Thanks for the replies everyone. This is the first time I have encountered having kids so young. Like I said they were around 9-10. Since they were so young I started thinking of issues like parental permission and possible user minimum age requirements for some of the online resources. I tried searching the forums for any earlier threads but didn’t see any, so I posted this one.
A father brought in his two sons and a few of their friends to play PFS. The kids are around 10, and just picked up the beginner box last week. I told the dad where to download the basic PFS rules, but I wasn’t sure how to handle getting the kids info set up in the paizo system. Is there an age limit on creating an account on the paizo website, so they can register a PFS membership number on their own account? If the children can’t create their own account, how do their parents set up PFS numbers for each child on the parent’s paizo account?

The weekly PFS game at All Things Fun is now Friday nights due to a change in store hours. This Friday 3/23/12, from 5:30pm till 10pm, we will be running: Scenario #2-19: Shades of Ice—Part III: Keep of the Huscarl King Written by Jesse Benner. A Pathfinder Society Scenario designed for 1st to 5th level characters (Tiers: 1-2 and 4-5). Information in the Shadow Lodge headquarters in Whitethrone leads you into the Realm of the Mammoth Lords in search of an abandoned tower of a lost Ulfen king. The powerful weapon rumored to be there could be disastrous if it falls into the hands of those who plot the Pathfinder Society’s destruction; who will find it first?

I'm helping get PFS started in my local game store. I had the same reservations about reporting incorrect information, and penalizing the players. This is how I handled the situation for reporting the intro series. I just waited until all the players picked a faction. One player had his chosen when we began. The others didn’t make a final decision until the third intro module. I also had to remind them that they technically didn’t have any Fame until they picked a faction, but hey were still allowed to make basic PP purchases. The game is weekly, so 3 weeks of waiting to report all three events it isn’t a huge span of time. If the game was held 1 day a month, I’d have a bigger problem with not reporting it in a timely fashion.

You stop moving on a charge when you get within reach of the target. If you have a 5ft reach you stop in the adjacent square, if you have 10ft reach you stop 10ft away and make your attack, and so on. As for pounce you can't take 2 movement actions in a round. So you couldn't charge then pounce then 5ft step. Some abilities such as Spring Attack allow you to interrupt a move action with an attack. Pounce only gives you all your attacks at the end of a charge instead of the single attack normally allowed.

The Halfling sling staff allows you to attack with the sling or use it as a club. How would a Halfling Sling Staff be enchanted? Does it get treated as a double weapon for adding enhancements – sling portion and then club portion? Would it be treated similarly to a spear and share one set of magical enhancements for multiple combat functions?
Some of the Realm Raider guys that were running LC/LG in South Jersey will be taking over PFS at All Things Fun in West Berlin, NJ. It’s about 40 minutes from Philly. Things won’t be getting started until early January, but the events will be posted here and on the store’s calendar. From most of the interest displayed during the Beginner Box Bash, it looks like almost all the potential players will be starting at level 1-2. There is a meet & greet scheduled for 12/27/11 from 6pm-9pm to discuss how the group will be scheduling gamedays along with a general PFS Q&A. If you are interested and unable to attend, there is also a thread on the store’s forum asking about availability.
Bob Jonquet wrote: Currently, there is no plan to write/develop 13+ level scenario as far as we know. But keep in mind that prior to this blog, there was no plan to allow characters an option to level beyond 12 either. So, never say never. :-) I wasn’t referring to PFS scenarios for levels 12+. I was making reference to PFS events such as the Grand Melee from PaizoCon. Now I’m not sure if there were ever play options in the Grand Melee event for characters either newly level 12 or fully retired level 12 characters (the ones who completed the Eyes of the Ten series). If the Grand Melee did, in the past, allow level 12 characters, will similar events be adjusted to allow access for level 13+ characters in the future?
I love the idea of having a higher level cap. I feel level 10-12 is the point when the fun really starts. I am disgruntled at the idea that I was not able to plan for it. I bought items and feats that mirror class abilities granted at level 13+. Any chance of a limited rebuild upon reaching 13th level? Perhaps allowing players to add an archetype if they don’t already have one, swap one feat or selling one piece of equipment at full value. I'm not talking about a full rebuild. No changing ability scores or class levels.
The day’s events include four new, one-hour quests highlighting the Beginner Box characters and rules. No experience or supplies(dice, pencils, miniatures) are needed to participate in this free event. The Beginner Box uses a streamlined version of the rules from the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game from Paizo. Pregenerated characters will be provided to all players. The Event will take place December 11, 2011 and will begin at 12pm when the store opens. The 4 quests run for 45 to 60 minutes each. There will be a signup sheet at the store, or you can sign up by replying to this thread. Please make sure you reserve a spot to ensure that we have enough room for everyone. We will do our best to accommodate everyone who shows up. Depending on demand we may have a second wave of groups beginning at 3-4pm. All participants will have a chance to win some prizes. Those who complete all four quests will receive a special reward: a Pathfinder Society Chronicle sheet to welcome them into the Pathfinder Society (or to enhance any existing Pathfinder Society character). All Things Fun!
The Black Blade’s progression is fully charted in the Archetype. No where in the description do they detail rules for changing any of the listed stats. This includes the weapons ego score. The weapon’s ego score would change any time you added any powers to the weapon. Since the item’s ego score has a static progression based solely on the owner’s level, it would be safe to assume the Black Blade can’t be modified. Also consider the fact that weapons in general can only be made +5/+5. Eventually the weapon will be +5 and the Magus will be able to add +5 worth of abilities from their Arcane Pool. Since the class/item combo caps the maximum progression, then allowing additional modifications would be pointless. There are a few Arcana to expand the range of options for Arcane Pool abilities. Such as the one that allows you to add Holy, Ghost Touch or Brilliant Energy. If a player wanted something not currently allowed they could always ask the GM to houserule a new Arcana for that power. In a home game a GM can be free to adjust the rules as they see fit.
The most flexible Combat Maneuver for PFS would probably be Trip. Trip can be used against NPCs with equipment as well as creatures using natural attacks. The next useful would be Disarm and Sunder. They aren’t as versatile as Trip since they can’t be used on creatures that don’t use equipment. Trip and Disarm really don’t mesh well with the brutish meat shield character. Sunder is nice since it can be used to weaken the opponent. If you need to neutralize a threat without killing people breaking their weapons is a good way to go. They can’t fight without weapons. CMD doesn’t scale as quickly as an opponent’s AC. For the badguy with high AC from his gear, you can sunder his armor and shield to make it easier for the rest of the party to hit him. Depending on your party and the encounter, a downside could be bad guys that die faster than you can sunder their equipment. You are correct that in PFS sundered equipment does not affect the treasure collected at the end of a scenario. This means you are not throwing away gold every time you break stuff. Another downside is that at certain level/tier combinations you might not be able to hurt your target, since you need to have a matching or greater enchantment on your weapon to damage your target. If you have an Mw weapon and they have a +1 item your sunders will do no damage to their equipment. On a good note once you are able to get a furious weapon. Your weapon’s enhancement bonus will be 2 higher while you Rage. If you do go with a sunder build make sure to pick up Sundering Strike from APG which grants a sunder attempt on a critical hit when you have a +9 BAB.
Rangers at 6th level can opt to take Point Blank Master(Longbow) as an Archery Combat Style Feat with Weapon Focus(Longbow) as the only prerequisite. It would allow you to use the longbow in melee without provoking the AoOs for ranged combat. If you put minimal feats into melee combat until 6th level you could just focus on being a purely ranged character.
This archetype was already dicussed a lot in this thread. As the rules of Titan Mauler are written you won’t gain damage outside the range of what you would get using the wielder’s natural sized weapon. The archetype is limited by the light weapon>1hand weapon>2hand weapon>impossible to use rule. A medium character using a medium greatsword does 2d6 damage. A med character using a lg longsword does 2d6 dmg with a -2 hit(mitigated by massive weapon, and a med character using a huge short sword does 2d6 dmg with a -4 hit(mitigated by massive weapon). The best current uses for Massive Weapon for a medium wielder are a huge aklys, from ultimate combat. It is a exotic light weapon that does 1d8 dmg. Bumped to huge it would be a 2hand weapon that does 3d6. Other than that you take Exotic Weapon proficiency to make a bastard sword or dwarven waraxe one handed, and then using a large version doing 2d8 dmg. Jotungrip and Massive Weapon probably should interact differently then the current printed rules. But there haven’t been any comments from developers or a FAQ published for it yet.
SunsetPsychosis wrote:
I took note of the Aklys too, but I would assume that it's damage of 1d8 at medium size is an error that will be changed eventually.
As the rules for this archetype are written now, massive weapon would make Jotungrip mostly obsolete at level 3. The only time it would make sense is to use a 2hander one handed with a shield. You could use it to build a duel wielder, but the penalties and feat requirements would make it problematic for a pure Barbarian. Looking at Massive Weapon there is another problem. It scales to -6 at 18th level, but as it sits now you couldn’t use more than a -4 if a medium barbarian was using Huge light weapon. This reduction can’t be used to offset other melee penalties such as feats (power attack or two weapon fighting). Allowing unlimited progression is pointless, unless you could eventually wield any gargantuan weapon 2handed.
The feat Arcane Preparation can be found in Complete Arcane. It allows a spontaneous caster to prepare spells. The prepared spell holding a spot in their normal spells per day until cast. This allows the spontaneous caster to apply meta-magic feats to a spell ahead of time, and be able to cast these spells at their normal casting time. For a home campaign you can just use Complete Arcane. Since CA is a 3.5 splatbook it can not be used in Pathfinder Society play. I was looking to see if an equivalent was available that was legal for Society play, since I do not own all the books listed in Additional Resources. I have no idea why the original thread was moved to a different forum, since it isn’t a rules question. This is a question on the contents of the Additional Resources listed for Pathfinder Society Organized Play.
Mok wrote: Is there are large sized weapon that is legal for purchase? IIRC only small and medium weapons can be bought. In the Guide to Pathfinder Society Organized Play under Always Available Items. First Bullet Point lists all basic armor, gear and weapons from chapter 6 of Core Rules including small and large-sized items as available. The large items likely aimed at gearing animal companions/mounts/eidolons or weapon options for enlarged characters. Since Ranged Weapons don’t benefit from Enlarge Person. The third level ability for Titan Mauler Massive Weapons eventually removes the penalty for using an inappropriately sized weapon. At 6th level you could use a large weapon at a 0 penalty to attack, and a huge weapon at a -2 penalty. The penalty for a huge weapon would be -1 at lvl 9 and 0 at lvl 12. The -2/-1 penalty should be worth it since the base damage for the weapon is bumped by 2 steps. The rules already describe buying large weapons as always available. I was just trying to confirm that you would need the appropriate fame gp cap total to buy the huge weapon.
The problem is that in Pathfinder Society, with gold rewards being limited, it is not very easy to pick up multiple meta-magic rods to cover all your bases. With one feat you can cover every meta-magic feat you have on your spontaneous caster. This would also allow you the freedom to buy meta-magic rods covering the feats you do not possess. The feat Arcane Preparation already exists, and can be found in Complete Arcane. For a home campaign you can just use that source. Since it is a 3.5 splatbook it can not be used in Pathfinder Society play. I was looking to see if an equivalent was available that was legal for Society play, since I do not own all the books listed in Additional Resources.
In 3.5 there was a feat that allowed spontaneous casters to prepare spells. This allowed the casters to prepare spells with metamagic feats applied. The benefit would keep the shorter casting time instead of the full round spontaneous metamagic casting. Has a similar feat found its way into a Society legal sourcebook?
Thanks for the links. Reaper is usually my first stop for shopping for minis, so I know their entire line extremely well. If they don’t have it then I’ll resort to searching GW or Privateer Press. After that I try to find whatever google will dig up on the internet. This is the first time I haven’t been able to find a mini that fit my needs. The Magne mini Patrik linked is the closest fit. My only problem is the wolverine claws on the shields. Now my local game store doesn’t stock a huge selection of minis outside of Warmachine. I usually have to special order whatever reaper stuff I need. This leads to the problem of finding compatible minis and donor parts for conversions. I really don’t want $20 worth of parts to make one mini, since I can’t compare the compatibility of the parts in person. This is the first time I’ve had trouble finding/converting a mini that wasn’t 80-90% WYSIWYG. This is turning into a pain in the butt. Maybe I’ll luck out and he’ll switch character concepts before we start.
My group is about to start a new campaign in a few weeks, so I have been researching possible minis for each of the players. Finding a suitable mini for one of the characters is proving to be difficult. The player hasn’t made a final decision on race. He will most likely be human, but hasn't ruled out dwarf or half-orc. The character is a male bear totem druid/barbarian using natural bite and claw attacks. He is using leather armor or breastplate. I’m looking for something similar to Space Wolves or D&D Shifter overall look. I'd like to stick to an unpainted metal mini. The problem I’m finding is the only minis I’m finding with claws are a few vampire minis with the fangs/claws but they don’t have the proper outfits or lycanthropes.

You can't make a shield bash attack with a buckler. The only shields you can bash with are light and heavy shields.
James mentioned it wasn’t the developers to allow shield spikes and bashing to increase damage by 3 sizes. All they have to do is say they provide the same bonus, so they don’t stack. Instead you just end up taking the better of the two. Looking at keen/improved critical, lances/spirited charge, matching named bonuses to attacks and damage. There is a lot of rules comparison to back up a ruling that you can only use the better of the two improvements.
