Great. Would we prefer a tank or a controller? I have a few concepts:

Spoiler:
The Immortal - a time-traveling soldier from the future with extremely adaptable attacks and defenses.
Oros - a metallic magnetron able to liquefy and manipulate metal for powerful attacks and defenses.
Madhouse - considered by many to be a shared hallucination, this illusionist is impossible to pin down.
Anyman - a copycat who is never what he appears to be, this dynamic fighter can duplicate most other people's powers, but there's always something off about them...
The Speaker - gifted with a voice that can command reality, there is little that can stand in this person's way.

"Median Maxwell? I know that name..." Solomon ponders to himself for a moment, thoughtfully tapping his cane on the floor. The small sound echoes unreasonably, soon ironically disturbing him from this thoughts. With a slight frown he determines to resolve that question another time.

"Pardon my manners. I am Doctor Daniel Solomon. I teach biology at the university here in Fever. I and my family are also patrons of this fine establishment." He quickly surveys the fresh faces around him to ensure they are duly impressed. "As such, the news of these disappearances has been most upsetting. I intend to investigate the matter personally."

Without waiting for a reaction, he turns away from the others and stares intently into the display case bearing the cup and sword. Yet his mind wanders further than this, into books, tales, and memories of Fever spanning decades, centuries, more.

Kaelic decides to deal with this turtle problem head-on. "Cover me."
He then flies out towards the first turtle and begins to unpack some the C4 they'd been assigned to destroy the ship. Seems they wouldn't be needing it for that anymore. He makes sure to secure it somewhere that looks soft and not too close to the ship itself.
"I saw this on a movie once." He reassures.

My point isn't that the job is easy, but that you don't do the job with your own two hands.

You: A GM with a flexible or homebrew campaign, looking to add a little challenge and varied dynamic for your players.

Me: A player interested in creating a character, rooted deeply in your campaign, with his own motivations and objectives, that come into conflict with the path of your PCs.

The Antagonist: You can have as much or as little input/control as you like, and use the character for your own ends or let him/her/me run free in your campaign. (S)he can be a one-off villain, a recurring nuisance, a primary opponent, an unscrupulous rival, an occasional ally, or anything else we can dream up.

Why you should consider it: Instead of you, the GM, having to be a thousand different personas, I take care of some of it for you. I add an extra human dynamic without stealing the focus away from the real stars--your adventuring party. It gives your players something more substantial to chew on.

Why I'm considering it: I can get a taste of various story settings, sample your campaign, create a deep character, and step in and out as needed. It's an easier way to experience more campaigns and worlds without having to commit to being an active player all the way through. Like a sampler platter of play-by-posts.

So, what do you think? I look forward to hearing some feedback, even if you're not yourself interested in inviting an Antagonist into your campaign.

I'll need them as witnesses."
The phone mumbled from the other end, then Morroway continued. "That won't be necessary. He was killed in an accident. But we don't know who else he might've been working with. Also, we're being pursued. Someone who knew the guest list. They don't want this secret out, but we're taking it straight to Washington. Try to get the office of the Secretary. Yes, of war. Yes, it's that serious. And Franklin, I'm getting on the next train, with our without those witnesses. Get me some men at the D.C. station. Have them being an armoured car and at least two vests or jackets. Yes, for me and my--" he pauses, looking at Evelyn. "A friend. And men you trust, Franklin. We might even have them working for us."
Morroway hung up the phone, a look of concern hardening his features. "Don't let me down, Franklin."

Spidre gropes the leading undead with a ghostly disembodied hand.
And magic.
chill touch: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7, damage: 2d8 ⇒ (3, 3) = 6
on hit, target has disadvantage vs me for 1 turn
