Wasn't there talk of a June release for this set? I thought it was going to coincide with the hardback release roughly. Guess I will wait till August to start RotRL for my group. So far I am liking what I am seeing from the line though, and Holy Cow the rune giant looks Awesome! :)
I would just like to say I am very pleased to see the players take on the roles of pathfinders. I have gotten to play very few PFS scenarios. Most my players even less. I look forward to this AP. I am going to run my group through RotRL when the anniversary edition hits, and plan on following up with this AP, so I do have a bit of time before we give this a go. Sigh so many good AP's so little time. :D tough problem to have. Well I got my case yesterday. I will post my numbers later( sorry they won't be brick by brick because I honestly would not be able to remember, but will keep that in mind for runelords). I did get a complete set. Yea!
Any updates on date as it now shows early January as expected release date? I would hate to have it jump back to early December or even mid December if I have spent my mini money on extra goodies for friends and family for Christmas. I know you guys are doing your best, but if you guys could confirm not before the holidays it would be great to know. Looking forward to my minis. I may have missed this in the FAQ, but will it be easy to adjust your sub orders between sets? As example say the rise of the runelords set needs 2 cases to complete (for the most part), can I adjust my sub to reflect the extra case and switch it back to 1 case for the next set if it only needs 1 case to complete? Just as a side note for all those folks clammering for commoner minis reaper has some great ones is their town folk sets. I know they aren't pre painted plastics. There are some great sculpts though and reasonably priced. Here :D Kaeyoss I defiantly knew you were kidding around as soon as I saw your post. Please forgive my use of mmo jargon as it was nearly 2am and at the end of a long day.
I have been reading the thread from the beginning and I appreciate your speculations and observations. I was hoping that as Vic has said there are WizKids folks paying attention to this thread. I do not expect to see every mini in the line, but I would like a general list of the line. Yes, I am sure that we will see mostly bestiary 1 mobs and an assortment of hero's that could stand in multiple roles. For me the cost of a case is a big investment of my gaming dollars. I am one of those people who like to have a general idea of what I'm in for at least. I enjoy opening up a blind pack and seeing goodies for the first time as much as the next guy. That doesn't mean I don't like to know the options that are possible. I have a ton of undead mini's for example if this set was a 1/4 skeletons, zombies, ghouls, etc. I probably would hold off on a case and try and get what I want in the after market. If it also was 1/4 beasts and aberrations of which I have few it may pull me back in. All in all I am excited for the line and want a chance at that dragon, but I will wait and see what the line holds before I commit. Will we see a list of what minis are in the line before this date? If not that is truly disappointing as I really would love to have that dragon, but cannot justify plunking down nearly three hundred bucks when I don't even know what is going to be in the line, or what extra cost the dragon will come with (I understand this at least will be resolved before the deadline. I am ok with a random line. Not my ideal, but I understand why it is being done. I do not understand why you would keep the figures in the line unknown once they have been finalized. Keeping my fingers crossed for that line up :). Congrats on getting this line going! I love having mini's for my games. When will we see a list of what mini's are in the line? This is a big factor to me in ordering a case. The black dragon looks awesome and the likelihood of getting a complete set by ordering the case is reassuring as well, but I can't pull the trigger till I see what is being offered in this line up. I am hoping for sooner tan later. Whiz Kids I know I can't be the only one waiting to see the final line up. I am also looking forward to the adventure packs and any news on those would be great as well. As a side note if a mini game is done with these please use the idea mentioned previously in this thread for the game cards being a separate product outside of the minis themselves. It is a great idea for those that want a mini combat game, but keeps the impact on the mini's to a minimum. Just to let you guys know Humans of Golarion is still showing as a pre order. I added it to my order yesterday with them hoping they would go ahead and ship it with the rest, but they had it as a separate shipment for January 2012. I spoke with a customer rep last night and she said that she would set it up to be checked out. I still thought you guys might want to know as well. I also noticed Dungeons of Golarion still is showing as a pre order as well on Amazon. If you are wanting to take some punishment and redistribute it as well might I suggest a barbarian. They have a whopping D12 fur hit dice and are great at dealing the damage as well. Gotta love the rage! If you are thinking of playing a dwarf they get a bonus to con more hp and potential rage pool! The main thing is have fun and play what you want. Welcome to the boards and let us know how it goes. You (Pathfinderchronicler.net) have the right of course to put any stories, or omit any from your anthology. It is your anthology. I was very proud when my story received an honorable mention last year. It felt like an accomplishment worthy of a little pride. From my correspondence with Montlave after the contest I learned that each judge got to pick a favorite that wasn't in the top 5. Thus the honorable mention to me at least in a way seemed a big deal, and the cause for my previous post. Until a few nights ago the four finalist and the honorable mentions were the stories that were connected to the contest. I guess as an author you want to defend your work and see it get the recognition it earned. I wish you (pathfinderchronicler.net) all the best in the future and success in your contest. It is an awesome thing to have a chance for your work to be in front of Mr. Sutter. Wow! Pretty disappointing to see that my story didn't appear in the anthology since I was one of the judges picks for honorable mention last year with Nahdep's Journey. You can really imagine my surprise when I went to the site and saw that my story was gone (It can still be found on the site, but no longer in connection to the 2010 contest) as well as my honorable mention in last years contest. I cannot express my disappointment in this revisionist bit of editing on the site's part. I guess I won't be sending that entry to this years contest after all. I would love to see an AP centered around the pathfinder society. from becoming a pathfinder in the first installment to being big shot movers and shakers in the society by the end. PFS is great, but the story and rp that are available in an AP would be awesome. I hope we get to see it some day and sooner than later. The "ala cart" idea seems to me it could increase time taken by a much bigger margin to me. Since you are every time you level going through each option to see which best suits your character. It also seems likely to lead to people taking what they see as optimal decisions mechanically with less concern of concept. I would beware of balance issues if pursed. YMMV.
I gotta say I opened up the APG base classes and archetypes to my group for our kingmaker campaign. It arrived just a few days before the first session. Everyone had a general idea for the most part of the roles they were going for and opted to stay with the core classes this time round, but I did have a few players decide to check out the archetypes (including one of my 3 first time gamers).
Lana Orlovsky found herself quietly sitting in the shadows of the Filly and the Flagon. A rowdy tavern that she had thought most nobles would avoid. She wasn't familiar with to many bravos, or she would have known better. It so happened that not twenty feet away sat Frefnir Lodovka a young man that had spent two years in her great uncle's court as a ward of her uncle Viktor. She hadn't had extensive contact with the young man, but knew that he would recognize her. She passed the evening with her hood up sipping at her wine hoping that Frefnir and his friends would move on. Unfortunately like most wealthy ne"er do wells they had nothing better to do than drink, and drink they did. Lana feared trying to leave so she sat and waited as the young men drank an inordinate (by Lana's standards) amount of ale. When they rose to leave she had thought she had escaped notice until after bidding his friends a good evening, and promising to catch up with them later he turned towards Lana's table. It seemed he had noticed her long ago and was enjoying watching her "Blend" in. He sat down and commiserated with her about her situation. He knew he would be horrified if he would be promised to some old crone. He explained how he had heard the Sword Lords were looking for some adventuresome folk to go south and explore and suggested she might have better luck staying incognito in a more out of the way local. He knew her father had people looking for her in Restov and promised her secret was safe with him. Otis and Arryol sat in their cell cursing their luck. They were weary and tired hungry and thirsty. They had told their captors how they had never hurt anyone one and how they had only become highway men out of hunger and necessity. When the young lord pointed out that both of them seemed rather able bodied they had no answer. He told them they would have their trial directly before their execution it did not brighten there mood. When the cell door opened and a well dressed older man entered the chamber they were a little uncertain what to make of him.
The Gronzi Forest was waking from it's winter slumber at the temple of Erastil's Grove. Brother Refan had called for Nomel and Hakak to attend him in his study after they broke their fast. Hakak's great olive tinged hand patted Wolf as they rose from the table. He tossed the great white wolf the last of his bacon, "Here greedy guts."
Nomel nodded, "Of course Elder. Hakak and myself are honored to be selected. We will set forth at once for Restov."
First session was last night made characters and did introduction bits mainly. It looks like we will be playing every other Saturday night squeezing in a session in on off weeks when we can all get together. Lana Orlovsky strode from her father's hall fuming. There was no way she was going to marry seventy-four year old Unster Medvyed! Now had he been an Elf like her own dear mother that would be of no concern. He would only now be of the age to be considering betrothal, but he wasn't; he was human like father. A four time widower with a score of whelps ranging from nigh on sixty to barely twelve. If mother was still alive there is no way father would propose such a match. She stormed into her room collecting her things she hated the thought of running, but not as bad as the thought of Ancient Unster. She would head south she was not commonly known in Restov there she would be able to slip away perhaps find some companions, go forth and wander like mother had done in her youth. She remembered the tales she would spin as Lana lay down for bed. She gripped the fine longbow that had served her mother so well, lifted her hood to fight the cold night air and slipped out the window with no more than she could carry.
Otis looked at Arryol nodding to his life long friend as they saw the lone rider coming down the road. The big half orc liked it when they came along by themselves and so finely dressed as well. Surley this one was a wealthy merchants son or mayhap a lordling of one of the great houses. When he neared there hiding place he sprung from his tree. Drawing his new shiny Bastard sword that had been paid for by the last wealthy son to travel down their road.
We had our character creation and intro session last night. My party is as follows. Nomel Fletcher: a human priest of Erastil. He is a loyal Rostlander. Hakak & Wolf: a half orc druid dedicated to Erastil with his white wolf companion named Wolf. Lana Orlovsky: A half elf fighter of noble blood. Otis: a half orc barbarian. He grew up an orphan in the rough parts of Restov fighting for every scrap of food he got. Arryol: a human draconic bloodline sorcerer. He grew up with Otis on the mean streets together the friends have been through a lot. I am starting a campaign thread to tell the exploits of the party. We started with how it came to be that they each received the charters. If interested look for Dorgar's Kingmaker Tale in campaign's section. Thanks all :) I really apprietiate the feedback. I am a big Game of Thrones fan, so I plan on devoloping the political side of things a bit more. I am also sure that my players are going to want to start building up a military of sorts way before they get to the end of the campaign. Anyone else have this pop up? How have you delt with it? Hi all, I am getting ready to start a Kingmaker campaign and one of the party concepts is having the players be from one of the noble houses of Brevory.
Noteleks I understand your troubles and think an Absalom faction would be cool. I also would like to suggest a mercenary approach to factions as an option for a pathfinder with no desire to be involved in the politics or what have you. By doing "missions" for your benefactor they are opening up their resources to you. More of a one hand washes the other approach than a loyal supporter of cause approach. You want access to all those hard to get items that adventurers love here is a way to get what you need, and what does it hurt to do some little side job while handling what your venture captain has requested you to do right. I mean everyone knows the ten are not going to let any of these factions gain enough power to take over let them dance the dance and continue in their power struggle it keeps them from seriously doing any real damage to the society as a whole. Maybe you are a secrete member of the Absalom faction working as a member of X faction and I am a member of Absalom faction working for Qadira. By us doing missions for them we are ensuring the shadow war continues. Reporting to our real loyalties what these factions are up to. :)I know it isn't official, but in all this shadowy goodness who is to say:D It is all how you spin it. I think this is an interesting discussion. Dragonmoon you have mentioned you have been having trouble with people showing up with non cannon characters could you give us some examples of what you have been having show up? I think the gods/cleric issue has been covered and everyone is in agreement. I think anything really crazy should be addressed if it seems like it is going to cause trouble, but if someone has done something that might be weird or "non cannon" that doesn't affect the overall play then I don't know that I would address the issue during the session. I had a player show up with a dwarf "outcast" that had a shaved face the whole nine yards. His back story was crazy (sorry I don't recall the exact details It's been awhile). Then he started telling me about how all his gear was made out of some special black iron that had special properties. It was at that point I had to tell him that his gear had to be standard out of the book gear. If he wanted it to look strange or describe it in some certain way that was up to him, but mechanically it was standard gear and for quality purposes it would appear so as well. I told him that his weird background may cause him trouble in the future and he might want to try to make it more in line with the setting other than that and some odd reactions by npc's no problem. You are going to have these strange cases from time to time in org play. As long as the crunch is right sometimes you just let the oddball be an oddball as long as they are not disrupting the game. I think Trevor is a great character, and really like his moral compass in the group. I have no problem with him staying on. That being said if you wish to change characters I am ok with that(that goes for everyone if they have decided they would like a little something different, but wish to continue on). I think Trevor will have some interesting times as the story progresses if he stays. Have a good trip Trevor :) also just to let everyone know I am moving apartments so I may have a few days of no internet I will post as I can the computer will be one of the last things to go. As we are wrapping up the first "chapter" if you will I wanted to throw it out there if anyone wishes to bow out of the game. Now is a natural lul in between the action. I do plan on continuing unless everyone calls it quits. If anyone has any feedback on how things are going feel free to post. I am thinking about changing up the mapping for the next section of the game. I will see how things go. Now for a sneak peak behind the screen so to speak.I know some may have been expecting a betrayal by the worg Graypelt as it says if the party does agree to his proposal than he will betray them after. I decided that was to static, and decided he would use the opportunity to size up the "invaders" if the party beat the obstacles in less than seven rounds of active combat, and came out more or less no worse for ware than Graypelt would deal with the party as he didn't want to jeopardize his pack to such a formidable group. He is hoping one or more of the cubs is going to be a worg. There is a peak behind the screen if anyone has any questions about something that happened I will answer to the best of my abilities as long as it isn't something about ongoing plot. :)
