A good initiviate roll can make the difference between receiving damage and dealing damage. Also certain magic can make a ton of difference when cast earlier. Especially magic that's less effective or not usable once intense melee is going on.
(Edit: talking about experience with lower levels now)

So it's not that hard to see why people favor the feat.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

The INT bonus is considered as (and added to) the DEX bonus for AC purposes.
Since armor caps the maximum DEX, I'd say you only get as much as your armor allows.

I noticed two other things:

1/ The sling damage doesn't add STR bonus

2/ Playing around with creature size goes wrong sometimes. For example, for small creatures it says -1 (should be +1), and after changing to and fro the modifier doesn't always match the size.

Amazing app!

One question though, I have a PC with BAB 1 and STR 18.
But the app calculates CMB =4 and CMD = 14. Will the BaB get added automatically in a future version?

Thanks again btw, great reference tool!

I will be starting the main adventure thread soon, titled AJ's Dads Ptolus

Cool, we've started! Made my first IC post already. :)

Nice posts.

I see from some of you, the character account is an alias to your main account. Can you tell me how to create an character alias account.

Go to My account on top of the page. There, in the left column, you'll see a separate block with:

Messageboard Aliases
Create new messageboard alias.

Once you've created that alias, you'll be able to select with which alias you want to post (this is a drop-down menu below the text box as you reply to a thread).

How many traits are we allowed?

Since the DM didn't mention anything specific, I went with two.

What guidelines are you using to roll characters? Level, Ability Generation, Traits, etc.

Welcome to the party. If I'm not mistaken: level 1, max starting gold for your class, 2 traits, 4d6 standard ability generation. See the first page for some of the characters rolled.

DarkOne the Drow wrote:
I see die rolls are displayed. How does one do them. I have not done a forum game on Paizo forums.

When you reply, there's a BBCode tags you can use - click "Show".

There's an example in that list.

Just put dice tags (dice) and (/dice), but use [] instead of (). Between the tags, put your dice expression, like 2d6+3.
2d6 + 3 ⇒ (5, 1) + 3 = 9

DarkOne the Drow wrote:
Edit: what online die rolling site will you be using?

This forum has tags for die rolls. Head over to the discussion thread to see how we've rolled our character stats.

@lastknightleft: search this thread for "trait", I think AJD doesn't allow them.

We're using these. Entirely different layout style, but very complete. Also customized per class.

It would be really handy if everyone could download the players handbook from WWW.Ptolus.com. Its free and will come in extremely useful for those who dont have it.

Done, will read it once the adventure is about to start.

Do we get to roll our starting GP or do we take average?
I'm ready to buy some gear. ^^

Nice stats, but isn't it sort of obligatory to use the /dice/ tags? vJust asking. :)

Sorry Fraust, didn't see your previous post!

My stats in order:

Str 14
Dex 14 (12 + 2 racial mod)
Con 12
Int 8
Wis 11
Cha 11

Nice stats, but isn't it sort of obligatory to use the /dice/ tags? vJust asking. :)

@AJ's dad: do our character get to pick Traits as well (and how many)?

So now we have a confirmed Fighter and Sorcerer. PWO and Exoow still to decide.

Half-elf Ranger (combat style: two-weapon fighting, since you asked for two melee fighters).

Name: Lainadan Raelin. I'll create a forum alias pronto.

Can you provide some general info on the creatures/races/enemies in Ptolus? Might be interesting for the Favored Enemy ability... :)

In that case, I'll pick Ranger - despite my crappy stats, I'll specialize in two-weapon fighting for the sake of melee.

I'll come up with some random background story soon.

Also: I guess we need to register our character under it's own name here?
Any tips or things I should know?

Hello all

I was thinking to play a Ranger or Monk... Unless anyone else (apart from Cody) wants to play a fighter type?
I'm willing to settle for Rogue, too (or if really need be, Cleric).

4d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 5, 3) = 17= 14
4d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 3, 5) = 14= 12
4d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 1, 4) = 12= 11
4d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 1, 1) = 9= 8
4d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 1, 4) = 13= 12
4d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 1, 6) = 12= 11

Ouch.

I'd like to join in - but only if you'll have the patience to deal with a PBP-newbie. :)
I can post regularly (once or twice per day) and am familiar with most basic Pathfinder rules (though most of my experience comes from D&D 3.x a few years back).

Not familiar with Ptolus, by the way.

Oh, so the standard action for maintaining a grapple doesn't need to be one's first action in a given turn. I visualized "maintaining" a bit to literally, I think. Thanks, makes sense now!

By the way, the "move" action that's left over after/before maintaining the grapple can never be used to actually move (unless the grapple hasn't started yet, or has ended). Right?

Also, does the Pinned condition imply a prone position? (Since the character cannot move.)
When a pinned character succeeds in breaking the pin (and goes back to grappled), this consequently implies a "standing up" as well? Which in turn should provoke an AoO but it doesn't.

Some more Grapple clarification needed:

I've grappled an opponent with both hands free. Next round, is this order of events correct?

1/ I choose to maintain the grapple so I roll CMB+5 and succeed
2/ I use a move action to draw a light weapon.
3/ I attack the grappled opponent with the light weapon (as the standard action).

I suppose this isn't right because I've somehow dodged the -4 penalty (only one free hand). Does maintaining the grapple imply that I have to perform the standard action first?

Also, the move action that's available each turn is allowed for everything but actually moving (since that's an option under the Grapple standard action). Right?

So... I have moved 10 feet and fail my Overrun check, which means I stop in front of the target's space.

I assume I still get the rest of my movement for that round? Since I failed Overrun as a standard action (not a move action).

... but... but they're the same thing...

Exactly, we (all) agree on what the mechanics are.

A uniform description just would've been clearer. (End of rant. ;-)

Ryzoken: creative usage!

Magicdealer wrote:
No, normally it's 10 feet. The spyglass changes the increment to 20 feet. That's the difference.

I know that's what it intends to say... But the wording isn't correct.

Spyglass talks about a increment penalty but this penalty is nonexistent, since the Perception skill mentions a DC increase per increment.

Matthew Morris wrote:

It is. Normally it's -1 per 10 feet.

No, literally it's +1 DC per 10 feet (p. 102). It boils down to the same, but the wording for Spyglass is rather confusing because of its opposite wording.

Ok, thanks for the clarification.

Will there be a new (revised) print? Or simply an errata?

Edit: I think I've just found the answer in the Chronicles subforum. :)

Reviving a very old topic here, but I just want clarity on the following:

In the Chronicles Campaign Setting, p. 21: "High Chelaxian Opera is ... performed in Ancient Azlanti".

A few pages before, however (p. 19): "The ancient Azlanti tongue has been lost for centuries, known to modern scholars only in its fragmentary written form. ... Only the seafaring elves of the Mordant Spire speak ancient Azlanti fluently."

Am I missing an (as of yet unread) link somewhere? Or it is actually contradictory?
