Devlyn Shadow Jumps to the side of the wizard, Quick-Drawing a quarterstaff from his efficient quiver, and popping the guy in the head/throat to keep him from casting. All damage he inflicts is non-lethal unless stated otherwise.

I'm not going to hurt them more than absolutely necessary, but I am putting them down ASAP.... :)

Tristan tugs on Devlyn's sleeve.

::Something's not right here...::

"That about sums it up, yep. Looks like Zhalail is playing some more games to keep eyes off of her endeavors. Hang back with the others until we can incapacitate these guys."

Devlyn soon realizes that the Mamluks are pressing thier charge towards his group in a tight formation, bearing shields and swords.

Here comes another fly in the proverbial ointment.

"Allura? Something's messed with their heads. Can you try to snap them out of whatever's boggling their senses before they get hurt?"

They bear the city's colors. A simple KNOWLEDGE: LOCAL can convey more information.

Gotcha. Devlyn would have done so, especially if it allowed him to ID whether or not they're normal Watch, or something else entirely. He can hit a DC 30 even with a low roll...

"What's this before me? More sorcery and fire demons no less. To arms! Wizard prepare your worse!"

"Um...what fire demons, guys? What's going on?"

Devlyn adjusts his cowl as he pats Tristan on the shoulder.

"We'll talk to them, and then we go."

He calls out to the approaching people:
"Glad to see there are still some people in the Bazaar? What's the situation? Do we have a problem other than a fire here?" he asks, pointing toward the column of smoke in the distance.

As Tristan raises his finger to point in the general direction of the pillar of smoke, an alarming cry is heard.

Up from the street, several Mamluks and what appears to be a wizard is approaching the group.

"That was quick. Let's see what we can find out and then get moving."

BP - Do these folks bear the city colors, or do they look to be mercenaries?

She can come up with an equivalent of status for Arielle using her Songs, but most of her spellcasting ability is gone. And yes, she would definitely be feeling parenty. :)

I figured she would - then we'll assume everybody's been 'lo-jacked' this time ;)

After a couple hours of making some, well, unorthodox changes to portions of the Sanctum grounds, the group cleans up their mess as best they can, sets up some long-duration preparatory spells/psionics to keep tabs on each other, then uses the omniportal to return to the Bazaar of the Bizarre.

Lynora - Based on the message Devlyn sent, would LJ pop in here to at least slap a status spell on her daughter (or the greater version for the whole group if she was feeling especially 'parenty'? ;)

Anybody against just doing some hand-waving and saying that the younglings work on their powers a little bit, and we go ahead and book it back to the Bazaar? That way we can get back into the thick of things again :)

Walks over after leaving the message with LJ and CH, and after LK has turned his attention back to the others.

"You think he has it in him, Poetry?" he asks her quietly.

LJ and CH hear Devlyn's voice on their communication crystals.

"Hey folks - it looks like Arielle and Aidan decided to track us down at the Sanctum to do a bit of pranking. We just finished talking to Sunny G, and it looks like Tristan needs to go back to the Bazaar to get some kind of magic gem that only he can find. We're all coming with him to keep him out of harm's way while he does so. We'll be here for a little while longer before we leave, if you needed to stop by."

Arielle whispers to LK, "I hope this practice doesn't take too long. My parents are gonna be pretty upset when they notice I'm gone, and I don't want to not be able to help Tristan."

You'd think they'd learn not to try that around me.... :P

"I was wondering if they knew you were here, Little Zephyr. I'll talk to them and see if I can keep the upset to a minimum," he says with a wink.

"Now you all go outside and try to pool your powers. If we do run into any trouble, a little practice can only help us, neh?"

He activates his communication crystal to contact LJ and CH at the Grove of Ancients.

Tristan presses his hands together and seperates them slowly. LK and Arielle look at the taffy-like ethereal substance globulate between his hands then solidify on the tips of his fingers. He clasps his hands then flings all four finger together in a single motion across the sanctum. One narrow thin blades flies from his finger and embeds itself in the sanctum's wall. A second blade pinballs across the hospitality room and punctures a large drinking chalice. Cursing soon follows. The third flies unerringly and is followed by a short yelp. The fourth blade zips pass Poetry the assassin and slices off a lock of her hair. Tristan seems oblivious to the assassin's presence. His eyes go wide as he realizes the blades have left his fingers.

::Ooops!::

He quickly ducks behind Devlyn.

He just nods his head slowly, putting a hand on Tristan's shoulder and taking in the scene.

"Like I said, you all need to use your powers in concert. Maybe we should take a quick break outside and work on that before we go..."

Arielle and Little Kiba have only known him for a short time, but he looks older, now almost out of his childhood years.

He stops and looks glum. His mirth almost dying out.

"We can help," she says eagerly. "Well, I think we can help. LK can help. I'm still not really in control of my power. I might be more of a problem than a help," she added glumly.

"You'll be fine, Arielle. All you have to do is remember to work together with your powers. And Tristan - we're going to be with you through all of this. I know this isn't what you want to do - believe me, I don't want any of you to have to do this - but it's what needs to be done. Both for your sake and your parents' sake."

"You won't be alone in this, not anymore. We'll see this deed done - I promise."

Aidan has a hard time talking, since he's still laughing.

"What's wrong? Aren't you glad to see me?"

He looks like he did before the Flame took over, except for his eyes. They are still pure black except for two thin slivers of curved ivory*.

*Crescent moon.

Devlyn stalks up to him, and looks like he's either about to give him a verbal dressing-down or throttle him (he's not sure which). Instead, he just rubs his forehead and takes a deep breath.

"Glad to see your sense of humor came through unscathed, Aidan. We'd better get back to our host before he gets upset with this little interruption, neh?"

Going back over and gathering Arielle up from the floor (who is deep in the throes of uncontrollable giggling), Devlyn gets everyone back upstairs to finalize things before they return to the Bazaar of the Bizarre.

AIDAN, YOU LITTLE......!!!!!

This should be promptly cut off by Arielle's own bout of laughter from behind him...

Devlyn grabs Arielle as he quickly leaps forward and spins around, seeing Aidan (who is most likely laughing himself to tears).

As silently as possible, Aidan sneaks up behind Devlyn. Quitely dismissing his spell, he reappears.

"Boo!"

It was hard to decide which was the more spooky choice, that one or one that made it looked like he was shouting...

Yeah - looks you'd have to dismiss the spell in order for anybody to hear you. It renders you detectable only by touch - sheesh. Then again, it is an 8th level spell.... ;)

For the first time Aidan can recall, he actually catches Devlyn by surprise.

"Gaaaah!!!"

I have no problems, but you'll need to head to the Bazaar first for another appointment. Then its off to Tristan's home. Then Finally the Tunnels for the conclusion of the Thread. As long as it falls within that sequence of events, I will have no problem.

Sounds good - that was my general understanding of the sequence of events remaining.

Aidan is supposed to be springing his prank now that we're downstairs. I guess DB3's got some school / RL stuff going on today.

Speaking of...with the RL delays grabbing all of us lately, I wonder if it might be a good idea to put this storyline on the short track to resolution. (I know that means taking Devlyn 'out of the picture' so posting can continue when I'm offline in the evenings, but that's okay. I've been working on an idea to facilitate that, and I think it will work with a minimum of fuss, and still be reasonably believable.)

Sorry if that sounded snarky at all. I must still have a case of the 'Monday Grumps'... :)

Yeah, her last post with her main alias says she was last on at 11:55pm(for me anyway) last night. So maybe she just slept in and has been busy all day.

Not sure, but I am beginning to get concerned....

Arielle stands in the lobby in clear view, near to the pillar where Aidan is hiding. She has a look of concentration on her face as if she were trying to regain control of the errant gust of wind she had sent through the Sanctum.

Devlyn comes downstairs to the lobby, and notices Arielle. Not feeling any wind or smelling any ozone, he goes over to her.

"Everything alright, little zephyr?" as he crouches down next to her.

He heads downstairs to gather up the 'flock'.

No longer does Delavine live peaceably in the Runeforge. Sadly, the combat was so XXX that we could not record it.

Now that conjures some scary images to mind...I bet that party's got some nice mental scarring to deal with now! ;)
