Special Abilities:

Spoiler:

Aura of Good (Ex): The power of a paladin's aura of good (see the detect good spell) is equal to her paladin level.

Detect Evil (Sp): At will, a paladin can use detect evil, as the spell. A paladin can, as a move action, concentrate on a single item or individual within 60 feet and determine if it is evil, learning the strength of its aura as if having studied it for 3 rounds. While focusing on one individual or object, the paladin does not detect evil in any other object or individual within range.

Smite Evil (Su): Once per day, a paladin can call out to the powers of good to aid her in her struggle against evil. As a swift action, the paladin chooses one target within sight to smite. If this target is evil, the paladin adds her Charisma bonus (+3) to her attack rolls and adds her paladin level to all damage rolls made against the target of her smite. If the target of smite evil is an outsider with the evil subtype, an evil-aligned dragon, or an undead creature, the bonus to damage on the first successful attack increases to 2 points of damage per level the paladin possesses. Regardless of the target, smite evil attacks automatically bypass any DR the creature might possess.

In addition, while smite evil is in effect, the paladin gains a deflection bonus equal to her Charisma modifier (+3) to her AC against attacks made by the target of the smite. If the paladin targets a creature that is not evil, the smite is wasted with no effect.

The smite evil effect remains until the target of the smite is dead or the next time the paladin rests and regains her uses of this ability. At 4th level, and at every three levels thereafter, the paladin may smite evil one additional time per day, as indicated on Table: Paladin, to a maximum of seven times per day at 19th level.

Background:

Spoiler:
Not welcome with the Mierani Elves and shunned by the noble house whose harlot produced him, Damersel found himself on the streets struggling to survive at an early age. Taking up small jobs to keep him fed, most only lasting a few days, Damersel kept looking for somewhere to call his home. These hardships finally led him on a path to thievery, which would change his life forever.

One evening’s events turned all this around. Damersel was doing his best to pickpocket coin from weary travelers passing through Old Korvosa when he was pulled by his arm down an alley by a teenage boy. The boy covered Damersel’s mouth and whispered to him with a menacing look on his face. “I’m guessing you don’t know whose area this is. Mr. Lamm would like to have a few words with you.” That night Damersel was brought to Gaedren Lamm, who decided to make him work for him from that day on. Twelve years passed as Damersel lied, cheated and stole for Lamm, not knowing the path that lay before him. One night during a routine robbery, Damersel broke into a house to steal some precious stones that were said to be kept in a trunk at the foot of the bed. Instead of finding the stones he found a holy symbol of Sarenrae. Intrigued by the symbol, Damersel went to church to quell his need to know more. As Damersel returned, Lamm confronted him with one of the other thieves, who ratted him out about going to the church and lied to Lamm about Damersel stealing the jewels which weren’t there. That night, Lamm beat Damersel within inches of death and left him to die by the harbor. By fate, he was found by a priest of Sarenrae who nursed him back to health.

Seeing these events as a sign, Damersel has been studying The Birth of Light and Truth ever since, and is preparing his mind and body for the battle for Korvosa’s redemption.

Description:

Spoiler:
Age: 19
Height: 6'-2"
Weight: 170lbs
A thin but muscular half-elf stands before you, his gaze darting and untrusting, though this is only a remnant of his younger years on the street. He tries to keep his light blond hair long enough to cover his ears, hiding his elven heritage. When performing his duties for the church, Damersel usually wears white linens stitched with orange and gold accents. When the call to arms is necessary, he dons his armor and wields his scimitar with Dawnflower emblazoned steel shield.
