About DM Luke

House Rules

Criticals

Spoiler:
When you score a critical against an enemy, you may elect to have a card drawn from Paizo's Critical Hit deck rather than getting the normal multiple damage dice. The cards often have a multiplier and an effect on the creature. If you want the card, I'll draw it and relay the result. (I played Rolemaster too many years to not dress up criticals somehow.)

Fumbles

Spoiler:
If you roll a one on an attack, you must immediately make a Reflex Save DC15. If you fail this save, you provoke an AoO from all enemies that threaten you. A second natural 1 here always fails the save.

Crafting Traps

Spoiler:

By the DMG guidelines, the costs to put together a simple trip wire / xbow trap or a spiked pit are ridiculous. A deep pit has a market value of 1,300 gp? Get me a shovel!

Here's trap making brought to you by Luke...

You may use the Craft(Trapmaking) skill (even untrained) to make instances of the sample traps described in the DMG, as long as you have necessary materials on hand. Common materials necessary are a weapon or object featured in the description, wire, a shovel, a featured poison, etc. You also need to have thieves tools. The DC of the Craft(Trapmaking) roll is equal to the average of the Search and Disable DCs of the resulting trap.

For magical traps, there's the additional requirement of needing some item to use (via Use Magic Device skill roll per normal rules) with an effect appropriate to the trap. An example might be a scroll with Inflict Light Wounds to create the trap described on pg 71 of the DMG.
