Bridgetroll, you'd best post your listen, then I'll continue with the game.
Will update as soon as others post their Listen checks.
The group heads back to Ravendrawk. It takes them all a day just to get out of the desert, but they find that somehow they have taken a wrong turn. Rather than heading into civilized country, the party has gone away from it, into the forest Gaeryntilk.
Everyone, make a listen check.
Listen 10:
So I'm assuming everyone is going back to the city?
Why did this thread slow down?
Shym Nykwill Reborn wrote: Cadwyn Tallis wrote: Good to have you onboard, Shym!
"Hmm..." Cadwyn muses, finally cleaning and stowing his sword. "Questions piled upon questions. I still feel that there is more to this place than meets the eye. Even if we return to the city, I think we will find ourselves drawn here again."
"The city, yes. We should return."
Stowing the bracelet in his satchel, he looks at the others expectantly. Hate these invisible posts...
Elerosse Coamenel wrote: Shym Nykwill Reborn wrote: Thanks for the welcome!
"Does anybody know anything about Arkiosis?".
Elerosse looks at Shym, " Arkiosis? Is it some kind of disease?" Elerosse then looks confused, "Lopinsand, is a desert."
sorry i haven't been on in a while, had some family issues, and welcome Shym :) That's fine, Awed, glad you're back.
The chief goblin has an oil of some sort, a bloodstained kukri (masterwork), some nice arrows, and a few gems. The others don't have anything unique, save each have a small copper bracelet with the symbol of Arkiosis on it.
Everyone can make a Knowledge (history) check.
DC 25:
It seems to be a necklace of some sort, made from silver. It has an bleeding eye on it, caused by an spear. Everyone notices that the goblins' javelins all have the same mark. It appears that this was the symbol of Arkiosis.
Spot check DC 15:
Oops, almost forgot. 500 xp, everyone.
Xaephon Ateus wrote: Eck. Does any one have the feeling its going to be a lot hard to escape here then we believed? You mnight not want to give me ideas.
But the goblin is already going on. "We were trapped by Lopinsand, in the desert. Driven half-mad...no water...lost...lost...Beware Lopinsand!" And he dies, the word still on his lips.
"There is evil...there is good...there is Lopinsand. Beware of its sign!
The goblin gasps. "We were the last...of Arkiosis... an old order...dedicated to...combating Lopinsand. Beware!"
The blade stabs the goblin brutally through the leg and he collapses, apparently dead. However, as the group turns to leave, he suddenly cries out "Lopinsand! 'Ware!". Somehow, there is still some life left in him.
Guys, I might be gone for a few days. Apologies for the inconvenience.
Awed? You there?
Cadwyn's blow catches the goblin completely by surprise, and he staggers but does not fall.
Hera wrote: I guess It's my turn?
Hera takes a stab at the last goblin.
Attack roll 15+4=19. Damage 1d6+3=8 points
Shym's magic takes the goblin off guard, and he stands slightly dazed. Still, his armor is strong enough to turn away the sword thrust.
Alright, then. Shim, it's your turn.
Alright. Shim, are you there?
Okay, I'm back.
Elerrosse's arrow clanks harmlessly against the goblin's chainmail. He grins madly, and charges Cadwyn with his kukri. slices with it expertly, leaving a nasty gash.
Attack=19, damage=5
Oh, and by the way, here's the Initiative chart:
Hera 18
Cadwyn 11
Elerrosse 10+
Goblin Leader 10-
Xaephon 9
Shym 3
Xaephon's turn.
Heathy just made me go to another funeral for Vomit Guy. I wish he'd stay dead.
No, don't worry. There might be a little delay, but the game should be coming back soon.Keep heart.
No, I think it's Elerosse's turn. El, roll your attack.
Cadwyn's sword goes cleanly through the unfortunate goblin. The third goblin glares madly at the folk who made short work of his ambush. Looking closer, he seems to have better equipment than the other two. He must be the leader. Holding his greatsword fiercely, he spits, "You humans die now!"
He seems to have had no food or water for a week. Apparently, people will do anything after a few days in Lopinsand.
The goblins do not go first, but I'm hoping Elerrosse can post his initiative first.
Elerosse, you need to post your initiative! Hera wrote: I guess I'm first then?
Hera steps forward, and draws her rapier at the first goblin.
Attack roll 12+4=16. If that was enough, then 1d6+3=7 points damage.
Hera's rapier goes cleanly through the first goblin. It collapses with a shriek.
Cadwyn draws his longsword and his shield.
Don't want to slow down play by making you wait 5 rounds before being able to use the shield properly.
Xaephon readies his spear.
You all begin the trek back to the 'land of the bells'. After a while, you all hear goblin shrieks. Suddenly, three maddened goblins rise up from where they were obviously hiding, and charge.
Roll initiative.
The night passes uneventfully. Soon it is morning.
So Cadwyn takes first watch, Elerosse takes second, and Hera third?
Cadwyn says, "I second that."
Hera wrote: Xaephon Ateus wrote: Timidly Xaephon approaches Hera. Ehem, I notice you seem familiar with the out of doors. Even if you are for returning back. He adds quickly.
But my mind will not rest until I am certain that we have gleaned every lead that might be hidden. So If I might be so bold, while the other are preparing for the night and while there still is light if you could help me search to see if there is any unusual track here about?
Hera gives a slight smile at Xaephons polite request "Well," She says, "I guess looking around while it is still light would be a good idea, we can always head back for the city when night falls."
She starts looking around
Search check 13+5=18 She finds nothing of import, but notices that the water that was poured down for the spirits is not there. Everyone who gave water, you see it in your waterskins.
NPCing Cadwyn, at his request.
Cadwyn looks around, agitated by the eerie noise. "Can you stop that?" He asks nervously.
Hey, folks, sorry about the delay
Cadwyn Tallis wrote: Cadwyn squints his eyes and peers around.
Spot check: 1d20+2=18 to see if I notice anything of interest like a cave or something around.
You see nothing but the tiny scorpions scurrying around. Shym Nykwill wrote: DM Snake: how long did it take for us to get here by coach? About a day.
Oh by the way, 100 story xp.
We're sorry for your loss.
The voices fade, and are gone.
Knowledge (geography) reveals nothing.
The spirits seem excited at Xaephon's idea. "Yes! Yes! Land of Rats and Ravens! there is what you seek! You find what you need there, in Land of Bellsssss..."
not that this is much of a surprise, but you can't come up with a land named that.
The spirit speaks again, annoyed. "You know what I mean. At midnight, big bell ringssss...loud..."
"You seek Lopinsand. He is not found here. In...the Bell Land!"
As water is poured into the ground, there is a long sigh. Then the lone voice continues, stronger now.
"You're kindness merits a reward. We will tell you where, and what, you seek."
As everyone nears the sound, it gets louder so everyone can hear it. It seems like there are hundreds of voices, floating in the air.
Make another Listen check.
Listen 10:
Listen 15:
The voice seems to be coming from nowhere. "Water, water, please, gods help us, water..."
Everyone make a listen check.
Listen 15
Alright, sorry guys! I've been unable to post for a while. We can continue now!
Assuming everybody is indeed ready...
The group arrives in Lopinsand. A scorpion scurries past Cadwyn's boot, but it looks harmless. The carriage soon leaves, with the captain shouting behind "Good luck! Though there is none there!" Everyone feels unnerved in the 'haunted' desert. Something is wrong. Unnatural.
Shym Nykwill wrote: DM Snake wrote: What type of lantern would it be? Something made up - a normal lantern uses oil and costs 1sp - I want one that holds a candle (uses a candle's light stats) instead of oil. A couple silver pieces up to a gold piece seems fair to me :) That sounds reasonable. I'd say it costs 3sp. I'd say that you can buy all of it.
What type of lantern would it be?
