I consider these easily the quintessential gamingt battle grids for standard grid-based battles. With the newest Dungeons and Dragons game assuming you will have a grid and minis, this can almost be considered a necessity. They work well even if you use a dungeon pack, this can be a good background to help keep everything organized. For areas not used for combat, notes can easily be taken on it. As with all wet-erase mats I have used, be careful about keeping marks on these too long. Most of my mats have some darkening from past use.

Made of the same quality material and design Chessex uses in its smaller mats, these are excellent for above-ground battles at what I call "archery distance" engagements. The only real downside besides of course needing a large table is the time it takes to detail an appropriate amount of terrain.

Having run a convention event with two of these attached, I can tell you that setup will take more time, but the sheer size of the engagements will be well worth it (assuming someone can reacy their minis in the middle). Only lost its 5th star because there is so little support to overcome this problem.
