Spellcraft: 16+7 = 23. Hmmm, hope I didn't just waste a decent attack roll on a spellcraft check for a spell that our guy saved against anyway!

(Female Elf Wizard (Transmuter) 6 / Ranger 1 / Eldritch Knight 2)

Init:4+3 = 7. Guess you didn’t need to wait for me…

Elisile slows as she rounds the corner, prepared for an ambush, as many of her new companions overtake her and charge around the corner. Looking into the street, she carefully assesses the situation.

Starts in square A11. Intent is to fire bow at either warchanter or goblin in B4 depending on tactical situation at her turn.

(Female Elf Wizard (Transmuter) 6 / Ranger 1 / Eldritch Knight 2)

While the others quip and question, Elisile is already moving as soon as she heard the alarm. She heads towards the sounds of the goblins, bow nocked and ready.

(Female Elf Wizard (Transmuter) 6 / Ranger 1 / Eldritch Knight 2)

Elisile either ignores or accepts Vathran’s implied insult – or else takes his words at face value. She nods silently, and then returns to scanning the area for further sign of goblins, ignoring the banter between the humans (and the dwarf).

“There are likely to be more,” she states absently. “We should be on guard.”

(Female Elf Wizard (Transmuter) 6 / Ranger 1 / Eldritch Knight 2)

And my bow!

“It is good that you did not die Lo’j Jhae Deverin. I am Elisile, called Starbrow, of Meriani.”

Elisile then walks over to Vethran, and repeats her introduction. “Your spells are most potent, if lacking finesse,” she adds bluntly. “Are you a mage of some standing in your Order?”

She glances over at the dwarf curiously - Farshore?

(Female Elf Wizard (Transmuter) 6 / Ranger 1 / Eldritch Knight 2)

Elisile raises a delicate eyebrow, and nods very slightly, but says nothing.

(Female Elf Wizard (Transmuter) 6 / Ranger 1 / Eldritch Knight 2)

Elisile turns back to look at Alwyn. “No,” she says, “but at least we can understand this. This town needs to train it’s Watchers more thoroughly.” She goes back to surveying the area for further threats.

(Female Elf Wizard (Transmuter) 6 / Ranger 1 / Eldritch Knight 2)

After searching the goblin’s corpse, Elisile walks over to pick up her discarded bow, nodding to Alwyn as she passes. She is keeping an eye – and an ear – out for any further sign of goblins nearby.

Takes 10 on spot and listen checks for 16 on both.

Anyone want a magic weapon? The beefier types don't seem to need it all that much, so I was thinking I'd cast it on Elisile's bow, or possibly L'oj's longsword. Any takers?

Might be better for one of the melee fighters. Elisile is likely to switch between bow and melee, so might not get the best bang for buck from the spell.

(Female Elf Wizard (Transmuter) 6 / Ranger 1 / Eldritch Knight 2)

Elisile wipes the goblin blood carefully from her blade, and then bends to search the body of the female goblin she has just finished off, wrinkling her delicate nose in distaste.

Search: 16+9 = 25

Aubrey:

Spoiler:
May not get a chance to post before this is worked out - my action will be as posted above. Is the goblin females mount within reach? Or was she thrown off?

(Female Elf Wizard (Transmuter) 6 / Ranger 1 / Eldritch Knight 2)

Spoiler for Aubrey:

Spoiler:
On her turn, Elisile will move to attack the mount of the female goblin, if she can do so without attracting attacks of opportunity from any remaining goblins. If the mount is already dealt with by that point, she will coup de grace the female goblin and search her for anything interesting. If she does need to make an attack roll, she will use her previously cast Guidance spell that I forgot to use last attack to gain a +1 to the roll. Attack roll if needed: 14+4+1+1=20

Slightly out of order, but to save waiting 15-16 hours for me to post…

The loud, armoured human with the dog, who had run in, shouting out orders and tactics (“Flank them! Aim for the back of their necks!”)(I assume that’s how the aura of command works?) – had been taken down by the two goblin cavalry.

Good tactical position thought Elisile. If you know you have allies you can rely on. And if you don’t look like the biggest, most easily accessible threat.

The elf sighed, and prepared to turn her bow on the two goblins, for what good that might do – the man was likely dead, and even if he was not, she could not take down both goblins and their mounts before they could make sure he was – and none of the others in the square were in a good position to help him.

Just then, much to her surprise, the savage looking dwarf charged over to assist the downed man, opening himself up to attack from the goblins he had been facing. The Shoanti warrior – or was he a priest? – whom she had spoken to earlier also weaved around some other combatants and hacked down one of the goblins.

It was good that they had come to the downed human’s assistance – but it made it difficult to use her bow in the confusing melee.

On her turn:

Spoiler:
Elisile will cast aside her bow (free action), and, drawing her rapier as she moves, move to space I7 (assuming it is not occupied by Alwyn).
She strikes at the rat-like mount of the goblin in J6.
Attack Roll: 18+5 = 23. Roll to confirm critical: 17+5 = 22
Damage: (4+2) + (5+2) = 13 – assuming it is a critical hit and the +1 from inspire courage applies to both damage rolls.

Not to wet blanket anything but I can't find a clear path for your charge from where you started, I had you as starting around the A10-B11 area by last reckoning. From any of those squares the charge is blocked by either Larken, Illes, or a Gobbo footsoldier. Did you have a different start location and if so what was it so I can correct my map?

Kind of looks that way to me too actually. Of course, Illes could finish off his goblin and move north to clear the path! Or, I think he could charge to space J7 or K7, and use that attack on goblin J6 instead?

Spoiler:
Will that put you in I6?

(Female Elf Wizard (Transmuter) 6 / Ranger 1 / Eldritch Knight 2)

Elisile rounds the corner, and quickly scans the area, assessing the situation. A number of her impromptu allies charge forward to engage the enemy, or else move to more strategic locations.

Of the enemy, it appears that a number of the goblins are about to put the large building to flame. They would appear to be a target of priority, but Elisile realised that it was extremely unlikely that all eight torch wielding goblins could be dealt with in the few seconds before they would throw their torches. At a worst case scenario, the building burning to the ground, the townsfolk in the square would have time to get away, and this building could be rebuilt in a few short years, decades at most.

No, the priority target here was the leader – presumably the singing goblin female near the back of the warband. Elisile would trust in the humans and the dwarf to deal with the goblin toughs – she would go after the leader.

On her turn:

Spoiler:
Elisile moves from B14 to H13, and fires her longbow at the singing female goblin. Attack roll: 15+4 = 19. If it hits; Damage: 8.

Meh... I'm here... I'm here....

Larken moves from A14 to D 11 and readies an action to attack a goblin if one comes within 10'. If I can't do that, then I just move.

Not wanting to charge onto one of those wicked-looking pieces of ragged steel, Larken move into a better position, and assumes a ready stance, hoping that some goblin will not be as cautious.

Sorry man, I'm too impatient.

Yep. I know Aubrey likes his rounds nice and neat and in init order, but I'm inclined to skip (or delay) Larkin at the moment and go onto the next guy.

(Female Elf Wizard (Transmuter) 6 / Ranger 1 / Eldritch Knight 2)

Well, you did warn us Aubrey, that having an eight character group was going to slow things down...

(Female Elf Wizard (Transmuter) 6 / Ranger 1 / Eldritch Knight 2)

On her turn, Elisile will murmer another incantation, casting Guidance on herself (standard action). She will also draw her longbow and scan the area for viable goblin targets (move action). Spot: 11+6 = 17

(Female Elf Wizard (Transmuter) 6 / Ranger 1 / Eldritch Knight 2)

On Init 10:Elisile finishes her simple incantation, feeling a slight warmth infuse her. However, between the Shoanti warriors and a human mage who sprang into action as the goblins began to charge, all the beasts in this group are down. She nods in silent appreciation of the human wizard. Crude and brutal magic, but extremely effective. He seemed to be a moderately powerful wizard, or one well practiced at his chosen focus. Elisile then spins to look for more targets.

Awaiting her init to come around again…

(Female Elf Wizard (Transmuter) 6 / Ranger 1 / Eldritch Knight 2)

Spot 8+6 = 14 Goblins! The Watchers here allow vermin like that to slip by them undetected?

Seeing that a group of the creatures are running towards her, Elisile mutters a minor incantation that will help fortitude her against the coming battle.

Init 7+3 = 10. On her turn, will cast Virtue on herself, for 1 bonus hit point.

(Female Elf Wizard (Transmuter) 6 / Ranger 1 / Eldritch Knight 2)

Elisile nods politely. “The gods they speak of are known to my people, but the stories are different. I had supposed that they are consecrating this building before which those six stand, as a place where their gods can be known.”

Alwyn wanders over to the nearby elf, addressing her in Elvish. "Excuse me, miss, but you came in on our boat, right? You're as far away from home as we are - could I perhaps inquire about what you're doing here? How 'bout this - you tell me your story, and I'll tell you mine?"

Alwyn was raised by an Elvish-speaking mother, so he speaks excellent Elvish. He's also genuinely curious about who their mystery passenger is, not to mention that Elisile looks about as lost as he feels...

There were the two barbarians again, standing, like her, slightly apart from the crowd, but watching it – as well as the ceremony at its focus. As she watched them, the hairier of the two turned his head in her direction, and a look of recognition crossed his face. Elisile hurriedly looked away, but it was too late, the man was already striding towards her.

She quickly scanned her mind for the appropriate human greeting in their Common tongue, when the man took her off guard by addressing her in Elven – quite passable Elven too – blunt and low on nuance, but grammatically excellent. Despite his blunt approach – lacking in introduction and word-play – she realised that the human was making an effort to be friendly.

“Pleasant approach to twilight, traveller far from home,” she begins, bowing her head slightly. “I am called Elisile Starbrow, lately of Crying Leaf. I am in this place seeking a beginning to a Journey, it’s end unknown; although my current purpose lies in understanding this Festival before us.”

(Female Elf Wizard (Transmuter) 6 / Ranger 1 / Eldritch Knight 2)

Elisile had not expected Sandpoint to be this … active. Not that she expected to find it serene and majestic like Arsmeril – or even quietly industrious and busy like Crying Leaf, perhaps the closest analogue she had to this place. No, she had expected to find it quiet and boring in a sullen, brooding, suspicious sort of way.

Not all this – festivity. The noise, colour and smell of the town’s markets had confronted her soon after disembarking from the cog at the docks. The people in this market seemed to be enjoying themselves far more than at similar venues in Riddleport, but she kept her purse – and her blade – as close here as she had there. Freedom of expression and celebration were Rights, and even humans and their ilk should pursue and enjoy them – but did they have to pack so close, shout so loudly (heedless of her sensitive ears), and – apparently – bathe so infrequently. Her own Right to solitude and space was being seriously impinged, and there was little she could do except to push past and attempt to find a quieter spot to wait out the hubbub before pursuing her journey.

Thankfully she had become somewhat used to this foreign concept of crowds during her brief (but oh, it had seemed long) time in Riddleport, and even to some extent in the crowded confines of the Abadar’s Favour on the way here. She managed to find a relatively quiet tavernesi, where the price of a small meal and a glass of wine brought her several hours of relative solitude, as the market outside gave way to a parade and increasingly noisy festivities, - until the inn began to fill up enough that others sought to join her small table and she left.

Most of the people in this place were human, although there were a smattering of various other foreign races – including a few elves spotted here and there through the crowd. She did not approach theses anymore than she would the humans – they were foreign, or more likely Forlorn, and she would not know how to speak to them. How to speak to a sister or brother who had never known the embrace of family, the shade of the White Barks, the induction to the Mysteries?

She did spot a few semi familiar faces in the crowd – at least she thought so, as she was still having some trouble differentiating one human from the next. But these two were sailors – or more likely mercenary guards – aboard the ship from Riddleport. Of the Shoanti barbarian tribes she thought, although not quite like the ones who sometimes foolishly raided the borders Mierani – one of them was far too hairy, and the other did not have his skin adorned with the cuts and inks typical of many of the humans she had seen.

She wondered if the pair of Shoanti would recognise her – she had stayed as much as possible to herself on the journey, but had stood alongside several other martially minded passengers and crew with blade and bow on one day when a pirate vessel had approached closely several days out from Riddleport. The encounter had come to naught but a brief exchange of ballista and bow fire before the pirate thought better of a mark that fought back. But she had seen one of the Shoanti nudge his fellow and nod in her direction as she bent her bow ready for combat; in respect or derision she could not tell. For now the question remained unanswered as the two walked on, apparently not seeing her.

As the day wore on, she found herself – despite her aversion – giving in to curiosity and following the parades, listening to the unfamiliar accents of the priest and taking in the subtly different depictions of the gods.

It had been with some surprise that she had discovered the gods worshipped amongst the humans were the same as those known by her people, although only one who was a focus of this festival today – Desna – was privately revered by herself in the dark spaces of the night. Although she understands the language, Elisile is in fact a little lost as to what the exact subject of today’s festival is. It certainly has something to do with the gods – six of them, Desna prominent amongst them. Perhaps the completion or consecration of the temple building that the parade winds it’s way towards?

By late afternoon, Elisile finds herself lurking at the outer edge of the crowd gathered in front of the building – in fact, beyond the crowd as much as is possible. She watches the crowd warily for any danger to herself, but is increasingly interested in the purpose – and apparent focus – of the festival. Perhaps the evening – or the morrow – will bring some clarity as to the resumption of her journey.

Somewhat with Lo'j on this one. But being (or wanting to be) a member of the Pathfinders may give the somewhat-bigoted-when-it-comes-to-humans Elisile a good reason for joining this human-centric adventuring group.

Just one comment - you appear to have five ranks in Survival, which obviously isn't possible for a first level character.

Um ... elven bonus? Mystic Ranger bonus? No, sorry, I've got no idea why I did that, I'll adjust it. You may have noticed, I've just updated my equipment too.

Elisile's background.

Description.

Of medium height, quick and slender, Elisile has long white hair, a narrow face, ears that rise to points above the crown of her head, and large, somewhat expressionless eyes. She dresses functionally in dark leather and silk. She looks around her with an air of restrained but thirsty curiosity and mild distaste. A dark blue stone of high polish seems embedded into her forehead.

Background:

Elisile studied the arcane arts for several decades at the Tower of Stars, in the deepest regions of the Meriani. Magic was very serious, and studies that humans may have breezed through in mere weeks, the elves would spend years understanding the deepest mysteries of.

As her studies neared their end, rumours began to reach the Tower of trouble at the borders – marauding bands of humanoids and giants – the border Watchers were struggling to deal with the influx. Darker rumours too – that the marauders were not truly the problem, little worse than ever, but the Watchers were dealing with a cancer from within the borders.

Whatever the truth, those studying at the Tower who had demonstrated a particular competence with magic, or blade, or bow, were drafted to serve in the border guard.

Elisile served for two years, training, wraith-walk patrols, killing ogres from hidden tree-top archery platforms. At last, to her stoic relief, she was to return to the Tower to finish the last months of her training.

But she was turned away at the gates. “It has been Seen,” the Magister informed her through the barbed gates. “Your training finishes elsewhere. There is a destiny. Travel to the lands of the Mon-Khee. Seek the Unshining Light. Your journey begins.”

She made her way to the den of Riddleport, her first taste of humanity unpleasant but little more than expected, her blade and her ability to remain hidden her protection. Passage on a boat, pure elven gold to a dirty peddlar of journeys. Enduring the stink and harsh cries of humans on the voyage.

At last, the ship’s destination, a tiny blot of “civilization” called Sandpoint – a human town, known for it’s lighthouse, now unshining. Her journey begins.

(Female Elf Wizard (Transmuter) 6 / Ranger 1 / Eldritch Knight 2)

Ok, it's mostly there. I'm kind of going for the classic, old school elf who can fight, sneak, cast spells, good with a bow etc.

Still need to finish equipment, do background, description etc.

(Female Elf Wizard (Transmuter) 6 / Ranger 1 / Eldritch Knight 2)

This will probably be my avatar, character name and ability scores. Still figuring out the rest...
