So what's the plan of attack, Donagar doesn't have the magic to heal her at the moment, The Abadaran priest can't heal her without 150gp or his order will be perturbed; and he'd have to atone most likely.
She smiles slightly as the energy passes into her, then she's wracked by a coughing spasm, the cloth she coughs into is now covered in red flecks of blood.
oh yeah, you don't have remove disease quite yet...you know that lesser restoration will give her at least another day or two depending on how much you restore.
Donagar channels positive energy into the girl....

"Yer gonna have tah rest I gots tah request tha right magic tah gets yah healed up!"
Returns downstairs hopefully.
"Shes in a bad way sure nuff. I gots tah get mah prayers an gets tha right spell in order tah save her. Tis a strong sickness fer certain. Not sure when she came down wit it though might have been in her system even longer tha shes been sick."
Moves away to pray for proper spells.
The channel effectively does nothing, as she's at her maximum hp for her damaged Con.
The child puts his index finger to his lips and scrunches his face in thought
Downstairs:
"She didn't mention a box, but she did mention she found it along the river...I don't know where she spent the coin, though she did bring home some bread, eggs, and a slab of bacon."
Knowledge(local) DC 17 if you examine the bread:
This is bread from Madame Logar's Breadshop in the Main shopping district. Expensive, but highly sought after, she sells out of the bread early everyday.
Upstairs:
Donagar:
No trace of magic in the disease. But it seems an extremely virulent disease for her to be in this state after a day and a half.
The creaky steps open up into a bedroom loft above the main
room of the Soldado home. A young girl with auburn hair
lies in one of the beds, her slight frame dwarfed by the bed’s
size and the pile of pillows, afghans, and quilts surrounding
her. Splotches of an angry red rash cover her face and arms,
appearing in irregular shapes and sizes. Suddenly, her
restlessness is interrupted by a violent fit of hacking coughs
that jerk her entire frame, lifting her well off her pillows. The
spasm passes after a moment, dropping her back to the bed,
but seemingly having done little to ease her breathing.
At this rate, without receiving healing or other treatment,
Brienna will die within the next 2 or 3 days.
downstairs:
Tayce is upstairs, but Mai asks the children downstairs the question.
The young boy answers, "Yes, she found a box full of silver coins, maybe she's sick cuz she spent them all without putting any in the bank, I bet Abadar is mad at her!"
Speaks to the man in the kitchen
"You there yah want tah help or not?" "Wha is yer opinion o wha they are sufferin from?"
Dhatri:"I want to help, but I'm bound by the tenets of Abadar to not give favor where gold is not given. I'm trying to help as well as I can without angering Abadar or my Elders."
Gregor: "Pardon me, Brother Dhatri, I think you have done what can for today. I would suggest you return to the church, and see if you can find guidance to help think of more possible remedies." Gregor gently takes the man by the arm and leads him toward the door, giving the sign of Abadar as he does so.
Dhatri wrote:
“If I had been sent for earlier perhaps I could,
but I’m afraid that my duties at the Golden One’s Vault required
me to entreat him for similar miracles already this day. Even if
I could, though, the tenets of my church force me to request a
donation for Abadar’s power—one that I suspect these simple folk
could scarcely afford. What troubles me is this disease is unknown
to me, it could be the harbinger of a new illness. I hope your
Priest friend has the power to help and lacks the mercenary shackles
of duty.”
Nik'o: yes, introductions were made, the quick impersonal introductions of nearly a dozen people in 1 room...
Pai: The younger of the two says: "Cleaning's no fun, let's play!" And "attacks" you with a feather duster...
I'm pretty busy doing site walks this week, so if you don't hear from me for the next few days, that's why, then on Sunday I'm running a Traveller game at a GameDay. Do some RPing =D
The local toughs seem to be wary of you at this time of day, though they're definitely sizing you up. However they seem to realize that your group is beyond their means...especially when the pseudo dragon lights upon Marra's shoulder.
You reach the small residence, and Grau knocks on the door. And is met by a young, obviously Varisian, boy who answers, the boy perhaps in his early teens recognizes Grau and invites you all in.
Charlo and Rello are playing quietly in the living room, while Tayce
attends Brienna upstairs. Every few minutes, a spasm of ragged coughing fills the house from above. An acolyte from the Bank of Abadar, is in the kitchen with a bag of herbs, brewing some concoction that smells of cinnamon and anise. Upon seeing the man still there, Grau is obviously displeased and goes upstairs.
perception DC20:
Grau whispers under his breath, That fool Ishani from the Church of Abadar is Still here?
Knowledge (religion) DC15:
You know that an acolyte in the church of Abadar can't use healing magic without payment unless they wish to be excommunicated from the church.
Knowledge (local) DC 20:
The acolyte is Ishani Dhatri, a Vudran who joined the church many years ago but is still only an acolyte
perception DC20:
While Grau is upstairs you hear hushed arguing, mostly concerning Ishani Dhatri, and worthless herbal cures.
Grau’s sister-in-law’s family lives in a small community
northeast of Korvosa disparagingly called Trail’s End—a
slight against the number of settled Varisians in the area.
Made up primarily of Varisians—with a few Shoanti and
socially disaffected Chelaxians—Trail’s End is poor and
reputedly dangerous, but the neighborhood feels more
like a small town than any district within the city proper.
The criminal element is obvious and impossible to ignore
in the faces of dozens of toughs and thugs who loiter on
the streets here.
Only a crooked block away from the Jeggare shore, the
Soldado home is a squat, two-story wooden building in
desperate need of repair and gardening. Overall, the
building feels like the home of a family too busy living
to bother with tedious chores. Inside, the house is
remarkably clean and well-kept, filled with worn,
well-used furniture and decorated with the crafts and
scribblings of children.
Tayce Soldado lives here with her three children,
Brienna, Charlo, and Rello. Despite being only half-blooded
Varisians, Tayce’s sons have distinctly Varisian features, with
unruly black hair, brown eyes, and olive skin, while Brienna
takes more after her father, having a paler complexion,
with light hair and freckles.
knowledge local DC 15:
Sczarni brutes who call
themselves the Bashwater Boys and prey exclusively upon
Chelaxians and other outsiders. Knowing most city folks’
distaste for Varisia’s natives, the residents of Trail’s
End return such prejudices, creating a community that thrives
off Korvosan coin but reviles the city all the same.
knowledge local DC 20:
Tayce and her family are
well-known and quietly respected in Trail’s End, and have
nothing to fear from the local Sczarni toughs. While Tayce
works as a washerwoman for those in the community and
several families in North Point, her children also bring
in a few coins for the family—Brienna working as a maid,
while Charlo and Rello work as unofficial apprentices to a
wheelwright friend of the family.
knowledge local DC 25:
Tayce is a single mother. Her husband Bayan was
murdered long ago by an overzealous Hellknight. Left with three
children to raise alone, Tayce dedicated her life to bringing
them up right. Grau visits the family at least once a week
to ensure that they’re safe and have everything they need.
He respects and honestly likes Tayce.
You spend about 2 hours pub crawling before you find him around noon between one of the pubs, turns out you started at different pubs and passed each other once.
Drakus/Gregor: You friend Sergeant Grau contacts you during the day:
Grau wrote:
“My niece is sick. I don’t know what she has and neither does anyone in Trail’s End. She’s broken out all over in red pocks and can barely keep down food, or even the swill that good for- nothing herbalist gave her. Her mother’s talking about going to the Bank of Abadar, but her family can’t afford to pay the prices their clerics would demand. Then I remembered how you and your friends handled yourselves during the riots, and how you helped me out, and I figured you all could help. A bunch of resourceful folk like you, I’d bet if you don’t already have a way to fix this you must know who can. Surely you can’t just sit by while a child suffers, can you?”
As far as information overheard about the ship, the rumors cover everything a dragon turtle came into the harbor but was driven off, to what you deign to be the truth, to a full scale invasion by Tian Xia pirates. You have heard rumors of treasure that washed ashore as well. One shifty looking halfling said he found a box of rubies as large as his fist that he'd be willing to sell to people for 50gp each since he really needs the money to pay for his sick mother's rent.
The next two days are uneventful except for the miserable weather, the sleet turns to a full on rain storm which lasts for the next two days...making all but the paved main thoroughfares treacherously muddy
let me know if there's anything specific you want to be doing during those two days?
"There was a ship whip came into the harbor that did not yield to hails, so we attacked and sunk it. The Field Marshall went to investigate, she should return before morning, she's coordinating the investigation from the scene."
motive of Captain Tyrole:
Captain Tyrole seems to be one who has a distinct sense of duty to Korvosa
Nik'o: he knew it but wasn't about to go to the dungeons or be hung for revealing secrets.
Captain Tyrole, one of the most highly decorated officer's in Korvosa, comes sauntering in. "Sergeant Drakus, Sergeant Ward, what brings you here at so late an hour asking after the Field Marshall's location after the attack?"
The guard looks at Nik'o quizzically..."Alright, what information did you need before you return to her? Since you were sent by her you must know where to return."
You return to the Citadel, though the hour is late, the guards inform you that the Field Marshall is not in currently, just that she and her guard departed just after the incident in the harbor.
As the party gathers and heads towards Vencarlo's Academy, the moon is visible as a pallid light shining through the upper reaches of the fog, the majority hanging close to the ground, typical in Korvosa this time of year. A Warm Mug of Spiced Ale would definitely hit the spot in your chilled bones...
So off to investigate or to report to Vencarlo? Just a note, this is the bone chilling cold that can easily cause hypothermia, and you could catch your death of cold being out in this weather.
There's no way a ship that size could have broken free of its mooring and been sunk where it sounded like it was sunk.
if you got that one then....
sense motive 15:
The Guard Captain believes the cover story
The fog is extremely thick now, visibility is down to around 10', the temperature is hovering around 40 degrees, if you're not wearing winter clothes, the cold is starting to get to you.
The Captain looks at Drakus, and Gregor, then to the priest of Cayden...then to the two ladies, he gets a smirk on his face...
"Oh, I understand, a drunken night of revelry with the two ladies...blessed by Cayden himself...Alright, you carry on then, oh and don't worry about the alarm earlier, seems a ship slipped its moors or some such and and the watchmen sank it before she could cause much damage...I bet some Merchant Lord is gonna be bent outta shape to hear one of his prized vessels was scuttled."
Gregor follows stoically. He is reprimanded for trying to make haste, but as soon as we are instructed by Vencarlo to make haste, everyone jumps as if it wasn't what he himself was pushing for from the start.
** spoiler omitted **
Gregor:
Up to you, depends on you really. Sergeant sounds fine..
Almost as soon as the words are out of Gregor's mouth, the all-clear bells are rung. In the foggy distance you can hear the last gasp of a sinking ship, however you hear no screams of drowning sailors.
Though eerie, no one confronts you on the way to the safehouse, the fogs clinging cold the only lingering effect.
The guard looks as though he's about to retort to Nik'o's saucy banter when Gregor cuts into him. He immediately casts his eyes downward and motions you through. "You're right sir, be safe on the roads." as his voice cracks a little. Another group follows on you heels, then...
"That was the last group through, all entry and egress must be through the main gate until sunrise..." He shouts as the gate begins to lower.
"I don't know if I've met you before, but this lass, I'd like to meet her again, so firehair, why don't you swing by the Sheathed Blade when you come back into town, 'eh luv?" The guardsman seems a bit young.
Gregor:
you remember this particular guardsman was brought in after the riots.
Drakus:
you recognize this as an off-limits tavern for the guard except while on duty, due to the activities that go on there...
Mai:
the Sheathed Blade, is a den for opium and shiv use, not a direct competitor for your family's establishment, since those dregs aren't welcome in most places.
The Hellknight leader stops staring at the crowd, then motions for his group to follow him, as they turn and head north. The party approaches the gate.
The guard seems very distracted. He looks over Trinia and Jendai.
He seems to start taking interest in Trinia...
Suddenly you hear several catapults let their deadly cargo fly, followed by splashes. Less than a minute later you hear the catapults let loose again, followed by the sharp crack of splintering wood...the sound carrying in the foggy night.
The streets are littered with people, you tuck in behind a caravan heading toward one of the secondary gates. As you approach the gates, you see a group of Hellknights moving toward you, the lead seems to be staring at the different people approaching.
Sounds great, I was going to make him an NPC Rogue before we got the ninja, so he's just hanging around since halfway through the first AP. He had been partially attached to one of the characters that dropped (she had to concentrate on her thesis.)
Actually, I have the limit set to +1 items currently, pretty sure I mentioned that at one point. Perhaps it was with the Mai character. You'll need to make some rolls to locate more powerful items, +1 items are common enough to be purchased rather easily.
You depart for the academy, as a group of Hellknights steps into the tavern, shouldering Donagar aside.
"There's a 5000 gold piece reward for the capture of the King's murderer, Trinia Sabor" The Hellknight says as he holds aloft a very lifelike colored pictograph of Trinia. It must have been magically created using illusion magic.
----------------------
The streets are littered with all manner of citizens as dusk falls, children running in for supper, beggars and guardsman groups. The fog is beginning to roll in as the temperature falls. There's a blood red moon rising, an evil omen.
----------------------
As you arrive at the Orsini academy, the lanterns are already lit. The flickering lights flare against the fog.
----------------------
Yes Harrow points will be in this game, perhaps we should just run them as Hero Points per the APG? Any thoughts? It was tough tracking the specific uses in the first part and I believe no one used them.
About a two weeks after the meeting with Kroft, a package arrives at the house delivered by Sergeant Grau himself, there's a note on the package from Cressida Croft, to Drakus, Marra and Donagar. The little dragon lights upon the box as you're reading the card.
After the report of what happened in the catacombs, Donagar's
suggestion for something to help you see in the dark was taken to heart. For Marra and Drakus, these goggles, for Donagar, something else, to help keep our friends alive, this rod. These items are on loan from the city. Field Marshal Cressida Kroft
on a cleverly tucked away note below the first, is a second note:
The Gray Ladies are concerning me, the Queen has given them autonomous control under Captain Sabina Merrin. They've been tasked with finding and executing on sight our little artist, Trinia and the girl BlackJack rescued, I've been in contact with both and we need to get them out of the city tonight. The Gray Maidens begin searching door to door at first light. In addition the 5000 gold crown reward for her head is making things more difficult. Go to Orsini Academy please. I hope our new friends can be trusted as much as I believe they can.
-CK
BTW Gregor, Grau is a Sergeant, so, you probably wouldn't take him with you per ce, as join him on his patrols.
Oh, Orsini took in Trinia the night before the execution, this the old heroes knew.
Two Goggles of Night
1 Lesser Empowered Metamagic Rod.
(yes, they're a little out of the normal range, but, I also don't believe they're game breakers.
