This may sound like a PR stunt, but it's not.

I've been having some SERIOUSLY weird dreams ever since I started proofing the Shadows of Cthulhu book.

Strange stuff dealing with swimming in stormy water, being chased by hounds through old towns, being lost...

The dreams are violent, too, especially the ones in water. The other dreams I'm having deal mainly with running from things, trying to escape whatever it is that's hunting me.

Maybe I shouldn't unleash this book on you guys..

The preview for Shadows of Cthulhu is up!

you can check it out Here

In MY opinion,

4th edition is Dungeons and Dragons, But it's not the Dungeons and Dragons that I grew up with. It's not the Dungeons and Dragons I welcomed with open arms like I did 3.0/3.5.

It just feels different,to me. Having played that computer game everyone compares it to, I can say the assessment is fair. I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing, BTW. But the implementation of those sorts of elements into the game makes this incarnation of Dungeons and Dragons different enough that I don't know if I could ever embrace it enough to play for more than an occasional game.

Here's Cthulhu, statted for 34th level, True20 style:

Why anyone would ever think of trying to go head to head with him is beyond me, but hey.. You guys are free to try ;)

Cthulhu
Type: 34th Level Outsider (Great Old One)
Size: Colossal
Speed: 90 ft., swim 60 ft., fly 90 ft.
Abilities: Str +14, Dex +3, Con +8, Int +5, Wis+5, Cha +8
Skills: Bluff 37 (+45), Climb 37 (+51), Craft (architecture)
37 (+42), Intimidate 37 (+45), Knowledge (supernatural) 37 (+42), Mythos Knowledge (history, life sciences, physical sciences, theology and philosophy) 37 (+42), Notice 37 (+42), Sense Motive 37 (+42)
Feats: All-out Attack, Cleave, Double Strike, Great Cleave, Hover, Imbue Item, Improved Grab, Iron Will, Move-By Action,Powers(B), Seize Initiative, Tough, Wingover
Traits: Amphibious, Damage Reduction 8/supernatural, Darkvision 120 ft., Fast Healing, Fear Aura, Powers (rank 37, Cha, save Difficulty 35, all powers except elemental powers and curing powers+45), Sanity, Tear.
Combat: Attack +27 (-8 Size, +34 base, +3 Dex,-2 two-weapon), Damage +18 (2 x claws), Defense:Dodge/Parry +29/ - (-8 Size, +34 base, +3 Dex), Initiative+3
Saves: Toughness +20 (+8 Size, +8 Con, +4 natural),
Fortitude +27 (+19 base, +8 Con), Reflex +22(+19 base, +3 Dex), Will +26 (+19 base, +5 Wis, +2 Iron Will)

Combat
Cthulhu can rake though crowds of creatures each round with two attacks from his massive hands, taking advantage of his cleaving ability. He can substitute attacks with one or two of the tentacles on his face, which are each capable of grappling and crushing creatures up to Large size. Cthulhu seeks to destroy any non-worshipers in his vicinity, pursuing them through water, across land, or through the air. If Cthulhu is slain, his
body disintegrates and reforms in a slumbering state back in the depths of R’lyeh, which immediately sinks back to the bottom of the ocean.

Amphibious: Cthulhu can breathe both air and water.

Fast Healing: Cthulhu is not made of the stuff of this earth, so earthly weapons cannot damage him permanently. He makes recovery checks once per round for staggered or unconscious, and once per minute for wounded, disabled or dying. Any damage caused by supernatural weapons heals at the normal rate.

Fear Aura: Anyone who sees Great Cthulhu must succeed on a Difficulty 35 Will save or be affected as though by the fear effect of the Heart Shaping power. A creature that successfully saves is immune to Cthulhu’sappearance for 24 hours. The save Difficulty is Charisma-based.

Sanity: Seeing Cthulhu causes an anxiety disorder (Difficulty 35 Sanity) and a mood disorder (Difficulty39 Sanity).

Tear: If Cthulhu successfully grapples a creature with one of his facial tentacles, he may try to tear the creature apart as a move action. The target of this attack must succeed on a Difficulty 41 Fortitude save or be torn in half.

What system does this use? Since you posted this here in the "d20/OGL board", and not the "Other RPG's" board, I'm going to assume it will be d20/OGL based...

Which I think would be cool, as d20 Cthulhu did not get a whole lot of support (but then, I'm one of the few "weirdo’s" that kind of liked the d20 version of CoC)...

-That One Digitalelf Fellow-

Hiya Digitalelf,

Shadows of Cthulhu will be for the True20 game system.

As I said above, it's incredibly well-written. Proofing has been difficult today, because I catch myself geeking out on adventure ideas and supplements I'd like to do instead of reading the darned thing. *lol*

You can get more information about it on my website:

www.realitydeviants.net

I'm proofing the book now, in preparation for submission to Chaosium for approval. This is one well-written book. It's very faithful to the Lovecraft universe and the Mythos which it inspired. The layout is very evocative, as is the artwork. If you are a fan of Call of Cthulhu, you owe it to yourself to check this book out.

There are a number of backgrounds and 3 new roles which are central to the 1920's, which is the primarily setting. However, these can easily be used in other time periods, such as the modern era. Alternately, if you choose to go the Delta Green Route, this book will do that type of game justice. As you might expect, Shadows of Cthulhu provides you with statted Mythos creatures, rules for Sanity and some new mechanics, like Awareness points, which allow you to unlock mythos traits as your characters gain more knowledge about the "things that should not be." If you've never played a Call of Cthulhu game, we got you covered as well, with adventure suggestions, advice on running a Cthulhu game, and even pregenerated Characters you can use "right out of the box." All in all, this is one hot book.

My compliments to the writers and editors. The werecabbages have delivered yet another fine product.

The first supplement for Darrin Drader's popular True20 campaign setting, Reign of Discordia, is now on sale here at Paizo!

The first supplement, Virus, takes your heroes on a mission to rescue a scientist and his assistant from a raider base in a hollowed-out asteroid, before a group of militant Lamogos can get to them first. What are the scientists carrying that could be so important? Find out in this 21 page adventure!

Reign of Discordia: Virus

Calista Flockheart...

mmmm...

Just a quick note,

The first supplement for Reign of Discordia, "Virus" is uploaded and awaiting approval from the Paizo Staff!

Virus is an adventure designed for a group of 3rd level heroes.

"The galaxy still reels from the last R'Tillek attack in which they were able to depopulate an entire world with the most lethal weapon's grade virus known to exist. A single living sample of the virus has been recovered and entrusted to the top bio-scientist, Doctor Leif Noreck on the planet Eisiu . When the Lamogos attack the world in hopes of obtaining the virus for themselves, Dr. Noreck escapes, only to have his ship captured by raiders after he left the planet. Since his research may be the key to stopping the virus and preventing the deaths of entire planetary populations, it is up to a small band of heroes to recover the doctor before it is too late. Virus leads the heroes from the rogue's haven of the space station Rover's Beacon, into an old hollowed out asteroid that serves as the raider's base of operations, and into a conflict with the militant Lamogos.

Virus is a Reign of Discordia adventure for 3rd level heroes and serves as the first adventure in a loosely connected adventure path that will ultimately help decide the fate of the known galaxy."

In your opinion. Given the continued high sales volume of the first set of 4th Edition books, that opinion appears to be in the minority.

Just curious, but, do you have any numbers to share which back your statement up?

I'm just wondering how you know the sales numbers are so high.

According to WotC the game has already run through its first two print runs and is now on its third. We don't have exact numbers yet, but yes, it was on Amazon's bestseller list (in the top 5, if I recall correctly). It's also safe to assume that it was roughly as high on Barnes & Noble's list. This bodes very well for it, as role-playing games are driven strongly by word-of-mouth. If the game continues to sell well two months into its release, it's getting some excellent press.

Fair enough. Heck they probably are selling well, it's just that when I see someone posting statements like yours, I have to ask how the information was obtained, and whether or not it's verifiable.

Being a publisher, I don't take much stock in top seller lists. It is the summer, it could have been a slow past few months on amazon, what with all the economic issues which come into play during the summer, not to mention high gas prices and any other number of variables which keep people from buying products. So, any product actually selling well enough to be on a "top list" right now might not be doing as well as people think.

If I don't post, it someone else will, so let's get it out of the way now:

[tinfoil hat] Wizards of the Coast have realised that their trap (the GSL) has caught all the 3PP it is ever likely to catch, and so now the time has come to close the trap, crushing those 3PP who have signed upto the GSL. It may perhaps have been sprung a little earlier than they were hoping for, but having run out of victims interested in taking the bait, and with some publishers thumbing their noses by publishing 4E compatible material under the OGL, the time has come to get heavy-handed, and 'for the good of the community' to take out some of those 3PP's whose products occasionally get discussed instead of Wizards' own on their (Wizards of the Coasts') forums. [/tinfoil hat]

I sincerely hope that I am wrong and that it is just an utterly ludicrous conspiracy theory that I have just stated. Someone debunk it, please.

Well, my first thought is, that, if they indeed caught anyone in a "trap" like you said, they just opened the trap again and let them out, because once the new GSL is updated, the companies who had previously signed on won't be bound by the old terms.

This is very good news! A step in the right direction for WotC.
I am sorry but being a 3rd party publisher, I am even MORE skeptic to the GSL. WOTC could have done this from the beginning, but they didn't because they thought they did not have to make the GSL 3PP friendly. But now since they have lost just about all the major 3rd party publishers support for 4th edition, now WOTC feels it is time to "do the right thing” and support 3PP with a “new” GSL. This is just another misstep in the whole release in 4th edition from WOTC. I have to wonder, how long 3PP are going to have to wait to see this new revised GSL? Maybe six months to a year. I don't know too many companies that can wait that long (who have already waited a year to release 4th Edition) just to see this new license.

QFT!!

Welcome to the Future!

Written by werecabbages Matt Conklin, Hal Maclean and Patrick Smith, Interface-Zero is the first book in a new, groundbreaking cyberpunk setting by Reality Deviant Publications.

IZ brings your True20 game up to speed with the dark, frenetic world of 2088. Future sourcebooks and adventures will further add to the bleeding edge setting presented in this core book.

Didja Bring Your Gun?

Within the pages of Interface-Zero, you can match wits with ancient triad lodge masters, anarchist hackers and digitalized corporate moguls. Thwart the machinations of the New Chinese Mandarinate or the Theocratic UCSA. Stare down the end of your gauss rifle at cybered ganglanders or match nano-woven steel against gene-spliced hybrids and borg shock troopers.

Interface-Zero is 162 pages full of setting, history, rules, and mechanics you can use to upgrade any True20 game. IZ’s main book includes:

  • New rules for living in the augmented reality world of the future!
  • Expanded Computer Rules!
  • Six new Roles (Hacker, Icon, Martial Adept, Rake, Technician, and Tough)
  • Over 20 New Backgrounds from AIs to Wasteland dwellers!
  • Armor, Equipment, Robots, Weapons and Vehicles!
  • New Feats!
  • Viruses, and Do-it-yourself programs!
  • New Cybernetics and Biogenetic Upgrade Rules!
  • Megaconglomerations and Rogue Nation-States!
  • Tips for Players and Narrators both new and veteran!
  • Over 40 Allies, Antagonists and Threats for use in your game!

Welcome to the Interface, let's hope you survive it.

Hey guys,

Thanks for your kind words! I'm really glad you like it.

Darrin did an outstanding job on this setting, and Robert Stefko turned it into a beautiful book.

Keep an eye out for more releases for Reign of Discordia soon.

Hi Guys,

I bought this and 2 other .pdfs (A Touch of Evil Volume 3: Gnolls & A Touch of Evil Volume 5: Kobolds) as part of Order #990779.

Both of the others were fine, but when I download (or open for that matter) Hobgoblins, there is nothing in the Zip Folder, even though it says it has downloaded 8.6MB of info and the Properties says there is 8.6MB of info there!
View Hidden Files and Folders is selected, so it's not a Hidden File.
I also tried downloading it again. No Dice.

Just wonderin' "What's Goin' Down in Chinatown"? =)
Cheers

Hiya, This is david Jarvis of reality deviant Publications.

I'm sorry you're having so much trouble with this.

Email me at:

And I'll get you sorted out ASAP

I've been having issues all morning.

Actually longer, but it's been really bad this morning.

Greetings,

I've taken the advice of some people in regards to the layout/page spread, and the new version can be veiwed Here.

I think this one is much better!

oh, the runes... they actually say something.

I might run a promotion whereby the first 4 people to decipher it get a free copy of a future Cthulhu product. ;)

Hi everyone,

First off, I want to thank you all for your interest!

I really appreciate it, and I hope you enjoy what we'll be bringing to the table for Shadows of Cthulhu and the followup supplements!

I'm offering up a (Cthulhu approved) sample of what the interiors are going to look like for the (Full color no less) Shadows of Cthulhu book.

Keep in mind, the book is NOT ready for release. We're still working on it.

That said, enjoy this little sample of things to come.

Cthulhu sample layout

I've just seen the perliminary graphic design for the Shadows of Cthulhu.
This book is going to be HOT. It'll be a full color book, which will probably make it more expensive, but trust me, it'll be worth every penny.

The writing is outstanding (I'm reading through the first draft now). Russ brown and Ted Reed are earning every penny on this puppy.

You should know that I don't take a license to do true20 Call of Cthulhu products lightly. I'm every bit a fan of the genre as anyone else is, and I won't put out shoddy product.

You might consider checking out some of my other books to get an idea of the quality I set for my products.

http://paizo.com/store/downloads/realityDeviantPublications/true20

I hope this alleviates some of your concerns.

If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask. :)

The contracts are signed in blood, the sacrifices have been made, and mighty Cthulhu has bestowed his blessings. Reality Deviant Publications is happy to announce we are the newest Chaosium licensee! RDP will focus on support of the True20 game system by bringing fans of all things Cthulhu outstanding game supplements which bring H.P. Lovecraft’s deliciously maddening Mythos to life!

“I am so excited about this agreement with the fine people at Chaosium,” said David Jarvis, president of RDP. “I’ve always wanted the chance to write and develop gaming material based on H.P. Lovecraft’s works. To be officially allowed to add our own pages to his legacy is a privilege, one which we don’t take lightly. Fans of True20 and Call of Cthulhu won’t be dissapointed.”

"We look forward to seeing what visions Reality Deviant Publications can share with the greater Call of Cthulhu gaming community. Their enthusiasm is certainly contagious! " Dustin Wright, Chaosium Games

Over the course of 2008, Reality Deviant Publications will produce a number of sourcebooks for the True20 game system. The first, “Shadows of Cthulhu” will introduce you to the True20 Cthulhu game and provide you with everything you need to get you started on your descent into madness! The only other book you’ll need is True20 Adventure Roleplaying, published by Green Ronin.

Shortly after the release of the Shadows of Cthulhu core book, Reality Deviant Publications plans to release three supplements describing specific Cthonic settings. RDP will release one new supplement approximately every 2 months.

SUPPLEMENT #1: ELIZABETHAN ENGLAND
Terrible things lurk at the edges of civilization in the age of Shakespeare and the rise of English Puritanism. While this book contains some new options and suggestions for hero creation, it is primarily a guidebook for understanding the role of the Cthulhu Mythos during this period. Did the Master of Revels close the playhouses because Kit Marlowe's final play drove people mad? Is it really the Catholics that conspire to take over the crown, or are there more sinister forces involved? And what of the terrible rumors about the freak storms that drove the Spanish Armada into the sea? What really happened to the failed English colonies in the New World?

SUPPLEMENT #2: ANCIENT SUMARIA
The origins of much of mankind's knowledge of the Cthulhu Mythos lies at the beginning of history, in the river valleys of Mesopotamia. This is a period when dreams mean something and demons openly walk the Earth. But this is also an age when many of the secrets known to man since the dawn of time are suppressed or transformed into man-made religions. It is the beginning of modern sanity. The people of this period still understand the power of the gods over them, but they have established a civilization and feel the first flush of power over nature and their oppressive deities. And they have Gilgamesh. This heroic figure, known as Sha nagba imuru, or the “one who saw all,” was proof that a man with enough knowledge could transcend the power of the gods.

SUPPLEMENT #3: ELDERS UNLEASHED!
When the stars are right, the earth will fall, but not without a fight! In an age when ancient secrets are no longer secret and gigantic elder beings have destroyed entire cities and killed millions on the evening news, mankind struggles to survive and stay sane. Civilization has completely collapsed in some parts of the world, and many major cities are deserted nuclear wastelands, testaments to how far leaders will go to stop the madness. But order still hangs by a thread in green zones patrolled by paranoid police forces. Special troops are equipped to identify and engage the unthinkable, then forget everything they did and saw. Scientists and scholars study the artifacts of the enemy in secret research facilities, always under the watchful eye of soldiers looking for any sign that they're “crossing over.” Only the very brave or truly insane travel the world at large.

What is Interface-Zero?

Interface-Zero is the True20 cyberpunk game from Reality Deviant Publications, combining elements of classic cyberpunk, post-cyberpunk, bio-punk and a touch of Japanese anime.

The world of 2088 is filled with adventure from the formerly-United States of North America, to the state run business arcologies of the New Chinese Mandarinate, from the Deep Net, to deep space and beyond.

Who’s writing it?
Matt Conklin is the primary writer. It is his dystopic vision which will suck you in and leave you begging for more.

What books do you need to play Interface-Zero?
Aside from Interface-Zero itself, you will need copies of Green Ronin’s True20 Adventure Roleplaying, and the True20 Companion. As both of them are being re-released as one book it’s even easier. Narrators might want to pick up other books such as the True20 Bestiary but as of now those books are optional.

What do you get with Interface-Zero?

The future history of the next 80 years, featuring Imperial China, theocratic South America, The One Day War, the Second North American Civil War, and the latest advances in genetics, computing, pop culture, and nanotechnology.

Easy to follow rules for creating your own cyberpunk hero.

New rules covering: cybernetics, genetic upgrades and moving through, and fighting in virtual reality. Now your team’s hacker isn’t the only one having fun in the net.

Narrator tips on how to run your own series of Interface-Zero adventures.

A sample short adventure: Strays

And one custom character sheet for you to copy, use and later spill red pop on.

Over a dozen new backgrounds featuring:

Conglomerate – You were born and raised in a corporate arcology, and trained in marketable skills.

Dilettante – You come from money.

Ganglander – Born in the sprawlands you have come to rely upon your fellow gang members for security.

Governmental Bureaucracy – You know the ins and outs of governmental information flow.

Human 2.0 – Engineered at birth to be more than human, you are more intelligent and enduring than your fellow man.

Hybrid – Gene cross-spliced with animal DNA you have the abilities (and occasionally looks and demeanor) of the beasts you have been crossed with.

Ismist – A true believer you would do anything to see your cause flourish.

Military – You have been instilled with a sense of discipline and military training.

Security Enforcement – Your time in security work has made you an effective peace officer.

Sprawlander – In the sprawl you never know who you’ll run in to, so you have become adept at diplomacy and blending in.

Underworld – You have been raised in the midst of organized crime.

Unplugged – Unable or unwilling to adapt to virtual life in the MediaWeb, you remain unplugged.

Wastelander – You have lived among the ruins or wastelands outside the domes.

Whiz Kid – A prodigy, you are often more skilled than the adults around you.

Combat Simulacrum – You have forged into a living weapon.

Labor Simulacrum – You where distilled to do the jobs that are considered too hazardous or demeaning for man to do.

Recreational Simulacrum – You have been created to be mankind’s plaything.

Six new roles including:

The Hacker – The wizards of the hyper reality world, hackers not only control information, but virtual reality as well.

The Icon – Media idols of the future they can shape personal and public opinion with a few subtle phrases, or carefully engineered sound bites.

The Martial Adept – Master of an esoteric fighting style, martial adepts are living weapons, assassins and kensai.

The Rake – Skilled operators and specialists, rakes make clever and resourceful troubleshooters.

The Technician – These crafters have the know-how to build, and repair nearly anything including you.

The Tough – Physical powerhouses, toughs can withstand a beating and dish one out as well.

Over 40 Allies, Antagonists, and Contacts to populate your game with from the lowly mook all the way up to the ancient triad master. Rub shoulders with the corporate elite, fixers, spindoctors, icons, and simulacrum or duke it out with ganglanders, hackers, security contractors, rogue AIs, and murderous thuggee assassins.

Core Concepts:

The TAP: In Interface-Zero, humanity wades through a sea of media all filtered through a cybernetic nanodevice lodged inside their brain known as a TAP. The TAP is your all-in-one media center replacing your cell phone, digital camera, PDA, text messenger, email, blog, chatroom, school, Yahoo! Personals, MySpace, computer, ipod, Wii, MMORPG, Google Maps, GPS, satellite radio, cable, and more.

Hyper Reality World: The TAP comes complete with a Hyperlinked (augmented) Reality interface that allows you to “click” on real world items outfitted with hyperlink technology and gain more information about them than you would have if you just looked at it otherwise. Anything imaginable is possible from tutorials, to threat assessments.

The Neo World Village: The future is a very cosmopolitan place with exotic human animal genetically spliced hybrids and monstrous chimera, as well as sentient AI’s, humanlike simulacrums, digital rendered consciousnesses, and second-stage humans (or 2.0’s).

So how is Interface-Zero different from my old “cyberpunk” game?
First off, it’s user-friendlier. Done up in True20, Interface-Zero tries to live up to it’s name by eliminating as many proud meta-game nails as possible and deliver a smooth RPG experience. It’s a game for everyone, but definitely written with the new player or Narrator in mind. IZ’s still got all the gunplay and mono whips of your dad’s cyberpunk, but it also incorporates some post cyberpunk, bio-punk, and anime influences, with a slightly more modern eye, giving Interface-Zero a bit more versatility at the game table. Now you can play the elite corporate security power armor team, a group of emergent artificial intelligences dwelling in the deep net, a local street triad, or whatever you and your group decide. It’s a big old world out there for you to explore.

And best of all, no elves….

The Singularity event is right around the corner so buckle in, things are about to get interesting.

Any questions?

Hiya Kohl,

Thanks for your interest!

True20 is based off the D20 system, but there are some differences. It is close enough though that you shouldn't have any serious problems converting true20 to D20.

The true20 core rules provide guideliens for converting D20 to True20, so you can always look at those to get an idea of what they did.

Thanks again!

Reality Deviant Publications is pleased to announce plans to convert Rogue Games’ Colonial Gothic to the True20 game system!

From the product description:

“It is the dawn of the American Revolution. Forces are at work that will shake the very fabric of the fragile Colonies. While England deploys troops to the Colonies to put an end to the rebellion, darker forces are at work that are using these events to unleash their pent up rage. Plots are afoot, events are taking place behind the scenes, and agents with their own agenda are lurking in the shadows.”

Combining the real world history of the American Colonial Period, and adding in supernatural horror, Colonial Gothic is the world only a few know that exists. Magic is real; Agents of the Occult and Supernatural stalk the night. To make things even worse, the events of the revolution has engulfed the colonies making life even more unpredictable.

“I’ve always wanted to write speculative fiction and RPG supplements dealing with this exciting period in American History.” Said David Jarvis; “The War for Independence provides so many great opportunities for adventure. Throw in elements of the supernatural, and you add another exciting element to this tumultuous period. Rogue Games have done this fantastically with Colonial Gothic. I can’t wait to combine this dark setting with the outstanding True20 system.”

“Colonial Gothic is a game that I have been playing and designing in one form or another for close to twenty years,” said Richard Iorio II, President and co-Owner of Rogue Games, Inc. “I am pleased beyond words that people have enjoyed my take on the period, as well as enjoyed learning about the secret history of the colonial period. I am excited that more people, who might not have known of the game, will have an opportunity to play it.”

Look for The True20 version of Colonial Gothic in PDF and Print format in July, 2008.
