The Garundi named Kartek was taken in as an orphan by the Chelaxian alchemist Ambustus. As per custom he renamed her Ambustiana, and taught her his trade - making gunpowder.
Chelaxian names seem to be a mix of Italian and Finnish.
Ambustus translates from Roman as "the burned one"
