When it was her time to take her place in the world as a CS citizen, there was only one path open to her - to join the ranks of the Psi-Stalkers. Any other path would lead her out of the CS, and make her into an outlaw until the end of her days.

Without bitterness or resentment for what must be done, she embraced her lot in life. This positive outlook (especially for a psi-vampire) is a product of the loving and nuturing environment in which she was raised.

This does not mean that Coretta is soft or weak. She has been trained well, and her instincts are to hunger. However, her identity & her spirit are larger than the hand she was dealt.
She has a big heart, and she won't back down from that which is clearly wrong.
Her instict is to hunger in ways that are alien to civilized people, and for that she walks the quiet walk of the wolf - forever a stranger to the gardens of CS civilization.

As a Stalker on the edge of humanity, she strives to represent all that is good about humankind, even if civilized human life in the Coalition States can never be hers. She is a she-wolf amongst humans, fighting on the edge between humankind and that which is hateful to all that is human.

• Bring about human civilization. Coretta sees herself on the frontline of the fight between anti-humanism (barbarism) and humanity (that which is her sense of civilization). When the continent is cleansed of barbarism, then her goal will be complete.
  
• Find another way to ease her hunger. Coretta doesn't want to harm the innocent, but her instinct is to feed without care for guilt or innocence. Coretta wishes to find a way to ease her need for psychic energy besides feeding on living people.
  
• Amass a library of books. Lone Star is unique amongst the CS in that learning and knowledge are encouraged. Possession of books, while dangerous, has a different meaning in Lone Star as opposed to Chi-Town. As a stalker on the edge of civilization, Coretta also wants to know that civilization that had been lost (and that she might help bring about again as an outsider).
