While Douena is pleased again not to have tons of rock over her head blocking her connection to Desna, she doesn't look enthusiastic about the plains. "What does M'neri mean?" she questions Shokambe. "'Lots of nothing?' It'll be like being on the Jenivere all over again, only with waves of grass instead of water."

How tall is this grass? Over Douena's head?

(Female Gnome Cleric 2/ Rogue (burglar) 2)

Douena grabs the chalk with a grin and hurries back to the mine's entrance. She looks around for a surface she can write on, maybe the side of one of the dilapidated buildings that's somewhat sheltered from the elements. "Mahjik, pick me up so I can reach the tall part," she demands. With Shokambe's chalk, she draws a stick figure of a happy woman that might vaguely resemble Athyra. Just to make sure, she adds a happy dinosaur by her side, with several arrows pointing toward the hole in the hillside from their smiling faces. Upon consideration, she adds several large butterflies as well, each of them also sporting a wide smile, and then draws a bouquet of flowers in Athyra's hand. The last thing, among the butterflies, she adds her own arcane mark. "There," she says with satisfaction giving the worn-down nub of chalk back to the guide. "Sasha, put the salt and the piece of orb under the picture."

Is drawing a profession or a performance? 1d20 ⇒ 15 +2 if Wis, +3 if Cha

(Female Gnome Cleric 2/ Rogue (burglar) 2)

"Does anyone have any chalk?" Douena asks. "Or we could burn a stick so we could draw on the rock with it. We'll leave her a picture!"

(Female Gnome Cleric 2/ Rogue (burglar) 2)

"Wait," Douena says. "Shouldn't we leave some kind of sign for the woman with the dinosaur? Athyra? To let her know we did what we said and it's safe now?"

(Female Gnome Cleric 2/ Rogue (burglar) 2)

Douena checks the doors to see if they appear to be locked or trapped. Take 10 on Perception = 21

(Female Gnome Cleric 2/ Rogue (burglar) 2)

Douena scoffs. "Really? What are you going to spend it on way out here? It might have come in handy back in Eleder. And I don't want a salt mine, either." Disappointed in the key, she hands it back to Sasha.

That's 15 pounds of coins to lug through the jungle and no hope of spending it unless we end up back in Eleder. :P

(Female Gnome Cleric 2/ Rogue (burglar) 2)

"Ooh, a key!" Douena snatches it from Sasha excitedly. "I like keys. They open things. We'll have to see if we can find the lock it goes to." Douena puts the chain around her neck before asking Desna to consign the departed wights to a more restful existence. "I hope she can hear me all right in here," she sighs when she's done. "Maybe we should have buried them outside."

(Female Gnome Cleric 2/ Rogue (burglar) 2)

"Aw, poor evil undead thing," Douena remarks upon witnessing the wight's final gesture to cling to unlife, her sympathy as usual arousing once the immediate threat is over. "I'll preach you a nice funeral. He wasn't Mwangi. What deity do the Sargavans tend to worship, Jask?" She turns to look at the blue orb, still glowing coldly. "Do you think it's safe to walk up and smash it, or should we sit back here and throw rocks at it just in case?"

(Female Gnome Cleric 2/ Rogue (burglar) 2)

Douena continues to look on helplessly.

Delay.

(Female Gnome Cleric 2/ Rogue (burglar) 2)

Douena dashes past the fallen wight on the shoreline and onto the bridge to get a better view but still finds herself unable to contribute to the fight.

Double move to Y 63

I'm not aware that Acrobatics can let you do that. There's no mention of it in the Acrobatics skill description or the section on difficult terrain (and remember, each full square of water counts as x4 movement). However, I realize now that Douena was referencing a similar ability up above (but just didn't need to use it). Is there an aspect of the Acrobatics skill that I'm missing somewhere?

No, I was just referring to whether the shore was slippery like it was around the first corner where we needed Acrobatics checks to make any headway or had to go half-speed. Acrobatics shouldn't apply in water. Wading through deep water is a question of pushing through with Strength, not being nimble enough to dodge the water molecules. :)

"Sasha!" Douena calls out in alarm. "Be careful! That weapon won't just hurt you; it will drain your life energy as well. Lorenz, forget the orb for now and stop the wight!" She moves down the narrow dry walkway along the edge of the water carefully and pats Pezock on the back. "Hurry and finish this one, Pezock, so you can go help Sasha with the other one."

Move to AB 58; Bit of Luck on Pezock

Don't know if an Acrobatics check is required here to move at more than half-speed, but she only needs to go 15 feet anyway.

(Female Gnome Cleric 2/ Rogue (burglar) 2)

There's a map 7 posts up. Anyone who hasn't said they're moving is still where they were at the time. :)

Douena isn't at all sure that shooting arrows at a magical orb of negative energy is a good idea, but as it's too late to stop him, she watches what will happen with Lorenz's arrows with interest.

(Female Gnome Cleric 2/ Rogue (burglar) 2)

"We can't kill them as long as they're inside it. Or, you know, un-undead them. The negative energy will heal them. If Lorenz could shoot fast enough, that might work eventually, but he's liable to run out of arrows." She glances back at the glowing orb. "More important than putting the wights to rest, how do we shut that thing off? As long as it's in here, it's going to keep killing anyone who wanders in. Anyone have any ideas?"

(Female Gnome Cleric 2/ Rogue (burglar) 2)

Navior wrote:
Mahjik moves towards the strange equipment in the northeast while Douena moves to the southeast (Pezock follows her), each taking one of the two light sources and leaving the rest of the party with very little light. :)

Hey, they've all got their magic Pathfinder lights that everyone thinks are so cool! ;P

Douena tries to figure out what the blue orb could be and how safely to shut it down. Knowledge (religion) 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11 She uses her message ability to contact Jask.

Jask:
"Jask, the blue orb is down here. Come take a look and see if you can figure out how to turn it off. Oh, and there's more wights, too."

She grabs hold of Pezock's hand. "Listen, Pezock! This is important! We don't know how that thing works or how close it's safe to get to it. You don't want to be a wight. So stay away from the orb, and let the undead come to us if they're going to."

(Female Gnome Cleric 2/ Rogue (burglar) 2)

Starknife retrieved and Pezock healed, Douena tries to get a glimpse at whatever everyone's looking at over in the corner, but she'd have either to swim or to backtrack to the first bridge to get over there. "The banging on the ceiling ought to have summoned all of them in the area, so there shouldn't be any more of them waiting around to jump out at us. Let's go down this way and see how far it goes; then I can say a funeral for the rest of the wights." She points to the southeast passage, where she can walk along the edge and maybe come back on the other side. Asking Pezock to retrieve her light stone, she carries it down toward the bend in the tunnel to see what's around the corner.

Move to AA 55; she'll toss the stone out into the water again if she can't see the far wall once she gets there.

(Female Gnome Cleric 2/ Rogue (burglar) 2)

Douena takes the opportunity of taking her starknife from Pezock to take a better look at the place where he lost feathers from the wight's attack. "How are you feeling, Pezock?" she asks anxiously. "Drink some water; I'll fill your waterskin back up when you're done."

(Female Gnome Cleric 2/ Rogue (burglar) 2)

Already wet from Makoa's create water. But there's an easier way to get it than a Swim check...

"Pezock!" she calls, pointing into the water. "Can you get my starknife?"

He's wet, too, and he can wade. Assuming it's no deeper there than the rest of the mine. :)

How many people took Con damage, and how much? Pezock and Makoa, iirc.

(Female Gnome Cleric 2/ Rogue (burglar) 2)

"My starknife!" Douena yelps, rushing down the edge of the water and lighting up another stone from her pocket. When she gets close to where she thinks the weapon fell, she tosses it in and looks anxiously for its shape or the glimmer of its jewels beneath the surface. Perception 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28

(Female Gnome Cleric 2/ Rogue (burglar) 2)

Douena hops agitatedly at the edge of the water, eyeing its depths. "I can't get over there!" she complains loudly over the echoing din. Glaring up at the wight pounding on the ceiling, she flings her starknife at it to try to silence it or at least knock it down. Unused to throwing the heavy cold iron weapon, however, she miscalculates badly and her gift from Desna veers off wildly and splashes into the water some distance down the tunnel.

Throw starknife 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8 Damage 1d3 - 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (3) - 1 + (2) = 4

(Female Gnome Cleric 2/ Rogue (burglar) 2)

As the others charge around the corner of the rocky spur, Douena scurries across the bridge to follow them. "Pezock!" she shouts, when she sees the feathers in the water. "Get away from that thing!"

Move to W 52. How deep is the water where Pezock and Makoa are standing? I don't think Douena can wade; she's only three feet tall herself.

(Female Gnome Cleric 2/ Rogue (burglar) 2)

"I can't see what's going on!" Douena shouts. "What's all that banging?"

Douena will delay until the shore on the other side of the bridge clears out a bit so she has somewhere to go.

(Female Gnome Cleric 2/ Rogue (burglar) 2)

Wrong avatar, Makoa. :) Navior, how high is the ceiling in here?

(Female Gnome Cleric 2/ Rogue (burglar) 2)

Douena clucks her tongue in annoyance and glances over at the group on the far side of the water to make sure Mahjik still has his torch out for light. "This side looks like it bends back this way a little," she calls quietly across the pool, her voice easily carrying in the echoing cavern. "It could just be a loop that comes back out here." She points to the rocky spur to her east. Taking out another stone, she makes it glow, and the shimmering reflections on the ceiling fade as the one underwater releases its magic. "Toss it down there, Pezock," she tells the tengu, handing him the stone and gesturing to the southeast. "Sasha, move up a little farther and see if you can see any light coming around the corner."

Trying to put a light near the southern bend and see if it's visible from the "middle" passage to verify if the two meet up.

(Female Gnome Cleric 2/ Rogue (burglar) 2)

"I wasn't already wet," she protests, albeit laughingly. "Ow, laughing makes my face hurt," she complains. "And you almost drowned Sir Ralph," she points out, as the chameleon emerges crossly from her dripping pocket. She considers the slain wights for a moment. "Athyra said to return them to the earth, but they've been so thirsty for so long, it seems kinder to bury them at sea. Or at pond, at any rate. They'll still be underground," she points out, glancing up at the rock above her head. "Push them back under the water, and I'll say a funeral for them. Oh, and we need to decide which way to go: the narrow way or the wider way."

(Female Gnome Cleric 2/ Rogue (burglar) 2)

Douena conjures 2 gallons of water over Makoa's head with a grin. "What?" she asks innocently. "It's medicinal."

(Female Gnome Cleric 2/ Rogue (burglar) 2)

Lorenz Aeryson wrote:
"What are these things, anyway?"

"They're salt wights," Douena repeats impatiently. "I said that. They're made when a person dies from getting all dried out and their husk keeps walking the world trying to satisfy its unquenchable thirst." She punctuates the explanation by taking another drink from her waterskin. "They reproduce really quickly; it's not like ghoul fever where you have a couple of days to get treated. You can go from fighting one to being one in a matter of seconds." She shudders at her own proximity to that fate. "So it would make sense that whatever happened in the mine was so fast and catastrophic instead of drawn out like an epidemic. But what the blue orb was that started the whole thing, I don't know. Whatever it is, if it's still down here, we have to destroy it." She squeezes past Jask out of the alcove and onto the end of the bridge, lights up another stone as the one in the water beneath her goes out, and tosses it ahead into the center of the pool, both to light up more of the cavern ahead and judge the depth of the water.

Move to X 43; toss lighted stone to W 47-48ish or so

(Female Gnome Cleric 2/ Rogue (burglar) 2)

"Sasha!" Douena calls, stepping over the the fallen wight. "Are you all right?" Now that she's no longer fighting for her life, her sympathy for the people the undead once were is reawakened. "Poor things," she says, glancing down at the dessicated husks. "They were probably some of the miners, or some unfortunate people who stumbled in here afterwards. Like the log book said, it would have been very quick. They're desperately thirsty so they draw the water out of living creatures' bodies, but it doesn't satisfy their thirst and when a person gets all dried out ... they join them, right away." She touches the dry skin on the side of her face and retrieves her waterskin for a drink. "Jask," she says, "I can't see my own face. Will it get better?"

I'm assuming this is ability damage that will come back with rest? Makoa and I both only took 1 point of Con damage, so there's no mechanical penalty yet.

(Female Gnome Cleric 2/ Rogue (burglar) 2)

"Pezock!" she squeals excitedly as the tengu is revealed by the toppling salt wight. "Did you see that!? I slayed it! Ow," she moans, as her smile pulls at her dry skin, "my face hurts."

(Female Gnome Cleric 2/ Rogue (burglar) 2)

Douena sees the approaching legs of her friends behind the salt wight with a sense of relief. "I think I'm claustrophobic!" she shouts to them. "Or Desna is! Either way, I don't think we should go into any more caves!" She remembers the starknife Desna hid for her back on the Shiv, draws it, and stabs at the wight.

Seriously?!?

(Female Gnome Cleric 2/ Rogue (burglar) 2)

Douena cries out in pain, which only makes the dry patch of skin on the side of her face pull and crack. "They're salt wights," she calls out, trying not to move her mouth too much. "They'll pull all the water out of you if they can. You live in a pool!" she tells the menacing creatures angrily. "There's more water under that bridge than there is in me!" Presenting her butterfly with an anxious glance at the rock ceiling above her, she pleads, "Desna, help!" before withdrawing further into the alcove.

Channel Positive Energy Will DC 14 1d6 ⇒ 1; 5-foot-step to Z 42

Well, I saved you the trouble of rolling a Will save, Navior. :P Be sure to add a hit point back to Sasha. I'm hoping only one of them can get to her back in her corner. Does she count as squeezing in that square?

(Female Gnome Cleric 2/ Rogue (burglar) 2)

Douena shakes her head across the water at Sasha. "Lots of different ways to go," she murmurs. "But the reflections out of the water are pretty." Turning and waving the rest of the group forward, she continues around the corner into the next chamber, admiring the shimmering ripples reflected onto the ceiling.

Move her at least down to the end of the bridge, assuming nothing jumps out at her.

(Female Gnome Cleric 2/ Rogue (burglar) 2)

Douena picks up her stone and tosses it into the water near the bridge. If there are more oozes, it'll just shine through their clear forms, but if there are undead of some sort under the water, she hopes to reveal the shadows of their bodies before she and Sasha move into the next chamber.

(Female Gnome Cleric 2/ Rogue (burglar) 2)

Assume I can find small rocks lying around for Douena to light up, DM?

Douena picks up some small stones, sets one alight, and drops the others in her pocket for later. She sidles past the others quietly, watching the water for telltale ripples, and edges up to the curve in the passageway. With a nod across the water at Sasha, she tosses her lighted stone just around the curve so Sasha can get a glimpse of what lies ahead from the other side of the pool.

Take 10 on Stealth = 24; take 10 on Acrobatics (looks like that walkway gets narrow) = 20; drop stone in W 38

(Female Gnome Cleric 2/ Rogue (burglar) 2)

"Don't get too far ahead, Sasha," Douena whispers across the water loudly. "If there are more of those things, they're hard to spot, but they can tell where we are in complete darkness, even without eyes." She scowls back at Lorenz. "What are you doing, letting her run way out ahead into danger when she might be sick?"

(Female Gnome Cleric 2/ Rogue (burglar) 2)

"Do you think this whole mine is flooded?" Douena asks anxiously. "If the top of it is underwater, the bottom must be too, right? How can we get through it?"

(Female Gnome Cleric 2/ Rogue (burglar) 2)

(Female Gnome Cleric 2/ Rogue (burglar) 2)

"What fun would it be if it were?" Douena replies. "Think how boring it would be if we just walked and walked and walked and never ran into anything interesting until we got to where we're going."

(Female Gnome Cleric 2/ Rogue (burglar) 2)

Unfazed by Pezock's frustration, Douena is pleased to see him regain his mobility. "Apparently they're like ghouls," she tells the others. "Remember the ghouls under the lighthouse? I wonder if they're some kind of undead ooze. C'mon, Pezock; Mahjik and Makoa, you too. Anyone else hurt? We're close enough to the entrance; we should go back out there before I try to get Desna's attention. She didn't like it last time I was underground." Retreating to the cave entrance with anyone who was hurt by the oozes, Douena presents her butterfly with an anxious glance up at the open sky. Channel Positive Energy 1d6 ⇒ 6 "See?" she asks with satisfaction. "It works better without rock over my head."

(Female Gnome Cleric 2/ Rogue (burglar) 2)

"Pezock! Pezock!" Douena continues to try to shake the tengu out of whatever state he's in.

(Female Gnome Cleric 2/ Rogue (burglar) 2)

"Pezock, what's wrong? Are you all right?" Douena continues to tug at the tengu's elbow.

Delay. These things are easy enough to hit (though hard to kill) and don't seem to be doing more damage to him atm; I don't want to use up all her Bits of Luck in the first room of the dungeon. :P

(Female Gnome Cleric 2/ Rogue (burglar) 2)

Douena dashes around Lorenz's and Shokambe's legs to get a better view of what's going on. "Pezock!" she cries in alarm when she sees the tengu partially enveloped by the ooze. "They're crystal oozes. They live in the water, and they can see in the dark," she explains needlessly. "Ishirou, get it off of him!" She reaches out and infuses the Tian with a bit of luck.

"Don't touch anything," Douena calls after him. "Use your sword, or an arrow, like Makoa did."

(Female Gnome Cleric 2/ Rogue (burglar) 2)

"Oh, the Pathfinders," Douena sniffs dismissively, her face growing cold when the group's name is mentioned. "I suppose they would be the kind to find dozens of people dying horribly very interesting. Seems to me the pages would be of more interest to the families of the innocent men who died because the owner was greedy." At any rate, she seems to have lost interest in the book and leaves Makoa to deal with it, trotting over to join Pezock looking into the mine entrance.

(Female Gnome Cleric 2/ Rogue (burglar) 2)

Knowledge (religion) 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16 Probably not enough to identify the orb or the variety of the undead from what description the book provides. Sounds like something other than the plain vanilla variants.

"Can you burn it without touching it, Makoa?" she asks. "Is there anything else in here with green haze on it?" She peers into the shack without touching anything. Take 10 on Perception = 21

(Female Gnome Cleric 2/ Rogue (burglar) 2)

Douena pats Sasha's knee comfortingly, but her gaze back at the redhead is worried as she returns to Makoa. "See if the book says anything interesting, and then we'll burn it so it can't infect anyone else," she advises, staying well away from the pages he is turning with his dagger blade.
