(M Gnome Spellthief /2)

Dinpel will circle to the back of the copse and come within 20 ft as this could be an ambush; wait and hide until the knight goes in and then respond to the situation as it develops. Mace in hand, lay my xbow on the ground ready to grab if needed for range.

spot 18+2+5+(distance modifier from fire?) 25+ wow best ever; looking more around the copse and outside it as I figure everyone else is watching the two figures and the known gobby, though Dinpel is curious if the two figures are breathing and what races they are.

msil 14+4 18

<dinpel ponders, this hardly seems like a goblin incursion yet and wonders if they are hiding in holes or tunnels ready to pop out any moment>

(M Gnome Spellthief /2)

to gm => I will primarily be seeking to target casters as primary targets and see options for freeing the girl if we find her, but sometimes these things are catch as catch can :)

(M Gnome Spellthief /2)

Dinpel moves to get ahead of the group going after the girl as he moves slowest eager to use his lifelong training against his hated foe. If he gets 30ft ahead of Memnon he will wait.

(M Gnome Spellthief /2)

Sheesh; lets just kill this goblin and go save the girl, my idea to capture the goblin depended on not mortally wounding him; sheesh, lets go, we can always capture another one of these vile toads of evil.

(M Gnome Spellthief /2)

Dinpel continues to hide and guard...

(M Gnome Spellthief /2)

Dinpel considers answering, after a long pause of being lost in his hatred for goblins and not wanting to give away his guard position; he writes a short note on a piece of paper and wads it around a small rock; he is going to throw it low into the parties midst trying to hit the Lady's calf.

the note:

Spoiler:

Am on guard watching closeby ready to move; am concerned with time not this goblin - dinpel

the throw:

(M Gnome Spellthief /2)

Dinpel awaits hidden watching and listening to the party with the background of unnatural silence; he listens to the ground as goblins are tunnelers just in case

Dinpel signals Aradove and whispers; hey; listen; no birds; no insects; not even friendly crickets; beware...this doesnt feel right...what could frighten nature so? It is getting darker; soon it will be easier to hide and our enhanced racial visions will click on; we should watch for the humans for their senses are not as a acute and I have a feeling a storm is brewing.

new rolls if needed.

<lol gm, I rarely get to play as I mostly gm so was just thinking that these the rolls I would ask for:) how far are we from the others near the fallen goblin; we are heading that way but I dont want to get closer than 30 ft to them; stay hidden and about 15 ft from Aradove>

(M Gnome Spellthief /2)

Let us creap forward Aradove; all may not be as it seems; we may have been spotted or not, but it might do well to have some support on the perimetere listening and watching, but I will follow your lead ; <dinpel begins to creep forward mace in hand crouched low pausing to spot and listen from time to time.>

i doubt Aradove is very heavy and will use the wall for support.

(M Gnome Spellthief /2)

Well, oh Aradove; you ready to head out; looks like we missed the prelims; I will climb down the wall then help you down; just lower yourself down and step on my head and shoulders; be good practice in case we have to do this sort of thing again; goblin lairs can be full of this type excersize.

<since we dont seems to be in a hurry can I take a 10 or 20 on climb? also, I have jump and tumble if I fall..>

Ava - Dinpel speaks goblin; maybe we can use your intimidate and play good cop bad cop :)

(M Gnome Spellthief /2)

Well, I will go with you Aradove, nobody should be alone facing the unknown; <secures his xbow; pulls hand weapons and sneaks off after her several paces to her left>

(M Gnome Spellthief /2)

am covertly watching and ready to cover with my xbow

(M Gnome Spellthief /2)

well, I am only fairly skilled at steath; don't think I can really sneak over their to well being watched and all; maybe we should like camp out here a bit n have dinner; wait till it gets dark and just keep watch; dis be a lot easier mayhap at dusk or so or I suppose we could just mosy over there and when one runs we try to tag him in the leg or something with arrows and whatnot; least it might give us something to track. hmm; guess it is a bit of a puzzle.

so, anyone wanna try the stealth thing?

(M Gnome Spellthief /2)

no; dont hide; run; sprint; they are short like me; you can outrun them easy as you could outrun me; go; we can cover and follow; run, sprint; go your delay is giving us away and you loose surprize!

(M Gnome Spellthief /2)

Who do you suppose is the fastest runner in our little group? If we have somebody pretty quick and agile who is ready to take a little sprint right now; we have an excellent opportunity to perhaps get some information if you have some non bloodthirsty options. Aradove, Erian, could I have a quiet word; <Dinpel positions himself directly between Aradove and Erian and the position of watcher in the weeds> run as fast as you can directly behind me about a few tens of yards, jump the wall or the gate and keep running as fast as you can and you will find a clue; try not to kill, I will cover you in case of surprises; go now one to my left and one to my right side; Run!

<if they do this, Dinpel will use the gate/wall for cover and get into a support firing position>

Pray all attend, we are being watched! Filthy little beasties <last part mumbled with a certain amount of malicious sneer(ie racial hatred)>

(M Gnome Spellthief /2)

well, uhm, the gate, uhm...

<Dinpel is awaiting info from the gm>

(M Gnome Spellthief /2)

Dinpel is listening to the conversation with interest, but continues to check the gate and gate area for tampering; traps or other things of an undue nature as well as get a general feel of the gates ability to function and what it would take to repair it or use it to create a counter trap to give warning if anyone goes through this area.

(M Gnome Spellthief /2)

Well, I will check out the gate if you like; am not that skilled at traps so to speak; but, me dad did show me a thing or two that is used by gobs and a funny thing to do for a chuckle, am really a trained locksmith, but I'll have a go; be my first time at it so am glad a couple holy men are around. Dinpel steps toward the gate and starts searching 10ft around it and the gate; also spends a bit of time looking around in each direction; he moves quitely and carefully.

<gm, am going to take extra time and care as my skill isnt that great and we dont look like we are in a hurry; add whatever bonus that might be worth hehe as my search skill is not that good :) >

trapfinding roll 15 woot :) +3 search skill = 18
spot to see if anyone is covertly watching or any other groups around
19+2 hehe using up all my high rolls.

(M Gnome Spellthief /2)

Put your mind at ease Earm and revered Baker; she is not dead yet; it is not thier way if it was indeed the foul goblin; we know not yet if they were acting on behalf of another or for their own foul purpose, but certainly as we are not grieving over her fallen, uhm, like she isnt here uhm; passed on as it were; they have some purpose for her; perhaps meanial labor; or selling her or some such or they were hired to do this thing as her being here is a known fact; still things will come to light, they always do; as long as we act directly we can hope for the best.

to all; hmm if we had time we could find out if any others are missing; I dont usually get on well with guardian types as to their minds I am to small to be taken seriously; but, you sir knight; perhaps they will talk to you, but then, my da always said there are always those who want to ignore facts and even plain evidence if it is not how they want things to be; dangerous people those; I hope the guards are not such as they, but status quo is their way.

Either chase after her now; they have nearly half a day on us; or find more information from others in town would seem to be our choice unless yea can think of another course of action. I would like to know how many and how often and seek other signs, but suggest we go on this trail; also, goblins fight in packs; they are very ambush minded with all sorts of traps and deadfalls as typical; might help to have a few more eyes with us.

Mayhap those of you with that leadership and commanding tone should go back to town with others while the druid, ranger and I pursue this trail a bit so we know where it is that we are going; it may take us a bit to find the real trail in case their are false ones and while we do so you would only be standing around; that is the best council I can give; how shall we decide?

<for any sense motives>

Spoiler:

Dinpel considers this a logical puzzle and more mathmatics or something and is not either aware of concerned about personal relationships of how this might affect Earam or the Baker ie he is smart but not wise

(M Gnome Spellthief /2)

It appears the others over yonder are coming to join us; lest they distrub more tracks you may wish to stop them or not as you think wise; is strange one of our group is not to the fore but some boy we have not met...

<gm, what time of day is it in game please?>

(M Gnome Spellthief /2)

Maybe you should check a bit farther out; we have been over this area with a fine tooth comb and might have messed up the scent and tracks by now; the tracks should be sometime before sunrise this morning and here is the blood; (read back for what I related earlier as I will say about the same thing about the yellow and white legs)

(M Gnome Spellthief /2)

Dinpel scans the countryside for encroaching trouble and tries to note anyone from the mill that is covertly taking interest or perhaps running off as if to tell the supposed goblins of this development. spot 15+2=17 and wonders if the others will be joining them or if they should wave and get there attention, but decides to wait and watch for trouble.

(M Gnome Spellthief /2)

Well, since I doubt any of our companions speak wolf; perhaps you or I should look to how there doing and bring them back; not sure though; you see them? spot 15+2=17

(M Gnome Spellthief /2)

Dinpel thanks the groundhog and gives a few more nuts and fruits and collects his watercup as they ability fades for the day and returns to Aradove and relates.

Well, keep in mind that groundhogs dont have names for races and dont count or anything like we do, things are more either food or a threat or cover or like that; they are pretty easy going and not that curious as a group.

Anyhow, it was more than two; was several to many; some yellow, some white skinned; some in armor; some not; Gumbo, what the groundhog calls himself, did not notice if they were male or female and doesnt have the scent ability that say your wolf friend does. This all took place last night sometime before sunrise. Thank you again for the dried rations.

Dinpel looks around to ensure nobody like a sneaky git goblin is sneaking up on them; and then looks toward the mill to see if the others are returning; he is holding his loaded xbow and is kneeling to not be too obvious over the grass and motions Aradove to squat a bit to as to not stand out. (I am not sure how high the grass is compared to Dinpel's height, but many wild grasses are nearly as tall as he is so let me know, thanks)

(M Gnome Spellthief /2)

Gumbo, were these yellow legs and white legs male or female? <then will ask "how long ago; this day refering to sun or last; was it bright or dark out.

(M Gnome Spellthief /2)

Dinpel says "good gumbo, Dinpel share treats, Gumbo thirsty Dinpel share water <put dried rations and cup of water from my skin before the groundhog> Tell me Gumbo, see two legs by that two legs earlier? <indicate the druid who is standing by the dried blood> Dinpel find dried blood there.

(M Gnome Spellthief /2)

Dinpel approaches the Aradove after the wolf is gone, I have found a creature that may or may not give us some information; with your wolf gone he is unlikely to be frightened; I will communicate with him and see what can be found; do you perhaps have some treat or bribe or suggestion that would help encourage a groundhog to want to help?

mechanics info

Spoiler:

am planning to use my 1/day racial ability to talk to burrowing animals and hoping to get a synergy bonus from Aradove to make the groundhog more friendly and likely to help and relate if he saw anything. I will approach the groundhog quitely; move silent - take a 10 as I just dont want to spook him.

(M Gnome Spellthief /2)

Looks grim; hmm; let me see an any burrowing animals are about; perhaps they saw something and can tell me; perhaps there might be some items like jewelry or bit of cloth here abouts; lets make a quick search; if you see a burrowing animal like a mouse let me know; might be hiding due to your wolf though; he seems to be acting parculiar; any idea how old this blood is; is it red and sticky or dry and crumbly; hmm, I am not a tracker or a physician nor enough of a mage to make the drop tell us who lost it or what race it was. <Dinpel searches the flat area and about 3 ft out from it for more clues or some rodent: search roll: woot 19+3=22 spot 16 +2=18 and puts his ear to the ground and listens: <in case there is a goblin tunnel :) listen: 12+6=18 heeh or an animal; you never know :) >

while searching:
yes, we should tell them, but not just yet as they might yet uncover something in there; this looks grim; wouldnt want anything inconvienient like a campfire get started here or anything; if you can ascertain where the trail leads perhaps we could see a likely hideout from here; if they dont find the girl then we should all follow this trail perhaps and if that fails; I can come back tonight and covertly check around if needed; we dont as yet know if this was caused by a person or a beast; does your four legged friend perhaps smell some perfume or anything to tell us race or sex; perhaps if I find a mouse, it can tell us.

(M Gnome Spellthief /2)

Dinpel gives Aradove a smile; this way he whispers and slinks off into the grass to circle the mill; after a few feet he reloads his xbow just in case any goblins are about. Moving carefully and keeping his eyes out for things and pausing now and again to listen and watch the mill as well as give Aradove and her compainion a chance to look about too; they circle and head to the rear of the mill area by the river.

(M Gnome Spellthief /2)

<for the gm>

Spoiler:
sorta

well, nobody vetoed my looking around or anything like that; how high is the grass; as Erin says this is in the middle of a community; I thought it was more rural and outside of town; if we are still in town, I will just follow the knight and just hang back keeping an eye out and coverty looking around; wont be on till much later so here are a few spot rolls if needed: 19+2=21 3+2= 5 lol, 9+2=11. If we are rural and there are not really any people around or there is no line at the mill as one would expect getting stuff ground and it is more wildernessy :) then I will do some sneaking around at this distance and circle the place looking for anyone else that might be looking at the party or obvious tracks; maybe I cannot read them very well, but might be able to find them with search; up to you. Search rolls 15+3= 18; 13+3=16 20+3 natural =23; hide rolls 13+4 = 17 (remember I am small too) 7+4=11 16+6=22; move silent 14+ 4=18 13+4=17 9+4 = 13; will only circle and search about if it looks like I could hide out there and somebody else might; am also thinking that it might be good to have someone outside who knows where everybody went in case things go sour; either way is good; so if the knight wants me to follow when I am going off then I will just follow him and keep an eye out - just trying to help.

(M Gnome Spellthief /2)

So you dont trust my judgement Shepard? Goblins are fearful nasty things and they find allies in even the most unlikely of places. Am bit surprized at you seeing how the church is fighting actively against their kind, very curious, but no mind, I am true and faithful have no doubt.

(M Gnome Spellthief /2)

Dinpel pauses and hangs back a bit; unsure of what to do, finally sighs and takes his bolt out of his xbow and puts it back in his quarrel case, but straps the cocked bow to his backpack and loosens his mace wondering if this is going to be the end of his tale.

(M Gnome Spellthief /2)

Are we really in the city; seems very rural to me, just the sort of place that the nefarious would deal with goblins, goblinoids inflitrate cities by hiding in high grassy areas like this; close to water and all; here in the borderlands; am just saying that the unwary often end up dead. Am not triggerhappy; dont worry; hehe can't hit much anyhow. I still wanna take a look around out here; what say you?

(M Gnome Spellthief /2)

What say you revered baker; you ready to continue on foot or do you want to ride way up there all close to the sun and all? hmm, intersting scene that would be you riding up to the mill and all.

(M Gnome Spellthief /2)

Please hold up a bit; I think the Baker is unwell, perhaps he needs to catch his breath.

Oh, the town seems nice enough; little exposed for my tastes, but the people, well most of them, seems cheerful enough with a good ecomomy, no big evidence of plague or such afflictions, haven't seen anyone give us but casual interest. Peoples close are in good repair and nice enough. I have been watching for watchmen, guards, or constables - in case we need one - but not sure if I have seen any yet; wow, maybe everyone is deputized; I read about a place like that once; everyone was responsible for the place and could take matters in hand; always wondered how they avoided lynchmobs though.

<gm>

Spoiler:

spot 15+2= 17 if necessary; note from my last post I have been looking taking note of things

(M Gnome Spellthief /2)

<Dimple slows down to a moderate pace from 20 to 15 that the baker may rest and not be winded, the better to see the sights, note passing businesses, class of people; general wealth; and emergency boltholes.>

(M Gnome Spellthief /2)

Dinpel waits by the door to leave looking out at the crowd in the street until the party heads out.

(M Gnome Spellthief /2)

*gives a sigh of relief at Shepards comments*

Well, Dinpel is my name, of the Jannipack's of Aiden's Wall and always glad to meet the neighbors. I am not much for fighting -umh; lest there is goblins involved (you see Dinpel carries a xbow and quarrels, a mace, and dagger), but am pretty good at listening and figuring out puzzles. Am pleased to aquaint myself with such company. Well...as this is a worship hall, uh..may Garl uhm shine his smile on all here and uhm..keep the dweller below at a distance and uhm..the other gods of good kinda help out if so inclined.

<dinpel seems a bit uncomfortable talking of such weighty religious matters, but smiles congenially at all involved.>

If you don't mind Sir Shepard; I will follow your lead in this matter; these matters between families can get real sticky - especially if a lot of kinfolk are at hand.

(M Gnome Spellthief /2)

I am ready and willing; as you can see, I carry all I own with me as things have a tendancy to wander, curious that. As for settling, well, I agree; lets get this matter settled. As for armor, I hardly think you need it to check out a mill *chortles* but then I am wearing mine as are some others so who can know such things.

**mumbles** sheesh you forget one guys name...sounds like me old history teacher.

(M Gnome Spellthief /2)

spot: 13+2= 15
Sense motive: 6+0= 6
initiative: 12+2= 14

move closer to the elf; whisper in elven; "know you this Kagen Ru?"

(M Gnome Spellthief /2)

Hmm interesting; shall we head yonder to this mill and see what can be found?

<gm>

Spoiler:
Dinpel is suspicous of the old man and finds it curious that he would not show his shop or the girls room; perhaps she left a note and all, the miller and a baker feuding perhaps; how rare as one depends on the other and such a match of marriage would seem beneficial to all; Dinpel is intrigued to find out how this will turn out. Is the old man covered with flour or any other baker stuff?

(M Gnome Spellthief /2)

ah; economy was not invented by me; are all goods and services free? Truly I would help regardless just to discover the mystery as I wonder if there is any foul deed here or not; we have not the knowledge of what goes before or what deeds any party involved has done in the past; perhaps this is a lure for those as you at the cost of nothing for at least I would think a loaf of bread or so is little cost to relieve such a troubled brow. I would help gladly, generousity one sided is like a kiss one sided - not as good a thing as could be; what say you revered baker?

Dinpel; still looks around; his face full of wonder.

(M Gnome Spellthief /2)

In the Worship Hall,
A gnome that is wearing grey studded leather and other traveling gear steps up, where he came from was rather unnoticed, but some may remember him from the caravan and that the service he performed was checking locks and boxes to ensure they were not being tampered with, "ah, a baker with a mystery; I have always had a fondness for bakers and their craft, but boys and girls will be as all blooded creatures are, but perhaps it was a scheme of dark sundry creatures, like goblins, that lured her away. I ask you revered baker, show us your shop and her lodgings that perhaps hold a clue to this mystery and surely this boy is not just any boy if he lodges in this city he too must have friends, family and other concerns of earthly nature. Did you come here seeking an oracle about her fate perhaps or just consolance? Surely some action is better than sitting on a bench in misery, for all we know the gods have sent you us, hehe. My time is worth a loaf of bread or so, what say you?

<gm; let me know if you want a diplomacy or some other skill roll, some may perhaps notice that the gnome barely glances at the old, balding man as he, while talking, examines tapestries, how the chairs and benches are constructed, people in the room; the ceiling, the floor apparently just interested and not looking for anything in particular...
