him to the doors of the central building in order to comporomise their hinges. As he walks toward the building, he sends a transmission to his two allies outside the walls.

"The western wall will be compromised momentarily - the compound is all but deserted, except for some soldiers I am about to engage inside a central building. Be ready for a trap."

Stopping at the doors, the young monk then quickly senses for the Chancellor and the Denulia siblings again to better lock in their locations based on his now-closer position. With that information in-hand, he knocks on the doors to the building.

Thanks to the nanites' work, the result should be that the doors fall off their (now consumed) hinges with a thud, hopefully to the surprise of the soldiers within.

As the lines of energy along his nanosuit begin to glow more brightly, he addresses the assembled troops in elvish, quickly and succinctly.

With a silent prayer to the Morninglord, Fei calls the rest of the unused nanoswarm back to him, then invokes his Champion abilities and teleports to a position just inside the eastern perimeter of the compound.

Once there, he disperses the swarm again to feed information to him and potentially provide further distraction to the defenders (presuming that the tree Ghalen is currently terrorizing is the same one he is now under, of course). (^-^)

"It doesn't take magical powers to see that you have your distraction already," she said dryly, spotting the red dragon flying above the trees. "And don't worry about structural damage. Houses can be repaired. Children are not so easily replaced," she said, firmly. "Just rescue them."

"Yes, High Seer - if you discover a back way into this place, let us know as soon as you can."

"Jaiye, Casilkasheyith - I am sending the building location to your datapad now. Contact Ghalen telepathically and have him meet you there without compromising your position."

"I am about to draw their attention to the east wall of the compound - get there as quickly as you can and try to enter unobserved from the west or rear while I keep them occupied."

Ghalen looks to the north, and decides to take flight. As he takes his dragon form, his rage becomes manifest as the air shimmers around him from the heat his form now radiates. With a powerful downbeat of his wings, he leaps into the sky, gaining a better vantage point from the air. Again looking north, he looks for any large buildings someone of the Councilor's status would occupy, then begins a slow, wide circling of the city.

While Fei waits for the High Seer to answer, he notes that the comm channel to Ghalen goes dead.

Before he can say anything, though, he spies the winged draconic form ascending from the wooded edge of the city. Deducing that the two events are not coincidental, the young monk takes some solace in the fact that his partner is alright, if more than a bit.... conspicuous now.

"I am working on that now. What we are approaching is the Chancellor's residence, and he has fortified both it and the surrounding neighborhood into a compound that may be difficult to enter. Standby."

"It is where his residence is located," she said, concerned. "I believe that he has formed a sort of compound there by having the surrounding dwellings occupied by his followers and allies."

Fei brings the High Seer over to the channel with the others so they can all communicate at the same time.

"High Seer - I have the others on this channel with us. Do you have any ability to 'See' a discreet way into the Chancellor's residence to avoid the bulk of his forces?"

"If not, I can arrange for a....distraction to allow the others to enter without notice. There may be....structural damage as a result, however, so I would ask for your consent before doing so."

Once all three have responded, Fei updates them with what he has discovered.

"The siblings are also on the north end of the city - nearby to the Chancellor, but not in immediate proximity. I do not think they are in good condition, but I cannot quantify that until we get to them."

"We will close on the location momentarily, but let me update the High Seer first and confirm Casilkasheyith's suspicions about any significance to the location. Standby."

The young monk then opens a separate channel to the High Seer, not yet certain if an 'open dialogue' on this subject would be appropriate.

"High Seer - I have located Tyrrin and Ehos. They are located on the north side of the city, in the general vicinity of the Chancellor. I...think they are injured in some fashion, but I do not yet know how," he says to her, his voice remaining measured and calm to keep the flow of information as swift as possible.

"Is there any reason why the Chancellor would choose this area of the city to relocate to? Does he have a residence there, or is there something else in the area that could be of use to him if he were staging a coup against you?"

The jamming field does indeed seem to be around the city, not in it. The nanites are pointing him to a location on the north side of the city. That is definitely where the chancellor is. Finding the courage signatures is a little more complicated. Tyrrin's is faint, and there is something terribly wrong with Ehos's. They are near the chancellor, but there is some distance between them.

Unsure of what exactly he is sensing with Ehos, Fei decides that time is no longer a luxury in this rescue and commits to action.

Abandoning any more pretense of this being a peaceful outing from his duties, he removes his overcoat and lets it slide off of his body, separating into more nanites as it falls to bolster those already floating around him. The rest of his outfit converts to its more 'tactical' mode, covering the young monk's entire body to conceal his identity.

While he slips into something more confrontational, Fei instructs two of the nanites on the Chancellor to detach from him and make their way to the floor underneath his robes to begin quietly replicating, staying with the elf as he moves. The rest remain where they are in case they need to perform the same trick they did earlier at the festival.

Half of the cluster of nanites around Fei quickly organize themselves into a sort of communications array: A microscopic pair of nano-transponders, one near him and the other high above the city enough to be outside the jamming 'barrier', both directly connected by a nanometers-wide chain of hardened nanites to (hopefully) conduct the signal between them without being blocked so Fei can once again communicate with his comrades.

As soon as they are in position, he tests the secured connection.

"Casilkasheyith, Ghalen, Jaiye - can you hear me?"

She nods. "A communicator is good. Presuming we can get the jamming field down quickly enough. Don't worry, I will deal with the prisoners. I thank you again for your help, and ask for continued assistance. Please find my children. Before those who have taken them do anything...drastic," she said tightly, keeping control by a supreme force of will. It's obvious where Tyrrin learned the skill of keeping her emotions in check.

Forgetting himself for only a few seconds, Fei's features soften in empathy at Faelwen's amazing stoicism in the midst of all of these crises. Even if he could somehow ignore the fact that these were his friends that had been taken, he knew he could not fail in returning this mother's children to her.

Failing to hide this from her with a nod to her approval, the young monk calls down some of his nanites and has them form another brooch-type communicator. Shaped as a simple sunburst, he politely offers the device to the High Seer.

"If you need to reach me, just press the center disk - I will do my best to end whatever is causing the interference. And we will do everything we can to find them."

With one last bow he steps back, and nods to Casilkasheyith as he prepares to join Jaiye.

"Good luck - may we have good news very soon."

Fei then recalls some of the nanoswarm back to him, then uses his Champion abilities to teleport to an open, high point in the center of the city. From there, he tries to sense the siblings Courage signatures again, and also verify whether or not the jamming field was just along the perimeter of the city.

"I did not authorize the installations of any kind of jamming devices," Faelwen says, frowning. "This is very concerning. It suggests that this attempted coup has been going on for quite a long time and involves more people than I would have thought possible. I shudder to think of the casualties we might have faced today if not for your timely help. You have my gratitude," she says, nodding to them both. "That said, my first priority is finding my children," she says grimly. "Does Jaiye still have the demon she captured? The demon might be able to locate Ehos, although getting it to cooperate will not be easy. The wretched creature has caused enough trouble already, that it ought to at least be a little bit useful to make up for the trouble," she said, making a frustrated face."Will the prisoners remain restrained if you leave to go after Ehos and Tyrrin?" she asks Fei, concerned that the fight with the drow might resume if she sends him away. "If so, then you should both hurry and do what you can to find them before it's too late. I will see what I can See and send word to you once I have anything useful." She sighed, just for a moment looking very, very tired before snapping back to command mode. "I suppose I will have to try and ransom them back to their commanders," she muttered, looking at the drow prisoners, hands on hips as she considered the logistics of what to do with them. "I can't possibly keep them."

Fei bows respectfully, and tries to answer the High Seer's concerns as best he can:

"Jaiye still has the demon with her, yes."

"The...restraints I created are now 'set'. They will not change their shape again unless I instruct them to do so. That being said, arranging secondary confines for them would be a sound precaution. I am sure assistance with that could be arranged from Avalon, if needed."

"With your permission, I can leave you with a small communicator that will be able to reach us directly when you have news, assuming we can deactivate the signal jamming over the city."

The young monk looks slightly embarrassed at the High Seer's last comment.

"Um...I apologize, High Seer. I thought it would be unwise to let any of the commanders of the attacking force escape. The rest of them are over there," he says, gesturing to the smaller group of restrained drow isolated from the main group.

"Only one squad of their troops was allowed to escape. They will hopefully inform their fellows of the....inadvisability of coming back here." (=^-^=)

Listening to Fei give his recap of events, Ace suddenly perks up, as an idea just struck him. "Fei! Are your nanites able to find and communicate with other technology, even if it might not be made of nanites as well? and what's the range on them? Like, how far away from you are they able to travel completely on their own?"

The young monk nods.

"They can if I instruct them to do so, yes. And their range depends upon power availability - in this case, about 2 or 3 miles without further augmentation."

"I have functioning nanites near the edge of the city right now, for example, but I cannot directly communicate with them due to some kind of jamming technology in place."

He looks back over to the High Seer.

"I was going to ask if you knew about this technology as well, High Seer."

Fei makes sure he has enough of his nanite 'cloud' nearby in case any of these guardsmen turn out to be a threat as he replies to the High Seer.

"As Casilkasheyith said, someone from Laeren helped coordinate this attack. Most of the drow have been captured, and the rest routed, so the grounds are safe for the moment."

"A sizable portion of the guardsmen fled their posts at the precise moment of the attack, so this could be a person of influence in your government. Those guardsmen were bearing a unique pin that identified them at the time of the attack - I can provide a likeness of it for you if you wish."

Fei pauses briefly to give a smile and a reassuring nod to the elf he just healed, then stands up to deliver the worst of their news.

"We were just informed that two groups of these guards ambushed and kidnapped Tyrrin and Ehos. They used magic to evade pursuit, and my own abilities to track them from this distance are being....confounded. I will need to enter the city to have any better chance of doing so."

"Jaiye is pursuing a....person of interest right now, and Ghalen may be en-route to assist her as we speak."

Fei is in the process of using his healing energies on the wounded they came to assist, the silver-white light casting a somewhat clinical illumination over the area. At the sound of the High Seer's voice, he bows as respectfully as possible without interrupting the work on his patients.

Before he speaks, he scans the guards' uniforms to see if any bear the leaf pin of the traitorous faction.
