About Eris Kallisti

Character concept: I intend to have Eris capitalize on the versatility of the bard class and fill in whatever role is needed. The Dex is high(ish) for AC and bow pewing, INT is 12 for for skill points. It *was* 13, but I dropped it to 12 as I am likely taking 2 levels of Lore Warden at levels 3 and 4 (Lore Warden grants Combat Expertise as a free feat instead of the Fighter Bravery). CHA is high for spell DCs. With these stats, the basic strategy will be spell, and pew most of the time and then using the whip to assist in battle control for those moments when spells aren't enough. I plan on taking a level or two of fighter (Lore Warden) to help out in the feat department. In terms of leveling, I haven't planned that out yet as it will depend on the strengths and weaknesses of the group. The focus of my subsequent leveling will probably be the bow, as I am somewhat lowish in the CON department. However, I will likely be at least competent with a whip to help with battlefield control (because bardy spells are few and far between). I have, therefore, swapped out my first level feat (Lingering Performance) for Weapon Finesse so that by level 4, I should be able to fill in, competently, as an archer and whippin' boy (I will have Weapon Finesse, PBS, Perfect Strike, Combat Expertise, and Improved Trip -- the absolute basics of competency with both means of attack). Level 5, I'll go back to Bard levels and grab Lingering Performance as the feat. From there, I'll likely be grabbing the rest of the whatever role the party is most lacking.

In terms of personality, Eris is cynical, witty, and uninhibited about most things that people consider taboo. At least that's how he presents himself. He's most comfortable when he's the object of affecction and so he tends to charm and seduce his way into the pants of those around him. To that end, Eris often mimics the traits of those his 'client' seems to want to help them realize that Eris is exactly what they're looking for in a partner. Indeed, despite his mixed heritage (or perhaps because of it), he is certainly easy on the eyes. He often plays coy, and though he uses the promise of sex as a means of getting what he wants from those around him, he does it in such a way that most don't realize they're being manipulated.

The race is TBD. The story assumes Eris is a Half-Elf, but the stats will assume he is an Azata-blooded Aasimar.

The Story:
Eris is the unwanted bastard child of an illicit affair between a visiting Elven merchant and a wealthy Human noblewoman in a large city a fair distance away from Katapesh. Initially, the woman intended to play the child off as her Human husband’s offspring as Half-Elves, as some were able to do. However, even Eris’ genetics were conspiring against him as he came out looking like the purest blooded Elf that ever lived. It was his eyes: one an impossibly green emerald green, the other a shade of purple so rich and vibrant it was almost too purple to be purple. The nobleman was, unsurprisingly, livid at this turn of events – the heir he’d hoped for was the half-breed child of a whore. Despite his wife’s protests, he gave the child to one of the servants to leave outside so he would die of exposure. The servant took pity on the child, however, and instead deposited him at a local church of Calistria where he was raised in the ways of the church until he was around the age of twelve.

Even then, he had an almost impossible beauty about him. He had the bravado of a man, but the physique of someone much more soft and feminine. He had long golden hair and an elegant swagger that he’d picked up watching the local girls of the church doing their business. He was happy here, despite the place being an ‘inappropriate’ place to raise a child.

As with everything else, however, this too turned against the young half-breed. A local brothel began to view the church as ‘a threat to business’ and elected to do something about the threat. A band of thugs were dispatched to do away with the church. Most of the church workers were killed. Those unfortunate enough to survive were taken into the brothel where they were sold into sexual slavery. Eris, much to his dismay, was one who survived. Though, for what it is worth, he fetched a higher price than most of his ‘colleagues’. Not only because he was young, but because of his impossible beauty.

And so he was trained in the ways of the prostitutes. He learned the things to do, the things to say to please his clients. He learned the way to walk, the way to talk. He learned how to cause the right kinds of pain, and he learned how to suffer through the many unforgivable pains. He learned to please men, women, and everything else. But one night, he was asked to do too much – he cracked. He killed the fat bastard he was with, and mangled the man’s genitals and face something fierce.

Eris fled into the night and never looked back. He fled for what seemed like days before he finally collapsed to the ground in sheer exhaustion; a smile on his still blood stained face. He looked up at the stars and then he started laughing uncontrollably and tears began streaming down his face as he came to terms with reality. In this moment he is free! Even if they came for him; even if they torture him; even if they kill him; whatever else may happen...right here, right now Eris' life was his own. Nobody could take this one moment away from him: not the Gods, men, demons, devils, anything from the lowest plane to the highest...they were all powerless in this one moment against Eris' own will.

Eventually, Eris fell asleep beneath the stars and he was awoken by the sounds of a passing caravan the next morning. He bluffed his way into their ranks claiming his own caravan had been raided by slavers who'd intended to sell Eris into slavery several days ago but that Eris had escaped their camp but only after killing one of the other slavers (hence the blood). The gentleman in the caravan offered to take Eris to their end destination: Riddleport.

And this is where Eris has been ever since. It has been two years since Eris first tasted freedom, and Eris has learned the ins and outs of Riddleport well. He works the hours he likes as a prostitute, and earns just enough money doing so that he can afford the barest minimal comforts. But they are his.

But people are, by nature, greedy; and Eris has decided that he wants more than what he's getting. There is talk of a competition at one of the taverns nearby...perhaps they are looking for help? If not, Eris could always try his hand on the gambling tables. As a whore, you learn to read people and surely that would be an asset to him when it comes time to bet.
