We got to the entrance to the cave where a there was a large statue sitting upon a throne. I thought I was being pretty quiet especially given the lack of any sort of cover but I must have made some errant noise because the statue stood and guarded the entrance. I surmised that the throne itself might hold the answer to activation or decativation of the guardian, so I went over to it and noticed the seat had arcane sigils of which I could not decipher. I distracted the statue while my friends started to attack the chair. The creature started to come after me, I honestly don't remember much after that though I did take a little hurting from it.
I remember standing rear guard as my friends entered the cave after destroying the statue. Jarlen, Skrag, Thugar, Trygg, and Varod entered the cave. Taryn and I stood without acting as rear scouts just in case anything tried to sneak in. After a few moments I heard a bellow that could only be Skrag right after the mountain shook from within. I went in to investigate utilizing my skills. Taryn came in after me but I made sure I was well ahead of his noise making. I entered a rather large chamber from which there were many tunnels leading in various directions. I found one entrance that had a disabled pit trap in front of it so I headed into that tunnel. Just as I was about to enter, Trygg and Varod came out with Skrag carrying a limp and obviously dead Thugar. Now I knew the reason for bellow. Thugar...dead. Where was Jarlen? Up the tunnel, dead as well according to Skrag. I left my potions with the group so that at the very least they could heal up enough to get out. Trygg gained consciousness and followed me into the tunnels. We went up a ways and suddenly I heard...nothing. All sound was gone. We had entered an area of magical silence. I saw Jarlen's body lying there and I wanted to run and grab him and then avenge his, and Thugar's deaths. I should have taken the opportunity to scream though no one would've heard, but I needed to focus. I gestured to Trygg to grab Jarlen and get out. The moment that he did we all lit up with a purple fire. The fire did no harm but lit us up for easy marking. So much for my sneaking in and killing the supposed drow that crawled up from whatever stink hole of a home they live in.
We left the cave and made the immediate decision to head to the hermit as he was the only one with enough magical power to possibly bring back both Jarlen and Thugar.
