I like that Paizo also fixed issues with the event locator. I notice I get new players at events.

With the new website, and that we will be playing in Florida like nobody's business!

I'd definitely just drive down and take my chances of getting a table or two if there is a way to get a seat.

I know there will be seats available. Bring your characters, and everything you need. There are a couple of people who can accomidate walk in players, BUT, prereg really helps the convention organizer.

If you have not been to http://floridapfs.org/forums/ this is a good time to go.

Its all good WJ, Gerry does a great job, and the Tampa Venture Officers have been supporting Orlando and Statewide events, on top of the Tampa tasks. I appreciate Joe and Kristie taking time to travel to more than a few events outside Tampa.

I have given them a list of Florida events that historically have Pathfinder Society RPG as a focus.

Boons have only been coming regionally in the past few events. Paizo supports conventions better than other companies do right now. Historically, other companies are a lot harder to ask for support, I recalling having to verify all kinds of things for a simple boon to another outfit.

If I can compliment Mike Brock without sounding like a brown noser, I like the cut of his jib. He takes an interest in the game, and is making great choices. I have no doubt that Mike knows how to help an organizer, and will give me cause to quote cliched compliments in the future.

I recommend Black Waters, it is not retired. Mike is pretty much the authority. I think its appropriate for anyone who is old enough for D&D.

I just ran it, It is a good module!

Black Waters:
Make sure you check the conversions from OGL ahead of time and not on the fly.

Thanks to VL Joe who just newly moved to Tampa, we have a nice snazzy website for Florida Pathfinders to use!

http://floridapfs.org/

Make sure you get into the forums. Look for local game day plans, Convention insider information, and a lot of other things to make Pathfinder Society play here a lot easier to find!

See you there!

It looks like we are lining up to get a pretty good turn-out at Oasis 25 in Orlando... hopefully there will be boons there. That reminds me- Dom, going to PM you about the way tables have filled up (dramatically).

About boons at Oasis, I don't think there are any this time.

There will be special boons and Chronicle sheets at Paizo Con, as well as any regional con that has at least 15 sessions and a request is made by the coordinator and/or VC or VL.

Nice! /happydance

This is AWESOME! I know this is exactly what PFS should be doing!

Even with multiple factions?

If you're a coordinator, come up with a better way to offer that continuity w/o a big of an impact on your responsibilities. OR come up with other ideas that could make your job easier and perhaps offset this new multi-part scenario experiment.

Part II releases a day before Memorial Day, so offering it at a Memorial Day weekend con is inadvisable, because of prep time. The Coordinator for Oasis knows his stuff, and would never offer an event that drops a day before the con opens.

As an allied coordinator, I am going to offer this at another event in the future, and will make that known at Oasis. There are a couple of things I wanted to settle before making a public announcement for a convention in summer. There are unfortunately two convention events that weekend.

I love this change Kyle, at future events this is going to help. I don't care for bacon sprinkles.

Fromper wrote:

I'm with Dragonmoon on this one. People play multi-parters out of order all the time, and it's usually not by choice. At my first convention a couple of months ago, I played part 2 of a series where I'd missed part 1, just because it was the only PFS scenario available in that slot, and playing PFS was the main reason I was there at the con.

Good News Fromper! There will be a chance to play part two in the Sunshine State at a convention to be named shortly. I am shooting for an end of June plans.

As an organizer, often I have to offer part one and part two, part one or just part two at the same or sequential conventions. I get stuck with the way the event s release, and by the time convention day comes part one sometimes doesn't make and I have a glut on part two.

Its not a limitation, as long as you can afford the gun, you only use three feats, PB Shot, Rapid Reload (double fromage hackbutt), and rapid shot.

A third level character can have all the feats they need to make with the boom-boom.

My concerns were for Pathfinder Society so RAW (subject to the campaign guide) is essential.

Outside of RAW:
Its a very long carriage gun with a ramrod for loading. It is a tall assumption that anyone can shove the rammer down the barrel three times a round in six seconds, while aiming three times. Movement is not restricted so you can even roll the cart five feet over any non-difficult terrain, while loading and shooting.

I have seen dog mounted halfling paladins charge and single shot demons while smiting with a lance, and they do less damage than what this weapon can do every time after the first round.

There is a lot of dogpiling on new and in demand modules. Many of those who have high levels are on the 12th level modules.

I don't mind the choices, its different from how I would schedule, but to each his own!

Are you coming Thursday or Friday?

RAW, there is no movement cost. You can't use it in this manner until well after 4th level so the restriction doesn't solve the problem.

Posted for a PFS guide review.

There was some questions I started about the balance of the Double Hackbut, I have seen it dish out 2d12 three times, and with a critical or two single shot final encounters, (after every other encounter). This is without haste, or any other speed enhancement.

Round one, set up cart.
Round two, biggest bad guy dies.
Round three, three minions die.

The combination of musket master archetype, rapid shot and rapid reload with Alchemical cartridges lets you shoot like a belt fed machine gun.

Physically, you ram a rod two times for each reloading. In order to shoot three times a round, you ram six times in six seconds while walking around the double hackbut cart. I thought about sundering, but to do that you have to be close, you can't get close.

The thread I started

Removing the Double Hackbut is one easy solution.

Until an errata comes out, this is fromage. Its legal, but yeah a sunder or a overrun would upset the cart.

That is a perfectly reasonable cart to haul through a dungeon. /sarcasm

Gerry has some overloaded tables that need some judge attention. If everyone can pick up a table as a judge we can cover them.

Pardon me for being dense. I read the rules, and they didn't speak to me as clearly as I thought. I also read the sources and failed my "reading comprehension" roll. Thanks for the perspective.

The capacity of two implied two rounds, does that mean a double load instead, two charges and one bullet?

I put one in the gunslinger on Herolab, and indeed it comes out as three attacks at 2d12 in one round. Even with a full round setup, you shoot, roll the cart 5 feet, and shoot again. Its like a belt fed automatic weapon.

It sounds RIPE for an errata.

what particular part do you think there would be a PFS restriction?

I think I was confused. Hence the post.

A double Hackbutt has two barrels though? You are firing each barrel three times? One barrels shot is 2d12?

It says under Rapid Reload:
"If you have selected this feat for a hand crossbow or light crossbow, you may fire that weapon as many times in a full-attack action as you could attack if you were using a bow."

A two handed firearm is not a crossbow.

Ok, shooting a double hackbut (harquebus) three time a round.

Using musket master archetype checks out.

Rapid shot and rapid reload with Alchemical cartridges I still have questions, I thought there was a PFS specific restriction.

I was looking for this with the Pathfinder Society changes figured in, we played this at a con.

E: Double Hackbutwas what made me wonder how you rapids shot it three times a round.

I am confused about reloading at the last convention where I ran a player with a gunslinger. Without stopping the table to review a load of things, I let things slide. I am reading the rules, and wondering if I missed a FAQ

What is the legal reload time for a one handed, and two handed firearm, and a double hackbut. Is it really a free action with rapid shot? It seems odd that someone is claiming that musket master applied a free action reload for other that weapons with musket in the name.

Awesome job! I just talked to the new Venture LT moving to Lakeland, he is coming to Oasis too and will have some Cyphermage going.

Lets plan to have lunch or breakfast and talk about the rest of the conventions in Florida for 2012.

Thanks Liz for clueing me in, it didnt even take a clue bat!

Going to grab the book to look at it on a kindle when I get home.

My son did GM his second scenario. He is still very young - so I like to help him. At the same time I like to encourage him to take the next step (he wanted to GM). One option would have been to be in the room and help when needed. Knowing his group (the junior league).

My middle daughter just got her first star. I played mods I ran to get her started. She now runs like a pro and did like three or four mods at the last event I organized. I was her age when I started playing D&D in the 70s, but she's an old pro now!

I play mods I ran a few times, it's not fun but it helps and serves the greater good.

For those of you in the sunshine state, we have a facebook page to keep better contact.

Go to Pathfinders of FLorida on Facebook

I hope we can use this to share the load on judging, help plan better events, and enjoy our hobby. We have a convention about every other month and gamedays in many cities.

Organizers want to hear what you would like the see on the schedule, where people want more public games, and how to get involved in planning great events playing a great RPG.

See you at the game table!

I made a mistake! I foolishly offered a module that Oasis is offering the next week in Orlando, sorry Gerry!

If you like attend Oasis memorial day weekend. http://warhorn.net/oasis25/

SLot one now offers:
PFS 1-48: The Devil We Know—Part IV: Rules of the Swift
In the conclusion of the Devil We Know campaign arc, you are called once more to Cassomir, where a mass abduction of the residents of Swift Prison has the entire town in a panic. Venture-Captain Hestia Themis once more partners you with an Aspis agent to see what link the Swift Prison event has to the earlier kidnapping of a Pathfinder agent. You will explore an empty prison, delve the tunnels below, and come face-to-face with the source of Cassomir's troubles in a vile grotto deep beneath the city.
Rules of the Swift is the fourth and final installment of the Devil We Know campaign arc

I didn't mean that it was completely awful. Just that things went wonky, and a better GM would have handled it better.

I definitely prepped the heck out of the adventure, so I was ready for all the spells, powers, feats, etc of the bad guys. It was the stuff I couldn't possibly have seen coming that threw me off, like the PCs not having the ability to track the bad guy as necessary, and thinking an NPC who was there to put them on the right track was actually lying to them.

There is an old engineering saying, "Better is the enemy of good enough!"

What I mean is the measure of your slot should always be, did the party have fun. They had fun!

Ok, but how many source books would you have to have read to know that calistrian worship was outlawed there? I don't see anything about it in the inner sea world guide, and its not self evident that Asmodeous would outright ban calistria worship.

Exactly zero. A DM should know that, if not that's ok, you play on.

You are in a nation that is Lawful Evil. The obvious issue, even if i knew nothing about Cheliax except alignment is that law and order are number one, and justice takes a back seat. In a lawful good nation, a Callistrian should get a similar but less capital punishment centered reception, as most moral upright nations would not allow a chaotic brothel to be out in the open either.

Let's move the setting to Taldor. Not as much law and order but tolerance and decadence. The visitors to the brothel may sneak in but the government won't arrest and execute people. Heck, Duke Bob the Guard Overlord likes his feet ticked by a redhead elf girl, but not at his desk.

It comes down to immersion. If the module says, "find the McGuffin!" we are not spending most of it on the trial of Bee Boy the Callistrian Cleric of Cheliax. That character should find a sense of peril, and a good judge can drop that into the stew of a good session, but it is not the main course.

Honestly, don't be too hard on yourself! I think its better you are trying to improve every event even if you were Judge McSmoothy. Personally, I always look for ways to organize and judge better ever convention and game day.

This was an event I organized so let me share my game day impressions. I didn't hear about issues from players Fromper, and I appreciate the help at the convention. For mid to upper deck, I always hear if there are problems. Players after a few levels will be very vocal about the judge very quickly.

When I walked into the room, people were smiling and having fun, you didn't notice because you were working hard. The gauge of a good judge is simply this: "Did the table have fun?" It is less about knowing every sub case of the ruleset, and knowing how to manage the personalities involved, and help everyone have a good time.

That you reached beyond your comfort level and tried it is a credit to you. They went off the tracks and you handled it! Many people would have been in a panic, and spoiling the fun trying shove them back on the rails.

I usually will assign a lower and an higher module to judges so they can prep properly. Some will get two higher mods if they have been around the block a few times. I would give you another middle deck 5-9 module if you wanted it, and I think you can handle busy events just fine.

In short, you were a fine judge and I would love for you to volunteer again. No kittens were injured in the running of that mod. I would love to see you volunteer at our busy cons, and I would schedule you without any hesitation.

Please come back, you made the grade and we need all the help from good judges that we can get!

Hypotheticals are easy.

You are in Rahadoum and are a cleric walking around in robes and a great big holy symbol. Any NPC would certainly have you arrested.

You are in Cheliax and are an elf openly sporting a Calistrian holy symbol making no effort to hide it. Many NPCs would turn you in just to see you tortured.

Once we put "but if"s on the hypothetical questions, then it becomes a judge call that we on the internet are not able to make. If after telling a guy that people are pointing at you with that holy symbol out, they make no move to be a little smart then I would certainly have a reaction from NPCs.

If he tucked the holy symbol away, and hid his ears under a cap, then I would probably ignore the display if it had nothing to do with the plot.

If a judge misses it or ignores it, then oh well.

I just offered it at a con. Its a great option for those who did play all three intros, and want to stay in the "kiddie pool" one more time.

I think the 0 PP is an issue, but upfront we are clear that it awards no PP.

You have to hold it until the next adventure slot...

:-)

Oasis is a great event, I always enjoy myself. I can also enjoy beverages more freely, and skip a slot if I feel like it. :-)

Thanks all for attending and all the judges! I had a blast.

Thanks a load to VL Kristie as well!

Thanks Whiskey Jack, and your lovely Whiskey Jill for attending and for volunteering to run pick up tables at the last minute. I hate disappointing walk in players. I hope the new stars come soon!

With you and other pitching in, my stress level for this event dropped a lot. I had every single LFR game fold due to lack of players.

See you guys there, I still have wild card games.

Awesome! I am looking forward to you all attending. VL Kristie is coming across the state to run The Cyphermage Dilemma.

I posted here at the last minute, and you know what, that was a mistake. Next time I will post here first, we have another event in Orlando next month, and I am running an event in Jacksonville, FL this summer.

I promise to make sure I get a good flogging next time I visit Cheliax. Come to think of it, that's what happens every time I am in Cheliax...
:-)

Cool Stuff also has a very large stock, and you can preorder online and pick up in person in Orlando. They also have game days every two weeks.

I just listed the highlights. We have four games per slot, and can still use DMs and players. My plan is to right size the event a week out.

Games Featured:

Pathfinder Module Carrion Hill by Richard Pett
The strange city of Carrion Hill has long loomed over the surrounding swamps in eastern Ustalav, yet its rulers have shifted many times through the centuries. Often enough that only a few sinister scholars and curious minds know the true nature of the hill’s original inhabitants—vile and depraved cultists of the Old Gods. Yet this morning, a dreadful recrudescence rises from the depths of buried nightmare in the vaults below Carrion Hill.

Pathfinder 3-17: Red Harvest Levels 7 to 11 by Alex Greenshields.
In the naga-ruled nation of Nagajor in southern Tian Xia, the Pathfinder Society finds itself caught between feuding factions in a remote village.

Pathfinder Module: Master of the Fallen Fortress - First Level Players, only by Rob McCreary.
The ruined siege castles outside Absalom have long beckoned adventurers looking to make a name for themselves. Now an earthquake has cracked open one of these fabled ruins, and its lost mysteries and fantastic treasures lie exposed for the first time in centuries. But the tower's empty halls once more echo with living footfalls, and a new master has claimed the Fallen Fortress as his own.

As a frequent summoner, my approach is to announce I summon, grab my iPad and pull up a stat block of my desired creature.

There is a third party iPad app for the PRD that has hyperlinks keyed off the SNA description, for those lesser unnatural summoners, there's a listing for the arcane version as well. (insert disclaimer here)

I never have an issue using the PRD. I credit that to Paizo being so awesome! My iPad books weigh less than the hardcover ones. I have been asked to produce a book, and I simply open the pdf and I am done.

I also own the summoning cards, and they are a great option if you don't have a pad of some sort. A pad is a great option for gaming though. (Thats despite failing to convince my wife to wear a Yeoman Rand costume and hand me my iPad.)

When you come down to it, I have land, sea and air frequently called beasts for each level of SNA, the exceptions are easy to add, like the occasional elemental. You should need to summon every type of creature every game.

I miss bison bombing, it was up there with the "wall of iron crushing your head" in the fromage department.

My list:

1) Taco launcher special ability is banned for pole arms.
2) Druids players must wear horns at the table
3) Druids must not play a pan flute at the table.
4) Players may not use diminutive weapons
5) Halflings who have enlarge on them must call themselves full-lings
6) NCOs are permitted at private games, but officers must attend officer games.
7) Gnome punting is allowed only if the gnome is wearing a reflective safety vest, has a glitter dust on them, or had light cast on their head. Please return your punted gnome to the full and upright position.
8) All Kegs must be either Yuengling or full of sunshine and smiles.

I have a complaint, c'mon down to Megacon! :-)

Lobsteritas are on me Mike, great job.
