I do like reading the stuff you post I just honestly know very little about the setting. I've read the books, watched all the shows but there is just so much backstory to it that I don't know anything about it. My brain is full of all of the Fluff for the Wheel of Time and Malazan Book of the Fallen. I can't add a third huge set of Fluff. Lol

He is met with the blade of his opponent, driving deep in to his chest, taking him to the edge of consciousness. Mateo takes 5 damage. As Mateo clings to his chest, he is suddenly bathed in a square of bright light, as the trap door opens from above. He hears a womans voice, before Sandara drops lightly to his side, drawing her cutlass and staring daggers at the men. "Need help love?" She casts Mateo a quick grin, before pulling up short and reaching out to lay a hand on his chest, before a wave of golden energy that tastes like sea spray, sounds like the crash of waves and feels like a warm current, washes over him. After a week of little to no internet access I (tentatively) return. This part is really bogged down so I am going to simplify it and push us along, if no one has any complaints. Aq, just for future reference I'm gonna rule that blood frenzy doesn't work outside of combat. You also need to actually suffer damage to activate it. Sorry if that seems unfair. The day progresses slowly and tiresomely until everyone is wet from one or more dunk in the drink, tired from throwing and climbing and thoroughly sun baked. At the end of the day, Riaris declares you all boarding ready and you are let free to do what you wish with your nights. Night Time actions occur here- A Cold Wind Rising- DM Rolls:
Woooo! As the day dawns bright and early there is a feel of something wrong in the air. As you make your way up on deck for breakfast you are, as usual, met by a grinning Scourge. He hands out Jobs as usual, sending Sasha up the ropes to do rigging work, Chandria to go help Kroop and Dacota and Bleepos to scrub the decks. He turns to Linnet and Aqguazula, the last two in line, his smile growing unpleasant. "You will be runnin messages fer the Officers today girl. Go see Peppery, she will have something for you I'm sure." As the others head off on their jobs, he turns to Aq. "There is a bit more water in the brig than we be needin, the pumps need to be manned. You and two of the boys will be working them for the day. Leave yer gear in yer locker, it'll be too cramped with all of yeh down there. The boys are waiting so get to it!" Rigging-The ship’s rigging frequently gets damaged and must be repaired, requiring Climb checks to reach the rigging 30 feet up, followed by Profession (sailor) or Dexterity check. Swabbing - Backbreaking work mopping the decks and scrubbing them with sandstone blocks called holystones, requiring a Strength or Constitution check. Failing either check results in the PC being fatigued at the end of the shift. Messenger - Passing messages to the crew and officers of the Wormwood in all parts of the ship except officers’ cabins (areas A4 and A5), requiring an Acrobatics check and Constitution check. Failing the Constitution check results in the PC being fatigued at the end of the shift. A PC with the Run feat automatically succeeds at this task. Bilge Work - Vile and sweaty work cleaning out the bilges (area A11), requiring a Strength check. The PC must also make a Constitution check to avoid being fatigued at the end of the shift. All of you will be separated for the duration of the day so please post your replies in spoilers to keep them private. Aqguazula:
Scourge walks you down to the Bilges, making sure you leave your things in your bunk, before closing the hatch behind you as you climb down in to the oppressive darkness. You catch sight of two men already there, dressed in leather vests, sweating over the pump in the early morning heat. They nod at you as you enter but return to their work, refusing to talk much. Aq Sense Motive DC 20:
After awhile your hackles begin to rise. The men are tense, you can sense blood in the air and you are 99% sure they mean it to be yours. Aq Perception DC 15:
The mens gear lies within easy reach, both of them have belts holding cutlasses and waterskins, along with pouches you assume hold gold. Bleepos and Dacota:
Rosie waits at the back storage compartment and smiles when you both enter. "Well hello there gentelmen. Swabbin the decks with me hey? Good good, better to be here than below. Too hot by far today. We will boil but the sea air will keep us cool hopefully. You are lookin better little green. Glad to see you back on yer feet." B&D Sense Motive DC 15:
Rosie seems nervous. She keeps watching Scourge during the day and gets more and more nervous every time he crosses near the mid mast locker. Perception check for Bleepos and Dacota dependent on the Sense Motive. B&D Perception DC 15:
Inside the mid mast locker, while retrieving equipment, you find a small pouch containing a set of keys. Chandria Main:
Chandria makes her way down below and to the galley, finding Kroop sitting at a table, a fresh pot of delicious smelling stew already boiling away, and two bottles of rum waiting. He looks up as Chandria enters and smiles, pushing one of the mugs of rum towards her and pointing to a chair. [b]"Did I ever tell ya abou the time I served the Hurricane King himself...?" With that he launches in to a long winded tale.
Bull Session-Drinking with Ambrose Kroop and listening to his stories. The cook’s mate must drink an additional rum ration, but is able to take an additional ship action during the day. Chandria Perception DC 10:
In the clutter of the room Chandria managed to find two dusty vials of a minty green potion. Chandria Perception DC 20:
Chandrias eyes gravitate to the wall of the Galley where she finds three harpoons. The most eye catching item however is a grappling hook, attached to 50 feet of demisilk, which appears to repel the dust and dirt. Linnet:
Linnet finds Peppery in her study. The woman is sitting at a heavy desk, surrounded by wonderous oddities and stacks of books and parchment. She looks up as Linnet enters and smiles before gesturing towards a seat. "Sit child, please. I have some notes to be passed to the Carpenters and to Plugg but I am not finished writing them. Please take your ease for a moment!" Linnet Perception DC 10:
Linnets eyes are drawn to a small bound chest on a table in the corner of the room. The chest is partially open, as it is too full, and appears to be filled with gold and jewels, a lot of gold and jewels. Linnet Perception DC 20:
Hanging on a peg by the door is a weather worn cloak which shines slightly and gives off a slight aura.[/ooc] Sasha:
The rigging has been twisted about by the winds and turned in to a confusing lot. As you climb up you are greeted by a small Halfling who smiles at you welcomingly. "Ello Miss Sasha, and how are you today?" Ratline grins as he shimies along a rat line and begins to un f~%# some of the rigging. Sasha Perception DC 10:
Sasha spots Scourge and Plugg arguing on the aft deck but can not quite hear what is going on. Sasha Perception DC 20:
Towards evening time Sasha spots something interesting and possibly worthwhile, Sails on the Horizon. Woops. Your Character bit got lost in Linnets because of Formatting Sasha, sorry. Fixing it now.

Ali smiled and shook his head softly before taking a long drink from his mug. "Me? Tutor? Nah, all of this," he gestured to himself and his crossbow, "all of the magic, all of the bluster? Dumb luck. I was born with an innate ability to rip sentient beings from their homes and force them in to battle to protect me. Not really all that inspiring..." "Vandra though, that kid is the real deal. To do what he did, trap a soul and transfer it in to a living creature, while keeping the soul intact enough to remain sentient, to keep their memories... Dude has serious magical ability. And Maria? All of the force of will of a dragon and the subtlety of a whisper on the wind. And to keep herself going through all of it at such a young age? She is pretty amazing..." He frowned in to his drink before downing it. "That of course isn't to even speak about Furnok or yourself, weapons like silvery gleams of death, cutting down evil with all of the strength of Gorum and the finesse of Cayden Cailean himself. Truly without you our little group would have fallen long ago." He nodded. "Which of course brings us to the linchpin of the group, our heart, our soul, the only pure being among us, Cleo. She is our saviour, that is for sure. She keeps us healthy, keeps us sane, or well at least she does me..." he trailed off, staring in to the empty mug. "I'm just a two bit slave master forcing bigger, more powerful beings to fight for me. Not something any kid should look up to." He looked up with a smile when another drink was suggested, and nodded. "Aye. It's on me. Same again or something stronger?"

Mateo- Tilly looks at the man before laughing softly. "Aye, it is strong isn't it? You did just swallow a tonne of it and all too. Poor lad. You'll be sick in the morning I'd bet." Mateo and Tilly chat for awhile over small things, the fact that those who attacked them were either beholden to Scourge in some way, or his fanatic lackies (Tilly being the former as she tries to keep herself out of the hands of Maheem, by being useful to the Master). The crew is firmly loyal to the Officers, though some are disgruntled, Tilly, Ratline, Kroop, and Cog to name just a few. DAY 4- The day dawns bright and early to the sound of tolling bells. You roll from your bunks and set feet on the wooden planks, stretching as you greet the new day. Mateo and Vex feel sour gutted and shaken, and still a bit drunk. Mateo and Vex are sickened. As you make your way up on deck, you are all greeted by breakfast, ships biscuits and watered red wine again, lucky dogs. You are also greeted by a grinning Scourge. "Ello poppets, how are you this fine morning? Wait... no I don't give a f$~*!" His grin becomes a sneer as he points towards the back locker. "Yer all to scrub the deck this mornin so get to it, all of you, Rigger and Cooks Apprentice and all." With that he storms off to give out other tasks to the other crew. Cuff Day/Night 2- You can't take 10 on Climb checks, due to RAW and taking 10 on Job checks is also impossible as you are being actively judged on whether you fail or not. But your rolls looked mostly good anyway. Cuffs day passes pretty uneventfully as he works hard to get his task done. When he is returning the work gear to the locker, he spots something interesting in the bottom corner. Cuff:
There appears to be a false bottom to the locker, and inside you find a purse heavy with coin. You found 20gp, 14sp and 20cp. DM Rolls:
1d4 ⇒ 31d8 ⇒ 61d3 ⇒ 2 Cuff gains a +3 Alchemical bonus to CHA, is fatigued for 6 hours and takes a temporary -2 CON damage Cuff Day/Night 3- Cuffs third day goes just about the same. Finished replacing the topsail, he takes his rest in the crows nest for a moment and sits back, string out over the ship. As he is watching, he catches sight of a small halfling man, being bullied by the man, Maheem as he goes about his work. The Halfling is taking it in good sport, but Cuff notices his work is suffering because of it. DM Rolls:

Greetings you godless curs and welcome to my recruitment for the Skulls and Shackles AP. If you are reading this then it is safe to assume that you lily livered landlubbers are sick of your safe and stable lives and you thirst for a touch of adventure. I am new to DMing PbP, this will be my first game, and although I have run Skulls and Shackles before, I do ask for patience. I am also not all that consistent, I can be flaky and absent, but I will not disappear for more than a day or two at a time, I can promise that. If you can deal with both of these small details, then I can offer you a (hopefully) fun game. I am big on party building and heavy role playing, but not to the exclusion of roll playing, if you catch my meaning. With the success of the Humble Bundle (Everyone should be proud of that. Well done guys!), we have a lot of new people on the site, so I am going to cater to them but not exclude more experienced players at the same time. I am looking for interesting character ideas and party dynamics, rather than an ironclad knowledge of the rules. So without further adieu, let’s get down to brass tacks - The Skulls and Shackles AP is a Sea Based piratey adventure that will see you shanghaied at the start of the first book, and forced to work on the decks of the Wormwood, the flagship of Free Captain Barnabas Harrigan. Mechanics:
Races- All Core races accepted but I will allow non standard races on a case by case basis. I am pro Human I will say, but that does not mean I am anti any race. Except for Drow. I am not a fan of Drow, just my personal feelings. I will still accept a Drow character, if they have an interesting enough concept behind them. Ability Scores- This recruitment will be using the point buy system, detailed here on the table titled “Ability Score Costs”. You have 20 points to spend as you will. Furthermore, no character may have a score higher than 20 or lower than 8, after racial bonuses and negatives have been applied. Accepted Material- I will accept any and all Paizo material* but will have to accept 3pp only after looking it over thoroughly. I haven’t used much of it so I am not comfortable with it. I will say that Path of War is a no go for me. *Technology guide doesn’t really fit in this part of the world but I can be convinced Classes- As stated above I will accept any and all Paizo material, with the exception of the original Summoner. Unchained Summoner is fair game and replaces the original Summoner. Archetypes tied to the Technology guide may not make much sense, but I could be argued around to them. Skills- I really like the use of background skills, I think it brings a new depth to characters when they have extra skill points for the option of profession skills and the like. Background skills and their explanation can be found here. HP- Full HD at every level. You are badass sword swinging pirates not sniveling dogs who can be killed easily. Gold and Equipment- Full gold for your class at first level but you do not start with access to your gear, as per the AP. Traits- Three traits, one of which must be a Campaign trait, from the Skulls and Shackles Players guide, and one drawback. Characters, like people, should have flaws so choose one that makes sense and build it into your PC. Alignment- No CE allowed. That leaves you 7 other viable alignment options to go for, so it isn’t that big a deal. CE usually ends up just being disruptive and annoying, in my opinion, so I don’t want it. And as this is a pirate based campaign, LG is also not really something that makes sense. If there is anything I have forgotten here, please let me know. Mechanics are a small but important part of character creation. Listed below are the Fluff aspects of your character I would like filled out - Character:
Backstory- A short backstory, telling me how your character came to be in this position, why he is in a position to be shanghaied. Also name drop one NPC from your background, who your character has some bond with. Appearance- Height, weight, hair colour and eye colour. Does your character have any defining scars? Do they wear any jewelry or have any tattoos? How do they dress? Motivation- What drives your character in general? Revenge? A need to be famous? A thirst for gold? What goals do they have before being shanghaied and now after the fact? Favourite Colour- Favourite Meal- Theme Tune- The last three are just for fun, but are a good exercise in terms of trying to feel more tied to a character. So I think that is mostly it, just one thing left to do and that is deal with formatting. There are a lot of different ways to format a character sheet on the site, and I do not think my way is the best, but it is the way I am most comfortable using so… I have spoilered a template below, that can be copy/pasted into a profile and filled in. Formatting:
_____________________________________________ [b]Race[/b\] [b]Gender[/b\] [b]Age[/b\] [b]Class[/b\] [b]Init[/b\] +; [b]Senses[/b\] Perception +, Survival + _____________________________________________ [b]BUFFS AND CONSUMABLES[/b\] _____________________________________________ _____________________________________________
*Remove the \ in each set of closing square brackets. So that is everything. I will leave recruitment open for a week, so closing will be on the 12th of March at Midnight (UTC-3:30). I look forward to seeing all of your applications. - The Changing Tide (DarkestHeart)

Ali frowns again, but shrugs. "Fine. Don't die right? And don't do anything stupid!" 'You aren't really going to suggest we...' 'Do you think YOU can change her mind? She hasn't had to answer to anyone her whole life. We can tail her I guess and just watch from a distance?' Ali glanced over at Azeri and as their eyes met his vision swam. For just a moment he caught a view of himself, as if he was looking in a mirror, but... taller. 'What the hell was that?' 'I... I don't know. I think I looked through you!" He closed his eyes for a moment and began to focus on that ever present thread, between Azeri and himself. He could tell what the other man was feeling, how his wounds ached and how he was tired and hungry but now... If he focused he could catch scents he had never smelled before, old liquor, oiled metal and a soft loamy smell he could not identify. He could hear clearer and staring out in to the night, he could see further, out beyond the lamps, if in a strange grey shade, but still. "I can see everything you see, hear everything you hear and smell everything you smell... I can FEEL what you feel!" He stared up at Azeri, eyes wide and unfocused slightly as he stared back down at himself. "By the gods I need a drink, yes..."

Ali collapses to his knees, his chin resting on his chest, his long hair hanging down over his face. He unloads his crossbow with numb hands, returning the bolt to his quiver and dropping the crossbow on the ground, before sitting back on his heels. He reached deep down inside and, with a fight, kindled his power to life. He stoked that fire deep in his chest and felt the wounds anew, but dull and faded now. He drew a few runes from within, those of loyalty, summoning and protection, letting them well up in his palm, before he lay it lightly on the ground where they burst with a flash of light. Resting under his hand, after the light had receded, was a dog, its tongue lolling and its tail wagging. Ali smiled, rubbing the dog between the ears, before finally taking a shuddering breath. "Silly old bear..." The dog tilted his head and woofed lightly, before licking Ali on the cheek. and rubbing his head over his face. "I'll see you tomorrow old friend..."

Ali shakes his head and grins, as Azeri ordered the strongest drink in the competition. It seemed like the Eidolon was dedicated in taking home the prize, at all costs. He grabbed a goblet of wine from a passing waitress and paid her, tipping her some silver and a smile, before glancing around. He looked up just in time to watch Helgarr step outside, looking a little uneasy. 'I wonder what is up there...' He glanced at Azeri before shrugging and standing up, moving after the woman. 'Eh, he will be fine without me.' Stepping out in to the cool night air, Ali took a deep breath in through his nose, before letting out a relaxing sigh. "You can still smell the faint hint of burning wood and tarp from here. You will for a few days, at least you could when the Church burned down. It will do good however, no one will forget the danger we faced tonight, not too quickly. Plenty of people grieve tonight, but we few who are spared that, we can still celebrate one thing, being alive!" He took a step up beside Helgarr, taking a sip of wine, not looking at her but following her gaze out in to the empty streets. "You seem troubled and unhappy, you have since we questioned the Goblin. I share that unease. His words rung true to my ears, he had not the air of dishonesty about him, but he was just a peon. He did not know enough to be truly worthwhile." He nodded, leaning against one of the wooden pillars of the Tavern. "I held to my word and let him go and yes... after we found the body of that little child, that was a hard thing to do. I felt... it felt like I was robbing her parents of their vengeance but truth be told... If I had simply stuck my knife in his throat, I would be no better than the rest of his ilk. Who knows, maybe he will change his ways, he is smart, he knows we spared him. Maybe he will take a stand and try change others. It is a pretty thought yes?" He shrugged, taking another sip of wine. "You are a mighty warrior Helgarr. We were lucky to have you with us tonight, and are even luckier to have known you in the first place. Fate brings us all together for a reason maybe? I can not say, Mar'a would be the one to ask that. But I do know that paths meet and intertwine in accordance with the plans the gods have for us. So by the grace of Desna, of Shelyn and Erastil, of all of the gods, we stood shoulder to shoulder this night and protected this town. And we did a damn good job!" He smiled at her, arching an eyebrow, before shrugging. "What do I know, I'm only 15!"

He jolted upright, breathing heavily, the thin sheet falling away from his chest, a cold sweat running down his back. He glanced at the clock on the bedside table and groaned softly to himself. '5am? I just got to bed...' He sighed and propped himself against the headboard of the bed, reaching over to the nightstand and grabbing the rolled cigarette and zippo. He flicked open the lighter and sparked it to life for a second, inhaling as he stuck the tip of the cigarette in the flame, before flipping the lighter closed again. As he took a slow drag of the sweet tobacco, he glanced at the still sleeping woman lying on her front beside him, facing away from him. 'Gina? Tina? Paris? Man I was so f!!$ed up last night I don't even know...' He shrugged, exhaling a ring of smoke that hung in the neon glow from the billboard across the street. As he smoked, he rubbed his hand under his nose, an old habit he was trying to kick. 'What kind of a f#*#ing dream was that? Too much time listening to those f!!@ed up stories man. Drug addicts are f@++ing morons, talking about all that superstitious b$%#+@&@. Deadbeats.' He shrugged, swinging his legs out over the edge of the bed and standing slowly, walking to his discarded jeans and pulling a little plastic bag from his pocket. He dipped his little finger in to the bag and the white powder in it, before pulling it out and inhaling it through his left nostril. 'Hypocrite much? 'Yeah so what? I can stop any time I like. Doesn't make me a f%$!ing addict if I just like a bump in the morning!' He wasn't really arguing with anyone, he was just thinking to himself too hard, it happened after a late night of work and partying. Equinox, the club he DJ at was fast becoming one of the most popular venues in the city, mostly because of the live entertainment. 'Motherf+&@ing world wide superstar. Just you f$@&ing wait and see!' He grunted as he pulled on a pair of black sweatpants and crossed the room, opening the door to the small balcony and stepping out in to the cool morning air. He leaned against the railing, bare arms pressed against the cold metal, as he stared out over the city. "Man I f*ing hate this place..." "What'd you say baby?" came the sleepy voice of the woman from inside. He heard movement, it sounded like she was getting up. He glanced back inside and frowned through the dark. 'Tara? F&~+...' "I just said I sure hope my bed is empty when I get back inside!" There was a long pause, before a flurry of movement. "You are such a f@&&ing a~@$@$% Xander, you know that?" "And that's why you still f!#*ing love me baby. Don't let the door hit ya where the good Zeus split ya!" "F!%& YOU XANDER!" The door slammed behind her as she stormed out of the apartment. "And that ladies and gentlemen is why you never bang an ex..." Xander laughed softly as he tossed the end of his cigarette over the balcony. 'Maybe today won't be so bad after all. Well... After I bring Tara some roses and apologize for being a douche that is.' Dotting

A Charismatic hero can only charm Gamemaster characters with attitudes of indifferent or better. The charm bonus can’t be used against characters who are unfriendly or hostile. Favor: The Charismatic hero has the ability to acquire minor aid from anyone he or she meets. By making a favor check, a Charismatic hero can gain important information without going through the time and trouble of doing a lot of research. Favors can also be used to acquire the loan of equipment or documents, or to receive other minor assistance in the course of an adventure. A Charismatic hero spends 1 action point to activate this talent. To make a favor check, roll a d20 and add the character’s favor bonus, equal to the character’s Charismatic level. The GM sets the DC based on the scope of the favor being requested. The DC ranges from 10 for a simple favor to as high as 30 for formidable and highly dangerous, expensive, or illegal favors. A Charismatic hero can’t take 10 or 20 on this check, nor can the hero retry the check for the same (or virtually the same) favor. Favors should help advance the plot of an adventure. A favor that would enable a character to avoid an adventure altogether should always be unavailable to the character, regardless of the result of a favor check.
I didn't know what deities we were using so I just went with the Greek. And I didn't know how much cash I should have so I just left out that and gear for now. Basically he is a DJ in one of the Clubs in Spire City. He is cocky, narcissistic and self involved. He has a cocaine addiction and tends to just use and abuse people. He believes he is a lot more famous than he is and thinks he is better than most people.

Well you are s*%% out of luck today F%%~-o the Clown. There ain't no tricks behind old lead and gunpowder!" Revolver-1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 282d6 + 2 ⇒ (2, 6) + 2 = 10 Pathfinder-1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 102d4 + 2 ⇒ (4, 2) + 2 = 8 Xander glances around, looking for a position that would allow him to lead the creepy creature away from the others. Perception-1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10 Move-5ft Step sideways, keeping him in sight. Attack-Shoot twice. Pathfinder probably misses. EDIT:Confirm the Critical. Looks like I need to give a speech before my shots to make them effective. :P Also using Focused Aim for Cha bonus to DMG Confirm-1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 156d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 6, 1, 4, 1, 6) + 6 = 27

The system is brutal, it is not a kind system to play in at all. It does good at representing the tabletop game itself. I mean those Mawgs had 4 health each and there was like 10 of them or something. Our PCs probably only have around 12 hp so you can get easily overwhelmed. It really relies on the abilities we have and how we use them. Like in Combat I should stand base to base with Oengus, as I have Defensive Line and can give myself +1 Arm. Having to ever only roll d6 is also a bonus. It keeps the dice maths really simple.

It is just how the branches are laid out. So it goes lowest number in the Aspect, highest count. So for Phys of 7, branch 1 has 4 damage and branch 2 has 3. And it curves in so that branch 1 leads in to branch 2. But branch 2 is curved in too, and leads to branch 3, not back to Branch 1. Ya get me? If you look at a life spiral itself it might be easier to understand. Oh also it might be the phrasing. Branches run from 1 to 6, Aspects contain 2 branches.

Location-1d6 ⇒ 6 The first Mawg scratched harmlessly off of the large Trollkins armour and he grinned down at it viciously, before the second attacked, scratching him slightly across the back of the hand. "AH! F~@! yah. That hurt ya wee bollox!" That moment when you think you are taking 19 points of Damage, forgetting that armour is a thing. :P Man I havent played Warmachine in a long time!

'Good ol Jimmy Woods. Check. Tristan Cranz. Check.' Xander reached up and scratched between his shoulder blades uncomfortably. S%$$ was starting to bother him. Somebody or something was watching, he could feel it. "Sit and swivel f*&~ers!" He gave the room and screen the middle finger, before adding a second for good luck. 'F%#@ing watching me, sneaky f~~$s!' Perception-1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16 |
