In the Greshnik Mountains, the humans of the Tylaran Clan survive the harsh conditions through their tough skins, rugged upbringing, and pure determination. Duglan Xavier Sanders is one such person, born and raised under the teachings of Gorum. Each child is taught how to wield weapons from a young age, and forced to spar with their peers with the goal of being a great warrior. At the age of ten, each child must go out into the wild and live on his own for three moons. The weaker do not survive, while the stronger relish in their independence during the ritual. Upon the completion of this ritual, man/womanhood has officially been reached. During their retreat, each child is supposed to reflect about what style of combat is best suited to their expertise. When they return, the young warrior seeks out to forge his weapon of choice and train with it. At the age of 16, it is typically time for them to leave and seek out employment as mercenaries.
Born with the birthmark of Gorum, Duglan was destined to be a formidable warrior, with a powerful body and a resolute heart. When Duglan grew up, he proved to be a strong fighter as a child. One of the principles that the people of the Tylaran Clan are taught in their training is “It is best to keep an enemy at arm’s reach, for if they approach your body, they approach your soul.”. Duglan took this saying literally, and decided that it would be optimal to defeat his enemies by keeping them at arm’s reach. One of the most common polearms that are used by Tylarans is the fauchard, a strange but deadly weapon. Duglan found a special attachment to this weapon and set to work finding every possible way to inflict pain upon his enemies.
As per tradition, Duglan left the clan at age 16. He traveled, offering his services at various taverns as a bodyguard, but found the wages to be paltry and his employers disagreeable. Because he never learned how to read or write, many people found him to be hard to get along with and hard to reason with. However, his ability to inflict pain upon others caught the eye of The Way. With talk of a great salary and riveting opportunities to fight against real opponents on dangerous missions, Duglan joined on with The Way, and was not disappointed. He has been working his way up the ranks in this organization for the last few years, and seems content with staying here as long as they can provide for his increasing needs.
