The guard manages to stumble through the door, and he closes it. You hear a bar being dropped on the other side.

(CotCT GameMaestro)

Quickly, Drakus shoots a glare at the fleeing guard, as the guard recognizes him, causing him to pause for a moment, as the priest attempts to trip the guard. Sollus steps in with his crossbow leveled toward the guard.

(CotCT GameMaestro)

other character actions? waiting on you

(CotCT GameMaestro)

My apologies all, my two jobs just collided, I'm going to be very busy over the next few days, can't post the map yet, so just wing it. We'll be fine. Declare what you wish to accomplish, and I'll deal with it.

(CotCT GameMaestro)

I got the map set-up last night, didn't have time to get it uploaded, decided to have some wifey time instead, I'll post it later tonight. The guardsman moved and opened a door for his action, between the front door and the door he opened is a 4' high counter. (Not ADA compliant...)

Panish Valimer wrote:
Panish mutters to himself "Oh by Iomedae's beard..." then motions to Drakus and Sollus to speed-up their advance. Panish draws his sword and readies his shield, his lips soundlessly mouthing an Inheritor's blessing.

Iomedae has a beard now? Maybe she should go see someone about that. I should have time to get a map up tonight, so roll (I) plz

(CotCT GameMaestro)

Panish states, "I know it is a tremendous burden at this time of mayhem and lawlessness - but I'm trying hard to give the women and children in Iomedae's sanctuary the illusion of a steady and secure life. Something more than a gruel, something to remind them of better times - to this end, is it at all possible that this house can cater with a Varisian ham, or possibly a honeyed dry-cured ham?"

The guardsmen's eyes narrow, as his greed is overshadowed by the chink in the story, "Did you say Sanctuary?" As he sees Drakus appearing through the fog. He bolts for the back of the shop, yelling..."We got us some Meddlers."

well you've never actually seen Vancaskern, but it could be him.

btw, sorry for those that are not actively engaged at the moment. I want to keep everyone involved as much as possible.

Panish Valimer wrote:

"Ah, you seem to be a hardworking man. There is no need to be apprehensive. Iomedae not only requires this meat for charity - she understands that in this time of distress and need it is important to compensate your efforts generously."

With those words Panish briefly shows a small purse that hangs heavily in his hand before stowing it back inside his cloak.

If Panish senses that the butcher will invite him inside due to awakening greed, then he will follow along continuing the litany below. Otherwise he will try to slip past the man in a goodhearted way before the man realizes Panish's intentions by continuing his litany: "Iomedae not only bids me to pay handsomely, I can aid this honorable establishment with divine favor: by helping to stave of decay and keeping the meat in gentle repose you can sell finer meat that will last longer."

Sollus/Sarge what are you doing?

Aliandara:

Spoiler:
You pull yourself up on the roof, and silently stride across the tiles, you see the room is lit with a lantern, and stay out of the light, a male form finishes dressing as straps on his blade.

Panish:

Spoiler:
The man's eyes flare with murder when you show the pouch as his hand tightens around the cleaver causing a drop of blood to fall. "Why, Oi think we moight be able to work out sump'n if'n y'll just step inside..."

(CotCT GameMaestro)

OK yesterday I posted, and it was on the boards, now it's gone. strange; repost soon.

(CotCT GameMaestro)

As Panish approaches the door, Aliandara moves quiet as a cat around the outside of the building, she begins to climb the building, as she reaches the top, she makes a mistake she hadn't made in years, she forgot how slick the tiles would be in the early morning fog. Aliandara slips, a knocking a tile into the mud below with a squish it lands, Aliandara dangles by a single hand.

Meanwhile, at the front door, Panish waits, until the door opens, and the ugly deserter stands there, covered in blood; holding a large cleaver in his meaty fist.

"Whut you want?" he bellows.

"Greetings to All the World's Meat! May Iomedae request a delivery of meats?" Panish says in a bright cheerful voice.

"Priest huh..." You see his eyes shift around, a sure sign of thinking up a lie. Then he speaks after a few seconds. "Dis meat 'as already been bought priest, Mebbe y'kin come t'morrer and we kin arrange fer a d'liv'ry."

(CotCT GameMaestro)

Waiting on Aliandara again, she may have info to disseminate

(CotCT GameMaestro)

Aliandara Leloric wrote:
Aliandara sighs " This isn't getting us anywhere; I will just go in like I tried yesterday and ask for meat then see where that gets me this time ". Aliandara looks around to see if she spots any other people awaiting the butchery's charity and then approaches the front door of the shop.

The shop is still closed in the wee hours of the morning. Another hour or so til sun-up.

You approach the door, and over the gated fence area you hear:

Spoiler:
"Ole Pinkton better watch how much he gouges us on this meat, or we'll be serving him up..." "Shut up you fool, Vancaskern will hear you." as they take a goat into the building and close the door.

(CotCT GameMaestro)

From the sounds of it, the drovers have arrived at the Livestock gate on the side of the building. You hear "Oi! We 'ere wit de 'livry!" a few seconds pass, you hear "Hold on!" as the bar is lifted off the gate, and they pull the gate open through the muck of the pen.

"Olroight, that'll be 3 crown for each o'th heffers, and 1 crown fer each o'th goats. And 10 crowns fer the trouble..."

"WHAT? twenty crowns? For 2 diseased cows and 4 skinny goats...? You're insane!"

"Oi'm sure oi'culd foind me a buyer fer that...'ungry people round 'ere...'ungry people oi say"

"Keep it down, get the livestock in here, we got a lot of work t'do still."

"Fine!, here's your 20 crowns."

"Olroight, pleasur do'in bi'ness wit'cha gents. Pleasur, Oi say..."

[i] You all realize that those prices are very steep, especially if the livestock isn't in prime condition. And they're giving the meat away...

(CotCT GameMaestro)

Aliandara

Spoiler:
You hear some chopping from within the building, just before you hear the cowbells as the drovers approach with 2 cows, and some goats.

You all hear cowbells as some drovers approach with 2 cows, and some goats. You also hear some conversation between the guards and the drovers, "The building is up ahead."

(CotCT GameMaestro)

Drakus:

Spoiler:
You know from the local scuttlebutt, that livestock has still been arriving, though some shipments have been lost many have been still arriving, though in limited numbers. Bribes have most likely been used to redirect certain shipments. Shipments have been guarded most times.

Everyone make a Perception: (Sound Based) please

Good observations by everyone, there will be some bonus XP thrown in for them.

(CotCT GameMaestro)

You gear up and get moving, the fog clings to you, the air is freshest you've smelled, the fog pulling the scent of smoke, death and refuse out of the air. You travel from lantern to lantern, reaching All the World's Meat, before dawn. The streets are very quiet in the early morning hours.

(CotCT GameMaestro)

Well Happy New Year all, let me know when you're back!

(CotCT GameMaestro)

We have 2 of 4 players on holiday, I think we suspend this game until the 4th.

Aliandara:

Spoiler:
As you sneak into the shadows, you cross paths with a pseudodragon chasing a quasit, a common site in Korvosa, you note several broken roof tiles laying on the ground, that must have been the source of the noise. You hear the sound of heavy footsteps approaching in the fog, boots crunching on the damp ground, likely it's one of the guards investigating.

(CotCT GameMaestro)

Sorry ran out of time to post yesterday...

A:

Spoiler:
You hear the former guards say the following, though it's broken up... "Right, after this rough-up job, we'll have to keep clear of Vanderca***n" another voice: "Of course (broken up) the livestock (more broken language) morning." First voice: "...then the pigs and cows. stupid beggars don't know the difference." There's a crash outside: "What the hell was that?? Let's go look..."

Once A returns, you head to the Inn for the evening.

(CotCT GameMaestro)

A:

Spoiler:
you're about to slip onto the roof as you sneak about when you think you hear someone talking on the lower level. Perception check.

(CotCT GameMaestro)

Aliandara, are you going back to scout for awhile it's foggy?

Drakus: You going to try to find a good vantage point in the dark?

You hear the approach of a group of Hell Knights off in the fog, they coulnd't sneak with a silence spell cast on them, the shaking of the ground would still give them away. Whether it's the same group or not is unknown.

and my apologies to those waiting for the scouting, in person this wouldn't take as long.

Aliandara Leloric wrote:

After a bit of scouting Aliandara returns to the party to report her initial findings.
"When I wanted to enter the shop I was greeted by one of the guards, a tall disturbing fellow. Good news, disguise was successful though my kind will only be welcome again tomorrow. What I did notice was that there was no livestock, which is strange considering it is a butchery. Other than that there no windows on the ground floor and the back gate is closed from the inside. I could go again when its darker and climb to the second story, or come back tomorrow morning in my disguise again, though I wanted to report first.

She's already been back...see?

(CotCT GameMaestro)

The fog really being to roll in as dusk sets upon you, within the hour visibility will be reduced to 10 feet. By the midwatch you won't be able to see your hand in front of your face.

(CotCT GameMaestro)

Aliandara Leloric wrote:

Spoiler:
About a half hour til dusk

The current time is about a half hour before dusk.

The Weather is cool, and wet, as the marine layer is moving in, towards the water you can see a fog bank beginning to form.

Sounds of Rioting can still be heard in various locations, few fires are burning now.

(CotCT GameMaestro)

The Hellknight orders are part of the Church of Asmodeus, they pretty much consider themselves above the local law...The Church of Asmodeus is still powerful in Korvosa. The Hellknights would consider guardsmen acceptable out after curfew as long as they are on official business. You definitely don't have authority over the Hellknights. The Hellknights have been instrumental in crushing the riots, though a bit heavy-handed.

(CotCT GameMaestro)

The Hell Knights look at the ragtag group lead by the gruff Sergeant, they begin to bristle at his harsh words, then at Sollus' words, there leader steps forward. Through the helmet, the Hell Knight speaks, "Not even guards are above the law, if we catch you loitering or causing trouble after dark, don't think we won't put you down."

With that, the Hell Knights form up again and march off down the road, Two handed swords held in their grip, the wicked blades held upward.

(CotCT GameMaestro)

As the others sit and wait, a troop of Hell Knights marches up.

"You'll need to clear out of here before dark, curfew in effect."

Drakus are you in your guard kit or not?

You note only windows on the upper floors, make climb and stealth checks if you want to scout the roof, and peek in the windows. )actually make 5 of each, we'll do this like a skill challenge from 4e).

On the ground, you note there are currently no livestock in the pens, there is no gate, but you can see that it has a bar across the inside.

You could probably make it over the fence and check it out, it's not very tall. Wait til dusk? (this would be 3 climb and stealth checks)

When you prod the guard, he stares at you hungrily. "Keep it up little one and you'll be breakfast tomorrow." He's a tall man
with bushy eyebrows that merge into one just above his large flat nose, his breath smells of stale ale and garlic. (Sense Motive-secret roll) He seems to be making some sort of dark joke.

(CotCT GameMaestro)

Aliandara Scouting:

Spoiler:
You arrive at 22 Stirge Street, initial inspection of the area shows a 50'x80' square building. On the North side (streetside) a 20'x25' storefront added to the front of the building. Above the storefront is a second story 25'x40'. There is a 35' long fence attached to the west side of the building that runs the entire 80' length, judging by the smell, this is where the livestock is kept prior to butchering. The building itself looks in ill repair, as if it was unoccupied for a lengthy term. A couple quick questions results in the information that the building was indeed vacant for over a year until after the riots.

There are two entrances, one at the storefront, and a gate for livestock delivery on the eastern alleyway fence.

As you arrived, a rough looking guard shooed you off, "I already told you, we're out of meat today, come back tomorrow morning scrub!"

Feel free to either ask more questions, roll stealth if need be, search rolls etc, or report initial findings to the rest of the team.

Dex adjusted all the way through

Skills boosted all the way through
Armor check penalties for Armor Expert and Masterwork done
Hit points for second level I rolled for (not taking less than half); was there another method used in this game?

Spoiler:
16 str (10pts) 13 Dex (3 pts) 16 Con (10pts) 12 Cha (2pts) you can still apply your human bonus of +2 to any stat.

Note, I've been running this game now for almost a year, I'm working two jobs, so if I go a couple days without a post, know that I haven't disappeared, I'm just extra busy. If I'm gone for a month...mourn my passing. Hit points, OK here's the option I'm gonna give ya...either take half, or reduce die type add 2, and keep what you roll. Example d10 becomes d8+2, but if you rolla 1, that's what you get, odds are you'll have higher than half, but there's a small chance of halving less...now...Sings Looney tunes theme...Oh what fight's we'll see...on with the game this is it....

(CotCT GameMaestro)

Sgt. Drakus wrote:

I was under the impression this game had a 20 point buy for stats.

And it looks like the Armor Expert trait doesn't reduce the DX penalty as well as the Check penalty like I thought.
I'll check the rest when I get home.

Sorry, I missed that it seems, I'm working a lot, so I actually only glanced over the character sheets. Yes, any class that has 2+ int skill points, up it to 4+int skill points PER level.

(CotCT GameMaestro)

"Very well young Lord Pavo, see to your sister and when you've accomplished that we shall see what we can do to put you back in action."

(CotCT GameMaestro)

Field Marshall Cressida rises, "Yes, Sergeant, you're dismissed...only you are part of the military though, these heroes are not members of the military, they are assisting us because the guards are needed for civil duty. The incident you went through might actually come in as an asset in this situation, though I know your innocence, I know you fight every day to erase your unwarranted reputation...a reputation these deserters might find tempting for letting you in."

(CotCT GameMaestro)

Field Marshall Cressida pipes in, "As I said, the exact numbers that the city's wayward sons have is unknown, I assume your band can handle any info gathering you might need to do."

Pavo, are you still around or do you need to assist Sorin and Tamarie with the "other" mission...? Been three weeks without a post now.

(CotCT GameMaestro)

Marra is my DMPC, go ahead and role-play the interaction, ask Cressida any questions, she reiterates the mission briefing she gave the rest of the party.

REPOST OF THE BRIEFING:

“Korvosa’s got enough troubles as it is without my own men
losing their way and going rogue. As much as it pains me to
admit, though, this has happened several times already. Many
guards have deserted their posts, more concerned about
friends and family than the city. I can understand this, yet not
all of the deserters have family—some of them are simply using
the riots as an excuse for personal gain. One such man is Verik
Vancaskerkin. Worse than a lone deserter, he’s convinced a small
group of fellow guards that Queen Ileosa is going to ruin the city.
Whether she does or doesn’t isn’t the point—right now, we’ve
got a city-wide crisis on our hands, and I need all of my guards
working with me to see us through. A deserter is worse than a
lost resource—it’s an infection. I can’t afford to pull any of my
other patrols off duty to deal with Vancaskerkin, and I’d rather
not expose any of them to him anyway, since I neither want
Vancaskerkin to infect more guards with his talk of secession,
nor do I want some overly patriotic guard killing Vancaskerkin
outright. I need impartial, skilled talent. Like you."

“Vancaskerkin and his men have holed up in an abandoned butcher’s
shop up in Northgate—the place was called All the World’s Meat.
I need you to check out the place. Try to avoid killing any of the
deserters if you can, but if you must, they brought it upon
themselves when they threw in their lot with Vancaskerkin.
For him, I’d really prefer it if you could capture him alive
and return him to me for interrogation, but if he makes that
impossible, I’ll accept his body as well. Finally, see if you
can find out why Verik deserted—if there’s more to it than
simple personal politics, I need to know immediately. Bring me
Verik alive, and there’s another thousand gold in it for you.
Dead, he’s only worth half that.”

"All we know is where Vancaskerkin and the rogue guards are, we haven't
had the man power to scout the area. I had reports that they were
giving away meat to the poor yesterday and today. I can only assume
he's attempting to build himself into a local hero of sorts."

(CotCT GameMaestro)

"Sergeant Drakus! How many times to I have to tell you to address me as Field Marshall." She yells as she pops tall. Then a smirk crosses her face and shatters her grim visage, "Sergeant Drakus, how long have we known each other? 2 years? 3 Years? No need to impress our guests with your bearing."

Feeling better now...so we can pick this up quickly now.

"Sergeant, please show our other guest in."

Everyone ready? get your info in your profiles, I'll have a final once over your characters.

Dolph:

Spoiler:
Background Soldier, and the marked bit, where did those come from?

(CotCT GameMaestro)

A lieutenant enters and hands something to Field Marshall Cressida, who unrolls a scroll and begins to read. She puts down the scroll and speaks;

"Hmmm, it seems we have more heroes about to enter. Therefore, I'm going to ask Sorin and Tamarie to deal with a special problem that has arisen. Tamarie you're to escort Sorin while you attempt to make contact with a rogue guard friend of mine, he seems to have taken the loss of the King quite hard, you will find Sergeant Grau."

Good way to exit them, and bring the new characters in, while tying up a loose end.

(CotCT GameMaestro)
