Calinder smiles at Barnabus' remark and says, "Well before assisting Dyfrig for a time I do not think I could have done so well. It's good to know that we have other options if Dyfrig cannot join us on our journeys. Hopefully I will continue to do as well as I am currently."

After cleaning up from breakfast, Calinder stows all his belongings and prepares to leave.

Sounds like a good plan Barnabus, and if they get out of hand, hopefully I have some things I can do to help defend ourselves.

Yes, I have pretty much started checking daily whether it says there is a new post or not. I've also seen other posts about the issue as well.

Gloisil thankful for the aid from his uncle, and the other gnomes back home, opens his eyes after a moment to see if there are any foes left to deal with.

"Everyone okay?" He manages to says after the shouts die down and he gets his wits back about himself.

"Uncle, that was some powerful blast!"

I'm going to be starting a game doing just the opposite. Pathfinder core rules and APG, then allowing some 3.5 supplements to add some additional variety.

It would be interesting to compare the two to see good/bad points of each method.

Gloisil's hp roll: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

I'll get Gloisil updated in the next few days.

Male Red headed something or other. Electronics Technician 7/Computer Programmer 8/Database Admin 5

Read through the thread after the pool. Koridur was given the sword, Gloisil tried to identify all the items. As far as I can tell, none of the other items were handed out, although Gloisil also put the necklace on and saw or received some information on the item the party is seeking.

I'm assuming that Gloisil is still possession of all the other items.

Male Red headed something or other. Electronics Technician 7/Computer Programmer 8/Database Admin 5

Here is a link the the post detailing what was found in the pool: Link to items in pool

Male Red headed something or other. Electronics Technician 7/Computer Programmer 8/Database Admin 5

I was going to say the same about Koridur, but Me'mori beat me too it. Other then that, the list looks accurate.

I can certainly play one of the NPC's without too much trouble. I'm currently playing three in the table top campaign that I am part of. My character, and two NPC's that we talked into joining our party.

Just send me the stats and everything I need to know, and I'll take a swing at it. Hopefully, I will not strike out.

(Sorry about the baseball metaphor, it's just that time of the year. Go Dodger's!)

Gloisil's second round action

Gloisil will reload his crossbow and fire at one of the remaining goblins.

Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15, Damage: 1d3 ⇒ 2

Congrats Val!

If there is a leader within 40 feet, Gloisil will target him with a scorching ray spell.

Ranged touch attack: 1d20+3, Damage: 4d6

Else, Gloisil will cast Burning Hands on another group of goblins in front of him.

I'm back, my trip was last weekend. We had an enjoyable time, thanks.

I'll be unable to post from Friday evening to sometime on Monday. If needed someone can act for Gloisil. I'd suggest to continue using the burning hands from the wand, seems to be doing an adequate job. I'll get caught up when I can.

Thanks.

There's been several books that I have had to make several attempts to get through the first part of the book that was rather slow or unimpressive to get to the best part of the book. Once I finally completed the book, I was always glad that I just didn't give up on it.

On the flip-side there has only been one book that has captured me from first line to final line in that I could put it down until I had completed it. The book was There have been others that have come close, but none that have enthralled me as much as that one book did.

I also agree a lot with what Andrew Turner said above. That how I feel about a book at the time that I am reading it is affected by many external forces that are shaping my physical/emotional state at the time that I am reading the book.

If someone would like to post actions for Gloisil for me that is fine, otherwise, I'll catch up when I'm able.

Thanks.

My group has also had a few issues like this with our mat, only it didn't sit quite that long. We found though that the hard to remove marks eventually just fade away. So if you can get the marks to be light enough to ignore for now, then eventually they may go away.

We as well also had an incident with a Sharpie and that eventually faded as well.

Desidera should be next followed by Gyldyr and then Sunset.

1) My boss who is the manager of our IT Department got me good not long after I had start working for my current company.

I had developed an irrational fear that he would leave the company and since he was the one with with the greatest knowledge of the systems that run our company, that we would be up the proverbial creek without a paddle.

He and another co-worker the night before packed all his personal things in a box and left it sitting on his chair, next to his desk. When I came in the next morning and walked by his office, the first thing I saw was the box with all his stuff in it. When I started asking questions, my co-worker convinced me that our boss had called in and said that he'd got another job and quit right then with no notice.

I was freaked out all morning until my boss came in to work.

2) Also in high school I once convinced a girl in one of my classes that I'd had all my nerves removed after she tried to pinch my arm as hard as she could, and I just sat there like nothing happened. Had her thinking that I couldn't feel a thing.

I was thinking that we would be going back towards the workrooms, continuing on past Yuri's door. I was thinking that was to the left if facing the elevator. The map Val just emailed to me shows a workroom diagonally across the hall from the elevator. I thought that this was Yuri's workroom, and then there is what looks to be another room next to the elevator to the left. That was the door that I was suggesting to check out. If I'm wrong let me know.

Armor was examined and donned, inventory was taken-- why did she smell chocolate?-- and then she settled herself on her folded bedroll as she sat for an hour, lifting the light within her to the light that she knew was outside, above their heads.

I'm reading Mothman's Whispering Cairn pbp. I started reading it because I took my game group through Age of Worms and wanted to see how another DM and group took to it.

I have to say that I was really impressed with how good of a job Mothman and his players are doing and now I follow it just because it is fun to read. I hope that they are planning on going forward, further in the AP as they are getting close to finishing the first part.

Hello,

I would also like to apply for a spot in your upcoming Kingmaker AP PbP. I reside in the Mountain time zone (GMT -7) and can post at least once a day.

Here is my character concept:

Calinder Surital:
Name: Calinder Surital
Alignment: CG
Class: Cleric of Erastil
Gender: Male
Race: Half-elf

Calinder, orphaned when he was young and left at the at the temple of Erastil in Rostland where he lived with his mother until her death. He was raised by his elven mother Katrine having never know his human father. He now, later in life has only fleeting memories of his mother, and his life before living in the temple of Erastil. He was then trained as a priest of Erastil when he was old enough and had expressed a desire to join the Order of Erastil.

Having been taught the history of the Order of Erastil in this area of Golarian as part of his training, Calinder expressed a desire to go into the Stolen Lands, and try to return the orders teachings to the area. And at this time just as he finishes his initial training an opportunity has arisen. He hopes to obtain one of the charters now being offered, and joining with one of the band of adventurers being sent out. Erastil having once had shrines and temples in the now disputed lands, Calinder's hope is to find them and bring them back to their former glory, while providing for the spiritual welfare of those that come to make a new home in these lands.

Moff,

Sorry to kind of take the current conversation on a tangent, but I would like to know why you think that the Book of Mormon doesn't "give glory to God"?

I don't have all my "stuff" here at work. So I'm going off memory right now but...

(I just looked up the story.)

The brass plates were held by a bad man. There is a lot of "The Lord said to me" (doesn't always say how -- often in dream, but it's never said what the dream was -- which is a significant difference with the Old Testament). But there really isn't that much that actually gives glory to God. There is a lot of "we must obey his commandments" but apparently that doesn't include the "thou shalt not murder". But even aside from that, I couldn't find anything that actually brought glory to God. Even to the point where Nephi continued deceiving other Hebrews. All this over something that was apparently excedingly important -- but we're never told why it was. (It was a geneology list for the most part. Actually, there are a couple different places where it says what it is and it differs -- but not why it's important.) The Ark of the Covenant was important for many ceremonies and services and was part of the "Holy of Holies". So I'm not sure how murdering a helpless man (evil though he might have been) over something that had a list of names on it is supposed to give glory to God. As near as I can tell it is a story about God commanding something, it happening, and life goes on.

Compared to David having the opportunity (a number of times) to kill Saul -- and he was certainly in his right -- this story just doesn't fit. The closest thing that I can come up with is the story of Jael in the book of Judges. But in that story, God never told Jael to kill the "bad king". Also, the last verse in the chapter essentially said that God was the one responsible, and how His glory was realized.

I'd have to get my stuff to figure out where the democracy stuff is and the information about flags and so...

The reason that the brass plates were important to Lehi and his family are that they were essentially the "scriptures" of their day. They did contain a genealogical record as do many of the books of the Old Testament. The brass plates also contained the Law of Moses and many of the writings of the prophets of the Old Testament up to about the Book of Isaiah.

They were important to Lehi and Nephi in the fact that it would enable them to remember the Law of Moses and the commandments as they had been given to the prophets. Thus they could teach their children and not forget the Lord.

In the Book of Mormon the Lord speaks to people in a variety of ways. Through dreams, by feelings and impressions, by hearing just his voice, whether just in the mind or heart, or an audible voice, by angels, and the Lord Himself appeared to the descendants of Lehi after his resurrection.

I have to ask, have you actually read the Book of Mormon? Because it sounds as if you've only read a summary of it, and depending on the summary and who wrote it, it may not be all that accurate. I would ask that you only pass judgment on it after having actually read the book.

In fact the the last prophet to write in the Book of Mormon makes the very same request. That if you really want to know the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon, that you read it, and then sincerely pray to know if it is true and you will receive an answer.

Moff Rimmer wrote:

Moff,

Sorry to kind of take the current conversation on a tangent, but I would like to know why you think that the Book of Mormon doesn't "give glory to God"?

I certainly see in my reading of the Book of Mormon, that it is most certainly another testament of Jesus Christ and His sacrifice to save us from death and our sins. It does contain some historical writings about Lehi and his descendants, but by far the main point of the Book of Mormon is that the Lord, Jesus Christ is our Savior.

Moff Rimmer wrote:
I can try it again, but the truth is that God isn't mentioned quite as much as you might think it should be.

I think that if you even just read 1 Nephi Chapter 1, that you'll find that this is not the case, and certainly if you read the whole Book of Mormon, you'll find that it does give glory to God.

I would make the same suggestion in regards to reading the Book of Mormon that you asked of CourtFool in reading the Bible, that you read it with the intent of looking for God, and not just approaching it as a work of fiction or a historical document.

Well thanks for "listening" to me ramble on. Have a good day.

Well I got the new cleric in town mostly worked out except for his background information.

He is Roran, dwarf cleric of Torag.

I tried to get him balanced between being able to handle undead, standing on the front line, and doing some healing. We'll see how it goes.

Anyway, I'm pretty much ready, just need to create a new alias and I'll try and get that done by tomorrow. (Today I mean, I just noticed what time it is. Ouch, getting up tomorrow will be fun, not!)

Male Red headed something or other. Electronics Technician 7/Computer Programmer 8/Database Admin 5

Hello all. I'm a friend of Relayer's and will be running the new cleric.

I'll try and get the character wrapped up in the next day or two. We could do some of the introduction role playing while I work on it. I'll get a character outline to Relayer asap.

Of course if Relayer hears back from Jane and she wants to get back into the pbp, then I'd be happy to step aside or just be a second cleric in the party.

I'm thinking of running a dwarven cleric. A fighting cleric type that can fill in on the front lines when needed.

Lindisty,

I tried to respond to your post earlier, but it looks as if the post monster ate it.

Within the LDS church there is an organization just for women, and it is considered just as important as any other organization in the church. Yes, women are not allowed to hold the priesthood in the church, but you do not have to hold the priesthood to serve in many callings in the church. In fact my daughter is speaking in church today before the whole congregation, just wish I could have been there to listen to her speak. My daughter is also in the presidency of her young woman's group. And my wife has two callings in the church. Because we have no paid ministry everyone helps out.

Are we without our problems, no. Do we have some errors in our past, yes. But that is because the church is populated by imperfect human beings trying their best that they know how to be better people.

And I feel the same way. I would like nothing better than for everyone to live in peace together despite our difference. I believe that it will happen one day, but unfortunately, that day is not today.

Lindisty wrote:

Lindisty,

Well let me try again, hopefully I'll do better than I did in my last attempt, as it is obvious that I rolled a natural 1. :-)

The LDS church has an internal organization just for women, and it is considered just as important as any other organization in the church. Yes, it is true that women don't hold the Priesthood in the LDS church, but you don't have to have the priesthood to serve in the church. In fact my daughter spoke in church today before the whole congregation. I wish I could have been there to listen, but I'm stuck at home recovering from surgery.

It has really been an eye opener today to sit and realize how many people I have met, both online and in person that have had such difficult lives. I've spent much of the day wishing that everyone's lives could been better then what they were. And it has also made me realize how thankful for my life I should be. Although I have my trials, I now know that my life has been pretty easy.

I hope that answers your questions.

Paul, Samnell, Jeremy and anyone else I may have offended:

I am truly sorry if my last remark caused offense. It is entirely for this reason that I stay away from these types of discussions. I am a very simple person in a lot of ways and even though I have my own problems, I have been very blessed with a happy and peaceful life. I know for a surety that a lot of that peace comes from being a member of the LDS faith.

Please believe me when I say that I wish for you that kind of peace in your lives. I would like nothing more then there to peace and friendship amongst us all.

My previous remark was meant to be self derogatory and to point out how inadequate I feel in discussing issues such as this. I know nothing of your lives and what you've been through, other than what Jeremy has posted about himself. Our lives have all been very different and I guess I just can't grasp what it would be like to walk in your shoes.

Well got to go, again I'm very sorry.

Samnell wrote:

Stuff ...

That's the pain of living, isn't it? We will always find others who disagree with us. There will always be social conflicts. Any engaged person will develop opinions, and those will not be the same as others, even those of friends. Certainly one does not want to choose between one's friends and one's principles, though sometimes that choice would be far harder than others.

I'm a big fan of the traditional family. I grew up in one, though. I may be biased. One mother, one father, differing genitals between them, happily married these thirty-four years come December. More power to 'em. I wouldn't want to do anything that would hurt their relationship. It's healthy and happy. They enjoy all the benefits of marriage and I would not take a one away.

But what about the traditional family is imperiled? I think that people that want the traditional family should be welcome to it. I wish them long, healthy, and happy relationships with all the many benefits thereof just as I wish the same to those who desire non-traditional families. I mean, why not? Some will be happy. Some will not. Some will make it work. Some will give it up. That'll be true whatever the distribution of genitals is. Some of us will make mistakes. Some of us will get it right the first time. Some will outgrow each other or change so they're no longer compatible. Others will be together for life. People are people.

Or did you mean to say you have faith in the compulsory, exclusive traditional family and all others need not apply?

Yes, you can always find someone that will disagree with your opinion. For example, I have a co-worker that I love to debate the merits of a flat tax system vs. our current tax system. He just can't understand why I would give up all the deductions and tax breaks that I get. The thing is that I love the simplicity of having my a set percentage of my income automatically deducted and I just never see it or have to worry about it.

But getting back the subject at hand. I just feel like I can't discuss my opinions on this with out sounding like a bigoted idiot. In a nutshell, I believe that people are free to choose for themselves in this life, but that some of choices we make in this life will not be acceptable in the next life.

And with that, I've pushed that border about as far as I feel comfortable.

Except, in my opinion, Prop 8.

Sorry, I can't discuss this one, too many internal conflicts. I have friends on one side of the issue, and my faith in the traditional family on the other. It's just not subject I can cover very well. Plus, since I don't live in California anymore, I was rather detached from the whole thing.

That was changed in September 1978, when in an official declaration made by Spencer W. Kimball, then president of the church, announced that all worthy male members of the church were eligible to hold the priesthood.

You can read the declaration for yourself here if you would like.

Among any group you can always find a 'bad apple' if you look hard enough. Thankfully that is the exception to the rule. I'll admit that I'm not always the best person I should be. It's a struggle everyday to do what is right. And being a red head have a bit of a temper, although I have a pretty slow fuse. :-)

Also, are you related to Steve Greer? The last name + religious leanings made me wonder.

John, look at page 195 of the "Core Rules". Look at the section that talks about cover. It describe how to determine if a target has cover from an attacker, and describes how to do that for both melee and range.

What I believe Ammian's intent is, was to stand in the square in front of the door, but outside the room. He was then going to let the skeletons come to him, hence only three being in front of him. Now with a melee attack Ammian can only hit the skeleton directly in front of him in the doorway. The skeletons on either side of the door inside the room cannot be hit by Ammian, and they cannot hit him.

At least that is how I read the rules, but the final say is yours. Good luck everyone.

Luckily, there were no Mormons to feel bashed a page or two back.

There was at least one, me. It's been an interesting discussion to follow and brought out a whole range of emotions out in me. In the end, every time I felt like posting a rebuttal to something that was said, I realized that I was being too emotional at the moment and would probably cause more harm then good, and so I held back. I learned a long time ago that you can't 'argue' religion.

I also feel that religion cannot be 'proved'. To me it is strictly a matter of faith and belief. If you believe in a religion, that is okay by me. It is also okay with me if you don't, but I'm pretty easy going that way.

We all have the freedom to choose for ourselves. I can't force anyone to be LDS anymore then anyone could force me to give up my belief in the LDS church. We all choose for ourselves, I made the choice to join the LDS church when I was ten years old and I'm glad that I made that choice.

Well ... I better sign off before I start preaching and trying to convert everyone, just kidding. ;-) Have a good afternoon.

Not much I can do with him at this point, but he has more hit points then I do and can at least help me to do spot and listen checks. Please let me know what you think. Thanks.

I also forgot to add some bonuses to my last attack for Gloisil. Not that the bonuses to my attack roll will make any difference since I hit anyway, but I may have done more damage.

I don't ever recall seeing a post from Sunset on what the bonuses from her Inspire Courage are. From the rules it looks to be +1 to attack, damage, and fear saves, but I don't know if she has any bonuses that would increase that. So, I at least should have done one more point of damage.

In the interest of trying to end the lull in the middle of our battle, I thought I'd throw a post out on the discussion thread. Besides, it had disappeared from the list, so this will get us back up near the top for a bit.

Are we waiting for someone in particular? Should we go ahead and start round 4? Just getting a little antsy, I hate cliffhangers.

I see. Thanks you both! The link Doug sent was very helpful in answering my question, especially the section about the Apostasy. I found it interesting that it cited Luther and Calvin as "inspired." The idea that other religions contain truth, but not the entire truth, resonates well with me. My own belief structure (which I'll call Reformed Christianity for specificity's sake, since LDS considers itself Christianity) claims to teach the truth insofar as it pertains to its primary subject matter, the relationship between man and God, and admits silence on many other matters. That allows a lot of room for other religions/worldviews/science/what have you to make non-contradictory truth claims.

Charlie, I guess it's my turn for a "Wall of text".

I'm glad that you found the information in the link useful. We (members of the LDS faith) believe that many people including Luther, Calvin, the founders of the USA, contributed to allowing the condition to be right, to cause Joseph Smith to ask the question, which of the churches at the time taught all the truths of Christ gospel. The answer of course that he received, is that none had the complete truth and that it was to be restored through him.

I don't know how much of what you read on the link I provided earlier, but if you read past the section on the Restoration then I think that other areas on the site may answer some of your follow-up questions. If you don't mind, I'll provide some links to other pages on that site that may help answer some of your questions.

Followup question: What does LDS teach about non-LDS Christians?

In the early days of the LDS church, Joseph Smith wrote the Articles of Faith as a basic statement of what the church members believe. The 11th Article of Faith is as follows.

11th Article of Faith wrote:
11. We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.

If you would like to read all thirteen, you can find them here.

Does LDS consider itself the true Christianity, and everything else is not?

I dislike it when members of the LDS church say that it is the only "true" church, especially when comparing it to the other Christian churches. As I have said before, the other Christian churches has some of the truth, but not the complete truth. I made the same mistake myself when I was younger and had first joined the church (I'm a convert to the church). I feel that a much better way to state it is, that we, as members of the LDS faith have the fullness of Christ's gospel as it was restore to Joseph Smith. We also have the Priesthood authority to perform the ordinances necessary for our eternal salvation. The fourth Article of Faith discusses the first ordinances and principles of the gospel.

You may think that my statement is just arguing semantics, but I feel that telling people that what they believe in is not the truth doesn't invite the proper spirit in to the discussion and causes contention.

After death, what becomes of, say, Lutherans? Is it required to follow LDS teachings in order to be saved (I recognize we may have different beliefs about what salvation is and entails; here I mean a good eternal outcome instead of a bad eternal outcome)? Is it possible for non-LDS Christians to be saved?

To answer this for the most part, I'll give you another link. If you will go here, and read the whole section "Heavenly Father's Plan of Happiness", in particular the pages starting at "Life After Death" and going through "Heaven and Eternal Reward".

I think that those web pages will answer your questions.

We believe that Christ's atonement did two things for us. First, it saves everyone born on this earth from death. Meaning that after we die, our spirits will be rejoined with our mortal bodies, that have been made perfect and we will live eternally in that perfected physical state. This is given to all who have lived on this earth regardless of how you lived your life.

Second, is that Christ atoned for our sins. Although Christ has already done this for us we still have to work for this one somewhat. We have to live the commandments and try to be like Christ, as close as we can in our mortal state. When we fall short, we can use the principle of repentance, to gain forgiveness for our sins and thereby come closer to Christ. If we die unrepentant of what we have done wrong, then we must pay for those sins in the afterlife.

Again, I hope that the information that I am providing to you is helping to answer your questions.

My apologies on the lack of updates. I've still been meaning to get this off the ground, but I haven't had a lot of time to plan things out. Military Deployment being what it is, we may have to postpone this until a later date. Those of you who are still interested, hang on to your characters for a bit until I get things straightened out on my end; Might be a month, might be until the end of the year, I'm not 100% sure yet, but I'm not going to drop this like a hot plate quite yet. I'd like to at least try and get this thing going. Once things are settled on my end, I'll make sure to email you folks.

Thanks for the update DKC. I'll just keep one eye on this thread, and another on my email and wait patiently. Osuini will just hang out in town getting ready for whatever adventure may be coming his way.
