HP 19/19, AC 15/12/13, CMD 15, F; +2, R; +5, W +3

Flinching as Harold's earthbreaker squashes the zombie to the ground Elvar turns his attention to the next one in line, the one Parnel was fighting in the grease. Still holding his sword in both hands he, again, swings at a zombie...

attack, same as before + flank: 1d20 + 3 + 1 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 3 + 1 + 1 + 2 = 25, dmg: 1d8 + 3 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 3 + 1 + 1 = 6

...catching it from behind Elvar cuts a long, deep, gash through it's tough skin across it's back.

Luck used 2/8 rnds.

HP 19/19, AC 15/12/13, CMD 15, F; +2, R; +5, W +3

Following Harolds lead, Elvar steps around the column with his longsword in hand and, stepping onto the stairs, takes a swipe at the zombie at the top of the stairs...

2h attack w. arcane strike and luck: 1d20 + 3 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 3 + 1 + 1 = 25, dmag: 1d8 + 3 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 3 + 1 + 1 = 11
Critical Confirmation: 1d20 + 3 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 3 + 1 + 1 = 20, dmg: 1d8 + 3 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 3 + 1 + 1 = 10

21 dmg to the zombie not in the acid cloud, man! I should have targeted it instead.

...hitting it squarely in a downward strike on the shoulder the sword cleaves through flesh and bone, coming to a stop in the middle of it's chest. Ripping the sword free, a chunk of flesh seems to have stuck to the blade. Blinking at in amazement Elvar realizes it's the things rotting heart that he pulled out of the zombies chest but, though near it's end, the zombie keeps coming. It was already dead, organs didn't seem to matter much to the unholy creature.

HP 19/19, AC 15/12/13, CMD 15, F; +2, R; +5, W +3

Taking a deep breath before coming up the stairs, with his sword in hand, Elvar glances around to take in the scene, seeing the man at the edge of the room he guesses him to be the necromancer and points at him, casting a spell.

Swift; Activate Luck.

HP 19/19, AC 15/12/13, CMD 15, F; +2, R; +5, W +3

@Fanguar; Does it have something to do with the stairway or the front door? Cast detect magic on that area.

Game Development primarily with AI secondary most likely but I don't have to choose till my second year I believe.

HP 19/19, AC 15/12/13, CMD 15, F; +2, R; +5, W +3

Hey guys. A heads up from me here.

I'll be moving this summer, end of July most probably, so my internet might get hectic during that time but bigger news; I just got accepted into Reykjavik University where I'll be studying for a BSc in Computer Science for the next three years, starting august 19th. I don't know how that will impact my schedule or my ability to play play-by-post, time will have to tell.

"Why would a severed head be enchanted with illusions?" Elvar muses and starts looking at the head in a different way, suspecting a trap.

Wandering over to the desk Elvar picks up the potions and inspects them, one by one.

Milky Blue: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Deep Red: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Sallow Yellow: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
White with Black Streaks: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9

"Well, the sallow yellow one is a potion of ghost touch. I can't make out the others, Istvan? You want to give them a look?" he then places the potions back on the table, they were here for the bones, after all, not to rob the man.

appraise: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21

"Some valuable stuff here. The silver platter would go at 50 gold, the smoked goggles block out glare and are worth maybe 70 gold and the rug would fetch 200 gold pieces."

Knowledge Arcana: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

Leaving the note to Istvan as he's inspecting the table. Any checks for the head GM?

HP 19/19, AC 15/12/13, CMD 15, F; +2, R; +5, W +3

Elvar goes and stands in front of the gruesome sentry, wondering what sort of twisted mind would create something like it. "Anybody see any bones?" he asks while inspecting the thing.

Cast detect magic.

HP 19/19, AC 15/12/13, CMD 15, F; +2, R; +5, W +3

"Sure." Elvar takes the offered rope and grappling hook, sets it and starts to climb.

HP 19/19, AC 15/12/13, CMD 15, F; +2, R; +5, W +3

"Inviting." Elvar mutters sarcastically as he observes the observatory.

"Shall I lead the way? Considering his want for privacy, I get the feeling he might have prepared some surprises for unwanted guests."

Elvar offers to lead the way, looking for traps as he goes.

"The boss would be Smenk, I think we'd like to avoid him unless necessary." he whispers to the group as he walks on by, heading for the door.

"It's about 10 minutes out of town along the coastline, we can head there now I guess. It's been abandoned for some years now." Elvar replies to Talia.

Turning to the half-orc and his friend he gives a stiff smile and a nod. "Thank you, wise decision, now, who's Filge?

HP 19/19, AC 15/12/13, CMD 15, F; +2, R; +5, W +3

Elvar gives a single, loud laugh at the half-orcs statement before answering him.

"HAH! You're possibly the worst liar I've met in Diamond Lake, buddy. How on oerth you have managed to reach such a venerable age around here is truly quite beyond me. Well us here.." Elvar indicates the party with a hooked thumb, never taking his eyes of the half-orc. "..honest members of the Diamond Lake society, accompanied by this here representative of the church of St. Cuthbert.." Elvar points our Harold with his big hammer. "..We've agreed to help a restless ghost who wants to be buried besides his family, now imagine our surprise to find his family just up and gone when we get there to inter the poor fellow. With the excavation tools still there, and the fresh boot marks to go with them. Well, we follow the track to the house and guess what we find? A severed arm with a really interesting brand, a very rare brand. Now then, are you going to point us too where we can retrieve what was dug up or shall we just point Mr. Land's ghost your way then, you being the reason he can't sleep properly and all, I'm sure he'd be delighted to spend eternity haunting your sorry hides. That, or we can see how kindly the church takes to your practices. You choice, but please, please, for the sake of everyone's dignity, don't lie to me again. You stink at it."

Elvar's eyes linger for a while on the elven woman before finding the scarred and battered thugs. Going over to them he gives his best smile.

"Hey guys! How y'all doing? Healing up nice and well from that owlbear and the Land estate? Nasty creatures, them." he states and gives them all a critical eye to try and gauge their reactions.

Elvar disgorges his best estimate of who could afford and want to buy an owlbear in Diamond Lake. Browse the spoilers guys.

"I guess the Feral Dog is our next stop after we dispose of the owlbear but shouldn't we bury the bones we have before heading back?"

HP 19/19, AC 15/12/13, CMD 15, F; +2, R; +5, W +3

"Talia, seriously. I don't see another way here, unless you know of an owlbear in the vicinity that's willing to take in a young one, it's either take it to town and find someone willing to train it or kill it, right here, right now. The babe won't last the week out here alone and I'm not inclined to take the risk of it wandering near town, Talia. We need to deal with this."

Yes, I just copied the spoiler..

"And you're right Harold, that thing is worth a lot of money. Anybody think they can handle that animal?"

HP 19/19, AC 15/12/13, CMD 15, F; +2, R; +5, W +3

Elvar nock another arrow and let's fly at the owlbear.

Attack w. luck and arcane strike: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17, damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

HP 19/19, AC 15/12/13, CMD 15, F; +2, R; +5, W +3

Seeing Talia stretch her bow tout makes Elvar giddy to the core and watching the arrow fly he can only hold true and wait for the thing to poke it's head out.

Readied action if triggered, shoot owlbear: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16, Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

HP 19/19, AC 15/12/13, CMD 15, F; +2, R; +5, W +3

"'Cause it's a pity that they need to be dealt with, but they need to be dealt with nevertheless. As natural as a mother protecting her cub is they're nesting way to close to town and frankly, rather them than my sister or mum, ok?"

HP 19/19, AC 15/12/13, CMD 15, F; +2, R; +5, W +3

Looks good. Elvar will activate luck ready an action to shoot the owlbear, when he sees it, with arcane strike.

HP 19/19, AC 15/12/13, CMD 15, F; +2, R; +5, W +3

"Ok. Let's do this. I'll provide ranged support to you Harold, these quarters are to close for three of us to try and get close."

Readying his shortbow Elvar calls on his luck to guide him.

I got no buffs except archaeologist's luck so I'm good to go.

HP 19/19, AC 15/12/13, CMD 15, F; +2, R; +5, W +3

Lol Talia! I have no idea what you just signaled there :D

HP 19/19, AC 15/12/13, CMD 15, F; +2, R; +5, W +3

"Wheelbarrow tracks lead from the site back to Diamond Lake, five prints lead from here back to the farmstead and four return at a run. Maybe they met resistance at the farmstead?" he offers.

HP 19/19, AC 15/12/13, CMD 15, F; +2, R; +5, W +3

Wands added back to loot sheet, I thought we were selling them but I see that your selling list drew no objections so I guess we're keeping them (which is fine by me).
Istvan; You want to keep hanging on to those?

HP 19/19, AC 15/12/13, CMD 15, F; +2, R; +5, W +3

Actually, on second thought I think I'll wait with the shield. It's weight puts me into medium load and I don't think spending the action to drop my pack is worth it when we hit combat. I'll wait for the mithral version ;P

Edit; And who's carrying the potion?

HP 19/19, AC 15/12/13, CMD 15, F; +2, R; +5, W +3

Could all of you please update your sheets with the items we kept and let me know so I can edit the loot sheet, please.
This is what we've got;
78 gp each.
Goggles of Minute Seeing -Elvar
+1 chainmail -Harold
Potion CLW (1)
Ring of Featherfalling -Talia
Pearl of Power lvl 1 -Istvan
+1 short sword -Talia
wand of cure light wounds (50 charges) -Who's hanging on to it? Elvar seems to be busy fighting so far but he can hang on to it if Parnel would rather memorize it, otherwise we could free up Parnel's spell slots by having him hang on to it. Thoughts?

Otherwise Elvar is fine with donating to St. Cuthbert and he will buy a light steel quickdraw shield from the blacksmith if he makes those. After that I'm ready.

HP 19/19, AC 15/12/13, CMD 15, F; +2, R; +5, W +3

Question guys; Wouldn't it be a good idea to buy that wand of cure light wounds now? Elvar, for one, isn't in dire need of anything in particular but that wand might be a life saver.

HP 19/19, AC 15/12/13, CMD 15, F; +2, R; +5, W +3

Bardic Knowledge (Local): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17

Elvar doesn't take kindly to being called a thief and tells Tidwold to mind his own business and tells him if he doesn't like it then the group will take their business elsewhere.

Talking to Allustan:
The Dukes of Aaqa; Who were they? How powerful were they? Who were their leaders? Why did they go extinct? Are there any monuments from their time still standing? Any artifacts?

The Battle of Pesh; Who fought? Why? Who won? How?

Side questions; Can Allustan teach Elvar Auran? Can Allustan explain how they made the air-cushioned beds? Could the statuettes be used as base-lines for new designs?

Before selling off the statuettes Elvar will sketch them into a notebook with references and notes...Profession Architect: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15...with passable results.

HP 19/19, AC 15/12/13, CMD 15, F; +2, R; +5, W +3

Harold?

HP 19/19, AC 15/12/13, CMD 15, F; +2, R; +5, W +3

Oh! And Elvar would stop over at Alustan's, the resident sage and Elvar's mentor, and tell him about everything we've discovered, emphasizing the lost civilization part and the effort they've gone through crawling through the cairn.

HP 19/19, AC 15/12/13, CMD 15, F; +2, R; +5, W +3

Elvar'd say that a half-truth would be best. We can tell them we found it in a cairn but lie about which one to send any would be competitors on a wild goose-chase. Plus, we've only got the one door left to explore, right? If that doesn't lead into another complex then we can finish off that cairn and then tell the truth.

List of stuff to sell by order of where we might sell it;
-----------------
Blacksmiths';
mwk leather armor
mwk. heavy mace
mwk. banded mail
mwk. morning star
+1 short sword
------------------
Tidwold's curiosity shop
Elven Bracers (2)
Wand of Unseen Servant (16 charges) -Istvan
Wand of Shatter (7 charges) -Istvan
statuettes (3)
Silver ring (non-magical)
------------------
Stuff we're keeping based on previuous discussions;
+1 chainmail -Harold
Ring of Featherfalling -Talia
Pearl of Power lvl 1 -Istvan
Potion CLW (1)
Goggles of Minute Seeing -Elvar
50 gp.
-------------------
Anybody have any comments on the list? I for one can see use in keeping both the wands and for Talia to hang on to the short sword but I reckon people have their own ideas about what items would serve each of us best so I'm fine with selling them.
If the statuettes don't fetch a good price I want to hang on to them. Elvar, as a budding architect, would like to keep them as a reference or a base model for his own ideas if nothing else.

HP 19/19, AC 15/12/13, CMD 15, F; +2, R; +5, W +3

Elvar has a sack for lugging them around and he won't care if they draw stares, telling people freely that they are excising a ghost if anybody asks.

HP 19/19, AC 15/12/13, CMD 15, F; +2, R; +5, W +3

Ah, my bad. Loot sheet updated and I say head to town to sell off our goods.

HP 19/19, AC 15/12/13, CMD 15, F; +2, R; +5, W +3

"Well, that's some fine equipment you had on you. Were you a professional explorer?" Elvar asks the ghost. "And I can't help wondering if you'd mind us putting your former gear to use? It sure is a fine suit of mail you've got there and that coin sure would come in handy.." Elvar tails off, smiling at the ghost.

HP 19/19, AC 15/12/13, CMD 15, F; +2, R; +5, W +3

Elvar looks at the ghost with a blank expression as he can't help but think of the wand of unseen servant in Istvan's possession and wonder if that wouldn't do the trick just as efficiently as the broken-necked ghost would, but knowing Harold to be the pious sort, burying the bones would probably be a better solution for the groups morale so he nods his consent.

"Alright. We'll see you interred Mr. Land. Though we do have the means of opening the door ourselves, I believe, we will bury you on a matter of principal more than anything else. Everyone deserves his final rest."

With that Elvar looks at the bones from up above and inspects the pit before climbing down to retrieve the bones.
