The combined attacks overwhelm the goblin. His flaming blade goes out and he falls to the earth, bleeding from sword wounds and dagge slices.

Meanwhile Mitnal tries to scare the goblins across the bridge. It gives them a moments pause and when they then continue to approach the barbarian, they do so with trepidation.

Kenzo wrote:
Does Mitnal have the rope tied to him?

Not that I was aware of.

The bridge seems to be holding Mitnal, though it sways crazily from his movements.

Goblins at the bridge - round 5
Mitnal: Initiative - 21 -8 hp (R13)
Kenzo: Initiative - 21 -1 hp (U13)
Eugen: Initiative - 20 (U14)
Gyorgy: Initiative - 19 (V15)
Jessa: Initiative - 15 (T14)
Goblin Caster: Initiative 14 (T13)
Goblins on Goblin Dogs: Initiative - 14 (G4; G5; G6; H6)

Eugen can make two attacks at the caster if he wants. One for last round (his unused action) and one for this round. Based on the coordinates I posted above, if Jessa moves, she can give Kenzo a flanking position on the goblin caster.

The Map of the Bridge Area

AoO at Mitnal: (1d20+3=18)
Damage: (1d8+2=3)

Mitnal rushes past Gyorgy and Jessa and then past the goblin with the flaming sword. The goblin flicks his fiery blade at Mitnal as the big man rushes past, the fire searing some of Mitnal's arm.

Kenzo proves more helpful to Jessa, as he attempts to deliver a crushing kick. The goblin is nimble however and just dodges the kick. Gyorgy's divine fire strikes only the ground, but Jessa's dagger slices across the goblin's cheek.

Flame Blade Attack at Kenzo: (1d20+3=6)

The goblin shrieks and turns his efforts to slashes fruitlessly at the young monk.

Meanwhile, Mitnal sees a group of goblins approaching the bridge on the other side, mounted on goblin dogs.

"Goblin's," cries the bird helpfully, "Goblins approaching the bridge."

Mitnal observes that Gyorgy and Jessa and the goblin are between he and the bridge. He also observes Jessa's bird flying back towards them crawing something about "Goblins are coming!"

Mitnal acts first and if he wants, he can run past Gyorgy, Jessa and then the goblin and thus reach the bridge. The goblin will get a free swing.

Eugen Enescu wrote:
i can take the attack of opportunity on the goblin and still run to assist jessa all in the same move right?

Right. Though Mitnal gets to move first and might get in your way.

Eugen catches the goblin with a sword swipe to the back of the head and the little thing runs forward for a step before tripping and falling.

ps. Hi Bill, good to see you're still with us. :D

Goblins at the bridge - round 4
Mitnal: Initiative - 21 -5 hp
Kenzo: Initiative - 21 -1 hp
Eugen: Initiative - 20
Gyorgy: Initiative - 19
Jessa: Initiative - 15
Goblin Caster: Initiative 14
Goblins: Initiative - 12 fleeing

Eugen and Gyorgy slash and then burn one of the goblins, and it falls to the ground with a scream. The remaining goblin shrieks and then turns tail to run (provoking an attack of opportunity from Eugen and Kenzo.

Meanwhile the goblin with the flaming blade lunges again at Jessa. He shrieks in anger and fury but his mindless rage benefits Jessa in that he doesn't actually aim very well and the flames sizzle by her without actually touching her.

Attacking Jessa: (1d20+3=7)

We are waiting on Kenzo, or his sub. :)

There are now two goblins with dog slicers, both of them attacking Eugen. And of course the goblin in the back attacking Jessa.

Goblins at the bridge - round 3
Mitnal: Initiative - 21 -5 hp
Kenzo: Initiative - 21 -1 hp
Eugen: Initiative - 20
Gyorgy: Initiative - 19
Jessa: Initiative - 15
Goblin Caster: Initiative 14
Goblins (3): Initiative - 12

Mitnal crushes the head of one goblin and Eugen immediatelly moves past him. Unfortunately, so eager was the young swordsman that Eugen's attack is clumsy and nearly throws him off balance.

Kenzo's sword skewers another goblin, leaving only four standing.

Though Gyorgy tries to aim for an injured goblin, he sees that they are all already on the ground bleeding to death and so instead strikes the goblin that Eugen just missed. Jessa's dagger flies in and slices this stunned goblin's throat. Leaving only three of the goblins.

At about this time, Jessa realizes that she is being charged - through the briars to her right. The fire wielding goblin has returned, a maniac look on his face and a glowing sword of fire still in his hand.

Flame Blade (touch attack): (1d20+3=5)

Very fortunately for Jessa, the flaming magic does not even come close to her.

Goblin's attacks (Eugen, Eugen, Kenzo): (1d20+2=17-2=15, 1d20+2=6, 1d20+2=4)

The rest of the goblins press forward, two of them attacking Eugen. The goblin musk seems to be doing the job however and Eugen manages to turn aside a slash that might otherwise have cut him.

Eugen prepars himself to move forward...

Goblins at the bridge - round 2
Mitnal: Initiative - 21
Kenzo: Initiative - 21
Gyorgy: Initiative - 19 Casting
Jessa: Initiative - 15 Dagger
Eugen: Initiative - 14 Charging forward.
Goblins: Initiative - 12

Mitnal and Kenzo need to post actions.

I don't like to assume anyone has nothing they can do - but as Eugen's actions are limited, and as after he acts the new round starts, others can post their next round actions. Daniel - it is possible to ready an action in such a way as to move forward and make an attack as soon as there is another opening. If that's what you want Eugen to do, go ahead an make the attack roll ahead of the actual action.

Gyorgy Elberion wrote:
Were those two affected by the Harpy Musk?

Whoops. ;)

Will Saves: (1d20-1=16, 1d20-1=14, 1d20-1=10, 1d20-1=8, 1d20-1=10, 1d20-1=4)

Just so I don't have to retcon it, the two attacking are the two that made their saving throw and thus were more aggressive. The other four goblins behind them are all shaken.

Mitnal knocks a goblin cold and Kenzo slashes through the throat of the dazed goblin.

There are still almost a half a dozen goblins crammed into the tunnel of thorns ahead. The closest one is dazed.

Will Save: (1d20-1=6)

Gyorgy unleashes a blast of his divine fire that strikes the dazed goblin, staggering it.

And then the goblins surge forward, into the opening left by their fallen comrades. The dazed goblin gets passed by.

Goblin's with goblin slicers: (1d20+2=20, 1d20+2=16)
Damage: (1d6=5, 1d6=1)

The first slices Mitnal and the second hits Kenzo. Mitnal takes 5 points of damage and Kenzo takes 1. Eugen cannot close with a goblin because his two companions are in the way.

Mitnal looses a stone that crushes the skull of the closest goblin. Kenzo rushes forward and stabs at the next. Gyorgy quickly smears Eugen's sword with the harpy musk. Will Save: (1d20-1=8) Jessa dazes a goblin and Eugen moves forward and dispatches the same goblin that Kenzo stabbed

Goblin Initiative: (1d20+1=12).

The goblins seem genuinely surprised that the companions spotted them.

Goblins at the bridge - round 1
Mitnal: Initiative - 21
Kenzo: Initiative - 21
Gyorgy: Initiative - 19
Jessa: Initiative - 15
Goblins: Initiative - 12
Eugen: Initiative - 8

Heh. Tarren is out of town and Kenzo is not posting. Someone other than Neil can suggest Mitnal's action and Neil can do the same for Kenzo.

Checking Kenzo's equipment I don't see any rope. Looks like Eugen's fifty feet is all you have. Neil, if Kenzo doesn't post before Mitnal and Eugen, go ahead and post a move for him for the surprise round.

A map of the thistletop Bridge.

The party is occupying the spaces between R12 and T13.

As the party searches for ropes, the goblins appear, skulking furtively northward towards the party. None of them are the goblin with the flaming hands and the interesting ability to walk through walls of thorns. The goblins are armed with dog-slicers and they move stealthily, as if confident of the companion's inability to see them. One or two of them is trying not to giggle.

The lead goblin is at W16 on the map.

Initiative and surprise round actions.

The bridge is about sixty feet long. Eugen's rope is about fifty feet long. Did anyone else have rope to facilitate this plan?

Blackwing takes to the air and flies up and over the stockade. scouting will take just a little while.

The goblin footsteps and muttering can now be heard mostly to the south.

I'll try and get a map of the bridge area done today.

With Eugen leading the way, the party crawls through the thorn tunnels northward. After twenty feet, Eugen sees light ahead. Another ten feet and he can see the opening. Finally, ten feet further on, Eugen leads his companions to an opening in the thorny walls and the edge of a cliff.

The ocean churns against the base of the cliff some eighty feet or so below.

There is a rope bridge here, about sixty feet in length. The other side of the bridge is attached to a roundish, flat topped island to the north. Thick patches of vegetations, nettles and briars, grow here and there atop the island, but the most impressive feature of the island is a wooden one story stockade. Two thirty foot tall watch towers guard the stockades southern flank, the side facing the bridge.

The rope bridge is made of hairy rope and thick wooden flanks. It creaks and sways in the wind coming off the ocean.

Vague sounds coming from behind and to the west of the companions suggest a large number of goblins trying to unsuccessfully rush stealthily through the briar tunnels.

Gyorgy heals Mitnal of some of his hurt. Meanwhile Mitnal begins to argue with Jessa and Eugen starts towards the northward passage as Jessa had suggested.

All suddenly goes quiet to the west as the goblin stops yelling.

In the briars - Round 10
Eugen- Initiative: 26 (U13) -5 hp
Mitnal- Initiative: 23 (P11) -3 hp; -4 dexterity
Gyorgy - Initiative: 21 (R12)
Jessa - Initiative: 20 (S14)
Kenzo - Initiative: 18 (P9)
Goblin - Initiative: 17 (??)

Blackwing flutters around near the ceiling of the 'chamber.'

The fleeing goblin can be heard shouting out orders to someone. One gets the feeling that more foes could soon be on their way.

In the briars - Round 9
Eugen- Initiative: 26 (Q12) -5 hp
Mitnal- Initiative: 23 (P11) -9 hp; -4 dexterity
Gyorgy - Initiative: 21 (R12)
Jessa - Initiative: 20 (R14)
Kenzo - Initiative: 18 (P9)
Goblin - Initiative: 17 (??)

I'm keeping actions in rounds at the moment to emphasize the fact that you don't have a lot of time for planning and such.

I have no idea. I thought we still had a goblin dog left. Wasn't there one that was 'sleeping' or lying on the ground or something? If not, I suppose Kenzo sheathes his sword and prepares to defend or lead the group out of harm's way.

There is one on the ground and Kenzo can move and slay it if he desires... let's assume he does. I just wanted to be sure as you were suggesting his action was to aid Eugen.

Just to be clear - what is Kenzo attacking? Eugen missed (as his initiative was first, I applied his miss to the animal attacking him) and then Mitnal laid low the goblin dog attacking Eugen...

That just leaves Kenzo again.

Mitnal strikes the goblin dog from the side, bringing it low.

Unfortunately, the familiars cannot actually fly that high in here as the damp, thorn covered branches form a ceiling only about ten feet over the heads of the companions.

The goblin can be heard, running westward, yelling the alarm in goblin.

In the briars - Round 8
Eugen- Initiative: 26 (Q12) -5 hp
Mitnal- Initiative: 23 (O12) -9 hp; -4 dexterity
Gyorgy - Initiative: 21 (R12)
Jessa - Initiative: 20 (R14)
Kenzo - Initiative: 18 (P12)
Goblin - Initiative: 17 (??) -13 hp
Goblin Dogs - Initiative: 16 (P9, Q11)

Kenzo strikes down the dog that was trying to attack him. The same one that Mitnal had already injured. This leaves one dog still trying to attack Eugen.

Attacking Eugen: (1d20+2=11)

Throwing Fire at Mitnal: (1d20+6=12)

The goblin throws a ball of fire towards Mitnal. The big guy manages to duck nimbly out of the way and the fire hits the wet thorn branches near Mitnal's back and fizzles away.

The goblin snarls and then runs through the thorn wall to the west.

Jessa's ray strikes true.

If Kenzo does not post soon, go ahead and post for him again. i figure Bill will be back but he has also been off the boards for a bit, almost a week.

Oops, just noticed I forgot to erase the 1/2 move notations. Too late to change it now. Please disregard that.

Eugen slashes into the goblin dog that bit him (P11).

Mitnal cannot reach the goblin dog at P11. To attack he will have to go around Kenzo to reach the dog at Q11, which I will assume he does.

Mitnal performs a fancy bit of manuevering to roll around Kenzo, avoid the wall of thorns and still twist and bring both his weapons to bare at the goblin dog that attacked Kenzo. He looks quite good doing it and he even manages to strike home with his Klar. Unfortuntely he strains himself and pulls a muscle in his side.
Dexterity Damage: (1d4=4)
Mitnal moves to O12 and takes four points of dexterity damage.

Gyorgy, meanwhile, casts a light spell on the ground some twenty feet ahead. It illuminates the chamber of thorns ahead. The ground of this smelly, musty chamber is coverd with matted, wiry fur. Well gnawed bones lie scattered about the floor and there are a dozen wooden stakes hammered into the ground at various points.

Besides the two goblin dogs attacking Eugen and Kenzo, there is one other goblin dog, lying prone on the ground. The goblin, having fled to the safety of these goblin dogs is somewhat surprised by the sudden light revealing his presence. He snarls as he looks left and right, considering his options.

In the briars - Round 7
Eugen- Initiative: 26 (Q12) -5 hp
Mitnal- Initiative: 23 (Q13) -9 hp
Gyorgy - Initiative: 21 (R12) 1/2 speed
Jessa - Initiative: 20 (R14) 1/2 speed
Kenzo - Initiative: 18 (P12)
Goblin - Initiative: 17 (O8) -13 hp
Goblin Dogs - Initiative: 16 (P9, P11, Q11)

Before the dog can attack Eugen, Kenzo steps forward and cuts it down.

Meanwhile, the party can hear the goblin talking to the goblin dogs even though they cannot see him.

Two of the creatures suddenly bound out of the darkness, their leashes cut. They rush forward at Eugen and Kenzo.

Attacking Eugen, Kenzo: (1d20+2+2=18, 1d20+2+2=13)
Damage: (1d6+3=5)

Kenzo manages to avoid the lunging teeth but Eugen is not so lucky (he takes 5 points of damage and has to make a fortitude save).

Eugen's sword slices through the other goblin dog. The dog whimpers and then lunges towards Eugen in anger.

Kenzo? Sub-Kenzo? Last call.

Eugen moves uncertainly forward until he can better see the Goblin dogs in front of him (R13). He can see two of them (P12, Q11), though he can hear more out of sight, in the darkness ahead. They snarl and strain at their leashes.

Mitnal moves (Q13) and attacks the closest (P12). His weapons slices and crushes the foul smelling animal and it falls to the ground with a whimper.

Gyorgy squeezes next to the thorny wall (R12) and unleashes a color spray at the closest beast, hoping to catch another one in the blast. The spell seems to have no affect on the closest one but the barking beyond grows quieter by one dog.
Will Saves: (1d20+1, 1d20+1=[20, 1], [4, 1])

Jessa moves closer (R14) but she cannot see far enough to see the goblin nor more than one of the goblin dogs.

Kenzo? Eugen can also this round move to Q12 and attack the dog at Q11 if he wants to.

Eugen Enescu wrote:

I run in the direction jessa indicates trying to be prepared for anything.

where are we, where are the dogs tied up?

All the locations are given above and the online map has coordinate markings. Fell free to print or copy the map as needed to mark your locations.

Mitnal beats frantically at the flames on his clothing and manages to put them out. The rest of the group more or less tries to discern where the goblin has gone.

The party hears the goblin's voice and realize that he is talking to the goblin dogs.

In the briars - Round 6
Eugen- Initiative: 26 (U14)
Mitnal- Initiative: 23 (T13) -9 hp
Gyorgy - Initiative: 21 (V13) 1/2 speed
Jessa - Initiative: 20 (V16) 1/2 speed
Kenzo - Initiative: 18 (U13)
Goblin - Initiative: 17 (P7) -13 hp
Goblin Dogs - Initiative: 16 (N8, O9, P9, P12, Q11)

He did walk through a wall of thorns and it is not traversable by anyone in this group.

Fortitude Save: (1d20+6=24)

The goblin was not stunned. Eugen's attack of opportunity barely fazed him. And he is now out of sight in the briars to the north.

EDIT: Also, in the interest of speeding along, I decided that Mitnal's failure to post an attack was a failure to take it. Something akin to the six second rule I sometimes use at the table. Does Jessa take an action this round? :)

The goblin caster runs straight north, into the briars, which seem to almost open up for him. A second after the goblin has passed into the dark walls of the briars, they are again a seemingly inpenatrable mass of vegetation.

The goblin dogs (Q11, P11, etc.) continue their constant barking and yapping.

Tangletooth's Den - Round 5
Eugen- Initiative: 26 (U14)
Mitnal- Initiative: 23 (T13) -9 hp
Gyorgy - Initiative: 21 (W16) 1/2 speed
Jessa - Initiative: 20 (V16) 1/2 speed
Kenzo - Initiative: 18 (U13)
Goblin - Initiative: 17 (S9) -13 hp

Mitnal catches on fire. Fire Damage: (1d4=3)

A map of the area around the party.

The dead cat is at X19
The goblin is fleeing up towards S11.

We'll use Eugen's roll from before. And sure, Kenzo can have an attack of opportunity as well. Rolls?

The dagger hits the goblin.

In turn, the goblin snarls and swings his glowing weapon at Mitnal once more.
Flaming Sword: (1d20+3=21)
Damage: (1d8+2=3)

Though the contact is light, the heat is intense.

Mitnal now needs to make 2 reflex saves.

The goblin then turns and flees towards the briars to the north, provoking attacks from Mitnal and Eugen.

Not for this round. If someone wants to suggest an action for Kenzo, go ahead.

Eugen, hampered by the plants still grabbing at him, can only move at half speed. He can't attack the goblin this time but he moves close enough to attack next round. Getting into a flank position will provoke an attack of opportunity on the part of the goblin.

Mitnal attacks, striking the goblin a glancing blow.

Gyorgy misses

Jessa's dagger, flitting around, just manages to get inside the goblin's parrying, but the blow is slight.

Kenzo's turn. Eugen and Mitnal are both in the way for him to move into melee this turn. But he can move out of the entangling and around Eugen if he desires to move.

Tangletooth's Den - Round 4
Eugen- Initiative: 26 1/2 speed.
Mitnal- Initiative: 23 -3 hp
Gyorgy - Initiative: 21 1/2 speed
Jessa - Initiative: 20 1/2 speed
Kenzo - Initiative: 18 1/2 speed
Goblin - Initiative: 17 -2 hp

We'll just assume that Eugen spends the round freeing himself.

Eugen, a bit confusedly, works to tear the vines and grass from his limbs.

Mitnal, feeling like he is wading through a thick snow or water, moves with force past Gyorgy and Jessa, closing with the goblin.

Gyorgy's divine fire misses, sizzling into the vines some five feet behind the goblin. The goblin also deftly evades the floating knife, his little beady eyes glowering the whole time. Only Kenzo's thrown blade finds a mark but it is not a telling blow and the goblin seemingly ignores the small slice along his arm.

Mitnal sees now that there is a fire in each of the goblin's hands. A small ball of fire is clutched in his left hand and a glowing beam of flame is clutched in the other.

The goblin slices at Mitnal with the glowing beam.
Flame Blade: (1d20+3=13)
Damage: (1d8+2=3)

The fire burns with a great heat, searing Mitnal (who also needs to make a reflex save, DC 15 to avoid catching on fire.).

The goblin sneers, "You will all die."
