After taking a good long look through the lens:
"Hmm peculiar, I am not so sure about them being ethereal though, I believe the trail you see left behind them to indicate they are more likely to be moving through the Astral realm. It is most peculiar though, I wonder what they are searching for. Carrion Hill is built upon an old graveyard if I recall correctly, perhaps an old artifact or other treasure is entombed and they search for it."
Stepping back from the lens and taking in the room more fully
"Not to change the subject, but Master Gormut what do you know of the Blackspears Bandits?"
My eyes go wide involuntarily at all the works in progress and my mind wanders at the possibilities of what each experiment or gadget might do. Out of politeness though I will not stray from following Gormut.
"You certainly keep yourself busy Magister."
When he stops at the bench to remove the disc I will carefully scrutinize the contraptions at this worktable, probably not noticing his departure until I hear the creak of the wrought iron stairs and his exhalation from above. I will then move to the stairs and ascend to see what awaits there.
I will supplicate myself with a modest bow to our host. Assuming that Zosimus informs me of the Magister's desire that no animals enter his yard I will tie of my mule at the gate before following the two into the inner yard.
Magister Gormut wrote:
"Oh-see-ree-on, you say? Then to-day must make you quite nostalgic."
"A day does not pass that I do not fondly remember my homelands."
Thinking to myself I wonder if the man is referring to the supposed "heat of the day".
"Your offer of shelter is much appreciated Magister."
I will then follow Zosimus into the Gormut's home.
What ethnicity is this Magister Gormut, do I know anything about him or his background, where is his accent from? Also he mentioned being nostalgic for home is there a holiday that I am forgetting? I looked in the campaign guide but saw no mention of an Osirian holliday.
If nobody really wants to take Appraise at 1st Level, that's fine with me. This isn't a heavy-handed hint that the party will need to get through a grueling Appraise-trap or anything.
But Appraise is the skill in Pathfinder that helps identify magical properties of items, so it's more generally useful than its analogue in 3.5.
Seems like a good skill for the Diviner to take, but I will be grabbing it at second level after reading the pathfinder version. Speaking of the Diviner, has anybody seen or heard from Zosimus, we have been standing in front of the "Hillsage" for enough time waiting for him to respond to the sages greetings that it is starting to get uncomfortable.
Yes you are correct but it had been a few days since I had posted anything, and currently I am waiting for Zosimus to respond to the Hillsage, for I do not know the man or his area of specialty. I was hoping to incite a response from the diviner.
"Musters are always such a mess when there's no watch to herd people.
"So these musters are a common occurrence? I would have thought a town the size of Carrion Hill would have a dedicated City Watch for such matters, not that I am complaining about being involved mind you. It just seems odd that Deputy Constable Wygate came to the Cold Comfort instead of to the Watch."
Small talk and conversation as we head towards Zosimus's "Hillsage".
In response to Valdisara:
"It sounds a good plan to me, we will meet you on the road north in one hours time, less if we are lucky. Come Zosimus lets make haste, along the way you can tell me of this sage"
Sorry about that. I also apologize to all as it seems rather bossy in tone.)
No need to apologize, actually what our group needs, in fact what all newly formed groups need is someone to start giving orders, so no offense was taken. As for going with Grumble to seek out ol'Cale I realized that my initial desire was to seek him out solely for the selfish reason of meeting a new scholar and the no doubt long-winded conversations that would follow. As time is of the essence and my queries would probably stray from the topic at hand I have decided to take your advice and stay with the wagon. There will be time enough later to meet Cale in the future.
GM Chris Mortika wrote:
Anyone who's going to consult with Old Cale probably leaves in the ten minutes it takes Tepetta to come back with her team. That's Grumblenaught and who else?
I will be staying and waiting for the wagon, albeit a bit torn over the decision.
Arghhh....but but but it's historical information and mysteries and scholars and........oh all right I will stay
Orislav wrote:
Anyone else with a steed should join the two of them.
If the men Deserach saw heading north are going to tell the brigands, the rest of us need to get moving.
I will reluctantly acquiesce, Orislav is right of course, I would only slow them down without a mount. I will look on as if torn between my natural fact-finding instincts and what I know is most practical and productive. Once the wagon arrives I will get in the back and look for a comfortable position to sit, this is not at all like the carriages I grew up riding in. Sigh.
Curiosity sparked by the cantankerous dwarfs claim to know someone, possibly a historian or scholar, who might be able to fill some of the holes and questions the Blackspears "re-appearance" have created, I will follow Grumble.
Looking back at the rest of the group (those that do not follow):
"Lets meet up at the north trail out of town in 30 minutes."
As we make way to the docks I will make sure to keep up with Grumble as I am not as familiar with the area.
"What manner of man is this "ol'Cale", a historian, explorer, or some other learned scholar?"
"I think Orislav and Martaug are right, there is little chance that Winston traveled the 18 miles from the farm to town to warn us, it is far more likely that the Bandits are nearby, we could try searching for them or head to the farm and prepare defenses."
"At any rate I have 15 gp I could lend to the cart fund if needed"
Knowledge (geography) to determine possible local caves or abandoned structures: 1d20+7=13
"We can use my pony Alice if we are desperate for beasts to pull a wagon, though she is a stout pack-animal I bet there are better candidates, at any rate maybe those of us without mounts should start out now and let those with them, and possibly a wagon catch up. It's a long trip we should head out as soon as possible."
"I have no mount either, but if there are some available here in town to borrow, I can probably manage to not fall off one." In any case lets make haste. There were a few men, who looked mighty interested in getting away from the confusion in the Inn, and a couple of them seemed to be heading due North out of town."
damn I knew I should have selected the mount spell
I will return Sachiko's bow "Your company would be most welcome"
A look of relief to Kara as she joins the group (we were looking a bit light on the martial side up to this point)
"What did Win say?....."Don't...trust...after...boy..."?....That is odd."
I rub my goatee before continuing.
"He mentioned something else that struck me as downright peculiar as well. Something about the Blackspears Bandits attacking the Rolsen's family. If I recall correctly the Blackspears Bandits are a band of human brigands, whom were extremely successful in their operations out of the Western River Kingdoms, normal enough until you consider that they were active over 100 years ago. Now either these "Blackspears" are very, very well preserved individuals or something is not right."
"If you're heading to the farm, let's step outside and get ourselves organized. No sense crowding the deputy, there."
I will follow the well dressed Varisian outside the Inn. Once outside:
"I am Deserach" extending my right hand to any whom will take it.
Observant players may notice that the back of my right hand has a series of ancient characters from some unfamiliar language tattooed upon it, the tattoo extends up and under my loose silk sleeves.
I feel revitalized by the healer's wave of energy it leaves me sniffing at the air in an attempt to capture the passing sensation of smelling new rain on the sun-baked desert.
To Jolem; "the Rolsen's farm? how far is it from town?"
Assuming the answer is less then a day, I am ready to go now, with all gear that is not marked as on my pack-animal.
sorry for the late post
to orislav "It would seem the deputy has stumbled upon a band of bandits who seem to be about to rough up some locals up north,...the Rolsens I believe he said.
Once I determine that there is no disturbance out in the street I will follow in Orislav's wake as he approaches the deputy, as I can not really assist in any manner I will do my best to give space and let the experts handle it.
Once the townsfolk begin to run from the building I will return to the door to see if any run towards the Northern route out of town, particularly any that seem suspicious.
in response to Sachiko's querry "I will lend my assistance. Like many of you, it would seem, Win was a friend of mine as well, not to mention that there may be innocents in danger."
Hmm you could call me Rema...and Deserach is complete and ready to go, we are waiting until September to officially kick of still right? Either way is fine, I am on vacation until the 31st so posting will be a bit sporadic until then.
edit: Oops looks like we have started, sorry for my slow reaction will be more diligent with my posting from here on out.
I have seen some games use this website, it makes the roll and gives you a link to paste in the post so that the validity of the roll can be verified if needed. Not sure if this is what GM chris is gonna want us to use, this is my first PbP as well.
Would it fit your character to have spent some time in Korvosa? Would require DM blessing, but might be a venue.
I'd be fine with that, too.
Oh yeah I had forgotten that you only needed to spend a years time in a region to qualify for regional feats. I will take that option under the premise that after my formal training as a wizard in Absalom I traveled to Korvosa to continue more specialized tutelage under the eyes of a Specialized summoner. I will also put a rank in Knowledge: local (Varisia) to support this background. Expect a background journal entry going over these travels in the near future.
Heya GM Chris got a quick question for you about my character. I have been reading the PF campaign setting and came across a feat that represents what I have been scouring all of my d20 books (close to 1000 books) to find, and I found it in the section covering Varisia (PF campaign setting pg 147 sidebar), specifically the Varisian Tattoo feat, now obviously I am not from Varisia so would it be ok to change my character up a bit, specifically origin and human racial stock so that I can take the feat, or more preferably but less likely a variant feat that stems from the ancient Osirian culture?
Anyway no on both is fine, just looking to make the uber-focused conjuration specialist.
Along those same lines, it is never too early to start planning for your prestige class, as I see it currently for pathfinder exclusive prestige classes we only have the 5 in the campaign setting. I presume like all non-PFBeta crunchy bits they would be looked at on a case by case basis. The only prestige class that I am currently interested in is the Master Specialist class from the Complete Mage page 70. No big deal either way.
Looking forward to getting started. I will be away all day tomorrow, have a 14 hour drive ahead of me, will check in late.
A note, by the way, regarding scrolls: the ink you use for scribing them is dimly magic itself, made through an extensive process and requiring a few exotic monster parts. Regular sepia ink wouldn't work for scribing spell-holding scrolls. Generally speaking, the proper eldritch materials for scrolls (and potion brewing) are available in most cities, so there's rarely a problem.
How much does the ink cost, or should we assume that the material cost for writing scrolls is the cost of the ink, for instance a 1st level spell at 1st level caster level is 12.5 gp in materials, is that 12.5 gp in eldritch ink?
1st column, 2nd trait from the second Darkness Players guide page 14. Personally I think the trait might be a bit unbalanced, I have no problem giving it up if you think so as well.
And in regards to the Point Blank Shot I think I was getting it confused with Weapon Focus: Rays. So I assume then that since Point Blank shot does not work with rays then neither would Precise shot. In which case I will probably select another feat.
I have spoken at length with deputy Winston over many pints here at the cold comfort inn, the topic of our discussions vary but often linger on who's who in town, current affairs (the children, where in Nethys name are they coming from) and of course the disappearances that have been troubling him of late.
I will move to Winston's table taking in the sights, before moving to look out a window to see if I can see any commotion or hint to the cause of his misaligned arm.
Good Evening, I am Deserach an Osirian Conjurer of Kehlish descent. I am a good ways north of my homeland which suits me just fine, as my primary goals are to discover new mysteries and explore new lands, all the while chronicling our adventures for future publication.
character is fully complete in profile, I do have one question about the point blank shot feet in the Pathfinder Beta release, would I get the bonus of the feat when using my level 1 conjurer special ability? I believe it works with rays so it seems like it should work with this as well.
Woot very happy to be able to play, I intend to play an Osirion Conjurer, I will roll up the character ASAP, I will be away for the better part of tomorrow as I leave for vacation but should be available consistently after that.
Hey would love to throw my hat into the ring, I have never played a pbp before but am eager to learn. I live on the West coast USA so PST, I have decent availability and anticipate being able to post multiple times a day on all days except for the 20th of August. Anyway very interested.
Character concepts: a dwarven explorer (probably a ranger) or an Osirion Wizard.
Well if they did produce an electronic campaign manager I would buy it in a heart beat, but I am kind of a sucker for that kind of thing. In the mean time I believe that RPGExplorer will be supporting Pathfinder in their character gen software, and they have a GM suite in the works as well.
Stooch (lvl 1 Expert, CG Human) An early teens street vendor/entertainer who has a knack for hearing the right thing at the right time and passing it on to those most interested. "Stoochie", as the locals have begun to call him is an ambitious lad who is unusually tall and gangly his curly hair is unkempt and tangled in knots. He can often be found bouncing around the local markets hawking sweet meats or inexpensive baubles while keeping an eye out for newcomers or travelers in an effort to extract stories or news from abroad. He fancies himself a novice storyteller and is looking to expand his repertoire. When not in the markets he can often be found down on the weathered benches outside Kurdin's Corner Pub listening in awe to Old Cale's stories and poetry.
Hey would love to give a play by post game a chance, have never participated in one before but I love reading them. This being my first post on these boards It would also give this lurker a chance to get involved within the wonderful Paizo community. I live in PST and just a few hours south of Seattle so attending Paizo con II sounds like a blast.
Anyway I know the slots might be taken but figured I should toss my hat in anyway. If anything it bumps my post count from 0 --> 1. 8)
