I can wait. Remember Pat, don't game angry. Only the Pc's suffer.
In that case...
After telling the others to make for solid ground, Drivish climbs down to the ledge (at 50') and readies his halberd.
Ready Reaping Strike 1d20+8 = 28; damage = 14, and mark the creature.
Initiative = 22
Drivish whispers through gritted teeth, "Oh, good... Try to get back up."
How far down are we? If there is solid footing within 50 feet or so, Drivish makes for it, or encourages those closest to the top to get back up. Otherwise, he delays.
"If we're hammering pitons, I don't know how stealthy this is going to be. I think it's time to travel as a group."
If the others agree Drivish will volunteer to climb first, and if Qadim-sul can fly he should probably go last to watch for trouble, or at least hover right next to Rin, in case of the inevitable.
After Lafiel.
Qadim-sul wrote: "Maybe it's just me, but shouldn't ape-men be worshiping ape-gods instead of dragons?" "The evil gods will allow creatures of any race to be their slaves."
"Something's been gnawing on these bones. I think the reason the apes don't patrol these passages is that something worse guards their back door. It might be a better idea to stay together from now on."
Drivish peers cautiously around the room. "Something happened to these apes, maybe a trap?"

"Let's go check it out."
Drivish stands just as wide-eyed as the others, his attempt to sound unimpressed betrayed by his expression of overwhelmed awe.
"The temple looks like a good place to start. We should check the other tunnels for a way down."
"As far as they've said, nobody has felt the scrying in some time. And I for one, would prefer as much advance knowledge as possible. So, I vote to let Lafiel do her thing."
I'll light a sunrod today. And I'll hold it so that Lafiel can have 10 squares of shadowy light.
"Just yell if you get into trouble, Lafiel"
"The next time you do what I tell you to do, I won't be so forgiving."
"I'll stay up for first with Rin."
Drivish is at the "I could go one more fight" stage, which normally turns out poorly. If Lafiel, or anybody else, wants to take an extended rest I'm for it too.
Drivish stands and adjusts his pack. "Would you like to scout ahead, Lafiel? Or are we past any pretense of Stealth?"
Barshevy wrote: "The staff I cannot use. It's a symbol of Tiamat. And she is is no friend of Pelor, to say the least." "My people have no qualms about using an enemy's weapon against him. If the priests of Pelor created a weapon that could harness the destructive power of the sun, I'm pretty certain Tiamat's slaves would covet it."
Drivish waits patiently by the exit during the rest, actively listening for any sound of enemies.

"Don't worry, Lafiel. I'm just as weary as you, but I want to be certain we aren't sleeping on sombody's stoop."
"That figures." Drivish mutters while eyeing the the altar. "On the way back, somebody should remind me to destroy this thing. Our mission is too important to risk doing it now. Is the staff worth anything?"
Drivish then slowly tries to advance past the shadows to square H11, and looks ahead.
"What's the matter, Barshevy? Are you converting to the snake god?"
Rolf guesses at the intention of several creatures breaking off from the horde and leads the party into a valley to avoid being out-flanked.
Insight = 23; Congratulations! You've won the skill challenge!
Carved stone pillars rise out of the ground intermittantly about the valley. All are broken at some point with the tallest being no more than 7 feet tall. As you dash through the valley, still fleeing the goblinoids, you don't have time to apreciate the intricate designs on the pillars, but it becomes apparent that dragons adorn the ones you get close enough to see.
A quick look over your shoulder reveals the hills behind you crawling with goblinoids. Nearing the end of the valley and unsure how much further you can run, a figure robed and hooded in blue steps out from behind a hill. Though still a good distance away his raspy voice is clearly heard by all of you. "Nomeno arux ui ofdio ekess wer ux darastrix. Renthisj his ominak ekess unleash his skriiod."
"The shadows appear to be some sort of guardians. Barshevy, do you want to take a look in here?"
"Sorry, Qadim-sul, I thought it was your turn to get the stuffing beaten out of you, considering Fargrim and I have already left our blood on the cave floor." Then Drivish laughs, "Be careful holding the rope. I don't know if Barshevy brought any salve for ropeburns."
Drivish follows Fargrim down the hole.
Once he catches his breath, Drivish gets to work securing the rope so that we can all go down. "Who's going first?"
"I suggest we rest up top, then come back down when we're ready. We don't want to be trapped down here if any hostiles come by up there."
"Thanks people. It got to be too much, avoiding snakes and shielding against the fire. I guess I got overwhelmed."
If we use Barshevy next roll that he previously posted (9), then I'm only down 3.
Drivish stands and says "I'm good", but he doesn't shake off Fargrim's support.
Move action: stand; standard action: full defense.
Save vs. poison = 15
So, I'm using Barshevy's first roll, a 7, right?
Drivish groans and lifts his head.
Drivish takes the onslaught stoically, but finally puts up his hand to stop Rin. Unfortunately, before he can step away he falls forward.
Save = 4
Save vs. poison = 9; save vs. death = 6
I hadn't rolled a die in so long, I forgot how cruel IC can be.

"Drivish? How are you." Rin looks down cautiously, hoping he's not going to see a pile of ashes where a comrade once stood.
That sounds like it's going to hurt.
pat512 wrote: Drivish, the aura at the beginning of your turn missed; you can go again -- full defense? Yep.
"It's ok, Fargrim. I'm already here."
If I had seen the post sooner, I'd have switched, but now it doesn't seem worth it.
Drivish maintains his defensive stance.
"I can get the snakes out for you. I think I can withstand the damage. Just don't do anything debilitating."
If Rin says yes, Drivish moves closer to the wall and takes a total defense action (+2 to all defenses).
"Shh"
Drivish holds onto the rope at the bottom of the sinkhole, listening intently for any sound of distress from Lafiel.
So what's up with these biters?
Then Drivish climbs down, preparing to blast any biters with frost.
Drivish carefully lowers himself down the rope.
What do I see?
"Umm.. Technically I'd freeze them." Drivish says into his fist. "I think Rin's Scorching Burst power would be our best bet, but with the rope involved it might be easier to just throw him in. So, it's up to you, Rin. If you're not feeling it, I'll lower down, breathe, and then drop down to clear the biters out with my axe. Anyone that wants to follow would be welcome." Drivish works his halberd in demonstration of the potential battle, he seems pretty eager to do this.
"What do you say, Rin?"
"Well, we just need to drive them off without putting ourselves in too much danger."
So, DM, what would the penalties be?
Barshevy wrote: Do i have line of sight to Fargrim? I think if I can't see him, I can't heal him. He came out of the hole, so unless you went somewhere...
"Biting buggers? Is that what happened to you, because I noticed you looked a bit peaked?" Drivish thinks for a moment. "Why don't we take care of the biters first? How amny are there? I can probably breath on a few."
Does anyone else have a better area or ranged power? We could lower that person down out of their reach. If not I'll jump down and clear the way for others to follow.
"Oh, and Barshevy, can you help out Fargrim?"
"Does the tunnel go anywhere?"
"Fargrim, talk to us."
Then we'll try to get him in the tunnel.
pat512 wrote: Are you trying to just hold it for him to climb up, or trying to orient it where he asked? I'm trying to imagine the amount of strength required just to anchor an armored dwarf so that he could climb up, and I can't figure out a way to possibly swing him around. Maybe if we had a better anchor point?
Drivish takes control of the rope.
Are there any checks involved?
Drivish mutters, "Maybe Bshamut does look favorably on this endeavor." Then he yells down to Fargrim, "How deep is the hole and how accessible is the tunnel? Can you tell if the tunnel is natural or worked?"
