Woah! Hold on. Did Paizo convert all of the Ptolus miniatures to Pathfinder??? Looks like it also happened with the Complete Adventures Miniatures too!
The messageboards are overflowing with the same people saying the same things over and over (skills being one of the most prominent matters of discussion). It has become a bit of a shouting contest. When will changes to the Alpha Release 1 rules be posted?
You put a BIG letter in front of a sentence, enters are used to seperate ideas or facts, periods say that a sentence is done, and a comma means that the point you are trying to make is particularly long.
I hope that this will make the world a better place. Thank You.
What if a caster could rapidly re-memorize his/her spells in a pinch?. It requires however 5 min of in a calm environment (not in combat to avoid the spaming of fireballs) but it is nevertheless a mentally exhausting process.
If that's the case, you may want to add in something like: you must roll fortitude after every 5 spells you recharge or become fatigued. DC 10 + the levels of spells recharged. Thus, if you want 3 Magic Missiles, it's only DC 13, but if you want 2 Wish Spells, it's DC 28.
Compatability is an issue, however, the skill system is going to undergo some changes one way or the other (simply due to the fact that there was some reduction in the number of skills). In the end, I would like the numbers and DCs to come out to be roughly the same so that conversion is largely unnecessary.

True. The way it is in the Alpha Document also makes it less of a hassle to determine "Maximum Ranks per Level".
Oh, and thank you for taking out Use Rope: the most utterly useless skill on the planet.
It's a skill that should be able to be used untrained, but it doen't neccessarily have to be on a class-skill list.
A fighter is in the middle of melee and doesn't have to notice the sneaky man in the corner. The rogue on the other hand is sniping from the other side of the room and probably would see him.
I think that allowing Heal to restore a small number of hit points on a limited basis would do much to take the curing burden from the cleric, at least at low levels.
Maybe something like a DC 10 check to heal 1d4 hit points, with 1 extra hit point healed for every 2 (or 3 or 5) points the DC is exceeded by. That way a 1st level character with the skill will average a roll of roughly 15 and heal 1d4+2. A 20th level character will average high 30s so would heal roughly 1d4+20.
Make it so that a character can only be bandaged once between each encounter (and can only heal damage taken since the last time you were healed) and you've got something that's useful without being overpowered. It also means that someone who's 5 hit points down won't need to pester the cleric for a Cure Light.
Good idea! You could gain a bonus to this check if you have bandages or medicinal herbs. Bandages granting a +2 bonus and herbs ranging from +1 to +5. Call the press!!!
While it is a little harder to make up on the fly, I find that the 3.5 OGL version offers the most customization potential.
However, The Pathfinder RPG version does have its benefits (ease of use, etc.) and offers quite an interesting twist. One of the problems is compatability, though. When using 3.5 material, skills wouldn't quite click.
I think that either of those two should be used in the final version.
Chain feats are a hassle. They bog down combat and greatly limit the options open to a character. Quite frankly, from the lack of support for them on the messageboards it would be wise to remove them.
Cleave as a full round action makes it worthless at higher levels, when someone would much rather have their full attack.
Ranged Combat:
Cover for ranged weapons is unnecesarily tedious. A simple -2 penalty is less realistic, but speeds up gameplay.
Well, here goes my first Campaign Journal! My friend, brother and I play three times a week for an hour at a time, so not a lot happens. However, we move along fairly quickly so hopefully this won't seem too tedious.
Please feel free to berate me on how much I let my PCs get away with!
;-)
The characters:
Yuan-Ti Warlock: Ssarus
Elan Swashbuckler/Fighter: Garret (garret has Shocking Burst, Frost burst, Lightning burst, Corrosive burst, concussive adamentine rapiers. His Max damage to date was 276 damage with a full attack.)
DM: Me (A DM who will let you get away with almost anything if it's epic enough.)
Spoiler:
They are currently on Pathfinder #4: Fortress of the Stone Giants and have come to the fortress itself. They have also killed Longtooth and the Wyverns and found a staff that allows them the use of Stone Shape.
A note on these PCs:
When the players saw a huge goblin fortress made of wood, they set it on fire, causing all the goblins to flee from it and onto the bridge which promptly collapsed. That sums up how they think.
So, naturally, when the PCs see a fortress next to a gorge they decide to stone shape it off the cliff (I won't describe how, but I'll just say it worked). Mokmurian and the Harpy monks survived (along with a few others) and are swooping towards the PCs. That is when the session ended.
I prefer enamels, although you need paint thinner for those. I have found it fun and rewarding. Just buy some basic colors (silver, green, blue, black, etc.) and several very small brushes.
What everyone needs to remember is that the people making 4e are not corporate idiots trying to scrape up every last penny out of gamers. There are, in fact, people much like us. The things to avoid are not the 4e rules, but the tiny things that are the ideas of corporate idiots (such as digital minis and trading cards). Change is inevitable, so better to convert now when there is still time than wait until the next edition change when you fall even further behind.
I'm not sure if anyone will read this post, but I do wish to add my opinion:
I love Paizo, and I hope to continue to buy their products for however many editions come out. However, 4e does not look bad and I hope that paizo at least converts Pathfinder at some point along the line. I will still play 3.5 but eventually will make the transition. From a buisness standpoint, it may be for the best to covert because Wizards has at least a hundred thousand supporters who will convert.
If Paizo does choose to make a new form of RPG, I will not purchase it. There are too many Role-Playing-Games out there as it is. If you were to still publish the occasional 3.5, I would buy it. When WoTC first announced the change of editions I was furious, but now that I have learned more and kept an open mind Fourth Edition looks fun.
I sincerely hope that you will choose to convert at some point along the road.
It was several flasks of oil and a natural twenty. They threw to oil (like a fox-tail) onto a shielded and non-wet portion of the stockade. I made several rolls to see if the fire would be put out but no cigar. The goblins rushed out and, as goblins will be goblins, they rushed out onto their own booby-trapped bridge. One of the PCs is psionic, so he lit the oil with a fire-blast.
When my PCs saw Thistletop and the wooden building on it, they took the flasks of oil one of my players had, and burnt the whole thing to the ground. Luckily, the play session ended directly after that. What do I do, and how much XP should I give them?
This looks like one of the best DnD products ever, and I hope that it will become your greatest success! With Dungeon and Dragon going to a place I will never follow, Pathfinder was a beacon; a hope for gamers everywhere! Good luck, and may Pathfinder kick A**!!!!!!!!!
This is already my favorite Monster Manual (apart from the first, of course). Just by reading through it, I was flooded with adventure ideas, especially from the 'flayers of Thoon!
