Main group: Spoiler:
Elisile’s mask hides her expression as she glance at the grizzly work of making an ogre-head shish kebab. “I suggest that if there are any more in here that would pose us a serious threat, they would have made themselves known by now,” she says. “Let us take your trophy down to the courtyard and face the beasts there.” Main Group: Spoiler:
“I am uninjured,” answers Elisile, still watching the other door, although she glances briefly at the slain ogre corpses. “These ones for tough and competent for ogres. It may be that we have slain the leaders of this band.”
Doesn’t look like Veth is going to need any help IDing the magical items, but if he misses anything Elisile can have a shot at it. “Are you well, Hudak?” she adds, gazing at the shoanti through the inscrutable eye-pieces of the Medusa Mask, having noticed that the warrior appears to have bashed himself in the face. Isn’t ‘ogre 3’ (on Nevynxxx’s map) the one that Elisile finished off last round? Elisile steps out of the side chamber and shoots through the doorway, trying to aim her electrically charged arrows past the enlarged Alwyn to hit the ogre magess. 5 foot step to G6, full attack with bow on the ogre in the pink dress. Rapid Shot. Amongst the various modifiers I’ve applied a -4 penalty for cover provided by Alwyn.

Sorry man, didn't see this. Illes Elandru wrote: Moth> That particular ogre is prone from the spell, so +4 AC vs ranged, but -4 AC vs melee. Can you hit the guy standing beside him or does the wall block you? Yeah, I don't have line of sight to the other I don't think. Didn't really realise your spell made him prone, but that's ok - I'll take the -4 to hit, so Aubrey can take my original rolls, ignore when I said add 4 for Alwyn having moved. Mask is up. “Yes, you are somewhat blocking the way there Alwyn,” Elisile murmurs in agreement with Vethran, as she shifts, trying to find an opening between the two Shoanti brothers to shoot one of the ogres. EDIT: Sorry, I was a bit over-eager, I posted Elisile’s turn but then realized that Camlo and the masked ogre go ahead of Elisile. However, unless the situation dramatically changes, she’ll take the same action, below spoilers.
Spoiler:
5 foot step to F5, then Rapid Shot at ogre 3 in J-K 8-9. I’ve included a -4 penalty amongst the various modifiers for the cover provided by Alwyn. Attack 1:1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27 Damage: 1d8 + 8 + 1d6 ⇒ (3) + 8 + (1) = 12 Attack 2: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20 Damage: 1d8 + 8 + 1d6 ⇒ (3) + 8 + (6) = 17 EDIT: If Alwyn is in F-G 7-8 he doesn't provide cover to this ogre, I have clear line of sight - so +4 to each of the to hit rolls above.
Elisile glances past Alwyn’s enlarged form at the new arrivals, but keeps her main focus on their original opponent, hoping to take it out of the fight. Using rapid shot with bow. Should first shot take this guy down, she will switch targets, firing through Alwyn’s space at Jaws for the second shot, though he will get at least a +4 AC bonus due to cover from Alwyn against that attack. If the first ogre goes down from either Elisile’s first or second attacks, she will take a 5 foot step to G4.
Second attack looks like a possible crit, if so: crit confirm roll: 1d20 + 7 + 1 + 1 + 2 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 7 + 1 + 1 + 2 + 3 = 20, Damage: 2d8 + 4 + 2 + 4 + 6 ⇒ (1, 3) + 4 + 2 + 4 + 6 = 20 (I don’t think I triple the electrical damage from shocking quality, right?) Elisile Starbrow wrote:
Elisile sneaks up to the landing (Camlo probably by her side) and peers carefully around. “Perhaps our first instinct was correct; any enemies left on this floor would surely have come at the sounds of battle – these ogres do not seem intelligent enough, or have enough self preservation to hide or set up a complicated ambush. Let us go upstairs instead as Alwyn suggested.” Sound ok? If so, up the stairs, Stealth: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (17) + 14 = 31, Perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (4) + 12 = 16 When we’re ready to move on, lets try the door at G6. Same deal, the others hang back 10 or fifteen feet, Elisile and Camlo approach stealthily (stealth:1d20 + 14 ⇒ (8) + 14 = 22), check out the door (perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (20) + 12 = 32), then Elisile stands with bow ready while Camlo tries to get it open. Oh and we’ll glance up the stairs as we pass them, before we do the door, make sure nothing is on its way down. At some point while Veth is studying, and after the ogre bodies have been dragged out of the hall and some attempt at clean up has been made, Elisile will ask one of the others to take a spell at keeping watch, and cast detect magic on all three ogre bodies in the torture chamber room. Spellcraft on hook: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (5) + 16 = 21
I find it difficult to imagine we will have that fifteen minutes, I’m not certain we will even have those few rounds Alwyn took to heal everyone before someone comes to investigate. Maybe I’m just being pessimistic.
Sorry about the delay, hectic day at work. Hoping that the rest of the group will be able to deal with one wounded ogre, Elisile takes a step forward and keeps a careful watch through the open doorway at the corridor beyond with her bow drawn and ready, watching for any other denizens of the fort who might be alerted by the sounds of battle. 5 foot step forward to G2, Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20, ready action to shoot any enemies entering the corridor. Elisile brings up another arrow and releases, again targeting the ogre, 8 + 8 + 1 (PBS) + 2 (ranger) = 19, Damage: 2 + 1 + 1 (PBS) + 2 (ranger) + 5 (electricity) = 11. She then darts away into the store room (move to G1), quickly and breathlessly telling the others what they have seen – “First door on the right – ogre! Just one. Quick, before it alerts this whole place.” Nevynxxx wrote:
Heh. Only if someone had pointed it out before I started drawing the map out. Oh, and you appear to have a misplaced door at G3 too. I think I’m missing something, or something is wonky with the description. The room is at A-E 5-7, but the nearest doors are at F4 and F9, and there are stairs at F6. Should the room be at A-E 3-5 instead, with F4 the door in, and the table and the ogre shifted accordingly? Or am I just not getting something? Elisile looks back at the others waiting a few feet away at the store room door, points to the door, then mimics Camlo’s earlier imitation of an ogre. She then quietly nocks an arrow to her bow, then nods at Camlo, then the door handle. Technically you can’t ready an action outside of combat, but Elisile is getting ready to shoot at whatever is beyond when Camlo opens the door, if appropriate. Init: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20 if necessary. The rangers didn’t give us a map of the inside of the keep, did they? Let’s head to the nearest door – whether its on the east or west – and try that. The bosses might be upstairs, but it doesn’t seem to make much sense to leave a castle full of ogres between us and our escape route if things go sour, so exploring this level is probably the go. To save time, we should probably come up with a standard approach to doors. How about this – Elisile and Camlo both sneak up and listen at it (Elisile will take 10 as standard on both these checks), Camlo can search for traps in the same roll, (the rest of the group stay at least 15 feet back, space allowing) then Elisile covers the door with her bow whilst Camlo tries to pick the lock and/or opens the door. If all is clear we gesture the others forward, if its not clear the others will surely soon know about it! If Elisile and Camlo are quiet enough they might be able to get surprise on anything behind the door. Elisile turns her head, fixing Alwyn with the blank stare of the green glass eyes of her new mask. “No. I believe I understand how this works. Also, my examination of the dweomer reveals that the petrification is not permanent, so if there is some accident … all is not lost. “Stealth is certainly a good idea. Camlo and I, perhaps, should lead.” Let’s say Elisile and Camlo stay about fifteen to twenty feet ahead of the rest, using stealth and perception as they go?
