But I haven't looked at the spoiler yet, in case Elsile isn't in a position to see, or the DC is different. Aubrey, regarding the updated map, Elisile should be at W17 based on her last round’s action. Perception: 5 + 13 = 18 Elisile puts a hand to Hudak's leg. "Look there," she says, pointing to the water swirling about the church's tower. "See how the water eats the lime - many bricks are already swept away. That tower will not stand for long." She takes a moment to whisper the words to another spell casts Fly on herself if she has time, then looks closely at the building and the tower. Aubrey, there is obviously an easy way in and out of the building that is not under water - how about the tower itself - any large windows in the belfrey or anything? Look like a lot of people in the tower? "Priest," she calls to Father Sheed, "your building's tower will not long stand against the force of the water - are there any more within?" Elisile completes her incantation, and Hudak expands to twice his previous height and width. “That should help with deep water and high windows,” the elf murmurs, probably unheard by Hudak’s elevated ear. On her next turn (round 2) she then begins another spell, a minor dweomer of speed, then moves hastily towards the church. Casts Expeditious Retreat on self then moves 60 feet (after having five-foot stepped to AR 13 in round 1) north of the fish smoker to AG 14. She’ll look for entrances into the church, doors and windows big enough to fit through. Vethran Tallomane wrote: Okay, my action is dependant on something the rules are a bit fuzzy on. With summon monster III, I can summon 1d4+1 dolphins with the celestial template who will default to being NG. I can't directly communicate with them, but is it possible to instruct them simply to move to a place (near the ferry) and then come back once the villagers are able to climb onto them? If all I can do is tell them to attack, then I'll need to come up with something else. Regular dolphins are known to rescue drowning/shipwrecked people all the time of their own volition. I figure NG celestial dolphins would be even MORE likely to do so. For good or ill I’d say you’d be firmly in the realms of GM fiat there, since you can’t communicate with them – which technically means you can’t direct them to move to an area. You could probably summon them near the people in trouble and hope that their natural instincts kick in and they’re inclined to help, but you’re definitely in a rules-grey area. It is fairly well documented real life behaviour that dolphins will often help humans and other animals in distress in the water. Vethran Tallomane wrote:
Can do. During the downtime: Elsile sells her scroll of mirror image to the traders, getting 75gp. She buys a cloak of Elvenkind for 2500gp. She spends two days of downtime scribing scrolls, creating a scroll of invisibility sphere at CL 5 and two scrolls of mage armour at CL 6. DCs are 10 and 11, she automatically makes the checks. It costs her 337gp and 5sp to create the scrolls. She is willing to spend another day making scrolls if Vethren or Illes want to put in any orders from her spells known list. She will also spend a few hours attempting to understand and scribe Dispel Magic into her spellbook from a scroll she owns. Spellcraft: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (7) + 14 = 21. The check succeeds, so she loses the scroll but adds the spell to her spellbook. It is not long before Elisile’s joy at the rain turns into melancholy. It is only through the counsel of her companions (and the reminder of mud – lots and lots of mud) that she does not strike out cross country to get away from this wet, muddy, sickly village. The cry of children in trouble quickly shakes her out of her fugue. Grabbing for her bow and pack (in case of water monsters), and pulling the hood of her newly acquired cloak up above her rain soaked ears and hair, she heads out into the flooded streets to see what she can do to help. “I will drink too,” says Elisile, “providing I can find anything palatable in this village.” She looks out the rain-streaked windows at the dingy town. “Doubtful perhaps. But there is always rainwater.” The elf steps out onto the street, no longer wearing the Medusa Mask, closes her eyes and raises her face to the heavens, letting the water wash away the grime and stink (perhaps imagined, as she has already bathed and washed her clothes) of her recent adventures. If any members of the party want or can use a scroll of mirror image (CL 3) or a scroll of acid arrow (CL 4) Elisile will give them to that person, otherwise she will sell them to the merchants on the riverboat Titanic. She’ll probably buy something too. Maybe some boots or cloak of Elvenkind if they have any in stock? Vethran Tallomane wrote: Hm... I'm assuming 16 days of downtime is not apt to happen anytime in the remotely near future? Otherwise, instead of the pearl, if Elisile wanted to chip in 3k on top of my 5k, I could craft a headband of vast intelligence +4 for myself and hand down my +2 headband to her. She'd still be paying 1k less than "book price" for a +2 headband and I'd get an upgrade. Ah well. Sounds like a good plan, maybe at a later date. Aubrey the Demented/Malformed wrote: You might also want to consider a mithril chain shirt. It's got +4 AC basic bonus and a maximum DEX bonus of +6. Good choice, although unless you can afford a magic one at this point it won't be any better than your current armour. Also, try to invest in a belt of dexterity asap. If you haven't already done so, max out acrobatics to help you move about the battlefield without being hit. Also remember that under the right conditions you can make ranged sneak attacks too, so long as you are within 30 feet. Camlo Zenovia wrote:
“I would have no qualms if you decided to travel with us for a time, Camlo Zenovia,” says Elisile. “You should know though that trouble seems to follow us ... and I would say that we are committed to seeking out the being who bears the name that the snake-women told us of ...” I’ll assume we can’t actually get the gold from the loot we plan to sell until we reach Magnimar. I guess we hang about and rest up for a few days before heading back. If there’s anyone in town who is willing to ride out to Magnimar now with a message, we’ll send them; otherwise I guess we go ourselves once it is dry. Elisile is in no hurry to return, but it would be good if they could send a garrison to Fort Rannik. Once Alwyn’s WIS is restored, Elisile suffered one point of drain too, and I think some of the others did too. We should all throw in some gold for the donation, its in all our interest to get our cleric back to full capability. Thanks Aubrey, that was a fun battle. “Well met again Dravite Schorl,” calls Elisile gaily, clearly in a good mood after killing ogres – a task she was well trained for on the borders of the Meriani Forest. “How does it happen that you have found us again?” After surveying the fort and seeing the depravity of the ogres, her mood darkens. She does what she can to cleanse some of the mess they have left, and treat what remains of non-ogre bodies with some respect. Veth can take first dibs at the acid arrow wand, if he doesn’t want it I’ll take it. Everyone gets a potion of CMW except one of us who gets the CSW – maybe Camlo, as he keeps getting himself into precarious positions? Else Hudak, who probably takes the most damage. Elisile takes a 5 foot step to H9 and looses several more flaming, crackling arrows at the remaining ogre. Attack 1: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (2) + 15 = 17, Damage: 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9 + fire: 1d6 ⇒ 2 + electricity: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Elisile takes a 5 foot step to H9 and takes aim with her bow. Assuming it is in a straight line from the open gates she should be able to see it clearly. If it is literally running (rather than having made a double move) it will be at one range increment, so I’ll factor in a -2 range penalty to these shots. Rapid shot, haste, favoured enemy, bardic bonus etc. Attack 1: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (4) + 13 = 17 Damage: 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9 + fire 1d6 ⇒ 6 + electricity 1d6 ⇒ 4
Any excess hits go to the ogre in the pond if applicable. EDIT: Wow those are some truly craptacular to hit rolls. If the ogre didn't make it more than 120 feet away from Elie (ie, he didn't 'run', add 2 to the rolls. Aubrey the Demented/Malformed wrote:
Whoa. “Impressive indeed Hudak of the Shoanti!” Elisile calls, shifting her foot away from the flow of entrails spreading over the ground. Aubrey the Demented/Malformed wrote:
She smart. Aubrey the Demented/Malformed wrote:
Although I should possibly keep my mouth shut and go with the result that sees the nasty ogre with the hook go down, Elisile was actually aiming at the ogre in front of her, H-I/10-11. I was clarifying which one Veth was aiming for when I mentioned N-O/13-14. The hooky ogre that Veth is targeting would be N-O/13-14? Ducking and weaving, Elisile steps back, drawing and firing crackling, flaming arrows at the ogre in front of her as she goes. 5 foot step back to I8 and fighting defensively as a full round action. Full attack with bow on ogre H-I/10-11, this will draw an AoO.
EDIT: If both those hit that will be 31 points of damage. Alwyn Agnarrson wrote: Two misses on me, BTW. Dunno about Camlo, though. Finally, the ogres in IJ 10-11 and IJ 12-13 should both provoke AoOs from Hudak. If they were in column IJ yes, unfortunately Aubrey put them in column HI. Aubrey, I think ogre L-M/15-16 should be in M-N/15-16 so as not to overlap with the guy next to him. Vethran Tallomane wrote:
That is the ogre that Illes seems to have successfully charmed. Which you may well know, but just in case you didn’t ... Camlo Zenovia wrote: I think that's where we are. Camlo moved to G13 with that acrobatics check. Hopefully.... Hudak’s in K12, Elisile is in I9 and Illes and Dravite have now of course moved ... otherwise looks about right. Aubrey the Demented/Malformed wrote: As a rule, club = easy to kill, not much to worry about, ogrehook = seriously bad mofo, a lot to worry about, is a good assumption. There are trwo ogrehookers other there - one on Dravite, one on Illes. You managed to kill one without really engaging him, being dear old mink chops, but it took two fireballs and a final stab from Alwyn. Yeah, ogres with fighter or barbarian levels (as I assume these have) are nasty. Aubrey the Demented/Malformed wrote:
Crapola, and that guy just did 36 points of damage on Illes this round too ... with one attack. Wishing I got that crit now ... Alwyn Agnarrson wrote:
Yeah, better to take your hasted full attack. Just to clarify – there are only 7 ogres, the newcomers, that are standing so far as we can see, correct? Also, what square is Dravite in, he stepped 5 feet on his last turn, I assume to X10? Elisile steps up beside Vethran and unleashed a barrage of fiery, electrical arrows at the ogre menacing Illes. Five foot step to I9, then full attack the ogre at LM 7-8 with rapid shot, haste, point blank shot, favoured enemy bonus etc.
EDIT: Crit confirm: Attack 1: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (4) + 11 = 15 Damage: 2d8 + 10 ⇒ (3, 5) + 10 = 18. EDIT: So assuming the first two attacks hit (but the crit does not confirm), that will be 41 points of damage.
