Method 3: How about fan loyalty? Such as the On-going Subscriptions in a tiered chronicle? If you have 1 on-going subscription, you qualify for this race..., 2-this race or race 1, 3...

Highly doubt that. According to Paizo the demand for Starfinder has actually exceeded their expectations.

I suspect the exact opposite problem may have occurred. I don't think Ninja Division has ramped up their design and production for a new mini line enough to supply the demand that is obviously out there for Starfinder. I think they were planning a niche line, and somebody realized that they are gonna get a tiny, immediate sellout of the line, and a huge, angry crowd of pent-up demand.

Is it better to release a very, very small range of minis, sell out in minutes, and have nothing backed up, or not release anything but pawns until you have a genuine supply of minis? IDK.

Someone like Wizkids may not have done minis that were as nice and detailed as the planned NjD line, but they could have put out two dozen figs and resupplied them. Of course, WIzKids may not have been able to supply enough for the demand for the consistent Pathfinder mini line AND a new line, so Paizo may have decided not to screw up what was already working for Pathfinder.

Removing all information and updates from their site must be the secret operative plan to quell an "angry crowd of pent-up demand". Would of been my strategy.

Silver Crusade

Apparently, Ninja Division has already failed to meet their mid-September estimate to deliver miniatures. Various websites are predicting Oct-Dec sometime. In addition, it looks like the miniatures are going to be expensive; $10 for a medium:(

Hello everyone. A friend and co-worker of mine was just diagnosed with Stage 4 liver cancer. Medical expenses are going to be huge. I have created a GoFundMe

GoFundMe:
site to donate to his cause. Each donation of $10 gets you 1 ticket for the drawing on Halloween Oct 31, 2016. Please place in comments of your donation "I Be Goblin" and I'll know to award raffle tickets to your donation. The drawing of course is for an official (unused) I BE GOBLIN boon from GENCON 2012. I hope this doesn't violate the use of boons or solicitation on this site.

So how soon before we see PF 2nd Edition?

When Lisa stopped by did she also say, "Don't be biased on my account, don't save all the cool sculpts for female mini's. Make more awesome male ones proportional to our player base..."? Just curious if she said anything like that at all.

I paid for two directly from their site and after two weeks I heard and saw nothing so I disputed through paypal for quick response. They said, "Sorry about that. We somehow marked your order as shipped, even though we hadn't shipped it. We can get this right out to you if you like, or give you a refund. Just let us know how to proceed. Thanks! Danny Hammerdog Games". I replied ship asap please and dropped the dispute on paypal. Five business days later I still haven't received a confirmation that they've shipped yet. I'll keep you guys posted if I ever receive them:(

If it's the former, it would have been more amiable to say, "I agreed with your initial perspective, Karnos. Don't give up the ship now!" If it's the latter, it was unnecessarily grinding salt in a deep and infected wound festering from having bared his soul on an unforgiving forum; cruel.

Metamagic Rods Corerule Book Page 464: Metamagic Rods hold the essence of a metamagic feat allowing the user to apply metamagic effects to a spell AS THEY ARE CAST.

Specific overrides general.

Page 484 but I'll let that slide. People like to stop reading when they find the answer they like. Let's read the second paragraph under Metamagic Rods on that same page. "Possession of a metamagic rod does not confer the associated feat on the owner, only the ability to use the given feat a specified number of times per day. A sorcerer still must take a full-round action when using a metamagic rod, just as if using a metamagic feat he possesses (except for quicken metamagic rods, which can be used as a swift action). You see? You still use the rod as you use the feat. For Wizards, that means preparing ahead of time. Paizo is NOT infallible, their is definitely information here that contradicts itself. They explained it for the Sorcerer how it was as if having the feat, they (Paizo) probably thought that good enough instead of detailing EVERY possible class and situation. It obviously needs a FAQ, or expect table variation.

OP-QUOTE:
karnos wrote:

I know this has been brought up in threads before, but I don't think the threads are correct, and rather than necro one, here we go:

I was GMing for a 12th level wizard recently. I'm thinking the whole time I have metamagic down pat. He pulls his metamagic rod in the middle of combat to cast a selective fireball. I say "you had to prepare a selective fireball" because as I believe, spontaneous casters can use them on the fly, prepared casters have to prepare them. He, and the table, scream at me, "No way! That is the point of rods, everyone uses them on the fly." After the game, I look up the rod description it says:

Paizo SRD wrote:

Metamagic rods hold the essence of a metamagic feat, allowing the user to apply metamagic effects to spells (but not spell-like abilities) as they are cast. This does not change the spell slot of the altered spell. All the rods described here are use-activated (but casting spells in a threatened area still draws an attack of opportunity). A caster may only use one metamagic rod on any given spell, but it is permissible to combine a rod with metamagic feats possessed by the rod's wielder. In this case, only the feats possessed by the wielder adjust the spell slot of the spell being cast.

Possession of a metamagic rod does not confer the associated feat on the owner, only the ability to use the given feat a specified number of times per day. A sorcerer still must take a full-round action when using a metamagic rod, just as if using a metamagic feat he possesses (except for quicken metamagic rods, which can be used as a swift action).

My 12th level wizard stopped reading at the first bolded line, which I think is the fluff. But the first and second boldings seem to contradict each other. The first seems to imply on the fly. The second seems to clearly outline the mechanics and references the feat found here(bolding mine):

Paizo SRD wrote:

Metamagic Feats

As a spellcaster's knowledge of magic grows, he can learn to cast spells in ways slightly
...

Possession of a metamagic rod does not confer the associated feat on the owner, only the ability to use the given feat a specified number of times per day. Then, Wizards and Divine Spellcasters: Wizards and divine spellcasters must prepare their spells in advance. During preparation, the character chooses which spells to prepare with metamagic feats (and thus which ones take up higher-level spell slots than normal). from here
So "only the ability to use the given feat..." followed by "Wizards and divine spellcasters must prepare their spells in advance." means that even with a metamagic rod, Wizards and Divine STILL must prepare the spell ahead of time.
