Hmmm 4d23 to the rescue!

Seriously Lucendar, you have a tough job.

Good luck everyone.

Done.
Love is finished save for gear.

Just pull up a chair and relax. Maybe that nice Halfling can bring us some nice coffee.

{psst. Your perception skill looks to be 1 off. 3(class)+0wisdom+1rank is +4 but you list +5 where is that +1 I missed?}

Lucendar Changed campaign trait for Love. Inquisitive Archaeologist fit better. Still quite skilled at appraise though.

ok, since this is my first point buy build, is this a good 15 build? Also did I do it right. Stats before racial bonus are 16, 14, 12, 10, 10, 8.

Comes out to 15 so it's good.

Love's focus is more on not getting hurt. But there is an elven ranger w/ a first level dip in Druid idea that could make good use of it.

I am a fan of it as well. Besides taking only combat feats makes one seem a tad one sided. That said I have yet to nail down a starting feat for Love.

Alertness or Skill focus Perception would be a good start. but then there is Steel Soul....or Deepsight....or...<sigh>

Not something to worry about for a few levels at least. Rapid reload might be worth it as an early feat but it is a toss up between that and point blank shot. Eventually you will likely want both if you are looking at rapid shot down the line.

This is why I prefer thieves. The accounting is so much simpler.

Mind you having some folks walking through a tomb with kegs of low-yield explosives could come in quite handy.

Must remember Kn.Engineering so I will know which walls are not load bearing.

Rapid reload feat edited for focus....

Benefit: The time required for you to reload your chosen type of weapon is reduced to... a move action (for...or one-handed firearm), or a standard action (two-handed firearm). Reloading a crossbow or firearm still provokes attacks of opportunity.

So it looks like a move or a standard to reload depending on the gun.

Note also
Alchemical cartridge

An alchemical cartridge is a prepared bundle of black powder with a bullet or pellets, sometimes with more exotic material added, which is then wrapped in paper or cloth and sealed with beeswax, lard, or tallow. There are many types of alchemical cartridges, the simplest being the paper cartridge—a simple mix of black powder and either pellets or a bullet. Alchemical cartridges make loading a firearm easier, reducing the time to load a firearm by one step (a full-round action becomes a standard action, a standard action becomes a move action, and a move action becomes a free action), but they tend to be unstable. ...

The simplest cartridge runs 12g per shot and increases misfire by 1.

So using rapid reload w/ paper cartridges means reloading 1 barrel is a free action.

Hope that helped. All taken from d20Pfsrd

Hmmm odd mix

Only a lone bard on the arcane side.

A Cleric, a Druid, an Inquisitor and two rangers for team divine.

Were it not for how much playing Love's no nonsense, step where I step, attitude appeals to me I would be sorely tempted to toss in a Wizard candidate.

Worried it might play havoc with WBL. Glad for the reassurance the trait could have been written for Love it fits so well.

Vidic: Yes, thank you for reminding me. No traits that increase your wealth allowed.

Foreign opportunist indirectly increases wealth:

"In addition, your contacts in the antiquities markets allow you to sell relics of Ancient Osirion for 60% of their listed price, rather than the normal 50% value."

Will this be an issue? With a little background tinker Love can take another campaign trait.

More to follow......

And perhaps you needed some friends in "Low" places to provide a safe pipeline far from folks looking for revenge.....

Just saying...

Presenting Ernst 'Love' Lowfield for your consideration. Dwarf Trapsmith Rogue

I will happily be the rogue who does all the work. ICTSpiceMerchant is now free to run with the cleric idea. /snark

1. Visual description of character.
~The alias image is perfect for Love, I built him from it. Slightly sun-burnt, taking Foreign Opportunist campaign trait so he is new to Wati, short bearded as long beards and traps do not mix well. Dresses conservatively and practically. He is a professional, flash is for the client.

2. Why do you care about tomb exploring? Why risk death at the hands of ancient traps or untold horrors buried away? Isn't there an easier way for your character to make a living? Is it just greed for gold or something else?
~First it is something of a family business. The Lowfields have been making, and less publicly, breaking traps and vaults for generations. Think something like the Timsons from the Rumpole novels.
Love seeks to both expand the family business and to establish his own reputation by making a bit of a splash in this lottery. With a good name as a trapsmith and the funds from the tomb Love seeks to prove that the ancients cannot hold a candle to modern builders.

3. Brief history as to how you heard about lottery and came to be in Wati.
~Business contacts among Pahmet dwarf community sent word about the opening. Senior family members being conservative (they are dwarves after all) decided to send Love partly to test the waters pending any real commitment of resources and as a test for the young lad.

Male Dwarf Trapsmith Rogue

I have some bad news.

As you have no doubt noticed I have not been keeping up with the posting part of this play by post. My workplace has tightened up on 'personal' use of the net so I am really only able to post on weekends/evenings and that has simply not been happening.

I am afraid I need to exit this game. I am very sorry, you are all excellent players and Mark is one of the best gm's I have had the pleasure to play under.

I hope this will not cause too much disruption and I will follow your exploits with great enthusiasm.

Your former party member.
Love.

Male Dwarf Trapsmith Rogue

We just had a toddler staying over for a few days. It is amazing how many ways one youngling can find to try to kill themselves in an average house over a normal day.

Male Dwarf Trapsmith Rogue

{yup, lots of skill-points being spent on linguistics next level I expect}

"Let it go. It will be a while before it tries its luck again."

Male Dwarf Trapsmith Rogue

Dungeoneering: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12 +2 if they are aberrations

"Talking spiders?"

Male Dwarf Trapsmith Rogue

Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6

"Company?"

Love remains below the door spear set vs. a visitor from above.

Male Dwarf Trapsmith Rogue

perception (stonecunning apply?): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20 22/with stone cunning and an extra +1 if trapfinding triggers.

"Nice door" Love contemplates for a moment

"I suppose we could get a grapple up there, maybe pull the trap open. Or use that cart from back a bit to maybe reach?"

Male Dwarf Trapsmith Rogue

"hmmm. Never heard of them, likely other villages. Mind you the fact that there is a sign at all means this is a pretty peaceful area. Also the sign is in common script. Whoever put this here has regular contact with surface dwellers. But we have folks to rescue, political geography can wait."

Love draws and loads his crossbow.

"Back to the spider trail?"

Steelribs seems the best tracker (for now Steelribs, only for now) so toss him in the leas with the rest of us using aid another to track the spidies.

Male Dwarf Trapsmith Rogue

Never mind on guns, The I doubt we will have access to the 4grand it takes to buy a gun at 2nd level when the firearms style kicks in also I would need the EWP.

Whew I am glad I do not have to worry about that anymore.

Male Dwarf Trapsmith Rogue

Re#1)So Humanoid (elf) would mean surface elves. Hmmmm does not fit the background for a deepwalking tomb-breaker.

Aberration will fit though.

Re#2) So if I were to go the trophy hunter route and take gunfighter for my fighting style would I spend the entire AP looking for ammo?

Male Dwarf Trapsmith Rogue

Well then need to change then. While you are here 2 questions.

1)Status of drow? Known active foes/known to exist but very very rare/ rumors/ legends?

2)status of firearms. Dwarf with a shotgun is a trope for a reason.

Male Dwarf Trapsmith Rogue

Hey VOV/all any advice for favored enemies? I have never played a Ranger before so this is new territory. I have undead currently but is there is a better option.....?

Male Dwarf Trapsmith Rogue

Let me have a look.

The silent dwarf with the close trimmed beard studies the tracks.

survival, tracking: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25 Knew there was a reason I was playing a ranger.

Male Dwarf Trapsmith Rogue

Thank you. And please dmpc as needed.

Male Dwarf Trapsmith Rogue

Sorry about the radio silence. Got a bit overwhelmed. If I am still in this game I will catch up tomorrow 5/nov and post in the main thread.

Male Dwarf Trapsmith Rogue

Dotting.

Male Dwarf Trapsmith Rogue

Yea!!!

Now I just need to decide if I am sticking with love as a thief or going Ranger......

Khepri Are you sticking paladin? 2 deep rangers would be overkill.

Male Dwarf Trapsmith Rogue

What the goth dude with the beard said!

Male Dwarf Trapsmith Rogue

Well folks have started getting their creature cards so I think there is still some small hope.

...But then Love is basically an optimist.

Male Dwarf Trapsmith Rogue

Don't mind me just casing the joint......

<...whistling...>

Male Dwarf Trapsmith Rogue

Worst case we go back to playing Hunger in the Darkness. I hope ToN does see the light of day though.

Male Dwarf Trapsmith Rogue

That seems to happen pretty regularly hang tight everyone.

Male Dwarf Trapsmith Rogue

No rush. We are content in limbo.

there are cookies.

Male Dwarf Trapsmith Rogue

Sounds like a fun trip.
Get a window seat and long flights become a full sensory IMAX experience called "OH Man The Earth is Cool!!"

Well at least that is what happened on my big NL vacation.

Male Dwarf Trapsmith Rogue

1. No problem with june

2. nice mask. :7)

Only if we went with the eeeeevil side of the AP... but I'd think that to be truly Goblinish you'd have to rig the harness to keep you right way up while the ant is upside down :P

Nah the goblin way would be to use sovereign glue to keep yourself in the saddle. See problem solved.

I'm open to other deep races with a proviso of some cross balancing against other party members.

Stonelord Paladins are hard as nails... very tough to put down.

Not that I am seriously considering this but I just had an idea for a goblin cave druid with a giant ant companion/mount. Or even an ant mounted cavalier. With the ant's climb speed the character would spend most of the AP upside down.

I am hoping to go back to 1st and experience it from the beginning. I'll probably want to conform to a race that can see underground this time though!

Or we could all go non-dark-vision. There are enough dark-vision goggles/ever-burning torches/ioun torches to make a light dependent party function in the game.

At least I think so, the AP might be different.

Strongly considering Deep-walker/trapper ranger. Traps and full trapfinding instead of spells but I think this would work for 'love'.

Male Dwarf Trapsmith Rogue

Cool. I was just worried I had fallen out of the loop somehow.

Speaking of falling out of the loop what is this about builds? Are we going back to lvl 1?

Male Dwarf Trapsmith Rogue

Knock knock?

anybody home?

Male Dwarf Trapsmith Rogue

I am open to Throne of Knight. Would prefer to de-level and see the whole AP though. And I second what Dolgrym said about breaks.

Though I might wand to rebuild Love. The call of a Dwarven Ranger(deep walker or dungeon rover) is strong and would fit Love's personality.

Male Dwarf Trapsmith Rogue

"Understood, and accepted. I just wanted to wipe the smirk off the rat-kings face when he had to do his own dirty work. Get ready and I'll open the door."

Love will open the door when directed and take cover behind once opened. Leaving this fight to the specialists.

If you need to bot me please consider Love going Full defense ac23 unless things get desperate.

Male Dwarf Trapsmith Rogue

Replacing the periscope in his magic pack Love pauses when he sees his spidersilk rope.

The canny dwarf looks up a glint in his dark eye.

"We were contracted to bring in the corpse. So we have to do that...Now technically ol' rat boy beyond the door is a corpse now. Nothing in the job says he can't still be kicking when we deliver. Might teach the Rat-king a little respect."

I was thinking a simple snare trap by the door with the armor as counterweight. Ratty charges us and upsie daisy. A little work with ropes and we will have the corpse packed for shipping.
Problem is a CR 1 snare trap would take 2 weeks to build even assuming a 20 on every check. Either that or be a 5th level Ranger(trapper) who can do it as a full round action. The craft rules are rather in need of repair. Sigh, Any hope for a GM's fiat rescue here Voice?
.
The trap in question: Snare trap CR1, Perception to spot DC20. Disable DC15. Effect: grapple CMB20. Trap does not reset. Craft dc 20. Full cost 500gp 'cheap' cost 125gp.

Male Dwarf Trapsmith Rogue

"Woah!"

Love launches himself back from the door cushioning the periscope with his body as hr rolls to his feet.

"Dead rat. Dead angry rat."

Male Dwarf Trapsmith Rogue

Should work just like normal vision. If {distance from mirror to viewer + distance from mirror to subject </= 60' then the subject is viable. Otherwise the mirror will be viable as a source of reflected "light" or whatever dark vision uses in it's place. Dark-sense/tremorsense would not do mirrors "seeing" only a smooth flat surface but Dark vision is vision so mirrors should work. In my opinion anyway.

To the wee bestie: "Pssst. You in the corner. Ye alive or nay?"

Male Dwarf Trapsmith Rogue

Look a rogue listening at a door. Are we old school yet? Perception, canny 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (8) + 12 = 20Aw man.....

"Right, Oh dear you have been through the wars...." Love mutters to the door as he begins to work. "...perfect tool for the perfect job..." Love removes a crowbar from his pack and begins to pry. Either to open the door or to create a space for his periscope.

Male Dwarf Trapsmith Rogue

"Bugger.... company's coming. Can one of you duplicate the metal banging until we want the rats here? Grab the hammer and hit the door quick!"

No one has Ghost sound?!? ^(*%#$*&))!

Love examines the door. Open-able? Hopelessly jammed? Locked? Trapped?
(Ok, that last is unlikely given the hammer massage but paranoia means never having to say you're sorry. Perception, canny 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (19) + 12 = 31 add 2 for stone and 2 again for traps. Also trap finder and stone cunning free checks.)

Male Dwarf Trapsmith Rogue

round one continued
AoO- from prone. Attack dagger, flank, bless/light, prone target(converting the -4 AC to a +4 to hit) 1d20 + 3 + 2 + 1 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 3 + 2 + 1 + 4 = 23. Damage 1d4 ⇒ 1. Not likely sneak attack-able but if so 2d6 ⇒ (6, 2) = 8

Rolling to his feet (drawing AoO) Love tries to find a vulnerable point.

round 2
(assuming AoO did not splatter me)
Still trying to find something useful to stab.
Attack dagger, flank, bless/light, prone target(converting the -4 AC to a +4 to hit) 1d20 + 3 + 2 + 1 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 3 + 2 + 1 + 4 = 21. Damage 1d4 ⇒ 4. Not likely sneak attack-able but if so 2d6 ⇒ (2, 1) = 3
