===============================================

Physical Description
Cromwin is a young, tall man, clean shaven with closely cropped blonde hair and blue eyes. He is well muscled but not overly burly for his height, with lightly tanned skin from frequently working outdoors. He is usually wearing his scale mail armor in all but the most formal or safe settings, both because it is one of his most valuable possessions and he is afraid of losing it, and because he does not want to be caught without it if he needs to fight. Other than his armor, he usually dresses in simple brown leather clothing, sturdy and well suited for hunting or working with animals.

Family
The Gansons have been in Trunau since the town was founded. Cromwin's ancestor Hauser Ganson was a knight of Lastwall who served in a heavy cavalry unit against the orc hordes. When Lastwall withdrew beyond Trunau he stayed, vowing to stand his ground and fight. During the bloody siege that followed he proved his valor time and again and fell in love with woman named Janessa, one of the town's defenders. After the initial siege died down, he married her and claimed a parcel of land outside the city where he settled and started a family.

Although they do maintain a small farm for hay and wheat, the Ganson family primarily makes their living from breeding horses, dogs and falcons and training them for war. A well trained warhorse is worth much in such a violent area, and it has lent them a measure of prosperity. They would likely be a wealthy family, except that holding lands outside the town proper leaves them vulnerable to orc raids. While the entire family trains in military techniques passed down from their ancestor and are generally able to defend their land from small raids, they have been forced to flee to the safety of the town's walls and return to rebuild their holdings at a later time on many occasions throughout their family's history. Still, the family is nothing if not stubborn, and they hold to the standing vow, refusing to give up their land for good come what may.

Cromwin lives with his father, mother and two siblings on his family's farm in one of the furthest settled areas outside of Trunau, where he helps to raise and train the warhorses and hunting dogs. They live there as part of an extended family, with nearly two dozen cousins, aunts, uncles and other relations who all take part in the family business.

Cromwin had two additional siblings, an older sister and a younger brother, both of whom have died in orc raids. He was particularly close to his older sister Janna, who helped teach him how to train horses and would go hunting with him when he was an early teen. When Cromwin was 15, he was running his horse through jumping training on the edge of the family's property when he was attacked by an orc raiding party. Janna was the only family member close enough to help, and she fought with Cromwin and held off the attackers until the rest of the family arrived to drive them off, but died in the fight. The incident impacted Cromwin greatly, and since that time he has spent more and more time in combat training and dreaming of becoming a guard to help protect Trunau, his family and his friends.

Personality
Cromwin's most defining trait is his loyalty; he is extraordinarily loyal to his family, to Trunau and to his horse and would give his life to protect any of them. He is very patient for a boy his age, having spent many long years working with animals and mastering the defensive combat styles taught by his father. He tends not to think very quickly, but tries to think deeply to formulate a good response to any challenges he faces. Despite the constant threat and the loss of his sister and brother, he manages to be generally positive and cheerful. He knows he has been blessed with a wonderful family, a strong community, and the opportunity to work with the animals he loves, and he is grateful for the life he has.

Anvil
Cromwin's father gave Cromwin his own foal to train as his warhorse the year after Cromwin earned his hopeknife. He named the horse Anvil, and they have become close friends and companions over the years. Anvil is much like his master; protective, patient, hard working, loyal, and fierce in combat. Anvil is a large, black stallion. He enjoys carrots and being scratched behind his ears, and is usually found wearing his hide barding unless stabled, as he has been called to fight on more than one occasion.

Party Role/Tentative Progression Plans:

Cromwin will be a melee support character who also brings a small amount of damage. I have roughly planned out his feat progression to look something like this:
Cav 1: Shake it Off, Combat Expertise, Mounted Combat
Cav 2/Fighter 1: Shield Focus: Tower Shield, Mounted Shield
Cav 3/Fighter 1: Bodyguard
Cav 4/Fighter 1: TBD
Cav 6/Fighter 1: Swift Aid, Covering Shield
Cav 8/Fighter 1: TBD
Cav 9/Fighter 1: Harrying Partners
Levels 11+: TBD. Maybe something with Vanguard Style.
Cromwin will boost his party's Saving Throws with Shake it Off and eventually his banner ability, and provide large AC boosts with a combination of Swift Aid/Bodyguard/Covering Shield. While he won't do a lot of damage himself, he will have very high defenses and will buff his allies as long as he is present on the battlefield. Out of combat, he will have a respectably versatile suite of skills, but is unlikely to be the best at any of them. He will keep Ride, Survival and Handle Animal maxed for RP reasons, Perception maxed because of how important it is, and otherwise will try to diversify enough that he can reliably hit the DC 10 checks to aid his party members with Aid Allies boosted Aid Another checks.
